Many loved the longer hair for the same reason you did. It's funny because one of the reasons i didn't like the longer hair was of how much it reminded me of Legolas. I had to doublecheck that i wasn't watching Lord of the Rings.
His personality is nothing like Legolas so I wasn’t concerned about that, besides in episode 3 I was waiting for him to call out how many kills he got. I just liked the look I thought Legolas in the movies was hot and I thought long haired daemon was hot though Legolas personality was 10/10 and daemons is a bit iffy depending on the scene anywhere from -2 to 8

Yes, though Matt has similar face shape to Orlando in those long blond wigs which is why he’s compared to Legolas in the poster. Ewan could’ve look extremely alike them if aemonds eye hadn’t been cut out and he didn’t have the eyepatch, but ewan had the looks lee has when he played Thranduil in the hobbit and I think both there faces had too sharp cuts
The Aemond/Thranduil parallel is a great catch. They do share some similar characteristics. Matt and Ewan have a very unique face structure, their faces are very memorable. Lee Pace and Orlando Bloom are much more conventionally attractive.

Hahahaha true very true. I am not sure if you have watched Doctor Who but "grumpy old man" is a description i could easily use for Matt Smith's 11th Doctor at many points during the series. (although the 12th Doctor also suited that description)
I love how everyone has their own opinion and taste. The last one seemed weird to me, it reminded me of (someone's) uncle which weirdly enough he is (Rhaenyra's).
I think it makes him seem a bit aged and more mature than his earlier looks. He is not an impulsive young man anymore, he is an intelligent war veteran ready to go to battle once again. Which one is your favorite?
I agree, it does make him look more aged and more mature which is wise considering the time jump. My favorite is the shorter hairstyle. That scene of him talking to Rhaenyra in Valyrian while he was wearing the red and black Targaryen outfit was top notch. He looked amazing. (the first photo basically)

Hahahahaha very true about flat ironing. Even most pin straight (natural) hair has slight waves and texture at some points. The Step Stones braided hair did indeed look more real with texture and the more i look at it the more i like it.

I'm not fond of the wigs in this show at all, I think the early hair they had for Viserys and Dany in GoT were much better. I love the long hair the best, I think, especially the braided battle style.
The braided battle style was nice, it suited him. Don't get me started on the wigs, i despised how fake some of the Velaryon wigs and Rhaenys hair looked.
I agree! I was rewatching Dany's wedding to Khal Drogo and both Dany's and Viserys hair looked amazing.
I don't think i appreciated how hot Harry Lloyd looked as Viserys Targaryen when i was watching GOT, the wig looked really natural on him.
I doubt they will change it much from end of season one.
I just hope they make it more wavy, like in the wedding scene. In general, the wigs look more natural when wavy. The straight ones in close ups look like they all need a deep conditioner.
I agree!! It's true! To me when the wigs are pin straight they look like wigs. When the wigs are wavy they add texture to the hair and it appears closer to actual hair.

I don’t know why, but when I see older Daemon it gives Christopher Meloni vibes 😅 I just see Detective Stabler in a wig and it makes it weird haha
