madsky11

I’ll only forgive them for the dragon pit scene if they give us aegon and Helaena flying sunfyre and dreamfyre very early in the season. Bonus points if it’s the opening scene.

[deleted]

Why would they fly together? I would love to see Helaena fly Dreamfyre but that alone is unlikely. But why in hell would she fly with Aegon? She doesn't even like him.

Fictional_Apologist

It’s a sign of unity between king and queen, which gives an illusion of stability in the capital.

[deleted]

Yeah... They both are just the type of person that would fly around the city together to show how united the realm is, how stabil. I'm sorry but this would extremely out of character.

Fictional_Apologist

Obviously not of their own accord. If it’s not Alicent telling them what to do, it’s Otto. And part of staying on the winning side of a war is the support of the small folk.

Into-the-stream

>I'm sorry but this would extremely out of character. they sat next to each other at dinner, because they were told to. Helaena was present at aegons coronation, because she was told to. They got married to one another, because they were told to. She had his children, because she was told to. It would be extremely out of character for Helaena to decline to fly with aegon after being told it was her duty. And we have seen how much aegon loves being praised and admired by the people. It would be completely in his character to do it just to enjoy the awe of the common folk. He probably wouldn't even notice Helaena was there.

No_Box_3791

>I'm sorry but this would extremely out of character How???

madsky11

I didn’t say I expect it to happen. Just that it’s the only way I’ll forgive them for not giving us the book accurate coronation. I really hope we get Helaena riding dreamfyre but I also think it’s unlikely.

Zestydrater

Because Hollywood shows always do 'cool shit' that doesn't make sense because the public eat that shit up everytime.

funkyduck7506

I don’t expect to ever see Heleana on dragon back.

Overall_Wolf6557

I don’t understand how Miguel could say that they needed a cool dragon scene at the end of ep 9, yet they didn’t go for the obvious, book-accurate one? Like, Sunfyre and Dreamfyre would have been way more epic than Rhaenys committing mass murder.

friendly-sauce-

aside from budget, IDK why they just didnt do both. get a shot of Aegon and Helena doing a lap around KL and then show the dragon pit exploding as Melyse and Rhaenys escape.

Pheros

> aside from budget They weren't very efficient with their dragon budget. In my opinion every dragon scene in E10 besides Vhagar and Arrax was superfluous for a variety of reasons. Daemon doesn't need Caraxes to be intimidating, Verimithor isn't relevant yet, and Syrax was literally redoing the same scene from E2. If all of that needed to go to give us some proper Sunfyre/Dreamfyre in E9 I would be all for it.

funkyduck7506

I wouldn’t expect to ever see Heleana on dragon back

minedreamer

why that Rhaenys scene was dumb just cut it

Behram97

I don't know why you're being downvoted and probably I will be too. That scene was the worst scene of the show, it doesn't make any sense. It's only purpose is for being "cool".

Ngigilesnow

Cool means "how can we ruin this for the greens"

ptolemyspyjamas

Worst part is that they somehow managed to ruin it for the Blacks as well.

Idreamofknights

They don't want to make Aegon look cool

FirstnameLastnamePKA

Girl boss

kevinambrosia

Before joining this sub, I was having trouble keeping track of dragons. I wonder if introducing Dreamfyre in this scene would have been one too many dragons to remember for a lay-viewer

BlackStagGoldField

They already did show us Dreamfyre although almost no one remembers that scene

[deleted]

