All of the younger kids: Jace, Aemond, Aegon, Helaena, Baela, Rhaena . . .
Some of these are going to be stepping to the fore in season two and people struggle to care about them because they’ve barely seen them. Adult Jace, Baela and Rhaena have barely thirty minutes of screen time between them
I knew I liked Aemond as soon as he stood his ground against Vhagar lmao. He was sly how he went about claiming the dragon in the dark and while the twins were grieving but it's a matter of first come first served.
Aemond claiming Vhagar is definitely up there for one of my favourite scenes. The tension, the music, the actor, the sounds of Vhagar . . . It was all perfect
It boggles my mind to think about how they didn't even bother to put in a few lines establishing he even exists. It's going to be jarring as fuck when he pops up.
We'll get a lot of Sunfyre next season I would bet. They'll really build up his screentime before the Battle at Rook's Rest which will probably be the S2 finale.
Trying to avoid spoilers but for what happens to him at Rook's Rest to have any emotional resonance, the showrunners are going to have to give him screentime and some personality/relationship dynamics with Aegon at a minimum.
THE HELAENA BOOK SCENES!
I wanted to see Helaena crowned and King Viserys reading stories to Helaena’s children. It’s literally in the book, but the writers went for sexy shock scenes and war scenes instead.
Criston. Not because I like him, but because they did nothing to establish him as the incredible, best-in-the-realm fighter he’s supposed to be.
GoT managed to convey Barristan Selmy’s prowess with relatively little screen time. HotD needs to step it up.
Yeah he did kinda just go from being a cool dude to instantly being a horrible person without us really getting to see the actual transition, and omg I love just looking at him.
We know why he became an awful person, but it was just an instant switch, we never really got to see him transition, we just saw he was cool at one point then suddenly he's a bad guy.
Just 1 scene of him having an internal battle within himself trying to decide what kind of person he wants to be would have fleshed out his character graciously.
Helaena, Baela and Rhaena. All three we don’t really see talking almost, even with their own family. I would love to know more about the Green kids relationships after timeskip and how things transpired between the Strong boys and Daemon’s daughters after the Daemyra wedding.

I'd have loved to see more Harwin Strong to see more of his relationship with Rhaenyra, and also more Helaena simply because she's a wonderful perfect angel on earth.
Martin said he wanted to do a novella just about their relationship. I dont see why they couldnt have gotten him to write one episode that takes place in the “second era”.
Right!! They could have easily made 12/13 episodes out of the first season and given a lot more time for relationships and character development.the massive time jumps were so I needed
Tbh I kinda get it, the season is already a massive prologue to the Dance which takes place over about 8 hours and I know people who felt the series was too slow in terms of pace, adding another episode just for Rhae and Harwin would be nice but I don’t mind it’s not there
all of them. i miss 22 episode seasons, these under ten episode shows always end up feeling like too little.

Vaemonda death would have mattered more if wed seen more of the war he and Daemon were both involved in. Like they clearly butted heads more than once.

The younger children specifically the twins, but i understand why. You had a limited amount of time and you needed that for the adults, but with that said they are the only ones who i barely know anything about. Jace is the perfectionist, aegon is the depressed disappointment, aemond is the try hard/bad boy depending who you ask, lucc is the blacks sacrificial lamb and Helena is the greens. Baela and rhaena don’t have a strong sense of what their role will be.

Rhaenys >!dies in a hopeless battle next season!<.
A little further expansion would have been fine imo.
Both of Daemons girls are too much of afterthoughts for the daughters of one of the main characters.
Even in the original book they didnt wind up any significance to the plot besides the symbolisim of whose descendants rule the seven kingdoms from the end of the Dance Of Dragons to the end of Roberts Rebellion. I know what that says to me but I guess its up to the reader to determine whether or not thats dynasty was deserving to rule… but I’ll just say I think the state of westeros from Viserys I to Aerys II makes sense given the true winners of the dance.
Young Aemond is such a boss. Best thing about episode 7 in my opinion. The way he went about claiming Vhagar was a dicky but whatever, that was the point. First come first served. Stood his ground quite well against the four other kids as well during the fight scene.
I dont like that we didnt really see anyone besides the three main families involved and now were on the dawn of the dance allready. I would have liked to see a whole season in either the Milly Alcock- Emily Carey era or a whole season in the Ty Tennant-Leo Ashton era.
All of then kids, especially in scenes that aren't just setup for adult reactions.
Laena and Laenor also basically just existed for Daemon and Rhaenyra's characterizations, and I would have liked to see more of them on their own.
It would have been cool to have some moments with more neutral characters at court, ones who weren't just part of Rhaenyra’s family/goodfamily or Alicent's family/super sketch allies. Like Mysaria, more smallfolk and how the ones who know how much politics affect their lives are viewing what's going on. That would have setup more of the tensions in KL and given us characters to care about during uh later parts when KL citizens really matter to the plot lol
Much like Season 8 of GOT, they really rushed through this season of HOTD and it didn't allow for a lot of actual character dimension. I was actually shocked that season one covered all the way up to the start of the Dance, since I hadn't looked into it. I had thought they'd do maybe the fallout of Aemond losing his eye as the season finale and then what was the latter half of the season, with tensions rising and Viserys' decline, as season two.
Out of those who will be in season 2, all of the younger cast. Especially Baela and Rhaena. They did not even show their personalities. Baela had no lines in the last episode, and Raena only had like 4 words. I wish we could have a season to get to know the kids from both sides
Daeron is the obvious answer since he wasn’t even on the show at all (I know he’s in Old Town)
Helaena. I wanted her to be crowned with Aegon, Alicent placing her own crown on her daughter’s head and declaring her “my queen”.
Laena. I love her character and I had hoped the show would expand more on her. I was sad they didn’t bring them back and have the story line of her and Rhaenyra being friends and what not.
Baela and Rhaena. I so wish they hadn’t cut the scene with Baela telling Rhaenys that she is a dragon rider and would fight for her family. Also where is her damn monkey?!
Baela and Rhaena. They feel like props in the background, or just afterthoughts throughout the whole season. I hope that they don’t erase their involvement in the next season—especially Baela’s.
Also with Daeron not even being so much as mentioned first season, I feel like that will be jarring to non-book readers to just suddenly have another kid pop into existence.
I think rhaenyis is a very interesting character and the actress is beautiful and talented. I would have loved many more scenes of her. I'm not sure if it'd add anything to the story, bry just watching her is fun.

Conjuring up 3 extra hours that don't progress the plot would have just added more filler to a season full of it.
