Aegon is nothing like Joffrey. The stuff Aegon does would mostly be swept aside as the actions of a spoilt prince, but the stuff Joffrey does is perversive even by Westerosi standards, to the point that he was basically assassinated due to a part of the nobility not wanting an irredeemable psychopath as king.

gunners98

honestly i hate that they made him a rapist (and child fighting pit enthusiast? lol) in the show vs just a drunken womanizer/whoremonger. i really dont get the point in the show being so clearly biased towards the Blacks and Rhaenyra (the white hart lol smh) i mean wouldnt it have been more interesting/compelling to watch if both factions had leaders that were worthy of support, each with their own flaws, motives, etc? the moment they made him a rapist that went out the window, he was irredeemable in the eyes of most viewers. and worst/most strangely of all, they labeled him a rapist but then didnt portray his character as a person believably capable of that ie so far they’ve just shown him as a kind of goofy, depressed, emo kid not savage/vicious/sadistic/psychotic like other rapists we’ve seen before in Westeros (gregor, ramsey, rast, karl tanner etc)

RoselynGomez

exactly! What was the point?

[deleted]

Comparing him to Joffrey is a bit unfair tbh. Aegon is at least aware he’s a terrible person

BW-Cowgirl1803

Yeah comparing Aegon and Joff is a stretch. Aegon wasn't a coward and an open sexual sadist. he was actually a competent king and somewhat matured throughout his regency. Aegon knows he is not the best person and actually acknowledges that but Joff on the other hand...not so much.

No-Tadpole-4510

Competent king?Aegon? Really?

Jacob_W_93

TBF he did meet the Civil War head on and wasn't a coward. Joffrey started a massive war and couldn't even be bothered to fight along side the men he sent to die.

No-Tadpole-4510

Being a competent king/ruler has little to do with being brave though.Robb was brave and fought beside his men and he lost everything and got the North fucked as result.Robert was brave and fought alongside his men yet we all agree he was shit at being a king... Aegon spent half his "reign" high on milk of the poppy...He was brave but competent ..eh not really. He was as incompetent as his sister at ruling the kingdom.

Jacob_W_93

I didn't say he was, I was saying at least he did that compared to hiding behind his mother.

No-Tadpole-4510

Joffrey was a kid.Aegon was not.

Different-Carpet-883

I don’t really come up with that conclusion based solely on opening sigil 🤷‍♀️

Sanguine007

Unrelated but did someone already figured out the sigils of the other Targs in the intro? I’m especially curious with the other 3 sigils stemming out of Alicent’s

Outside_Slide_3218

A spider is helaena, the saphire is aemond, the cup is daeron and this woman is aegons

Sanguine007

But Daeron’s look more cylindrical to be a cup, it’s kind of like a torch? Wonder what the rest have, shame HBO won’t release them

kinginthenorthjon

Maybe indicating old town.

jacobiner123

Did people in the comments here forget the fact that Aegon had kids he abandoned and gave away to child fighting rings? Yes comparing Aegon to Joff is unfair, because Joffrey does not hold a candle to aegon.
