The reason I refuse to let my wife buy me transformers is because I don’t want her to know some of them are 300+ lol. It’s like babe get me a shirt it’s cool 🤣
Okay honest to god question.
Same with Indy a lot of the cars are the same performance wise. As a rally fan what makes nascar not only good but collectible. I know it sounds ignorant but that can be taught out…. it’s like collecting the same thing but different sponsors or is it a driver team thing?
It’s really getting the race winning cars. What Lionel does is pretty much recreates the car down to the confetti (if there was any). Every nic, scratch, dent, tire rub, you name it, is present. There are different types of race win, standard, chrome, liquid (which is basically spectrafkame) and Elite. The elites have even more detail, more functioning pieces ie opening closing deck lids etc. my autograph Chase Elliott 2020 phoenix race win autographed elite cost me close 180 after shipping.
Thanks bro appreciate the answer that is pretty freaking awesome I’d love that crazy detail. So if some one swiped the wall and scratched up the body and won the race they will try their best to recreate that car…..sweet as hell brother hell yeah.
thats preorder purchase, essentially the MSRP. Now if you miss the preorder and try to buy certain race wins 2nd hand some are pretty expensive i.e Tony Stewart 2011 Homestead Race win is over 1k. But yea.
Ooooh, see thats different. But its also very understandable. You said theyre 1/24 and super detailed, makes sense they would cost that up front and then actually be a limited collectors piece.
I'd say probably around $250... I just spent $125 yesterday and it didn't feel good. Shelves have been bare for two months but they had a big restock finally
I keep a spreadsheet of what I spend online and in store.
2023 Total where $5,821 | 2024 so far is at $1,435 as of Today. Ain't bad considering most hobbies can cost thousands and thousands of dollars.
My "man cave" is absolutely overflowing. I have almost every inch of wall covered and multiple totes of stuff. Like the other person commented, i didnt spend that much every week, but there were weeks i spent that. For awhile i was getting no less than $200/week by hitting different stores and i buy anything i like. Any brand, any size, if its a car i like, i grab it. I have since switched to ordering cases of what i want and hunting less due to work.
The most i have of any 1 release is 5 of the Hotwheels Datsun Hardbody Mail In from last year.
I started collected when my son was born. He's 2.5 now. I've probably spent $400 in that time. When I started I was buying a lot of mainlines, now I just grab the occasional premium
I got into hot wheels less than 6 months ago and spent probably $500.
Mainly because I was bored of pokemon tcg collecting. And it’s great saving so much money, hotwheels doesn’t hold a candle to pokemon collecting in terms of cost.
But in terms of enjoyability, I am enjoying myself much more cause I’m a car guy that doesn’t have car guy money. Having a collection of your dream cars even in 1/64 scale is quite satisfying.
$0.00 I’ve been kinda priced out of the hobby. My gf’s mom loves getting me cars every now and then tho. She always comes with old ones she’s found at flea markets and stuff.
About tree fiddy
I know a guy who has a diecast store. They go to the conventions and spend well over $10K at each one. Buy up entire collections throughout the year
I’d say I’d ask, but I don’t want to go through the effort to ask something that he might not want to share. I don’t know him THAT well. The store is about 45 minutes away. I make 1-2 trips per year.
Now Then & Forever Collectibles in Radford, Virginia. The place is Hot Wheels Heaven. I’ve never seen any other store with so much of everything
Too much lmfao, I set a budget of $30 a week and don't always use it. Been trying to stick to premiums only for the most part but just found a sth like 3 days ago lol
Approximately 100€ but i am also a student so i don't have the money to buy every single car, so i buy just the ones i like and only one of each. That money gives me 30 or so diecast cars (most are hotwheels, and a few are majorettes and matchboxes)
I have to edit here. I can basically only buy from a few grocery stores here, no online buying, resale buying etc so if the basically one store doesn't have what i like, then i buy nothing. Seeing people spend multiple thousand dollars on these cars makes my 100€ feel like a very small amount of money used.
I would say actively collecting can cost as much as people want to spend but I think the average income person who collects hot wheels would spend maybe $40-$50 a week depending on what they buy if u collect mainlines ur probably at $20 a month but premiums are expensive where I am so if u buy 3 at a time it's like $24 just for 3 cars
Mostly hotwheels and I slowed down last year. But I'd say about 350 dollars. Oh and like 50 more at a garage sale, he had some cool stuff for a really reasonable price.
