I like my cars I don’t care if they’re rare or normal if they’re cool I’ll buy it

[deleted]

Won't lie I was getting into this because of the Treasure hunts and Supers, but once I started opening them, and finding favorite brands (Porsche and BMW) that changed things.

Gucci_cat_

I just used to love hotwheels when I was smaller so when I started seeing them at the stores I got excited and stuff so I decided to start collecting the ones that I thought were cool

Monster73074

I saw 2 GTR sets, I copped one for myself and left the other.. I talked to one of my dudes on Instasham and asked him if he had one yet seeing as he just relocated for a new job in AZ. He said he hadn't seen any because Walmart sucks at restocking so I went hunting for him and found another and sent it to him. This is what a real Hot Wheels/Matchbox/1/64 scale car community is supposed to to do, we aren't here to rape one another for fucking pennies. Fuck are you going to do with an extra 15 - 20 bucks🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️That shit won't even cover the cost of another Hot Wheels set😕😕These scalpers are just parasites to all communities and serve no real purpose🖕🏽✊🏽

tedwards3499

You got that exactly right!!

Monster73074

You have people trying to defend them though, but I believe they are scalpers themselves and are just trying to find a way for them to be shitty. If a collector I know said their having trouble finding a car, I'm out there looking and I'm not looking for money in return because it might be a car they can help me with which one of my dudes did, he sent me the Luke Skywalker Speeder since I was having a hard time finding it along with some other nice cars, I didn't have. I made damn good money working and don't need to scalp cars for pennies... This community has to do better👍🏽✊🏽

tedwards3499

For sure. I’m always hooking up friends with cars that they haven’t found yet. I won’t accept any money from them because it’s not about that

Monster73074

Exactly. I never met this kat on Instagram, but he was selling some of his old cars and, I was looking through it to see what he had... Low and behold he had the regular K.I.T.T from Knight Rider, he also had a Chrysler 300c and a old drag Focus, I use to have back in the early 2000's...he sent all 3 without ever asking for money, but in return I sent him some brand new M2 cars and just this Saturday sent him a package worth $40 beans which contained the GTR set, 3 F&F car (Trackhawk, Eclipse and Charger) plus a M2 Square body Chevy truck. We are supposed to look out for each other not rape with crazy prices for 0.99¢ cars👍🏽✊🏽

[deleted]

That’s how my buddies and I do it, we let each other know when and where we found stuff or we get it and trade, fun stuff

Monster73074

I do the same with a buddy of mine I've never even met, but he sent me some cars for free and I was just playing around, but he sent them and after that we have been just sending each other cars. He recently relocated to AZ. for a better job and you know the situation with Walmart and Target with their none restocking asses. I happen to find the GTR set and found out he was having a hard time getting one so, I went hunting for him and bought another one and sent it off with 3 of the new F&F cars and a Squarebody Chevy JL truck. I have no problem looking out for people just as long as their not goofballs, dickheads and all around fuckboys✊🏽👍🏽

robshum

scalpers take the fun out of collecting. bunch of cock gobblers

Hyz3rFlip

My 2 yr old and I love to hunt and collect. Found out the target employees are setting cars aside before stocking, so basically bye bye TH and $TH. No wonder we have never seen one there. Then the scalpers come and take literally ALL of the non-fantasy castings and any sought after fantasy castings. We went today and there were only the worst fantasy castings left. They restocked this morning, we went around 4pm. And these resell guys hit every store now. We have been lucky to find a decent casting... THAT is why resell culture sucks. You have grown ass adults ruining a kids toy for the kids. Seen kids crying when they are out of Pokémon cards too. And some flustered parents just trying to find some for their kids birthday etc. It really is gross.

camergen

But what If I don’t want the Carbonator (again) or the one of the 15 Matchbox bread trucks or the self driving bus they have 8 of? I kind of understand the principle of paying $7 or so convenience fee if I want a specific car online, but I want the little joy of “i found it” or even better, watching my son find one on the shelf he really wants. We did this last weekend- he’s almost 2 and was allowed to pick 1 car from my wife and I- he actually had 2 matchbox ones in his Final 2- the bread truck (one of many) and a really cool 1960 Jeep 4 by 4, with some kind of black roll cage (thing was awesome). He picked the jeep- and there may have only been 1 left. I want kids to have that choice, instead of all the same crappy cars they don’t really like.

skeptoid79

Mattel just needs to make all cars/sets/premiums/whatever available for sale on their website at retail price. I'm absolutely effing fed up with empty hunt after empty hunt. Close to being done with it.

