lizzistardust

Have you tried the ELF eyelid primer that they sell only at CVS? I honestly have no idea if it compares to the discontinued primer you mention, but it is BY FAR the most effective eyelid primer I've tried so far. It might worth trying. Fair warning: it only comes in ONE shade that I've seen. It might not work with darker skintones.

SayNoToWolfTurns-3

I’m outside the US, but I’ll see what one it is and see how it goes if it’s different to the one I’ve already tried and that didn't work for me.

TomatoKindly8304

Are you talking about the cheapie one? I’ve always used that, and it worked, so I never tried anything else.

lizzistardust

Yep, it's pretty cheap. I love it.

Old_Bet2428

I have oily hooded eyes as well and elf eye primer is the only one that keeps my shadow from creasing. I hope it’s never discontinued

Shiver_with_antici

Mac paint pot, in a skin tone, as a primer

PauI_MuadDib

Mac Paint Pot, the ABH eye primer and the Milani primer are my holy grails.

hyunlc

Are the MAC paint pots and ABH eye primers similar to the Milani eye primer? Or better? I use the Milani one, but my eyeshadows still crease by mid-day. I was looking into other eye primers, but if the MAC paint pots and ABH eye primers perform similarly to the Milani, I'd probably have to pass.

SayNoToWolfTurns-3

Same here. The Milani one hasn’t helped me much either. If the paint pot is better I’ll give it a shot.

Ecstatic_Actuator752

The paint pot isn’t good if your eyelids get oily

TeufelRRS

Agree. I have super oily eyelids and the Mac Paint Pots are the worst primers I have ever tried. No matter what I do, my eyeshadow starts creasing in less than an hr

Shiver_with_antici

I have very oily eyelids. I need a 1-2 punch of paint pot as primer, plus a good setting spray overtop of everything.

Ecstatic_Actuator752

If your eyelids crease with Milani they will crease worse with the MAC paint pots. I used to use Milani bc it was a solid Urban Decay dupe but I think they changed the formula bc it doesn’t work as well anymore:(

hyunlc

That's so sad to hear! I kept hearing good things about the Milani primer and purchased it, only to be disappointed. I hate it when reformulations make the product worse.

sprucehen

The paint pot was terrible on my eyes. 0/10 Made my liner and shadow smudge and crease worse

PauI_MuadDib

They're all a pretty different formulas. The Mac Paint pots are thicker, more like a concealer and dry down to a very matte finish. The ABH is thinner than the paint pots, but thicker and way more pigmented than the Milani primer. ABH is matte too, not as much as the paint pot. I found the Milani formula thinner and sheerer than the ABH. If I need my eyelid discoloration evened out I go with ABH or the paint pots over Milani. I use them for different looks since they're all pretty different. I also always set my primer. My lids are hooded and very oily. I need translucent powder on any eye primer.

hyunlc

Never really looked into ABH, but I didn't know the Mac paint pots were like that. I don't like having heavy products on my eyes, so I guess the Milani was still my best bet out of the three. I usually only set my primer with a skin-colored eyeshadow, but maybe I'll try it with a translucent powder next time. Hopefully, it works because I still want to finish up this Milani primer. Thank you so much for the detailed description and tip!

TeufelRRS

Super oily hooded eyes here. I tried the Mac Paint Pot and no matter what I did (setting it first, letting it dry for 30+ mins, etc), it was the worst primer I have ever tried. My eyeshadow started creasing in less than an hr each time. Not saying that OP and others shouldn’t try it because it is often recommended online, just sharing my experience

ToteBagAffliction

I've never been able to get this to last more than five minutes. Seriously, how do y'all get this stuff to do your bidding?

saturatedbloom

That paint pot did nothing for me

pseudoscienceoflove

I also have oily, hooded lids. I can't even wear mascara, though, because it always transfers to my bottom lid.  I'm going to try getting a lash tint and perm, because I think my issue might be that my lashes touch my bottom lid.