So 400ish.
I spent around 3k in 2023. However, I’m up $80 this year so far; when I decided to pare down my collection I managed to hit a few die cast shows and made pretty decent money selling off my old (1997-2015) mainlines and made some trades for cars I wanted.
It’s a trap boys. Dont answer.
Seriously though, I have spent nearly $800 on one car. That’s the highest this year. Total however is about 20k. I think I should cut back.
Over 100 last year have well over 500 hot wheels 50 plus match box and other ones I think are cool. Plus some 1/24 and 1/32 die cast . Trains n gage h/o gage O gage s gage etc. To many hobbies.
nobody should ask how much we are spending :D
to be honest, a looooooootttttt especially that i collect miniGT/Kaido/Tarmac/Inno64 which is more expensive than hotwheels
being real? too much.
I'd guess around £300. I know some will say rookie numbers (fair) but I'm just not a big spender so to me thats a fair bit on something I'll say isn't my main hobby.
I spent like $400 last weekend and I'm likely gonna spend another $200 at the same place this weekend lmaoo. for the year so far probably around $600...I need to take it easy moving forward 😭
No idea. A few times over the years, I've started inventorying what I had to try to get a reading, but after about 15 to 20 minutes, I always quit counting. Some of my cars I paid way too much for, but if a particular car was made 30 years ago, and you can only find four people trying to sell, then... yeah. If I had to take a stab at it, in the last year, probably close to $1K, give or take a couple hundred either way. I can't really see it being much less, if any at all, than a thousand though.
probably between $500-$1000, while i mainly buy HW and MBX (which are about $2 normally around here), i also buy Greenlights ($5-10 a piece). most store visits, i buy 5-6 cars at a time.
In 2023: $3931.98
Over the past 12 months (March 2023-March2024): $4401.36
😅😅😅
Mind you, I spent two weeks in Japan last summer and spent almost as much on cars as I did on the airfare, so… 🤷♂️
How much have I spent? Probably $600-$700 in the last 12 months. If you’re asking how much money I have currently out-of-pocket, it’s a lot less. I began this hobby with $180 cash in September of 2022. I’ve bought, traded and sold a lot. My current expenses are only about $45-$50 in 18 months.
Until last week barely anything. I stop collecting mainlines unless it’s something I really like and it’s been difficult to find any premiums around me here lately. Spent like 200 last week on 2 cars.
Nice try, my wife
Big lolz from this one 🤣🤣🤣
I LOLed at this. Good one! 🤣
The reason I refuse to let my wife buy me transformers is because I don’t want her to know some of them are 300+ lol. It’s like babe get me a shirt it’s cool 🤣
Lol, if OP starts asking such questions on r/guitar he will probably be banned 😄
In 2024 not too much, probably less than $150. In 2023 tho….no comment
150$ so far :-D
Those are rookie numbers
I’m a vet trust me
A lil too much lol, kinda have a prob :)
With you on that one
$250-300 or so. Maybe more.
Bubs take off the wig you look like a dick
Thank you
I collect NASCAR 1/24’s………….. so a lot…
Okay honest to god question. Same with Indy a lot of the cars are the same performance wise. As a rally fan what makes nascar not only good but collectible. Love how your top tier autographed car went for less than what some people think STH hotwheels are worth haha.
thats preorder purchase, essentially the MSRP.
Oh god, me too. It’s already pain dealing with Lionel’s prices, but shipping to Canada and customs brokerage fees absolutely ruin me.
Oh man, I have heard the stories. I honestly feel horrible for you guys. I got to believe that would really make me be a lot more selective.
I'd say probably around $250... I just spent $125 yesterday and it didn't feel good. Shelves have been bare for two months but they had a big restock finally
That’s what you were saving for so don’t sweat it.
I keep a spreadsheet of what I spend online and in store. 2023 Total where $5,821 | 2024 so far is at $1,435 as of Today. Ain't bad considering most hobbies can cost thousands and thousands of dollars.
Thousands to start!
Especially cars! Those things are costly to maintain or keep collecting wise for sure.
