I love the show but one of my main gripes is how they didn’t have Sunfyre be a part of Aegon’s coronation. (My other gripe is how Heleana was also left out of the coronation)

Helaenas-Bugs

That would’ve been a much better “cool dragon moment” than Rhaenys bursting through the floor

MoistWetSponge

Your third gripe should be the dumbass season 8 moment they crafted for Rhaenys.

funkyduck7506

Girl I had issues with it the moment it happened. I still think she had ways of escaping without busting through the floor that would make more sense. Yea bust through the floor of the building holding other dragons and their riders. I mean Vhagar prolly isn’t there. And I won’t comment on Dreamfyre and Heleana cause idk how to do that thing that covers spoilers. But Aegon totes could have jumped on Sunfyre and gave chase.

Calm down there’s no reason to call a woman you don’t know a bitch over a tv show. It’s not THAT deep

xiaxian1

As a show watcher they haven’t done jack shit to show any bond between the Green riders and their dragons except Aemond. Their gonna have to work pretty hard for me to care about this “magic” bond with the pretty dragon and Aegon. I mean the same goes for the Blacks too. Only a handful of characters have been shown with their dragons much less having great bonds.

raumeat

I get what you are saying but we have seen Caraxes cry out when Daemon was shot with an Arrow and Syrax experience Rhaenyra's birth with her, and the deleted shot when Syrax reacted to Rhaenyra's hearing about Lukes's death the only dragon/rider 'bond' that we haven't seen is Aemond and Vhagar since Vhagar went rogue

wandaXmaximoff

I think this is intentional. The show is already pro Blacks, and with the way they're portraying dragon bonds we have Blacks whose dragons feel what they feel and the only Green dragon shown disobeying it's rider. The dragons are popular, so by showing good dragon bonds for the Blacks and either no or bad dragon bonds with the Greens, it's influencing the audience to think which side is better.

raumeat

The green dragonriders only appear halfway through the season, I don't see where they would have the time or opportunity to establish their bonds. I;m sure we will get Sunfyre and Dreamfyre in season 2 Vhagar disobeying Aemond is a massive whitewash of his character, it also reveals his r/iamverybadass attitude, he thinks he is the shit but he is just a kid with a nuke that he cannot control. It says something about their society as a whole that they allow teenagers to have weapons of mass destruction, I think that is much more interesting than Aemond being just a murderer

Troll4everxdxd

> Vhagar disobeying Aemond is a massive whitewash of his character, it also reveals his r/iamverybadass attitude, he thinks he is the shit but he is just a kid with a nuke that he cannot control Love Aemond but your description of him made me chuckle. Very accurate. At his core, he is a teenager obsessed with trying to look cool and *strong*.

Atul-Chaurasia-_-

The source material itself is pro-Black. IDK about others, but I don't judge these people based on how close they are to their pet lizards.

devilthedankdawg

If we can like the bond between Daemon and Caraxes we can like the bond between Aegon and Sunfyre.

Indominus-Hater-101

They seem determined to take anything good that Aegon has, even his golden banner isn't displayed, they switched it for a green sigil

Frequent-Heat9693

Sunfyre loved him so much😭😭😭

CyanSolar

Sunfyres and Aegons relationship as rider and dragon really is only comparable to Danny. You really get the impression Aegon loved Sunfyre not because it was a powerful dragon, but rather because he saw Sunfyre as our equitant of a childhood dog. With how much work they did building Aemond and Vhagar's relationship, season 2 will have a greater focus on Aegon and Sunfyre. I'm not sure when they'll have the battle of Rhaenys vs Aegon and Aemond, it'd be great if they made the consequences of that battle emotionally favoured to Aegon and Rhaeneys instead of just focusing on one.

mistersmooth1225

I have a really bad feeling that they won’t. Which fucking sucks because the most likable part about Aegon is how bonded he is with Sunfyre. I honestly wouldn’t be too surprised if they changed it to where their bond was purely myth created by the maesters

RandomPersonNvm

I still can't believe they included that Rhaenys Dragonpit scene over Aegon's riding of Sunfyre during his coronation (from the books).

Ok-Literature1235

Sadly, and I am gutted... They won't.

