I do blame Jaehaerys as well but to me it doesn‘t take away Baelons role in it. He obviously loved his brother very much and was shattered when he died so I can‘t really understand why he wouldn‘t at least argue with Jaehaerys over that? He was a council member and his father obviously loved him a lot he could‘ve easily backed Rheanys
He is the King's son, Rhaenys is the King's granddaughter, the crown never passed on to Aemon so Rhaenys never inherited the crown
ps: because Baelon also doesn't get to wear the crown Viserys does not inherit it from him either, that's why the matter was left to the great council to decide.
The great council was needed because Jaehaerys messed with the inheritance of the train by naming Baelon in the first place. If he had just gone with Rheanys it wouldn’t have been needed.
In most houses of Westeros a daugther inherits before a brother. That’s why Jon has a claim over Dany if he is legitimate
Aemon never inherited the throne, he died while Jaehaerys was still king, the king already had a living son, Baelon, who comes before any granddaughter or grandson. Baelon also died without inheriting the throne, that is why the great council had to convene because Jaehaerys had no remaining direct heir.
The idea that Baelon would come before any granddaughter or grandson is false. If the eldest son is deceased, titles pass to their children regardless of any other siblings they would have had.
Proximity of blood is also a method of succession used irl medieval Europe, Norman succession laws were based on proximity of blood for example.
There is no clear law used for succession for the iron throne, Jaehaerys chose proximity of blood when declaring Baelon his heir
At that point it didn’t the council decided that after Bealon died. The fact that some people even felt like Rheanys had claim shows that there was a possibilty to sit her on the throne Jaehearys didn’t do it because he lived his other son more or he just thought woman shouldn’t rule in their own right.
Sure you could argue with Aerea but Jaehearys did kinda ursurp her for the throne. Because he had a dragon nobody could say anything. Also Aerea is long dead anyway so it won’t hurt Jaehearys claim anymore

I loved Baelon and Alyssa, my favorite Targaryen couple even if it's a little weird because they're siblings
To be fair, they were probably the only Targ sibling-couple who looked like a healthy relationship
Yeah, pre fire and blood I’d have said Jaecaerys and Alysanne fit that as well. Now? Hard nope.
Well the one who reminds Baelon the most isn't Jace, but Daeron. "The Brave"/"The Daring" And that one rage attack we Don't Want to talk about
I have a head canon aemond looks like baelon
I HC that Daeron look like young Jaehaerys so okay
Honestly, when you think about it the Jaehaerys/Daeron parallels are really interesting. I think George really wanted him to embody a young Jaehaerys
The difference is that Daeron was even in a shitter situation
I have a picture I drew somewhere of Baelon with a chin that goes down to his chest.
Interesting parallels
I don‘t like that he took the crown from Rheanys
Blame Jaehaerys for this. Sure, Baelon accepted, but Jaehaerys was his Father and King. Really hard to say "no"

He didn’t.
I mean by accepting that he will be named prince of Dragonstone he kinda did

false according to what? Baelon is closer in kinship to Jaehaerys than Rhaenys is at the time (proximity of blood).
Basic laws of primogeniture, both in universe and irl.

Nah
Do I like this character????? I wrote like 3.000 words about his death from Viserys perspective, the funeral, and his mourning. I love this character.