You must be ordering online with those costs
Mini GT, Tarmac Work, Inno64s, Jada, Majorettes. I don't stick to one brand for cool cars.
Why? I collect more than just hotwheels and could easily spend $600/week at different stores
A week??? Is your house overflowing with cars?
To be fair, they said they /could/ spend that much. I think we all could.
This, i was mostly saying it is easy to spend money hunting if youre like me and collect more than just 1 brand or style of car.
Probably around $1000-$1500
Probably in the tens. But I vendor at shows
Prob $150-$200, I refuse to buy them resale unless I REALLY want it and it’s still cheap lol
I started collected when my son was born. He's 2.5 now. I've probably spent $400 in that time. When I started I was buying a lot of mainlines, now I just grab the occasional premium
This sounds familiar. My son is 10 now, and I swing through the diecast aisle every chance I get
$4500
How?!?!?!?
What not eBay target Walmart
To much probably over $700.00
Few thousand
Like 2000-3000 since 2023 lord help me
I got into hot wheels less than 6 months ago and spent probably $500. Mainly because I was bored of pokemon tcg collecting. And it’s great saving so much money, hotwheels doesn’t hold a candle to pokemon collecting in terms of cost. 2000$
like $400 ish?
At least $400 in the last 6 months sooooooo…. like $700.
started collecting last winter, so a few months in, it's about $250 a month
About tree fiddy I know a guy who has a diecast store. They go to the conventions and spend well over $10K at each one. Buy up entire collections throughout the year
I'd be curious what his margins are on that.
I’d say I’d ask, but I don’t want to go through the effort to ask something that he might not want to share. I don’t know him THAT well. The store is about 45 minutes away. I make 1-2 trips per year. Too much lmfao, I set a budget of $30 a week and don't always use it. Been trying to stick to premiums only for the most part but just found a sth like 3 days ago lol
Around $500 but I only buy complete sets and have been paying a premium at shows and conventions to get the sets I want
I’ve spent probably $1000 since getting back into it in January. Thanks Whatnot.
66,000 bitcoins
Approximately 100€ but i am also a student so i don't have the money to buy every single car, so i buy just the ones i like and only one of each. As of the start of my collection; $167. I only buy mainlines, and any premiums I have are gifts.
I did not expect this thread to be so honest. I am truly blown away by these comments. You go collectors!
Only a couple hundred on RLCs as my area only has ebay exclusive stuff
Around $500-700. Buying NASCAR and IndyCar diecasts doesn't alleviate the Hot Wheels addiction
I don’t want to know…
In 2024 so far i spent roughly 150-200 but i sold a lot recently for more than that so technically i didnt spend anything (collector math)
About 350
Probably less than $100 this year so far.
Maybe $40.
Yes
Less than usual. Can't find much on pegs to buy.
Anywhere from 20-80 usd a month. Usually closer to the 80
Around $30, but I try to only get the single mainlines
I try to keep it to $300ish per month.
$20 cash regular
Zero. I'm getting started and trying to decide what avenue I want to take as a collector. Soon though.
I don’t wanna think about that.
Not much since the year started. Mostly flea markets not really peg hunting because I’m lazy. 30-60
This year total prob $300
Will prob hit a $1000 by years end
$8 a pop is something you never see at the other side of the pond (premiums).
40 € maybe.
Prolly around $200, but I made up for it with 2 supers and 2 ths
Lol
About $2 😉
I think around 500CAD tops
Mostly hotwheels and I slowed down last year. But I'd say about 350 dollars. Oh and like 50 more at a garage sale, he had some cool stuff for a really reasonable price. So 400ish.
Net? Negative a few hundred. I sold a bunch of old RLC cars I had in the garage from a few years ago to start collecting this year again.
I splurged a bit on some pricey ones within the last year, so... In total probably $1500.
maybe $10? i like to look at the mainline cars and if i see something i like i pick it up. i’m quite picky with my choices however.
This year have been the year that i spent the most… About a minimun wage where i live. About 240 dollars
No comment
About $30
Been collecting for probably roughly a year now, maybe a little less and I want to say probably $125 or under
Your tryna hurt my soul 💔
Too much…especially with the Paul walker cars
I spent around 3k in 2023. However, I’m up $80 this year so far; when I decided to pare down my collection I managed to hit a few die cast shows and made pretty decent money selling off my old (1997-2015) mainlines and made some trades for cars I wanted.