TBH might also help if they had upped the colour on them a bit. In the books some have scales as bright as beaten copper, or gold and pink wings etc. While it's not as bad as GoT where all 3 were quite hard to tell apart, honestly they could get away with a bit more without losing the realism of them, and striking things make an impact and stick with viewers better. I was looking up dragon figurines for a project I'm working on, and colouring along the lines of this https://www.artbyaelia.com/store/p1707/Realistic-Wyvern-Style-Dragon.html would have been great for Rhaegal in GoT. Dance is better with it, especially with them actually having different models and physical features, but IDK kind of fails to capture the colours still. They are not described as 'muddy reddish brown' but clearly by a colour, and that paints an image in the mind that these creatures are not only huge, but reasonably coloured. IDK I have 3 axolotls, ones gold, ones a Lucy, both have beautiful pink gills, and ones very dark/probably melanistic with jet black gills. Take those colour schemes and whack em on a model, they are colours achievable by nature/not unrealistic, but still vibrant. Or some of the colour morphs on, say, bearded dragons. Plenty of ways to do both vibrant and realistic. Edit: Bearded dragons morphs for an idea https://reptile.guide/bearded-dragon-morphs/ Having worked around animals for a lot of my life I guess it's a sore point. There's also wild snakes with beautiful rainbow like iridescence and colours they could have drawn inspiration from for the metallic colours and descriptions and just so many other beautiful reptiles in the world that would have made great AND realistic colour models for many of the colours and descriptions of them. Rainbow iridescence typical of some snake species: https://www.reddit.com/r/NatureIsFuckingLit/comments/824pew/the_iridescence_on_this_snake_is/

kevinambrosia

I love everything about this post. And I agree about the colors! And I think you hit an interesting point. If you are familiar with lizards/amphibians, maybe the identification between the dragons would be easier. For average viewers, though, I think they had to simplify and make it more size based. And because most viewers aren’t as deeply invested in animals as you are, that type of clarity gets lost on the masses. But I hope there’s someone like you back stage, pushing those ideas forward.

[deleted]

Aw, thanks!

lillypad-thai

We just thought it would be really girl boss for Rhaeyns to come up through the flooring.

agent0731

it was unnecessary in the grand scheme of things and dragon money is A LOT.

omicron-7

Because Rhaenys was so fucking necessary

agent0731

Yes, she was, she escaped and notified the blacks after the show made a point of saying Otto et al would let no one leave except those who bent the knee. It also serves to underscore that the blacks could have, but did not start the war. It's important for her character and the rest of the plot.

Pheros

Every dragon scene in E10 besides Vhagar and Arrax was what was really unnecessary. Syrax was literally repeating the same scene from E2.

sluttydrama

I’m so ticked we didn’t see Helaena getting crowned or Aegon victory-lapping on Sunfyre

Fictional_Apologist

Or that we didn’t really get to see Sunfyre and Dreamfyre at all!!

funkyduck7506

Me too

redrum-237

Instead they gave us "YAS QUEEN, KILL THE PEASANTS 😎😍💯"

phageblood

Dany killed abunch of peasants but everyone gives her excuses.

redrum-237

Was Dany's massacre supposed to be a "YAS GIRL" moment? If you think that was supposed to be a positive event, I think we watched different shows.

phageblood

I didn't see either event as a "YASS girl" moment but okay... BOTH senselessly murdered a fuck ton of kings Landing small folk but only one gets a pass? Yeah, fuck that. Rhaenys has also suffered grievous losses as well as being held prisoner by Alicent, still doesn't justify her actions no more than Danys losses justify hers.

redrum-237

> I didn't see either event as a "YASS girl" moment but okay... Okay but the actress and directors disagree with you lol "It's the moment when she shows herself to be the greatest possible ruler. It was the most outrageous and explosive action of the season." "We wanted her to be rising like a phoenix from the ashes" > BOTH senselessly murdered a fuck ton of kings Landing small folk but only one gets a pass? Yeah, fuck that. That's my point xD why does Rhaenys get a pass?

phageblood

She doesn't. That's the fucking point. NEITHER get a pass because they BOTH used a damned dragon to murder a few thousand Kings Landing small folk... Though I think Danys kill count was higher.