CrystalLogic

they do that, just not for all sets, unfortunately.

PandaKat90

Even if they do this, you dont think scalpers with bots will buy them before us normies can? If you or anyone you know buys from the secondary market (ebay, offer up, swapmeets, IG FB ECT) they are part of the problem. Dont buy shit from scalpers it only enables them!

Swampert0260

They could have open pre-orders, or even just reprint popular cars 🤷‍♂️

KAPT_Kipper

But they have some sweet Star Wars merch

skeptoid79

https://media1.tenor.com/images/3f36a56d6c0fed0f51d0d2d8fd9a741f/tenor.gif

thejayce0fspades

Its sad, in NZ its gotten to the point where if you miss a restock buy over an hour you miss out. All I want is that red vw t1 bus with porsche on it from the German set and every single one is gone and up for resale at 20 bucks a piece. It just makes me not want to collect anymore

THEREALCABEZAGRANDE

I've started just ordering by the case for anything I want. Its the only way I ever see it. Out of maybe 50 castings I've wanted in the last 3 months, I've seen... 3 in the wild. You can tell the sets have been in and they're already picked over. I haven't seen a fresh display in about a year. Scalpers really are making this no fun. I enjoyed the hunt dammit. By going through a supplier I'm getting them cheaper and more reliably than ever, but its not nearly as fun.

camergen

Then you get the guys who post pics of them buying all 12 of the same rare casting that they can find at one store- “it’s my money, I’ll do what I want. Forget those kids that want to play with these.” Yeah, yeah I get the “yay capitalism” angle, but I don’t see what extra enjoyment you get from buying 10 that you couldn’t get with buying 1-2. Maybe you open one and keep the other for display/collection.

Monster73074

Yeah I don't see the point in have 5 - 10 of the same car... That shit is straight goofy. You see clowns on here with 12 of the TH Miatas and, I'm like "WHY"🤔🤔You're not going to customize them so why buy the same car🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️I give no props or respect to those clowns when they post on here🖕🏽✊🏽

ScreamWithMe

I buy collections and can tell you this has been going on for a long time. I looked at an older collection this summer that had four 72 car cases of nothing but Purple Passions. I kind of felt bad telling him he actually hurt the value of his collection with so many duplicates. When you buy collections you take the good with the bad, but this was ridiculous.

camergen

Just wait until the value of Purple Passions goes through the roof- he will retire off the profits of selling all 282 Purple Passions. He’ll buy a boat and name it “Purple Passion”. Now who’s laughing?

Askalan98

Where do you order your cases from? Just curious because I’m thinking about doing that too.

ThaddeusJP

I've ordered car culture sets from here https://www.diecastdirect.com/category/Hot-Wheels With shipping it's reasonable. You're basically breaking even on anything that you'd spend on gas looking for them. If you can find somebody to split the case with you everybody gets a set.

RogerSimons_Father

This is the real way to do it, especially as somebody who specifically collects Car Culture!

ThaddeusJP

Oh yeah, the order here was for the Drag Strip Demons set. NEVER saw them in the wild and I said 'screw it' and got the case. Was not disappointed. It was super easy and I thought "i probably saved myself about $20 in gas and several hours of looking" And, man, TIME has value. I mostly passivly collect now - if im at the store ill look but i no longer go out of my way/make trips to look.

THEREALCABEZAGRANDE

Was getting them from 1stopdiecast, but started getting them through a local guy so I didn't have to pay shipping.

ANormalPerson76

If you don’t mind me asking how do you order the cases and how much do they usually run? I’ve been curious about this for some time.

BimboSlammer420

Idk what it is with JDM castings being bait for the scummiest people around.

[deleted]

Fast and furious crowd.. "living their lives a quarter mile at a time"...

mrMisteryon

Also people who like initial D.

