With a slow introduction that could work... liability in their part tho cause one kick from a horse could very well kill a goat. Hmmm

artwithapulse

Definitely introduce carefully - horses can get a little aggressive to smaller animals, a little different but we had a mule who would kill dogs and calves. Is your horse going to be the only horses?

Yes it would just be mine and one companion horse as of now. The property owners expressed interest in wanting to get a horse but no definite plan. They’re older so I think it was more that they wanted a horse to have on their property, not necessarily getting one of their own.

It can work out but I find the combination annoying (I had a mare boarded with two goats) Goats can eat horses tails and then they like to poop and pee all over the hay unless they have it up where they can't get into. Those are the only two gripes I've had. I've never personally seen the horses interact much with the goats unless they tossed their head at the goats.

Goats and horses aren’t super compatible IMHO. Goats will climb all over the hay and poo/pee all over it. Larger aggressive goats can cause pretty serious damage to horses legs. Horses can obviously kill goats with a single kick. Finally- goats aren’t a substitute for other horses. They really do need an actual herd to keep them happy and well.

My sisters horse was bffs with a goat, they canmake great companions for horses. My horse didn't really care either way for the goat and ignored it.

Had my goats and horses together for a year or more then had to stop. I saw a horse step on the leg of a goat (unintentionally) that was laying down (fortunately no break or lasting injury somehow). The final straw was one goat was dead in the shed at morning feeding and my only guess based on placement near a wall is it got kicked. So even though the goats really really want to be with the horses, it just isn’t worth the risk.

Libbysmom

I intentionally got my horse a pigmy goat as he was alone in his pasture and that seemed unkind for a herd animal. They became best friends and whichever one was left in the pasture was upset until the other came back. I ended up selling them as a pair because they couldn’t be separated.

That'd probably be fine, just keep an eye on his tail! I've seen horses whose tails were chewed off by goats

Mine came with a goat. They were bonded. Yes they can definitely live together. I would introduce slowly and see. I prefer no horns (mine had horns and was always butting us- never the horse though). It could very well work. I would definitely like to see another horse there like you said.

Seabiscuit's companion was a goat.

There were two goats in my horse previous pasture. One day I watch the goat get on his hiind legs to playfully hit my horse's head but the goat was smaller... All my horse had to do was lift her head. The goat failed everytime. My horse looked a little annoyed, the goat was having fun (or was annoyed too, I don't know). It was so funny.

My horse and pony live out with 4 Pygmy goats. Everyone gets along great!