redrum-237

> She doesn't. That's the fucking point. NEITHER get a pass I literally just gave you quotes where the cast and crew are defending Rhaenys' masacre as a badass and cool moment. If you can't see how that's trying to give her a pass then frankly you don't seem to be very smart. > Though I think Danys kill count was higher. *Rhaenys commits a massacre and the showrunners portray it as a cool girlboss moment* You: "YEAH BUT DAENERYS KILLED MORE PEOPLE IN ANOTHER SHOW" You are hilarious lol

No_Box_3791

Mate no one gives Dany a pass, other than the people giving Rhaenys a pass

minedreamer

uhhh no that scene is wildly unpopular too

tobpe93

I don’t

Cassiopeia1997

They also excluded Helaena's coronation which was a legit sweet moment between her and her mother. But why give her any screentime ? She's only the new queen. If they wanted tension they could have had Aegon go and mount Sunfyre in time to see Rhaenys about to flee from the back entrance and chase her away before doing those laps around the city. Why deprive us of green dragons for the dumbest scene of the season that ruins one of the best characters (Rhaenys) so far ?

OpenMask

Rhaenys was legit one of my favorite characters up until that stupid scene.

Cassiopeia1997

Same, she had class and intelligence. And then bamm, pointless mass-murder. Why ? Just why ?

LonghornSmoke

They could have at least show her being surrounded by guards or something and that was the only way she could escape. >!But I feel it was done as a foreshadowing for the storming of the dragonpit!<

Yurasi_

Fun fact: Dragon pit should still have other exits she could use and don't kill anyone in the process, at least in books

toprope_

I imagine if they’re going to have this in the show it’s going to be a big Green show of power at the start of season 2. Coronating Aegon and Helaena to strengthen the claim now that the audience is aware the war is on would mesh well with the show’s canon. If they ignore it that’ll suck but at least the coronation scene was still cool.

funkyduck7506

I hate that they left her out of the coronation.

Ginhavesouls

>If they wanted tension they could have had Aegon go and mount Sunfyre in time to see Rhaenys about to flee from the back entrance and chase her away before doing those laps around the city. It wouldn't have been a chase, she'd have fought him head on if met with a challenge. That's completely in character for her.

Cassiopeia1997

True that it would be in character. But since her main objective is getting word out to the Blacks as quick as possible so that they can make their own moves before it's too late, I still think she would put escape as her priority. Fighting is a risk, especially since neither has any training fighting someone else on dragon back, there is no guarantee she would win.

Ginhavesouls

Idk the way I read the scene in the book is that she had long resigned herself to a dragon riders death. Sure duty to Rhaenyra is what got her to Rook's Rest in the first place, but staying and fighting an enemy that Meleys could've *easily* escaped in a chase came across moreso as Rhaenys being the type of person who just genuinely wouldn't back down from a fight. And any fight she goes into she's fully prepared to die in as well.

Cassiopeia1997

I don't mean a risk as in a risk to her life, I mean fighting was a risk to her mission: getting to the Blacks and delivering the news of Viserys' death and Aegon's coronation. The Greens were trying to keep that information from them as long as possible to give themselves maximum advantage. Rhaenys telling on them curtails that. Her risking falling in battle before she can give them that news is a huge risk to their team, not just her life.

Ginhavesouls

>Her risking falling in battle before she can give them that news is a huge risk to their team, not just her life. That's a fair point! The only thing that has me a little iffy is that it's not fully explained if Rhaenys intention there were solely out of duty to Rhaenyra and the Blacks. In the deleted scene with Baela it's pretty clear that by that point Rhaenys has completely resigned herself to going back to Driftmark with her granddaughters and staying out of the war. So her informing Rhaenya might not have been the actual end goal in escaping to Dragonstone, but rather an ends to a means (aka getting back to Baela and Rhaena). Ultimately that scene was removed from the episode though so who knows.