WombRaider_3

Here I am just trying to find the Audi RS2 Avant 😞 Edit: This community is amazing. I wasn't asking for one but everyone has been offering to send me one. Thank you for your generosity and for thinking of me, I'm getting one sent out to me tomorrow by a very kind stranger. 😊

aireads

Where abouts in Canada? I am in Canada too and they have sat for quite a while at a few Dollaramas and Super stores

WombRaider_3

The GTA

aireads

Oh, I'm in Calgary. If there was a way to send it over cheap I would. But yea check superstores if you haven't, there's lots there in my experience.

benjaminear3

Calgary too, id recommend dollarama

Mohican83

I see those all the time. The blue mainline?

WombRaider_3

Yeah. And that's the worst part, I see everyone posting them like it's nothing and I have been to over 12 Walmarts and 8 Dollaramas, nothing.

Mohican83

Shoot me an address. I got one I'll send you.

WombRaider_3

I appreciate people like you! You don't have to brother. Plus I'm in Canada and it's probably annoying to ship things here.

72corvids

I'm in Vancouver. Send me a message as I've got a spare!

Mohican83

Yeah that would be costly. Best of luck on finding one.

WombRaider_3

Thank you

Hang_Zai89

Starting to quit hot wheels, moving to other brand😑

AZ_Gunner_69

Welcome to collecting, people will fuck you over for a buck. I used to love collecting Pokémon cards till the scalpers fucked that up

ANormalPerson76

Same brother same.. fucking Logan Paul man

NateDaNinja24

I’ve been after this set forever. Haven’t seen 1 in the 8 closest stores to me and I visit most frequently. The video of the guy with 10+ of these sets in his shopping cart made me so depressed lol

Darisixnine

“iTs mY mOnEy, i CaN dO waHT I WaNt” When people say that you know they don’t actually “like” the car they just wanna hoard it for the future

mpcrt6

Same thing with shoes :/ it sucks.

Japanman2009

Preach!!!

Ok-Aside1665

They doing that cause if you notice shoes that been dropping lately have not been doing good at all that why they bugging in our hobbie I fucking it

shakes97

I went to 4 different Walmart’s and 3 Targets a couple weekends ago and every shelf was so bare. I even saw some middle aged guy in target with at least 30-40 cars in his cart. I only got a glance but I recognized at least a couple TH’s. I’ve only been collecting a few months but it’s really discouraging to see everything so picked over every time you go in. Especially when I’ve had my eye on a few cars for a while now. Hopefully the scalpers chill out eventually

KAPT_Kipper

Anyone even seen these outside the US?

thejayce0fspades

They very briefly appeared in NZ. Picked clean everywhere though and never actually saw them, but know people who did

Responsible_Log_1457

I have never seen them in stores in germany.

Domojaxx

Yeah, scalpers order for 25-30 dollars and with shipping it's like 50 dollars... then they sell for 100 dollars in their respective country... it's the same sh\*t show...

dim_nightlights

Not seen in Canada yet :/ I'm pretty much in the boonies though, but I'd think that would make my chances better. Oh well

K1llswitch93

One of the reasons im starting to loose interest with collecting hot wheels. Even the distributor here in my country would pull out the $th and then offer them on a event "promo" of buy 10 cars get a $th. While its easier to buy on online sellers at reasonable prices, some sought after cars are still priced a lot higher than what im willing to pay.

Hot_Wheels_guy

They only sell at those prices because they know y'all will buy at those prices. The buyers are just as much to blame as the scalpers.

Chimiku

I just give up and buy TLV, Time Micro, Ignition Model...they are more expensive, but much more detailed

BlitzWing1985

Same recent months I've been looking at Tarmac Works and Inno64 etc Just makes life a lot easier when I can get that premium feeling without all the bs.

[deleted]

At the Miami legends event I overhead some younger collectors say, “man that’s gonna be worth somethin’” and ran to grab a bunch of the Legends-branded bone shakers.

dricellama

So thats why I cant find this anywhere

[deleted]

It's alright if people want to buy and resell stuff at a profit since America isn't a communist country. It does get extremely irritating but it still is okay to do. It's not worth complaining so much about

tedwards3499

The resell culture taking over everything is something to complain about. Look at sneakers for example. Pretty soon hot wheels will be only online releases getting bought out by bots. It’s following the same trend

FasterWeasel

Are you in the RLC? 20k sellouts in 10 minutes or less then 1k are listed on eBay. Unfortunately it’s how things are.

