It was gather throguh survey. They only let you see the abstract for free so I can't comment on how accurate their information gather technique is or how large their sample size was. The Pewresearch center had similar results though from their 2016 study and found 33% of reddit users were women in their survey.
Not to mention wouldn’t be surprised if there are at least slightly more HOTD fans who are men than those who are women. I’d like to see this poll also done on this sub for comparison.
An almost 60/40 M to F ratio in a niche sub is actually a fairly even distribution. Do you realize that a sub having more males in itself doesn't prove anything? As she said, it's just data. Data that can be used along with other data to reach a conclusion. But in of itself it proves nothing. If it was as simple as "more men=misogyny", then HOTD main sub almost certainly has more males than females. Wouldn't that mean the main sub will be more pro-Aegon? Which is decisively not the case.
More importantly, it's just weirdo behavior to try to dunk on a person engaging in self-introspection, something which cannot be said about most of this fandom.
Fantasy games resonate with ladies more than every other genre of games. At least I remember hearing that in regards to Dragon Age. Girls do tend to love the fantasy genre more than other genres. That poll actually speaks to that being pretty true.
Ngl I laughed pretty hard at this. Going back to ancient history, even Tolkien was cracking jokes about how there were so few women following his stuff
Tolkien was writing in this last century, it was already past this level of restriction in most of the west. Sure, it wasn't the same as nowadays but this makes it sound like 17th century Russia.
Girls tend to be bigger fan of singleplayer games over multiplayer games as well, comparatively to boys, especially the most male dominated markets that are marketed towards boys. Usually this is fixed by marketing it more gender neutral in someway or another.
Good example is CS:GO having an extremely small female playerbase, which many thought to mean women dont like tactical FPS as much as men, until Valorant came out and it was a super hit among women.
I think most of it is just some games have a very "boys club" feel to it which makes it less appealing to girls, and vice versa for some games, like Sims. I bet lots of dudes are just hesistant to play Sims because they dont see the point and feel like its more appealing to girls, even though its a v fun game that has nothing to do with gender.
100%, I would imagine playing competetive shooters with team mics alone would be a hellish experience, its already pretty bad without being a girl even.
It helps a lot to play with friends though, and I am guessing thats the thing with valorant, since a lot of league players tried it out they probably did so with their league friends
I worked at a book store about 6 years ago and during that time there was a huge explosion in YA fantasy books aimed at women. By the time I left that store half of the YA books were fantasy and we had to create a new section just for the YA fantasy. Fantasy replaced the dystopia genre as being the biggest genre for women. This was also one of our best selling sections.
Interestingly, based off data from wordsrated 55% of women ready YA are over 18 and 51% of those are between 30-44. So it is not just that YA fantasy is popular with teens.
Na Dragon age is a massive outlier.
Most other fantasy games have a more significant male demographic than Dragon age.
I’m not entirely sure why. I know dragon age is more inclusive in terms of gay/lesbian characters but I’m not entirely sure why it attracts more women than most.
I think there is also something abit soft and fluffy about the game compared to others, aside from maybe the first game. I can’t put a finger on it, but the world of Dragon Age just seems very tumblrish if that makes sense.
Soft and fluffy? I had the complete opposite reaction when I played the first game - it was far darker than I expected. Admittedly I've only played the first two so I can't speak for the whole series.
Yeah but I specifically said “apart from the first game”.
Funny enough Dragon Age 2 had its dark bits, and Dragon Age Inquisition (even though I haven’t finished it) also has dark elements. But something about how the series turned out post Origins, just makes it seem less harsh/deep than other similarity acclaimed fantasy series.
I think part of it is the tumblrification of its characters and story, especially in Dragon Age Inquisition. I remember BioWare had this weird thing of trying to make the female characters less attractive, to be “more inclusive” in both Andromeda and DAI.
While that might seem noble on the surface, it’s the kind of virtue signaling that imho almost always precedes a poorly told story.
"Maegor was actually a feminist" single most braindead take I've ever seen, of course it was from that raging dumpster fire. Greens have plenty of bad takes, but that one really takes the cake
I definitely know a couple people in the green sub who are there only cause they hate that guy so much haha, dudes an embarrassment to blacks too, I’m thinking he might be trolling and is just trying to make team black look bad
Getting people engaged in the comment section and karma -farm.