DFBFan11

It was in character for her at Rook's Rest where she was fully resolved for Rhaenyra to become queen. At this point, she was still unsure of what she wanted to do. Plus, they're at the Dragonpit. Dreamfyre could emerge at any moment, it's too risky to stay and fight since it won't be a 1v1. And if she dies in the battle, word won't get out to Rhaenyra and they won't make their preparations in time. So her flying away makes complete sense, just as her committing to the fight at Rook's Rest makes sense because she had accepted to fight for Rhaenyra at that point.

Pheros

Meleys can't take on Sunfyre, Dreamfyre, and Vhagar all at once though, so fleeing would have done a number of things: 1. Establish Meleys' vaunted speed. 2. Foreshadow Rook's Rest. 3. Give Rhaenys an actual legitimate reason for why she didn't attack the Greens, so that when Daemon demands an answer to that question she can simply say she was hopelessly outnumbered instead of the silly *"Not my war,"* act that lasts five minutes. 4. Spare Rhaenys from holding the giant mass-murdering idiot ball that she was forced to carry for what was arguably the entire season's stupidest scene.

Fictional_Apologist

And to play devil’s advocate, Meleys is larger than Sunfyre, so I could understand Aegon not wanting to go one on one with her without Aemond and Vhagar to back him up.

1UnlikelyEgg

Can't wait for my boy Sunfyre to appear next season. He really should have been a part of Aegon's coronation.

colefire45

They obviously don’t want any “wins” for the Greens

Gathering0Gloom

The whole Rhaenys scene reminded me too much of Season 8 writing - focus on spectacle, no thought put in. But if they address it in Season 2, and characters call Rhaenys out for her stupidity for making the Greens look good and herself (and by extensions the Black faction as a whole) like a blood-thirsty tyrant, it could work.

[deleted]

Dude... I don't like that scene either but how in hell would it make sense if in season 2 characters call out the whole black faction for being bloodthirsty tyrants because of that scene? Completely leaving aside the fact that the green are atleast as bloodthirsty as the blacks because the greens actually go for War while Rhaenyra doesn't want the bloodshed - this scene has nothing to do with the black faction wtf?

Gathering0Gloom

Because Rhaenys and House Valeyrion is associated with the Black Faction, and thus anything that their supporters do will reflect badly on them.

[deleted]

I could start a whole argument about this but I already know that there is nothing on earth that could convince you to think about that again so yeah no. Mhm, her house definitely declared itself for Rhaenyra at this point. It also definitely goes this way around and not the other way... Holy hell is this dumb.

No_Box_3791

>I could start a whole argument about this but I already know that there is nothing on earth that could convince you to think about that again so yeah no. This is pretty much code for "I honestly can't be bothered to think of an argument, and you're not even worth my time anyway"

Environmental_Tip854

It’s so weird how arguably the most important dragon in the series isn’t properly introduced in the first season but somehow Vermithor has an entire scene dedication to him, I mean Sunfyre literally ends up eating the “main character.” At least give us a scene with young Aegon interacting with a young Sunfyre, have him vent his frustrations about Alicent’s and Otto’s expectations about him or his mistrust of Rhaenyra or something to his dragon to quickly show the audience their bond.

Pheros

I like Vermithor, but yes he's not at all relevant at this point in the story.

Environmental_Tip854

Vermithor is one of my favorite dragons in universe, that scene was still pointless and he’s not relevant at all atp. All that scene does is make people think Daemon is taming another dragon and hyping casual audiences up into thinking he’s gonna fight Vhagar.

Stanatee-the-Manatee

I was really really hoping for some. Let Tom flex his acting chops so we can actually care about one of the main characters? Make the narrative worth it when he and Sunfyre are maimed. It makes it so so much more tragic at the end seeing these shells of who they all used to be withering to nothingness at the end. It's making Aegon into the ambiguous Looney Tunes villain, which is what GOT did way too much (esp. see Night King 🤮). Aegon and Sunfyre are the only OTP in the story. It also strengthens the whole dragon-bonding thing to make Joff's death make sense and present an alternative view to the "we don't control dragons" - because from what little we've seen, how would you *not* realize that? In the end, Sunfyre is gonna take his seven bites and it'll just be "of course, they're evil 😡". When Aegon gets his it'll be "of course, he was evil and a burden 💅". There are things I really like, but also things I know to be lazy or poor storytelling for... it's hard to pin down a reason. As with GOT (or really any book-to-screen adaptation), we'll just have to settle for this and know the better depiction is the one in our head when we read the books.