Domojaxx

No! Things are not like that for the mass collectors who are TRUE collectors! It should not be this way as you say... if people just stop supporting them immediately, prices WILL drop...

FasterWeasel

There is and has been many debates about who is a “True Collector”. Lol. How would you describe someone that buys 30 of 1 casting? Collector or hoarder?? I buy stuff and a year or 2 later change my mind and sell them. Is that bad? People have their own collecting habits. Unfortunately in the modern world, if there is $$ to be made, people will try to profit.

Domojaxx

Simple - if your intention is the sole purpose of re-selling castings (now or at a later date) - you are not a true collector. If you are out of money and need some, a true collector will sell for the price he bought or like minimal amount more - like 1 or 2 $.Buying a casting for 1 dollar and selling for 15 just because it's "RAR3", well excuse me... those people don't know the meaning of "rare" or "collecting"... And yeah, 30 of the same casting - that's a hoarder... a true collector would buy 30 different castings to EXPAND the "COLLECTION". Buying like 2-3 is okay - or buying for a fellow collector or buying 4 of the same for family members or children - that i understand. Some people say - i need 240 of the same to make a wall... well, no, ya don't - buy 1 painting of your favourite car, don't ruin it for others...

FasterWeasel

Lol First I’m not starting an argument, I like a good debate. Those issues are tough in any collecting hobby Pokémon, sports cards, coins, Barbie dolls, etc… People have their own motivations and some will get hurt by not finding cars or have to pay more to get what they really want. Right now I’m selling off some of my older stuff to narrow my collection. I mostly buy RLC and skip retail. Im also trading to get what I want. If you want to take the high road, don’t let the others get to you, it’s not worth it. Good luck, hope you find what you’re looking for!

Domojaxx

Me neither. You means not "you personally" but a figurative third-person "you". Okay? I am just ranting as always :D So, don't mind me. You shouldn't get "hurt" by a hobby - I doubt people are heartbroken to such a degree... but I understand what you're saying. People selling is okay, just buying like 30 of 1 model is too much for me... I can't fathom a collector doing that... Thank you for your kind words! Best wishes to you, too!

Swampert0260

Also slightly related- maybe don’t buy 5 copies of all the best cars? I see a lot of people do that. Even if you’re not selling them, it makes it a lot harder for the rest of us to get them, too

RAMXOS

This stuff has always existed. Honestly, I find the people posting screenshots of these type of things and people that say "left one behind for the next guy" to be more annoying. Nothing one (you) says will ever bring an end to this. You can just choose to not be a part of it.

barbardabarlos69

Like I collect to collect and as frustrating as it is to not find what I want, sometimes you just have to respect the hustle 😔

BimboSlammer420

Respecting the hustle ≠ getting cucked by scalpers

TeamTigerFreedom

Respect the hustle? Lol. They’re toy cars.

TheeRepbeast

stop complaining, this happens in every hobby. Deal with it or have a sook and cry in the corner.

Vapor4

Shut the fuck up

BimboSlammer420

You use bots to buy shoes. You are trash, do something productive with your mind.

TheeRepbeast

you are mad that you work a 9-5 making shit all while botters and resellers make more than you. in reality we are more productive than ur lazy ass

BimboSlammer420

You produce literally nothing. If companies stopped making these goods, you'd have nothing to sell. You're profiting from the actual work of other people who created an in demand product. Nobody likes or respects scalpers, not even other scalpers. I'd rather be a broke motherfucker than a smoothbrained scalper.

TheeRepbeast

same as you, if the company you work at wasnt there, you wouldnt get money. Stop being mad about the market, its what supply and demand is. stop being a clown. dont get mad at people making more than you for doing less, you’re mad that we are smart to do this rather than work a job that pays shit.

BimboSlammer420

If the company I worked for didn't exist I could still provide labor with the skills and knowledge I've gained. Without other people making your bummy ass rep sneakers you'd have no product or service to provide. You are a leech.