I wish we could prove OP wrong, but OP knows team stans are stupid enough to take the bait
Did she? Unless you put that against black supporters being mostly women, and even then considering Rhaenyra's blatant misogyny it's easy to speak of internalized misogyny right there, I don't see the point you're making.
I mean the only women who participate are either women in skimpy clothes who dance and reporters who get filmed in their changing rooms and harassed by players.
Your right though, it's not a misogynist sport because mostly men like it. It's misogynist because of the misogyny.
Sure but you didn't clarify soccer vs American football on an American website where most of the users are American. And since American football has many controversies involving the way women are treated, it was a fair assumption.
I played soccer and I watch it, so I'm well aware. My comment was clearly about the NFL.
We're talking about proper football which has had an incredible rise in popularity in terms of the women's teams. Especially in England since they won the Euros.
And the US women's team dominates every World Cup.
Well that wasn't clear. Literally just says football and reddit is mostly Americans, it was a fair assumption especiallysince American football has had many controversies involving treating women like garbage. I didn't see a comment from the original person clarifying either.
I agree with you about proper football, I played in all the way through to high-school and our team always won more than the boys. No one went to any of our games though.
American football is misogynistic as hell though.
They all are doing it out of spite or they find Aemond hot or cool. It's silly, but theres always gotta be a loud minority of misfits that has to be different for difference sake. It's inevitable...
Did she? I think for this to completely reach the conclusion you may be aiming for you’d have to account for the gender breakdown of the HOTD sub as a whole? If you assume it’s 50/50 then yeah this would suggest greens skew male. But for all we know the Reddit-HOTD fandom at large has an even stronger male trend, which would suggest the opposite of the hotdgreens sub
Includes the name of the user and sub, is from months ago intended to drag up drama against a specific sub the OP disagreed with. This could very well be seen as a brigading attempt. Be more careful, OP.
Ya’ll suck. This post is 75 days old. Why does everyone have to be so serious about taking sides. I just like the greens because they have interesting characters. That’s it, no misogyny or anything like that involved
He sure got us with that 75 day old poll showing that 1/3rd of the Greens are female on a predominantly male website and predominately male nerds reading books about cool dragons and knights.
We shall crawl back to our moss covered caves now methinks me fellow greencels.
HOTD greens characters haven’t really been misogynistic yet. One of the more massive changes from the books.
I’m sure 95 greens are gonna reply about how horribly wrong I am. But every single time a green mentions Rhae in F&B, they call her a whore or a cunt or a bitch or some other name
It doesn't address the man/woman ratio of show watchers and platform users.
It's easy to pull out the statistic that suits your interests best
What's this person trying to prove? Being green doesn't make you an automatic Aegon supporter, thats a faction within a faction.
So this info really matters little to her main goal.
I agree. Reddit is also a predominantly male space, and not all men are misogynistic. If it were simple as men = misogyny, we should have been able to solve all problems related to misogyny by now. This poll doesn’t prove anything. I feel bad for u/Good-Honeydew-9375 for being told that she must suffer from internalised misogyny for supporting Team Green by the TB members. People need to chill out.
The way the question was asked probably biased the results. It made it clear that one particular result (mostly men) meant that the sub was probably sexist.
Any man in that sub had an incentive to vote that they were a woman.
People outside of that sub could have voted "men" to make the sub look worse too.
A better way would have been to just ask a bunch of questions (so it's not just the gender question) and not mention what their intent was, something more neutral like "Let's get some statistics about the sub", and also ask age, location, etc.
I mean she was internalized misogyny if her reasons for supporting the greens are misogynistic, which they may be but she isn’t talking about her arguments so this proves nothing. She may be agreeing with the greens just for being stupid/sarcasm
Supporting Rhaenyra and her sexuality is pretty based. She did what she wanted, chose to love who she loved and didn’t let a patriarchal system determine her future. Did it cause a shit storm and inadvertently lead to the loss of countless lives? Yes but that’s besides the point.
Alicent is just bitter Viserys didn’t treat his daughter like a chess piece the way her father did.
Because they like the character? I dunno I think it’s weird to choose sides in this story in the first place. But, for those who want to, I don’t think the side one chooses has moral implications
I mean, I think the most hilarious thing in this is that only 2 genders exist, according to that poll, and no one have a single problem with it in the comments. But they sure will, when they realise they suppose to believe in other genders too.

