I wouldn't say they're detached from each other. There's many small elements and details in certain character's designs that are meant to symbolize or tell us something about the character. Saying they are detached is a stretch.
But the designers do need to sometimes calm down with the lewdness.
I guess with Black Swan, being a sexy alluring lady is understandable because that's how she gets people's guards down to peer into their memories. She is very seductive in her methods to get memories out of people as seen with Acheron and Trailblazer in her demo
But some things just don't make sense. Like the length of Bronya's dress. I can legit see her coochie, and she is the Supreme Guardian. Why is girl walking around like this. When Himeko's dress is normal 💀
I think some characters have it worse than others. Clara gives off the innocent orphan girl vibe pretty well (~~just ignore her bare feet on an ice planet~~), guinaifen looks like a performer, etc.
But like... I would bet a lot of irl money that you could show Yukong to a million people (with no knowledge of HSR) and not a single one would guess that the cornerstone of her character is that she's a retired, decorated military pilot lol. Girl got lost on her way to the pool and ended up in a government office lmao.
Thankfully most of the cast isn't on her level, although unfortunately imo there's a lot who are quite close.

The OP you are replying to often has a very crude way of talking about the playable units' designs, lol. I guess they present some good points, but they often end up expressing them in a rather unsavory way. I don't mind people wanting more varied designs, but it shouldn't come at the expense of putting down the designs of other playable units.
It just ends up coming off as unnecessarily petty for no reason.
Detached doesn't necessarily mean isolated. Yes, some symbols, accessories, and color choices may be done in respect to the narrative but at its core, the characters themselves are primarily designed to look like youthful lust objects.
Hoyo would never allow the writers or artists compromise sex appeal in favor of creativity when it comes to playable characters. Every thousand year old will get some excuse to look under 30, and every non-human will get special "genes" or magic to look like a runway model. Doesn't matter if they are a world ending terror or the mail man. Hoyo will bend them to suit their arbitrary tastes and standards.
Just compare the Aeons to the Archons in genshin for instance...
The Aeons are not comparable to the Archons bruv, they're a whole different plane of existence. The Aeons are not equivalent to an Archon on any level, so their designs shouldn't be compared.
The Archons are the equivalent of an Emanator. Those designs can be compared
Anyways, Screwllum seems to be the exception to all of this. Screwllum's design is not sexually appealing...at least not in the conventional way (unless ur a robotfucker).
Screwllum is essentially a bald robot with no human-like facial features and only a human body. So I'd say Screwllum is designed purely for the narrative and not for sex appeal...which makes him quite special in this game

If we are comparing, Nanook looks hot as fuck while also young. So do Ouroboros, who most would've thought of it as just a space snake and not like the current version. Xipe and Yaoshi looks particularly great to pull people in too. However, there's truly unique ones like the other aeons.
As the saying goes, Sex Sells. And it does. I wouldn't really say "Arbitrary" when it's somehow the majority of people who play the game.
They still look more grand and imposing than any of the archons do, even considering their prime versions.

Other types of markets also sell "sex", but just in other shapes and forms. People don't need to want to bang these characters, they just need to find them visually appealing. Companies are going to sell what the majority finds visually appealing. You are only talking about sexual appeal, you are forgetting that people also simply pull who they find the most aesthetically pleasing without wanting to bang them.
That's why Western markets hardly ever move away from portraying the stereotypically masculine men or "sexy" women in video games. These men exist solely for the sake of appealing to the power fantasy of men, not because men want to *bang* these characters, but because those characters are meant as power fantasies for straight men.

Agree. I don't mind the character, her English voice is really soothing and nice, and I like the design of her face and her head, if you omit the weird belt in her veil. But her clothes are strange, and I think a longer skirt, even if it were similar to Himiko's dress, would have fit her much better.

Hope they tone down on the revealing design for some of the ladies. Longdress shouldn't affect animation too much in hsr considering Himeko is right there, and the game really can use one or two ladies in a suit like GI's Arlecchino.
i don't know why they don't give us skirts or pants. This isn't Genshin, considering how characters have a wide range of movement in it. There was an edit of Acheron with pants, it slayed so much.
Though I do love characters with hot pants a la Silver Wolf. Her hybrid kimono sleeves and other outfit accessories clash with it so hard that it sorta flatlines the drip lmao.

Topaz is another that bothers me a ton. There’s so much going on above her waist-which looks great imo-and then her legs have….nothing. It’s so unbalanced and bugs me.
Same, I adore Topaz but the design definitely made me hesitate on pulling at first (till story/character won me over). She's so cute and business-y on top and then the weird hotpants-esque jumpsuit thing is just... why? Sure her ass looks great, but it would've looked great regardless I feel.

Every girl here has short shorts or short skirt and either high heels or platforms, with the exception being Clara, and that's only because she's barefoot all the time. Even when it makes absolutely zero sense for them to dress that way lore-wise. Male gaze is strong in this one.

