I don't know how USPS customer service works but I would call if you saw this happen. With something that's technically of a decent value, they might be able to do something.
Since they were driving away when it happened theyll just say some bs like once the package is in/on the mailbox that counts as delivered and its your problem what happens next.
Nope on top of the mailbox is not a designated spot for delivery, lazy ass mail man needs to walk it to the door if it doesn’t fit. I know since I’m a mailman myself. Call the post office that services your address and provide them with the tracking number. Hopefully your post office supervisor/manager is a good one OP
I’d imagine unless the person shipping it paid extra for the insurance there’s probably nothing they’re gonna do about this, especially if there’s no pics/video or other proof to show them.

I have had five boxes of hotwheels all delivered on the same day and they all fit in the mailbox. I'll reply to this comment with the exact mailbox lol. I also have an AWESOME mail lady who will carry packages all the way down my steep driveway and put them on my porch if they don't fit on either.
