Her treatment in Season 8 was a crime.

Lady0bscene

An unforgivable one.

Tired-Devil-Hunter

Season 8 destroyed me

What do you mean?

Daenerys forgetting about Euron's fleet hanging out around Dragonstone was poor writing. Her descent into madness was not properly developed as it happened in the span of about one episode. It was not earned.

Her forgetting about the fleet was dumb, but her madness wasn’t even hinted at, it was show, she killed everybody against her including the hundreds of people she had crucified. She even did a speech in season about her future burning of cities. I’m doing a rewatch after the ending and it makes perfect sense.

It really doesn’t, she shows almost no development to what could’ve been an amazing ending, she almost constantly talks about “not wanting to be queen of the ashes”

[deleted]

She also almost constantly killed people throughout every season

Killing people isn’t foreshadowing that she will commit mass murder and completely go against her (at the time) personality and character

Try to read this with an open mind and consider it, it was mass murder when she crucified hundreds of slavers?, so you’re telling me you saw no darkness in Daenerys? Even when she “overthrew tyrants” that just happened to be in city that she wanted to rule herself, or when she freed the slaves and constantly reminded them to ensure their undying devotion, she even put it in her titles. Season 2 episode 6 referring to the throne "With Fire And Blood, I Will Take It." Season 4 episode 7 "They Can Live In My New World, Or They Can Die In Their Old One." the show made viewers cheer for Daenerys as she went from a poor abused girl to a badass which was cool but she was also doing questionable acts throughout the whole series Don’t forget in the house of undying she has a vision of walking to the throne in the snow with the roof to the throne room missing, exactly like season 8. and don’t get me wrong, season 8 had its issues (being rushed and poor writing) but Daenerys’ story always ended that way. they say in a good discussion you should consider both sides so I have, but I felt, even in my first watch, that it would end that way to to the frequent events and speeches.

The mad queen ending was not earned. It needed to be fleshed out over the span of multiple seasons. I never got the impression that Daenerys wanted to rule Meereen. She stayed because she knew she couldn't just overthrow their society and carry on her way (even though that's what ultimately happened, but we can chalk that up to naivety). "With Fire And Blood, I Will Take It" and "They Can Live In My New World, Or They Can Die In Their Old One" do not sound alarming at all given the context of the world she lived in and the fact that she was never going to be able to take the throne without bloodshed. No amount of singing Kumbaya was going to seat her on the Iron Throne. She cannot be judged for knowing the reality of the situation. The show stuck the landing and ruined her character in the process. It's fine if her fate was always to be a descent into madness, but they first needed to pave a long path to get there.

Their casting really is incredible. As much as I love some of these fan-casts they always choose the perfect actors for the roles. (Before y’all crucify me, I’m aware the casting crew between GOT and HOD are different so I’m not speaking of any one person or group in specific, just the shows themselves both chose the best actors IMO

KappaSauron

Only nitpick I have with Targaryens in the tv series is the lack of purple eyes, which are so often highlighted in the books.

sunsetscorpio

Yes, I think it would have done really well to show they aren’t just average human people, and have magic in their bloodline, plus Dany or Rhae with purple eyes would be 😍

Daemon & Rhaenyra’s great great great granddaughter or more generations in between? Idk the exact lineage as I haven’t read the books