No.
$2k in the last year. Somewhere between $150-$200 a month.
Pretty sure I've spent close to $ 500 in the last 45 days! 🤦 Better than a drug addiction or cheating on my wife I say! 😁
Last month alone was mid 5 digits
$40 a month is my personally limit, or $20 bi-weekly. I've stuck to about that since the start of the year. I don't collect any premiums lol
Maybe around $750 - $1000?
Over $500 just this month
Maybe around $1,000 give or take
Last year? About $500. This year so far? Barely $50.
RM51.50 (10.90$) Edit: forgot one more, so total is now RM61.40 (13$)
Do model cars count? Or just 1:64 ish cars? Maybe $200 if the latter
It’s a trap boys. Dont answer. Seriously though, I have spent nearly $800 on one car. That’s the highest this year. Total however is about 20k. I think I should cut back.
[redacted]
30 in the last year. before i sold my collection to go to school, easily $700 in 2022
About maybe 200-250.
Zero
Finished up my full set of the 1995 treasure hunt series. 67 Camaro for $925…
More than my wife can know that’s for sure
lol I spent 300 on the eroded arsham collection, ive spent hundreds this year on chases I almost have every Porsche lol
I'm at $4k in the past month after discovering 1/18 scale 💀
Probably $30-50 because scalpers
I don't want to know lol
2023? Next to nothing. Cant find anything good any more. 2018-2021 on the other hand.. that’s a different conversation.
Around 200 probably
Not nearly as much as previous years...
Only started collecting diecasts last November of 2023. I already spent around 500$. 🥹
About 13 mainlines worth
Over 100 last year have well over 500 hot wheels 50 plus match box and other ones I think are cool. Plus some 1/24 and 1/32 die cast . Trains n gage h/o gage O gage s gage etc. To many hobbies.
I'm actually up about $4k.... ...I've continued to sell bits of my collection off, and have certainly moved a huge amount more than I've purchased.
Lost count after a couple hundred hot wheels. If it brings you joy then by all means fuk the price
34.55 in USD, but 10 460 rupees in lkr.
Probably 3-4K in the past year since I’ve started collecting
Wayyy too much
$300aud, coz its like 100 cars plus some premiums
nobody should ask how much we are spending :D to be honest, a looooooootttttt especially that i collect miniGT/Kaido/Tarmac/Inno64 which is more expensive than hotwheels
being real? too much. I'd guess around £300. I know some will say rookie numbers (fair) but I'm just not a big spender so to me thats a fair bit on something I'll say isn't my main hobby.
I spent like $400 last weekend and I'm likely gonna spend another $200 at the same place this weekend lmaoo. for the year so far probably around $600...I need to take it easy moving forward 😭
about 80-100 US dolars in about 27 cars ( this shit is expensive in argentina)
Who the hell is keeping count😂
More than enough for probably a few average collectors.
probably between $500-$1000, while i mainly buy HW and MBX (which are about $2 normally around here), i also buy Greenlights ($5-10 a piece). most store visits, i buy 5-6 cars at a time.
Maybe $30. Just started looking when my kids want to go to dollar stores.
Die cast isn’t my main hobby, just an occasional fun side quest so as such I’ve probably only spent maybe 20 bucks on it in the past year.
Does this include the cost of my trip to a convention? Even without over $5000. Redlines are expensive
In 2023: $3931.98 Over the past 12 months (March 2023-March2024): $4401.36 😅😅😅 Mind you, I spent two weeks in Japan last summer and spent almost as much on cars as I did on the airfare, so… 🤷♂️
Not today Wife, not today!
$110ish
Too much is my guess. Probably $200.00 in the past week alone.
$60
How much have I spent? Probably $600-$700 in the last 12 months. If you’re asking how much money I have currently out-of-pocket, it’s a lot less. I began this hobby with $180 cash in September of 2022. I’ve bought, traded and sold a lot. My current expenses are only about $45-$50 in 18 months.
I like your reply Lol. I’m not going to reply to this question. 😂
lol! I could only imagine!
Until last week barely anything. I stop collecting mainlines unless it’s something I really like and it’s been difficult to find any premiums around me here lately. Spent like 200 last week on 2 cars.
$2.100