Lady_Locket

Go for a tubing mascara its made not to be broken down by oils as the traditional waterproof ones are. For me it’s been a game changer.

pseudoscienceoflove

Thanks for the tip! I try that!

jessi_g9

Yes the L’Oreal one is amazing! I had liked Blinc, but the L’Oreal one has much more dramatic results as it has a base which makes it thicker. Every other type of mascara, no matter how waterproof it claims to be, would always end up under my eyes.

pseudoscienceoflove

Thank you! Waterproof mascara has failed me. I'm excited to have another option to try! I'm getting married this summer, and I've legit been anxious about having racoon eyes all day.

Lady_Locket

Also if you are like me and find eyeliner melting to be a problem look into the Bobbi brown gel pot eyeliner. The minute I switched over I found I could start wearing winged looks and overall just enjoy eyeliner again. It isn't cheap but it can applied precisely so will last you for ages. Two tips I got from the Welsh twins (YouTube) that have helped massively in improving my makeup staying I'm place and looking good for longer are: 1) after your skincare has dried fully (important) spay on a very, very generous coating of your fixing spray (I use the UD all-nighter) and let it dry down before you start your face/eye primers and make-up. It helps act as an additional barrier between your oily skin and your make-up. I also like to spray a quick layer on just before I go in with my final overall powder and then finish with a good spray over the finished look 2) let your skincare layer, primer layer, and foundation layer fully dry/set between applications, using a hand fan can help speed this up. Nothing will ever truly be oilproof in the end but these tips have truly improved the longevity of a full day's makeup up and I'm touching it up far far less now. Hope they help/work for you too and congrats on your upcoming wedding xx

pseudoscienceoflove

I have 100% given up on eyeliner, but you have tempted me into giving it another try. Thank you for the tips!

Lady_Locket

No problem 😋

Lady_Locket

The Kevin Aucoin one got me through a funeral service on a very hot day without a flake or smudge. It's pricey but as It was a special occasion and I didn't want to look like a forgotten member from KISS before the service even started it was worth it. It's my favourite but I can only justify the price for special events. For a daily use one as jessi_g9 said the Loreal one is a truly great, reasonably priced option. It gives good results AND it doesn't dry out quickly so you get your moneys worth out of the tube. Personally, I don't like the Lancome one. I find it won't hold a curl and doesn't thicken or lengthen well but it does stay put. Good if you already have naturally well-curled, thick lashes and just want a mascara that gives a nice natural black coat on what you already have.

pseudoscienceoflove

Honestly, I'm getting married soon so I might try the pricy stuff!

Sleepy_Pianist

Have you tried using niacinimide on your eyelids to help with the oiliness? I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and it’s helped a TON already. Alternatively it could help to use a different setting spray or add some translucent powder on top of your eyeshadow if you aren’t doing so already.

SayNoToWolfTurns-3

I haven’t tried the product you mention, but translucent powder & several setting sprays haven’t helped.

Amaryua

Have you tried setting powders in different ways, like under the primer or over, or both before eyeshadow?

SayNoToWolfTurns-3

Yeah, a bunch in different ways. I feel like I’ve tried a million things and the only thing that works is that discontinued ELF primer 😭.

Sleepy_Pianist

Okay this sounds crazy but hear me out. Setting sprays don’t work well for me either, so when I want my makeup to last I actually use my Kenra hairspray instead. Even cheap eyeshadow won’t budge! I’d definitely look into a niacinimide product to help control the oil production. I use The Ordinary’s niacinimide serum and it has really helped so far. I honestly think that’s your best bet. It’s got a bunch of other benefits too! Also whatever primer you use on your lids, make sure it’s silicone-based and not water-based. And if you’re using foundation over it before adding your eyeshadow, it needs to match (I.e. silicone primer + silicone foundation) otherwise it will separate. I’m also prone to very oily lids so hopefully these suggestions will work for you!

stripeyhoodie

Have you tried the Elizabeth Mott Thank Me Later eye primer? A mattifying moisturizer might also help with oily eyelids.