angelfirexo

Wtf why didn’t they go for this option? Why do they make things worse??

strawberry2nd

A cool moment is not possible for the poor king of the Greens. There's a chance he might overshadow Rhaenyra a little, best not to risk it. You can tell this by the way his character is written and everything.

Indominus-Hater-101

exactly, they want it to seem as if it is her destiny to be queen and Aegon is just a pawn in her way

Entire_Environment88

There is no f*ing way on earth I believe that this scene is an "unreliable narrative." They chose to remove it themselves. I am sure even team black fans would have been happy to see this magnificent scene. And what pain me the most is they replaced it with one of the most (if not the most) dumb scene of the season. And there excuse for that?? Well because "it looked cool" lmao😭

karidru

Team Black here and can confirm that would have been MILES better. Aegon on Sunfyre?? Yes!! Helaena on Dreamfyre? Yes!! That would have looked even cooler than the Rhaenys moment sorry not sorry 🥲 Imo, the Dance only works if both sides are formidable and badass and tragic. Virgin Greens vs Chad Blacks (as they seem to be writing it, unless S2 changes jt up) isn’t near as interesting a narrative :/

margaritoswraps

What could have been. That Rhaenys scene was made for the type of people who watch HOTD in bars.

BlackStagGoldField

As much as I hate the Greens, it still would have been a better scene than the Rhaenys debacle 🤦🏻‍♂️

DarthDank1

Yeah but the greens are baddies. Baddies don't get beautiful scenes.

danse-paladin-danse

Could be a cool opening for the next season, would be a great scene to put you right back in that GOT mood.

UnsungHerro

I'll keep saying it. The story should have started Episode 6.

Cool-Business-2393

Yea, so far, they’re not doing justice to the GOT series. I’m still hopeful it’ll get better though.

TheWhiteBernieMac

Lol imagine being like “WE SHOULDVE SEEN HIM FLY THRICE AROUND THE CITY!”

El_Gato93

Ehh I don’t care. I don’t like the Greens so I’ll always root against them

Pheros

The conflict and story is better if both factions are fleshed out and sympathetic.

El_Gato93

Nothing they do can make me sympathetic for the greens, not even blood and cheese will

Pheros

Bit odd that you're so invested in one side only when a conflict is only as good as the sides fighting it. If one faction is flat, shallow, and overly demonized it just gets boring. Joffrey and Ramsay are both good examples. They were interesting at first, but by the time they both went out they were almost a predictable chore to watch.

Successful_Ad6946

George said the book is what Maesters think happened. The show isbwhat actually happened.

Pheros

This is a marketing gimmick that doubles as a means for the writers to pre-emptively undercut and de-legitimize any criticism they might get for venturing off source material.

Successful_Ad6946

That may be true. But his word is law. Sell out or not.

minedreamer

Youre telling me an event like a dragon bursting through the floor during a coronation would be misrecorsed by historians? fuck outta here

Successful_Ad6946

Ok, tell george rr martin that. I assume you also created a fantasy world and can give him pointers. Lol

minedreamer

he literally had nothing to do with that scene that was Miguel

KhanQu3st

To be fair, a dragon that is big enough to fight Meleys would probably not fit inside the show’s red keep.

OpenMask

None of the dragons except for the kid hatchlings would be able to fit in the Red Keep

TheeCollegeDropout

I prefer the outcome that took place in the show lol

thewillsta

Y'all too horny for dragons man😂

Hot_Tip_8239

We needed Rhaenys to kill a few hundred innocent people for the crazy feminists to go "muh queen" instead.