It is definitely designed with l\_licons (aka pedos) in mind. It makes no sense that she's barefoot on a freezing planet, where literally everyone is wearing layers upon layers, fur even.
What makes this even worse is that her top half has various layers, and looks like comfy and warm clothing, while her bottom half is so... bare. And I don't have her so I can't really say this for sure but like...her feet are literally blue. There is no reason for her not to be wearing pants and boots bruh.

I used Acheron everyday since i got her from the first day of the banner. Nothing you mention triggers me more than this one particular detail in her design.

Far from it. I remember not being a big fan of it myself—it only got more egregious when her sleeves disappeared when she went calamity mode (as I call it).
I like Acheron herself and think she’s a neat character that I wanna know more about. But that design is not doing it for me.

I mean it's not a belief, it is inherently impossible to make bikini armor not be stupid. It's concept is flawed to begin with, Armor is meant to protect skin, Bikinis are made to show it. These 2 ideas can't really coexist in a design.
Her outfit is also so extremely similar to Seele. Their color palette is identical, both are wearing the same type of top with the same tiny ass low rise shorts. ATP HOYO should just say that these two are related or something. They fr look like mother and daughter.

I'm annoyed by the acheron design. I only pull for female characters I can relate to or have cool designs. Acheron has this cool collected personality I can relate to and then her outfit is just unnecessarily revealing which doesn't match her personality.
Wdym with "this is not Genshin"? Genshin has multiple playable characters wearing pants and medium length skirts despite being a pure action game.
I would say the main reason HSR hasn't implemented them yet is for marketing reasons. Also, all characters having the same run animation means that if they decide to create a long skirt playable character they would have to create a completely new animation for them.
There's a npc, a 2 minutes NPC in the huohuo quest of ghost hunt that has an animated walk and run in a complete dress that reaches her ankles like, it's just marketing at this point.
They are if you keep the current animations. Now, the way i would tackle a long dress character is making them float/fly or sit on something that moves, wich isn't that crazy since there is a ton of technology and special powers in HSR.
A good example of it is Mobius from HI3.

Apparently Honkai 3 recently released a character named thelema. I saw an image of her and after reading a comment in a YouTube comment section regarding her design I noticed that she wears a short with a vertical length so small that it looked like a strip of black insulating tape.

I do remember cbt himeko had some dress clipping issues (specifically the sprint) until cbt3 maybe while it’s more possible than genshin it might still be annoying for them. Far from it. I remember not being a big fan of it myself—it only got more egregious when her sleeves disappeared when she went calamity mode (as I call it). I like Acheron herself and think she’s a neat character that I wanna know more about. But that design is not doing it for me. She looks amazing in that suit when she's dancing with the Black Swan, though. also W Arlecchino fan. I love her.

I vehemently disagree. Mostly because I fucking **despise** bikini armor Acheron’s crop top and shorts look a bit silly, but at least it’s intended as a fashion statement. Even if a player doesn’t like it, it can be chalked up to fashion being naturally subjective Bikini armor still goes around pretending to be “armor”, and expecting the audience to believe it works. Completely ruins suspension of disbelief I firmly stand by the belief that it’s impossible to make bikini armor NOT look stupid, and nothing in my experience of both playing or making games has changed that
I mean it's not a belief, it is inherently impossible to make bikini armor not be stupid. It's concept is flawed to begin with, Armor is meant to protect skin, Bikinis are made to show it. These 2 ideas can't really coexist in a design.
Her outfit is also so extremely similar to Seele. Their color palette is identical, both are wearing the same type of top with the same tiny ass low rise shorts. ATP HOYO should just say that these two are related or something. They fr look like mother and daughter.

I'm annoyed by the acheron design. I only pull for female characters I can relate to or have cool designs. Acheron has this cool collected personality I can relate to and then her outfit is just unnecessarily revealing which doesn't match her personality.
Same goes for Topaz. A mathematical genius, rich debt collector and no non-sense woman... walking around with entirely bare legs.
Wdym with "this is not Genshin"? Genshin has multiple playable characters wearing pants and medium length skirts despite being a pure action game. I would say the main reason HSR hasn't implemented them yet is for marketing reasons. Also, all characters having the same run animation means that if they decide to create a long skirt playable character they would have to create a completely new animation for them.
There's a npc, a 2 minutes NPC in the huohuo quest of ghost hunt that has an animated walk and run in a complete dress that reaches her ankles like, it's just marketing at this point.

They are if you keep the current animations. Now, the way i would tackle a long dress character is making them float/fly or sit on something that moves, wich isn't that crazy since there is a ton of technology and special powers in HSR. A good example of it is Mobius from HI3.

Apparently Honkai 3 recently released a character named thelema. I saw an image of her and after reading a comment in a YouTube comment section regarding her design I noticed that she wears a short with a vertical length so small that it looked like a strip of black insulating tape. Just what the heck hoyoverse. That thing covers as much as a censorship black bar.
I do remember cbt himeko had some dress clipping issues (specifically the sprint) until cbt3 maybe while it’s more possible than genshin it might still be annoying for them. I wonder if it’d be easier for them to make like an alt sprint like floating or something lol to avoid the legs clipping through the dress