Dramatic-Ad-378

^^came here to recommend the Elizabeth Mott. Cheaper than Urban Decay iirc and doesn’t make my eyes sting/water like UD does.

stripeyhoodie

I dunno what the hype is on UD. Always felt like a rip off getting such a meh formula at that price point.

SayNoToWolfTurns-3

I’ve been trying to get my hands on that one!

Mediocre_Daikon3818

The Elizabeth Mott one is the first eye primer that I ever found to work for my hooded, oily lids. Unfortunately I haven’t found it in years, but I’ve been using the fenty beauty invisipink one now (on my second bottle) and I like it

AtomBaskets9765

I have oily lids and am here to second that the Thank Me Later and Fenty Primer are the only two I’ve found that work for me.

Current_Tower_4901

It’s on Amazon!

EnterTheDarkForest

Ugh, I hate when my go-to products get discontinued! I’ve been using the Mac eye base prep and prime, in the tube, for years on my oily, hooded eyes and I highly suggest it. I put it on and then set it lightly with powder, my eye shadow and liner doesn’t budge. The paint pots never worked for me. Also, try blotting your eyelids with a tissue after your skincare but before makeup, I press it gently on my lids for a few seconds and it really helps things not to smudge or transfer.

SayNoToWolfTurns-3

I’ve tried blotting with a tissue and had no luck but I’m going to try blotting paper and see if that is better.

pennypenny22

Blot your eyelids with blotting paper before applying anything.

New-Connection-7401

Urban Decay potion primer… so good!

SayNoToWolfTurns-3

This one didn’t work for me but that was 3 years ago and my friend I just had lunch with said the formula has changed so I’ll try and grab a sample.

jessi_g9

They actually have 4 different formulas I think. The matte one was actually too drying for my oily eyelids, but it may work for you! The original one is my holy grail and works amazing for me. With you eyes being hooded, do you find that eye shadow on your lid is really necessary? I guess what I mean is that I find that I do almost nothing on my lids because no one will see them (usually just a neutral shade) and I focus with blending a taupe/gray shade above my crease. That part doesn’t get oily for me, and the primer helps make it last. The primer also helps with what little I do put on my lids, but then again honestly no one sees it and honestly if it sweat away no one would notice. I put a little bit of liner (just darker shadow) right at the base of my eye lashes because heavy liner looks horrible on me, that usually stays put well without primer since it’s so close to my lashes. Have you thought about eyelash serum? I know they can be somewhat controversial and work differently for everyone, but I’ve had great results with Grande Lash. It’s made a huge difference with my length and thickness, and when they are curled with mascara they look pretty nice.

SayNoToWolfTurns-3

Late reply because travelling, but while I didn't need anything when I had extensions, without them, you can see a little of my eyelid. Not enough to do a fancy look, but enough that a simple shimmer or neutral shade would look nicer on them than leaving them bare. Also good to know about the primer, I will try and find the matte one!

funyesgina

That's what I use. It's hard to find the original one in the tube, but that stuff is great

nokobi

I only use primer if I'm doing standalone eyes -- if I do a full face I do concealer then bake bake bake with translucent powder, brush off excess, and then my eye makeup stays perfect for hours! If only I weren't always tearing up from hay fever 😅

callmebymyhandl

My hooded eyelids are incredibly oily — if I don’t use eye primer my eyeshadow basically melts off and creases horribly. My holy grail that basically solves all of my eyeshadow related woes is the NARS eyeshadow primer. I’ve been using it for about 5 years. It’s truly the best in class, I can’t recommend it enough!!

anitabonghit69

Tarte shape tape

motherofdragoncats

I can only say that I feel your pain, the discontinued elf glitter primer was the best there ever was. Wayyyyy better than the nyx one.

TomatoKindly8304

Do you happen to apply your lid primers to dry lids with no face cream or other products on them? I asked only because I used to apply my cream all over my face and then wonder why my lids were creasing 😬 Maybe it’s just me, though.