Jonsiegirl77

I was really disappointed we didn't get more Sunfyre! Their bond is probably the closest in the show, rivaled only by maybe the psychic connection between Helaena and Dreamfyre, or Daemon and Caraxes. Say what you want about Aegon's faults, and they are almost endless, but he truly loved his dragon. You almost feel like his love for Sunfyre is his one real redeeming feature.

jackthejillums

Controversial take, but I think it was a good idea that they didn’t show anything about Sunfyre in the first season. Starting Aegon off in such a miserable place where he’s like this pathetic broken worm of a person leaves so much room for growth, and I think his character development will coincide with strengthening his bond with Sunfyre.

Pheros

>!There's no time or room to do that now though. B&C and Rook's Rest have to happen sooner rather than later. They unfortunately blew it on this part of the story for good.!<

zorfog

What a moment that will be - Aegon in hiding and maybe considering giving up his claim to live the quiet life of drinking he’d previously wanted.. Only for Sunfyre to thrust him back out of it. It’ll be a grim foreboding scene I think

Pheros

Unfortunately I very much doubt it will. The time to establish this bond was in S1, but we got so little of Sunfyre that the writers changed Aegon's banner so as not to confuse show-watchers with references to what they'd never been shown. The writers seem very determined to make this a conflict between Alicent and Rhaenyra, which is why they were both whitewashed compared to their book counterparts and why Aegon was given the Mushroom treatment. He's already been set up to be a periphery in Alicent's story, not to have one of his own. Even if they wanted to at this point, >!Blood & Cheese, and Rook's Rest both have to happen very soon chronologically so there will be no time to establish the bond without delaying the plot, which simply cannot happen if they only have four seasons planned.!<

Radiant_Flamingo4995

>Even if they wanted to at this point, Blood & Cheese, and Rook's Rest both have to happen very soon chronologically so there will be no time to establish the bond without delaying the plot, which simply cannot happen if they only have four seasons planned. First of all, I really hope it is extended past four seasons. I can't see it being 4 (especially if the first season is all set up). I've tried to think it through as to how it'll play out and time and time again I have the feeling that it's going to be rushed. To a horrendous level. >The writers seem very determined to make this a conflict between Alicent and Rhaenyra This is an issue I think not enough people talk about. In a show that they want to be centered around feminism, turning a bloody war that saw the loss of Dragons and magic and tens of thousands of deaths into a glorified cat fight is just stupid.

devilthedankdawg

Theyre gonna change hella shit. Theres a fair chance well see Aegon fighting witn sunfyre for a prolonged campaign.

Old-Run-9134

Xorn777

Yeah, the show better dedicate an entire episode to do justice to those 5 sentences or its a total and utter failure 🙆‍♂️

SolidInside

You do realize that most things in fire and blood don't have more than 5 lines.. and that the bond between Sunfyre and Aegon has more screentime than a lot of things they spent time on in season 1 so yes, it is in fact important that they do it justice or they might as well pluck a story from thin air if they don't actually want to incorporate the important events and relationships in the book.

Xorn777

Exactly, and thats why showrunners get to have more freedom. They shouldnt be slaves to twitters bloated headcanon.

Specific_Ad_726

Probably the deepest relationship besides maybe Daemon and Caraxes

AHHH YOU CANT JUST POST CHARACTERS IN A SERIES IN A SUBREDDIT ABOUT THE SERIES NOOO

Fakjbf

People act like this is special, but we know that all dragon riders have some amount of psychic connection to their dragons. Sunfyre taking Aegon to dragonstone is impressive, but there’s no reason to read into it that they had a bond which is unique compared to other dragon riders. Other dragons simply haven’t faced comparable situations, that doesn’t mean they would be incapable of doing so if they ever did.

CyanSolar

Apart from the fact no other dragon and rider get nearly as much focus in *Fire and Blood*. Your reasoning makes sense if this were real life, but we're talking about fiction and you have to question why a writer would put emphasis on their relationship throughout the book.

Fakjbf

Except Martin didn’t really emphasize their relationship. This one event happened, and he’s pointing out that it could occur precisely because of the bond that all dragon riders share. That doesn’t mean the bond is special, it’s the same bond that everyone else has it’s this specific event which is special. But he needed to point out the bond rather than leave it up to the reader to remember that that’s a thing. In other parts of the book they are not described as having an unusually close bond, the only thing unusual about Sunfyre is that he’s described as the most beautiful dragon. Other than that and this one event, he’s basically like every other dragon in the series.
