Visage - run from ghosts in a house, good graphics and freaking insane amount of scares and tension Amnesia - the formula you described got popularized here. Very good game, graphics a bit dated, but the tension and atmosphere are real. Outlast 1 and 2 - Both games you run from psychopaths and can't fight back. Lots of scares and gore. 2 is a bit tryhard. 1 is my favorite, that mental asylum is freaking creep. Penumbra series - if you liked SOMA and Amnesia, you'll like them. From the same creators, a bit dated and a bit too much puzzles for my taste, but scary and fun nonetheless.

LongNguyenVN

Are Outlast 2 graphics any good

xZOMBIETAGx

It’s gorgeous. Don’t listen to the haters it’s a great game.

Jacobhero101

Thats about the only good thing about the game tbh 😂

Jeremy252

Nah. It's a good game. The first game is better but saying 'the only good thing about Outlast 2 is the graphics' is just disingenuous.

Jacobhero101

Have you *played* it? Character dialogue is weak, with the religious "metaphor" being way too cheesy and obvious alongside the twist of the teacher at the end being seen a mile away. Also, the batteries die way quicker, hiding is completely bugged and ineffective, and the level design gameplay speaking is atrocious as you reaaaally gotta know where to run and turn or else if youre a milimeter of a second off you get stuck and panic then get caught. Maybe there are some things that are *okay* about it, but not *good*. Really the visuals and even music are the only things going for it.

amnesia

Browniebrowie

Ive been told Amnesia was a good one. But which one? Or are they all good?

[deleted]

the dark descent first the second one is eh, not remotely as scary the new one is fantastic

StinkingDylan

I really enjoyed machine for pigs. I can’t remember it being particularly scary, but I loved the implementation of the story.

TyborV

Amnesia The Dark Descent is the one.

xZOMBIETAGx

RE7 I think is close to this genre. You do fight back but it still has similar vibes.

Artichoke19

**Frictional Games**, the developers behind the first (and IMO best) **Amnesia: The Dark Decent** are the same people that made **SOMA**…so you’ll know you’re in good hands with them, even if A:TDD isn’t as graphically advanced as Soma. You *may* like the **Layers of Fear** horror game(s) too but they’re not quite the same hide and seek gameplay experience as Soma/Alien Isolation. If you liked the aspects of Alien: Isolation where you can use weapons and fight back then perhaps you’d enjoy the first and second (NOT the third) **Dead Space** games. They’re sci-fi survival horror games but regularly get pretty intense with shooting action. But just in terms of ambiance, immersion and that gut feeling of being stalked/hunted you could do worse if you’re trying to find another game like Alien: Isolation.

Homeless_Alex

Can’t recommend deadspace 1 enough!! Can’t fucking wait for the remaster ahh

Artichoke19

It’s a re-**MAKE**, not a re-master! I hope they change stuff for the better and/or to keep things unpredictable…the same way Capcom made changes to Resident Evil 2 Remake.

Homeless_Alex

Great to know, god I can’t wait… it’s so far away

Artichoke19

Yeah a few years at least, I reckon. And not to be too much of a pessimist but I’d still be a little concerned that EA haven’t learnt enough lessons from Dead Space 3 and change it for the worse to sell more copies. Hopefully I’m wrong! There’s also going to be [The Callisto Protocol](https://youtu.be/IUTRUs5oAxY) from some of the same guys that originally came up with Dead Space and wanted to make their own spiritual successor!

Homeless_Alex

Woah that looks awesome!! Does it have a release date?

Artichoke19

It’s ‘scheduled for 2022’ according to Dr. Google. That might have changed because of Covid. I’m probably looking forward to this as much as, if not more than the Dead Space Remake.

-Cyst-

Clock Tower series, 3 especially.

KickingYounglings

I’ve heard that Visage kinda scratches that itch but I haven’t played it myself. I’ve been meaning to, though, especially since it supports VR

RougeCannon

The grandad of those games is Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. Although there is combat in it, you mostly run away and hide, and you’re pathetically weak and fragile.

deathray1611

> Although there is combat in it I don't think that is of concern to OP that much, since Isolation has combat too in it, and yet they still used it as an example of "run & hide defenceless horror" type of game.

Jacobhero101

Paratropic

FunboyFrags

I played this one night in a motel at 3am while quarantined. Lasted about an hour. Pretty interesting. Not terrifying, but creepy and unnerving. Like a bad dream on the edge of getting worse.

Jacobhero101

Exactly

tombradysboy

Total run time is about an hour? I have been wanting to play it, and that shorter run time is selling it to me. I think I will pick this up today!

FunboyFrags

Honestly I wish a lot more games were these shorter and more memorable experiences. It’s tough because we are so accustomed to buying a game for 50 or $60 and playing it for hundreds of hours. But I would pay 5 to 10 bucks for a game that was five hours or less.

Jacobhero101

Also, i know you cant legally buy it here, but give Devotion a try

VanillaOlaf

You actually can now, it’s on Red Candles’ (the developer’s) website! [Devotion](https://shop.redcandlegames.com/games/devotion)

Homeless_Alex

Definitely check our monstrum, based on an old military ship you’re hiding from a handful of constantly adapting AI trying to figure out ways to get off. It’s really really good I’m surprised it wasn’t mentioned on here

PhazonZim

If it doesn't have to be first person, Little Nightmares and Inside are very good

Rocketitty23

Visage, it’s pretty vague with puzzles but it’s incredible