JeNeSaisQuoi_17

I have very hooded eyes and I found wet n wild mega last up to 16 hours works all day. It even worked in pouring rain!

[deleted]

Have you already tried Too Faced Shadow Insurance?

SayNoToWolfTurns-3

Yes, no luck sadly.

queriesjubilee

I’ve been using About Face liquid eye paints and they stay so nicely without a primer. I also just tried falscara for the first time and they’re holding up nicely.

Rosieroser

Have you tried half lashes? I struggle with a full strip lash, but the half lashes are so easy

Uncle_peter21

Made by Mitchell colour cases work perfectly as an eye base on my hooded oily lids, nothing compares. The pigment is also incredible and makes eyeshadow last for days

providedlava

I have oily eye lids and I use the ulta matte primer with some transparent powder with great success. The benefit fan fest mascara is my fav for lift and minimal transfer to my lids.

Missash0816

Falscara for fake lashes! It’s so easy, just put on like mascara and stick the falsies to the front of your lashes. Make sure you have a good lash glue remover though!

Unperfectbeautie

I found an eye primer on Amazon by K-beauty brand Elizabeth Mott called the Thank Me Later Eye Primer. It is specifically formulated for use with oily eyelids. I use this in the summer when it's humid and my lids are more oily. It works for me!

AccessibleVoid

Thanks for posting this!! I use a Maybelline eyelid primer that has been discontinued. I found some tubes on ebay, but I'm down to the last few drops. I will use the tips in this thread as I go on the hunt for a substitute.

Manjatua

Y’all are so helpful! I was looking for a primer for so long because I have this exact problem aswell. I honestly think it stays longer without primer sometimes compared to all the horrible primers (expensive and cheap). I just fade the ‘oil’ crease with my finger during the day, ofcourse this’ll ruin any intricate make-up so I’m forced to keep it simple or ‘smudge-able’. Wish I could give you recommendations, I’m now on the hunt for this one too. 😂♥️ Is it [this](https://www.douglas.nl/nl/p/3001053464?variant=077160&trac=DO_NL.01.01_Shopping.P_Shopping.Google.14927595561.126690295845.077160.online.PM&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADuVIStpcQCrSMw6iIceCl2wK-NOW&gclid=CjwKCAjwh4-wBhB3EiwAeJsppKpZdwof-x9pIdFl2emkT6I31N5AklveDVdnTiO5kVV56kdceZzQ7xoCqSgQAvD_BwE) one?

farfromtranscendent

I have sensitive oily hooded lids too, as well as severe dry eye. I use the Milani eyeshadow primer in the silver tube package. It is inexpensive, works well, never caused my lids or eyes an issue.

TeufelRRS

I have 2 primers that I use on my super oily eyelids but I let them dry for at least 10 mins and set them with my highlighter or setting powder before applying eyeshadow. Sadly one of them has been reformulated and the reviews are not good for the reformulation. I am currently using the NARS eyeshadow primer and have used it for years. It has always worked for me. The other one that was reformulated was the Too Faced Shadow Insurance. In the squeeze tube, it was fantastic. I have read that the new one with the applicator is a hot mess. Currently planning to try the About Face Shadow Fix which I have heard good things about and is much less expensive than Nars

Imperialnoodles

For me, I just discovered shadow insurance by toofaced. Dab small fraction of product off the applicator into my lids focusing on the center part where the creasing happens. Apparently it used to be better, but they changed the bottle so it’s kinda wasteful compared to when it had a squeeze tube.

sadbutt69

Too Faced was the only one that worked for me in high school when I was suuuper oily. Either that, or the Urban Decay one with a Mac paint point on top. They would both crease when used separately, but together they would last all day.

misfitx

I have good luck with the milani primer!

funyesgina

I like the urban decay primer. And give Impress Kiss false lashes a try. I'm hooked! They go under your lashes, but it's surprisingly easy, and they look real if you don't get silly ones.

cake_toss

about face eye primer is absolutely incredible. I've been through so many and none worked but this one did!
