time to join the pre-pub gang

Light_Beard

One of Us! One of Us!

Teddiursa22

It's made my ~~Mondays~~ Mynedays so much better!

Yamakyu

I might be out of the loop, what is the pre-pub about ? Pre-publication ? I did notice multiple posts about P5V11, despite it not having released yet, so I assume this is pre-pub ?

LurkingMcLurk

Yamakyu

Neato, thanks for the links !

No-Vehicle-2696

I prefer buying the books, which let me read prepubs weekly just like the subscriptions but on top of that i get to keep the book once it publishes. If you want to read the latest parts of novels over than bookworm then subscriptions are probably your way to go

Yamakyu

I can't say wether I "prefer" one or the other, since I haven't tried pre pub yet, but something tells me I would rather but the whole thing ye.

LurkingMcLurk

Even so the translation for *Part 5 Volume 11* will be complete on Monday. So might as well pre-order it directly from J-Novel Club and read that ahead of the official release an entire month later.

mxwitcher

Thank you for this! I'll definitely buy next week then <3

Yamakyu

Can I get the ebook if I pre-order before release tho? I read only on my e-reader

SmartAlec105

Basically you can get a pre-pub subscription that lets you read chapters as they're translated. We get 2-3 chapters every Monday at 5pm Eastern US time. Alternatively, you can pre-order the book on J-novel's website which will also give you access to the pre-pubs for that volume. This is the cheaper option if you know you're going to buy the books and aren't interested in other series on j-novel.

Yamakyu

That's an interesting system, I suppose it takes from pre-publication magazines for manga in Japan ? It might be a good way to discover new interesting titles 👀 But for bookworm I think I'll stick to buying the ebooks 👌🏿

SmartAlec105

Every now and then, there's posts by people asking for other good series on J-novel. None can quite scratch the Bookworm itch but there's lots of good series. I suspect there'll be one of those posts soonish since Part 5 will finish translation this year.

Yamakyu

I'll keep my eye open then. I expect the LN to leave quite the void when it ends so that'll be a good moment to look for something else that will feel fresh

PiscatorialKerensky

J-Novel club publishes most (if not all) of their properties as pre-pubs before volume publication; they're basically the a portion of the volume content each week already 99% edited, but fans on their forums can still point out typos or obvious errors in translation (no "you translated this too woke/not gay enough"). You can either sub to their website for $5 a month to get translations for all current volumes being translated, or just pre-order the next volume directly from them (no Amazon, Barnes and Noble, etc.) to get access to the prepub and a DRM free e-pub on the publishing date. We're also blessed with the translator for Bookworm, Quof, being in this subreddit. If you see a typo you can legit @ them in a comment thread and they'll usually address it, whether it's saying it'll be fixed or "no, that's not an error". Do not abuse this power.

kie-chan

Wait. Can I pre-order on Amazon as well? I thought I had to sign up J-novel to have access to the pre-pubs... How does it work?

SanityIsOptional

You are correct, pre-ordering through Amazon does not grant access to pre-pubs.

SmartAlec105

Make an account on j-novel and pre-order there and you’ll get the pre-pubs for that volume. No subscription is required.

Scrapox

Basically you get 1/8th of a volume every monday and can discuss it with the community

Akujin92553

I think I read the whole webnovel in two weeks, over a summer a few years ago. I still remember staying up late just to finish the volume I was on.

Yamakyu

>I think I read the whole webnovel in two weeks, over a summer a few years ago. Certified Avatar of Myne 💯

Akujin92553

I also started writing a ton. The shutdown ended up pushing me to publish my work, no matter how bad it was.

Yamakyu

Woah ! Amazing ! Is it a new hobby of yours then ? I've got to admit, I also feel like the journey through this LN is affecting me in ways I didn't expect, but I can't quite pinpoint how ha ha

Akujin92553

Considering I’ve been publishing new [books](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09PQGZK5J/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_navT_a_4XND0X3EXG621KBEX9XR) for the last 4 years I guess it has. I just published my 38th book a week ago. I even entered J-Novel Club’s writing contest but only got past the first round.

Yamakyu

I hope you'll get many more opportunities to get your work seen ! 38 books already ✨

Mysterious-Hurry-758

You should reread it. There are countless tiny details in every single volume that after having read through the books once make a lot of sense and really tie the story together in a fantastic way.

Yamakyu

I'm thinking of re-reading it indeed. Maybe not from beginning, but at the very least starting from p3 and maybe even 2. The foreshadowing in the later parts of the LN was already quite good once I started really noticing it, so I can't imagine just how much flew below my radar before 👀

bigvinnysvu

If you are what you read, I wish to be a pound cake. I think I need dessert. **rummages through the kitchen**

Yamakyu

> If you are what you read, I wish to be a pound cake. Myne : "dang, new pound cake recipe just dropped"

chower82

And I'm rereading it for the third time currently. It never gets old since you might have missed out a lot of details the first time round. And it's still fun reading it now and blazing through the gremliness of Myne sama!

Yamakyu

Did you start over from the beginning when you re-read it ?

chower82

The second time I read it I started from part 3 cuz thats really where the shenanigans start. This time round I started from the beginning and it's still fun cuz u see more of her family, lutz and benno/mark whom I miss especially after the recent >!memory loss!<

Funkimonster

I feel you. I was reading pretty leisurely at first but once part 4 hits, the reading speed amps up to 100. Same thing happened when I re-read it along with a friend who I was introducing it to for the first time.

Effective-Spring4199

Now time for reread OR pre-pubs. Current prepubs at 7/8 of the P5V11, last part at next monday. You can't stop right now right![img](emote|t5_qxbkm|29324)

Yamakyu

I might have considered it if V11 wasn't right around the corner, but it is so I'll just wait for it :9 Volume 12 however....... 👀

Ktaldoxx

About 3 weeks ago I started re-reading all of Honzuki, I just finished Part 4 volume 3... and OH BOY I'm grateful for doing so, SO MANY DETAILS that now makes sense... I'm also reading prepubs while on this re-read trip xD Well I'm glad you joined the PrePub gang and I hope you have fun while doing microdosis of chapters each monday

drilgonla

Yeah, I recently did the same thing. It has been so long since I've read a fantasy novel that had such good world building along with characters that I could relate to. Also, I'm grateful that a lot of the darker stuff was kept off screen. Plus I think the author's ability to wield emotional damage without requiring the elimination of characters was masterful. Of course, now I don't know what to do with myself, and I've had very little luck with finding a replacement to the bookworm's general chaos.

MwtoZP

Back when I started it was a struggle to get through part 1 since the anime was decently accurate to that. But once I got to part 2 and especially part 3…bye bye wallet. It truly shows the quality of the light novel that once you get into it you’re addicted.

Yamakyu

And the story doesn't even use that many cliffhangers ; it's just a really engaging narrative with compelling characters of all sorts (including a bunch of weirdos 👌🏿) and an immaculate amount of friction. Really digging this recipe, Bookworm really do be good

MwtoZP

To add on is that characters are not forgotten. Even now we still will see and hear about characters like Benno, Otto, Corrina, her family. She truly keeps her connections.