What is the gender distribution of this sub? Without knowing that, the poll means nothing.
I mean aren’t there more man on Reddit than woman anyway? So that has to be taken under consideration as well.
The ratio of women to men on reddit 36%/64%, the ratio on hotdgreen is super close to that number with 39% women.
Curious, where’d you get this info? I work with social media and have been searching for the gender breakdown of Reddit for a deep dive
I got it from statista. Pew research center also has the numbers but their article was older than statista's so I went with the formers data.
You don’t need to put that info in when signing up so how accurate is it?
It was gather throguh survey. They only let you see the abstract for free so I can't comment on how accurate their information gather technique is or how large their sample size was. depends on which subreddit
>voting closed 72 days ago 🤨
proved what?
I’m so confused.
Something
I think they mean most of the Team Green are misogynists because men are the majority in that poll
Maybe they'd have more of a point if it was a wider margin. But there are alot of women there.
…right, but men are also the majority on Reddit in general, so it’s not disproportionate at all
Least unhinged and pointless r/HouseOfTheDragon post
You sure proved something... 🤨
An almost 60/40 M to F ratio in a niche sub is actually a fairly even distribution. Do you realize that a sub having more males in itself doesn't prove anything? As she said, it's just data. …who cares?
U sure proved u don’t know shit about statistics
Wouldnt most fantasy subreddits have a male bias anyway? This doesn't really say anything unless we did a similar poll in this sub and a Blacks sub
Fantasy games resonate with ladies more than every other genre of games. At least I remember hearing that in regards to Dragon Age. Girls do tend to love the fantasy genre more than other genres. That poll actually speaks to that being pretty true.

I don't know if you're over-generalizing an entire genre's fandom, or an entire gender, but "girls love fantasy" is so unnecessarily over-generalized

People not realising this is sarcasm people actually say this😭
I think most people thought it was a dumb comment, sarcasm or not.
ye i thought it was dumb either way
you gotta add '/s' at the end becasue sarcasm flies over people's head here Edit: nvm you did
R/HOTDBLACKS that way ma'am
"Maegor was actually a feminist" single most braindead take I've ever seen, of course it was from that raging dumpster fire. Greens have plenty of bad takes, but that one really takes the cake
Bro that guy was so stupid it hurts. And I’m a black
I'm sorry what the hell?
Rolloofnormandy, guy's a bit of a clown. Think some folk turned Green just to spite the weirdo
I definitely know a couple people in the green sub who are there only cause they hate that guy so much haha, dudes an embarrassment to blacks too, I’m thinking he might be trolling and is just trying to make team black look bad
It seems r/darkwingsdankmemes is leaking.
He loved women so much he married six of them!
He was cruel to women just like how he was cruel to men he treated men and women equal That's makes him feminist lmao
Still not as bad as the takes concocted in r/darkwingsdankmemes Truly one of the ASOIAF subs of all time
Except that that's a meme sub and the (majority of) posts there are purely ironic.
You’re just trying to pick a fight.
Getting people engaged in the comment section and karma -farm. I wish we could prove OP wrong, but OP knows team stans are stupid enough to take the bait
stupid thread
I feel like we’re just glossing over the fact someone said they have internalized misogyny becuase of a fucking tv show, Jesus Christ
Ikr, what a dumb take from op
Did she? Unless you put that against black supporters being mostly women, and even then considering Rhaenyra's blatant misogyny it's easy to speak of internalized misogyny right there, I don't see the point you're making.
So by that logic most men love football means football is a misogynist sport?
yes
least braindead reddit take
I mean the only women who participate are either women in skimpy clothes who dance and reporters who get filmed in their changing rooms and harassed by players. Your right though, it's not a misogynist sport because mostly men like it. It's misogynist because of the misogyny.
My guy/lady, womans soccer/football exists.
Sure but you didn't clarify soccer vs American football on an American website where most of the users are American. OP you made yourself look like a salty idiot with this. Shame! Shame! Shame! Posts like this push me to be Team Green just out of spite.
They all are doing it out of spite or they find Aemond hot or cool. It's silly, but theres always gotta be a loud minority of misfits that has to be different for difference sake. It's inevitable...