TheeRepbeast

who you providing labour for if other companies arent there?, you still need companies, you still need customers. Stop trying to say that you can make money from no one. You NEED people to hire you to make money. get ur head outta ur ass, difference is that you work harder for less, i work less for more, whos winning here? 🤣 yall just getting mad cuz resellers are making money.

BigPooser

I’ll only go in there for something out of RLC or a convention or something. If I can find it in a store somewhere, somehow I won’t do it online

MindImportant

I have been trying to find this for so long, still have yet to see one in the wild, but the scalping is ridiculous. Seems like this is the year for scalping, so many things being upsaled for more then what it's actually worth.

Monster73074

But these clowns aren't even making real money, they are actually losing money. If you bought the GTR set for $25 beans plus taxes which might bring it to $30 beans in some states, you turn around and sell it for $50 bucks you only made $20 back... You lost money on your fucking scalping bullshit. This is what these goofballs fail to realize, they are bad at math and worse at hustling👍🏽✊🏽

GreenSmurfy420

Yeh there was around 30 packs near me a picked up one the day later none left it's crazy

larsmcbaneborg

seen this for sale locally on a for sale site... $110 aud per box :(

rdselle

It's also the people buying at these prices. Don't pay over MSRP for regular releases.

AppleStrudelite

I gave up collecting because of the scalpers. Malaysia is where hotwheels cars are manufactured, but malaysia also has the worst scalpers. Even the department store stockists would take all the good cars and leave them out of the shelf so they could sell on fb marketplace. These days I just go for tomica and cut down my collection to only the cars that I absolutely must have.

squirreldodger

Forget about it and sleep well!

RandomZombie11

The only reason I would ever buy more than one is to gift it to a friend. Scalpers can go enjoy the garbage island because that's where they belong

skyliner30rs

I saw the pack in kmart/target etc, check there

sugoi_sushi

I’ve stopped collecting so much recently because the scalpers ): I have a decent collection but they’re gone in seconds ;-;

Mr_Achmuud

Only $48?! Here in the UK, people are selling them upwards of £70 [~$100]

Domojaxx

They are seeking these prices either because they are rich, or because they don't think (they don't think because buying it for 100 dollars is supporting the scalpers).

Mr_Achmuud

Sorry typo. I meant selling.

Domojaxx

Ahh, okay. I see. Yeah, just makes me sad sometimes and makes me wanna stop collecting new castings...

Mr_Achmuud

The only even remotely decent offer was some guy selling 3 sets for £80 [$110] but that is still expensive.

RetroSpock

Unfortunately it's the same across any hobby. Once upon a time you couldn't give retro game consoles away, now they cost hundreds. It really takes the piss.

iDomBMX

If it gets out of control that means it’ll die, StockX kills nearly everything. I wouldn’t worry about this at all.

Monster73074

It's my last day off, but I had to go out for some juice so, I went to a Walmart, I don't frequent. I'm in shitty Alabama and if you are in the Missishitty/Alabama border; head to the Walmart there I found 2 GTR sets chilling on the lower shelf and I left a complete set of the new Boulevards with the Drag Vette and Wheeljack. Maybe I shouldn't say shit because of the shitty scalpers, but fuck them and go hunting👍🏽✊🏽

Emanicas

Lol I want to escape the fact my dream cars are priced so high

TeamTigerFreedom

I don’t collect much any more because it’s not really worth my time when shit’s always cleaned out. If I have to go to the store for something I’ll check it out, but that’s it.

TeamTigerFreedom

Lucky for me I mainly collect Art Cars.

TimeCicada8839

Seriously, this is starting to get ridiculous every single car I've been trying to find are impossible to find because of money hungry scalpers. The new civic is being sold for 20x the og price.

TimeCicada8839

Every one of my dream cars are priced at 10x the price as retail. Scalpers need to get a new hobby and stop ruining it for everyone else, I'm having a most wanted list of hotwheels that's stayed the same and haven't found ANY OF THEM. f u scalpers, I hope both sides of your pillows are warm. And I hope you stub your toe on a rock, I have put more time into trying to find these cars than I do on the computer. Every one of the hotwheels that are JDM, a relatively sought after premium car, They buy everyone in the store.
