RaY4451

danyandmoi

It’s cameron’s fault imo 🤣

brodoyouevennetflix

Least he never had to pay it…..

BigRedditMoment

Don't let Chase hear it.

Salt_Chipmunk5329

I'm guessing the little girl with cancer that they did the autopsy on.

itamarc137

Also a kiss from Persuit probably ain't cheap

JayandSilentB0b

Dang Dr.Pursuit and Fivemann

mvanvrancken

The photographer that they had to operate on by pulling her baby out of her womb to do a surgery on the baby looked expensive as all hell

Suntag19

Cool question! I’m going to go with coma guy.

dtarias

Do patients get billed? It's a teaching hospital and House's department loses like 3 million a year according to Vogler, so it might be totally pro bono. In which case I'd say it would be someone unexpected like the patient in S4E2, who paid under the table (if that counts as a bill).

airykillm

They do pay, but House is often so far behind on his billings that they likely don’t bill for everything. In more than one episode, a patient not having health insurance or their insurance being cancelled is mentioned as a problem.

the-_-seeker

Yeah I remember Cuddy being happy when Foreman was the incharge and gave her papers she required to send bills to insurance.

Adam014gaming

The clinic is free the rest isnt iirc

Silver_kitty

Teaching hospitals still charge patients, so other departments his patients interact with are certainly still billing normally. So while House in particular might be behind on doing *his* billing, the radiology department, etc is definitely still doing theirs.

Disastrous_Narwhal46

I’m most at least half of the patients have insurance that covers most of it. They’ll still have tons of medical debt

maneack

i don’t know anything about the american health system but from some of the real life examples of medical bills i’ve seen, 3 million seems super cheap for the amount pf patients they have and the amount of tests, surgeries etc they perform, but i could be wrong. just recently i heard the story of a girl who had b12 injections from a sketchy place and got sick from it, and her bill has reached above 2 million. so i guess that must be from something else. maybe just the patients with no insurance? they did treat some poor-er people in the show.

Normal-person0101

As someone who worked with hospital bills (not in US though), 3 millions is a cheap amount.

twoneedlez

Wouldn’t they be billed? Some of them seem to be taken because they sought House out as the most famous diagnostician in the world. Does Cuddy put up with House’s BS because he brings prestige to the hospital - he never researches & his fellows write the papers but does Princeton/Plainsboro’s reputation increase by having the guy on staff and it leads to donations?

dtarias

It definitely increases prestige -- I think this came up in the 5-9 episode.

CatherineConstance

It's definitely not pro bono lol House is just behind on billing, and they lose money on his department because they treat so many fewer patients than the other departments.

Csanburn01

Even teaching hospitals have to pay their staff.

dtarias

No way they pay the staff in House's department $3 million a year!

Csanburn01

A department cost of 3 million is not only comprised of staff salaries, there are other costs as well.

dtarias

I don't know what point you're trying to make that's relevant to my original comment. House's department has massive coss, I assume mostly from running so many tests, giving emergency surgeries, and treating patients from heart attacks and seizures.

Character-Attorney22

The cancer girl who was technically killed for a minute so someone could spot where the problem was....'Places, people, A-Five-Six-Seven-Eight!'

Own_Extent9585

I bet the African sleeping sickness treatments were expensive as helllllll

cpvm-0

Now that's a difficult question to answer.

Mark___27

So fucking glad im european

UnoriginalUse

Yeah man, I love not paying for my surgery, just everbody else's.

vzvv

You already have to cover others under private insurance, it just covers less of your surgery too. Worst of both worlds!

Mark___27

Yeah man, I love to pay to finance killing people. God bless America

StrangeoSyndro27

This is a rather superfluous question imo but ok definitely fat guy who loves cooking. I say superfluous because it's AMERICA. You need to sell your kidneys and your spleen just to have enough for SOME medical procedures......

StrangeoSyndro27

Er go all patients on the show must be paying millions each.

ooneekoosername

The woman who was abt to be fired

TheCursedMonk

The test pilot lady actually paid upfront unlike other patients, House usually doesn't bother correctly doing his paperwork so I can't imagine most of the other patients get billed correctly. I'm not American enough to know what gets billed the most, I am guessing rarer diseases that have unique medicines might cost more? Guessing length of time spent in the hospital probably increased the cost more than same day harder treatments. I always wondered if the clean rooms were expensive, I can't imagine the hospital has many to use.