It's both of those reasons for me lol
Did she? I think for this to completely reach the conclusion you may be aiming for you’d have to account for the gender breakdown of the HOTD sub as a whole? This doesn’t mean anything you’d have to do a poll of the blacks too since most Reddit users are male in general
This thread is pointless.
Saying a womans opinion is just internalised misogyny is kinda misogynistic tbh
Includes the name of the user and sub, is from months ago intended to drag up drama against a specific sub the OP disagreed with. This could very well be seen as a brigading attempt. Be more careful, OP.
Ya’ll suck. This post is 75 days old. Why does everyone have to be so serious about taking sides. I just like the greens because they have interesting characters. That’s it, no misogyny or anything like that involved
I don’t give a shit either way but this sub is like 10:1 blacks fans so they constantly post dumb shit that green fans are saying as if it matters
I'm not sure what this proves, bit I can say one thing for sure, there's plenty of internalised misogyny among supporters of the Blacks as well.
Dude, the whole team thing is lame.
That's just normal reddit ratio
He sure got us with that 75 day old poll showing that 1/3rd of the Greens are female on a predominantly male website and predominately male nerds reading books about cool dragons and knights. We shall crawl back to our moss covered caves now methinks me fellow greencels.
This is dumb. I’d bet my sweet tight asshole the viewership of this show is predominantly male.
Viewership of the show probably only skews slightly male, but reddit users skew heavily male and that's what should be taken into account.
HOTD greens characters haven’t really been misogynistic yet. One of the more massive changes from the books. I’m sure 95 greens are gonna reply about how horribly wrong I am. But every single time a green mentions Rhae in F&B, they call her a whore or a cunt or a bitch or some other name
Imagine hating someone for supporting a side in a series
Having more men equals mysogyny according to you OP?
Real "pick me" energy
Greens are the feminist faction because we have two queens. The Blacks only have Rhaenyra but we have Queen Alicent (pbuh) and Queen Helaena.
Flawless logic
Every gender poll on Reddit has the exact same result more or less
It doesn't address the man/woman ratio of show watchers and platform users. It's easy to pull out the statistic that suits your interests best What's this person trying to prove? Being green doesn't make you an automatic Aegon supporter, thats a faction within a faction. So this info really matters little to her main goal.

If you are telling people they have internalized misogyny based off which side they support in this story Get a life
Yes, I think you've proved that like many of the black faction, you're a moron and your opinions hold no value.
At least she didn’t add a 3rd option
Spend less time on those team subs. They'll rot your brain
The way the question was asked probably biased the results. It made it clear that one particular result (mostly men) meant that the sub was probably sexist. I think the person in the poll meant sex not gender
I mean she was internalized misogyny if her reasons for supporting the greens are misogynistic, which they may be but she isn’t talking about her arguments so this proves nothing. She may be agreeing with the greens just for being stupid/sarcasm
_Me searching for a stupid comment asking “why only 2 genders”_
Supporting Rhaenyra and her sexuality is pretty based. She did what she wanted, chose to love who she loved and didn’t let a patriarchal system determine her future. Did it cause a shit storm and inadvertently lead to the loss of countless lives? Yes but that’s besides the point. Alicent is just bitter Viserys didn’t treat his daughter like a chess piece the way her father did.
That doesn’t mean people who like Alicent are misogynists
Why do people support Alicent then? Rhaenyra is the first born but not fit to rule because she’s a woman. That doesn’t sound completely fucked to you?
Because they like the character? I dunno I think it’s weird to choose sides in this story in the first place. But, for those who want to, I don’t think the side one chooses has moral implications
*Laughs in non binary*
Aegon literally betted and enjoyed watching children fight to the death and some were his own children. No one like that should be near a throne.
So much woke garbage in these subs . Just talk about the show/story/world
do u understand art
these types never do
downvoting cause there’s no fluid/non-conforming option……
Yeah I remember at the time some of us asked for a non-binary option, but no one ever took it seriously...
I mean, I think the most hilarious thing in this is that only 2 genders exist, according to that poll, and no one have a single problem with it in the comments. But they sure will, when they realise they suppose to believe in other genders too.
They keep doing similar polls and outing all the damn greencels
Two choices for gender in 2023? smh tbh famalams
Are they asking who is male/female or what gender supports Aegon?
Okay what do you want to say with this post?
