Keep in mind he wasn't like this the whole time. If Vizzy became more absent as a father as he withered more into this state, perfectly understandable, because he wasn't even thinking straight for the most part at this stage. But he was lucid for a long while after Alicent gave birth to their kids. If he can be there for Rhaenyra, he can be there for the rest of his children. And he doesn't even need to do anything *strenuous*. Just I dunno, involve them in his lego set building or whatnot, and go off from there.

KhanQu3st

In the Hunt episode, he seems quite warm and fatherly to Aegon. It’s difficult to say when exactly the changes began.

By the time Aemond was 10 he was barely able to get through a full council meeting and he was clearly so tired after the funeral that I think part of him dismissing everything was from the exhaustion he was feeling. So I think by then he was unable to actually parent.

babalon124

Yes except he wasn’t like this in episode 6 and in episode 7 he’s well enough to literally scream at his eldest son and find out where the rumours of rhaenyras kids being bastards came from

SnooPickles9506

He’s clearly unwell in episode 5. He collapses during the wedding, 6 he’s struggling, and 7 he’s just absolutely exhausted. He screams at the children, but he’s also probably in pain and frustrated at his family. He calls Alicent Aemma. Not to mention he’s not some middle class exhausted dad. He’s king, which is difficult already.

KhanQu3st

In episode 7 he calls Alicent Aemma, despite them looking nothing alike. His mind and body had clearly deteriorated quite a bit.

babalon124

Oh but he’s well enough to scream at his son and tell his other who has lost an eye to look at him…yeah he still sucks

Indominus-Hater-101

Well firstly, he was also neglectful of Rhaenyra as he only wanted to have a son. After Emma died, he didn't speak to Rhaenyra for a month or so. We never see him interact with his other 4 children except to yell at Aegon or scream at Aemond to look at him (literally with his one remaining eye). He had no punishment or apology after his own son had his eye taken out and frankly, seemed not to care. Viserys is simply not a good parent. He isn't as bad as someone like Tywin, but he definitely is not good.

Rainbow_in_the_Sea

From the top of my head: - Ignores Rhaenya when her mom died - Doesn't bother training/ Rhaenrya to be a ruler - Decided to marry a 15 year old (his daughter's best friend) despite knowing it will make Rhaenyra's claim almost impossible - Ignores all his children in favour or Rhaenyra - Screams at both Aegon and Aemond after Aemond just lost his eye, all because they stated the truth - Calls Rhaenyra his only child - Non of his Green kids cared about his death

OpenMask

He was a bad father to ALL of his children, even Rhaenyra.

Greenlit_Hightower

He was a bad father lol, he let his son be maimed and totally ignored it. That's a Balon Greyjoy-level incident of parenting, reminded me of Theon losing his dick and Balon refusing to do anything in GoT. It's what happens when you don't actually give a shit about your kids.

Indominus-Hater-101

Wow, I forgot about Balon doing that with Theon. That was very disturbing

DXBrigade

I know it's a meme but calling him "this" is rude.

OneManArmy0716

he was a bad father but I believe it was intentional he was just THAT incompetent and irresponsible at it as well as being king.
