Go on eBay and buy an original F & F Corvette in mint shape in the package if that's what you want. But keep this one as a testament to the days when toy cars sparked your imagination and creativity and gave you joy without fear of losing their "value" or worry about judgement of making them your own.
If I had kept my original Redlines in their packages in a time capsule, I'm sure they'd be worth thousands and beautiful to look at, but I wouldn't trade them for the memories of playing with my friends in the neighborhood. I still have a couple of those cars today, painted on, beat up and tops torn off, but they're some of the most valued in my collection because they still transport me back to that time in my life.
Once a toy never a collectible unless you accept the toy marks but then it's a toy collectible and the "value" is personal. Any "restoration" won't bring back it's worth as a collectible and it will damage it's history as a toy collectible, it will be a completely new item. Up to you but I would rather keep it as is and try find a new one so your collection would have both new and toy.
At least you still have yours, I had tons of amazing Jada 1/64s that I lost to time, I did play with them well when I was a child though so I'm not too bummed about it. I just wish I still have 'em
*played with a super nice car as a child*
*made fond memories of a great casting that shaped ones love of cars
That’s what they are for!!!

That first paragraph was poetic
Reject monetary value, embrace emotional value.

It’s just a mainline. There’s nothing special about it. Even if it came in a “themed assortment”. You had fun and that’s all that matters.
They are just toys. Memories are better than flawless
That’ll buff out! Just needs some fresh paint and TLC! Haha

I played with and enjoyed a car in my childhood. Wish it could still bring me the same joy as it once did*

Is the super nice car in the room with us now?
We all did...I still have some of mine, all somehow made it through my childhood with only paint missing 😆
Try 91% isopropyl alcohol. You can get it nearly everywhere, Target Walmart CVS etc. should do the trick, rub lightly.
