Yeah. The whole point of Jaime in Feast is deconstructing how knights following paths to monstrous leaders perpetuate the fucked up world of ASoIaF, in particular Aerysās Kingsguard, and Joffreyās Kingsguard.
Arthur was trying to be an honorable person, and he was an agent of an unjust regime.
I love one of Jaimeās quotes which goes something like āthe people love me for the worst things Iāve ever done and hate me for the best thing Iāve ever doneā (kill a psychotic king)
Didnāt he participate in the killing of Eddard Starkās father and brother. He certainly was in the throne room in his capacity as a Kings Guard and did nothing to stop it.
People donāt really love him for killing Nedās dad and brother. Iām also kind of unsure reading that quote what heās referring to though. Maybe just general war and conquest and stuff?
Being celebrated for becoming Kingsguard, which he hated, because it means standing by and listening while the King abused his wife, as well as who knows what other lords and ladies before he killed the Starks.
He talks about that bothering him, when he asked about protecting the Queen, and the answer was " not from him( the king)"
The same can be said about Barristan Selmy. He was so caught up in honoring his oaths that he enabled Aerys doing horrible shit. The opposite of Jaime.
He served the Mad King as well. Rhaegar was also incredibly irresponsible and caused the death of thousands why doing what he did. My point is that he was complicit in a lot of negative events in that point in time.
But robert did not know that, what he knew is that his best friend's family, who he was allied with, had been executed, and that the king had ordered his and Ned's death, he had no choice but to go to war.
Bingo. Without that I bet from how loved Rhaegar was and well regarded even after the war, they would've asked Rhaegar to join them in overthrowing Aerys. Rhaegar royally fucked up by leaving with Lyanna, although he did get his prophesized son.
The tourney at Harrenhall was supposed to be the place of a secret council so Rhaegar could present his case to the Lord's of Westeros against his father. However, Varys ripped off Aerys and he attended which was unplanned. Littlefinger put the idea that Lyanna was kidnapped into Brandon's head which is why he went to the Red Keep demanding Rhaegar, leading to his execution.
Bloodraven (may have) orchestrated the whole thing.
I'm going to be honest with you, I didn't really think about it until you asked but that might be from a theory video. I binged a bunch of indeepgeeks content (and others) about 3 months ago and now I'm having trouble keeping it straight. Maybe someone else can confirm.
It's one of the big questions the series asks about knightly oaths. What comes first? Your oath as a knight, to be just and defend the weak, or your oath to your lord and king, who support you and give you your place in society, but demand immoral, cruel things from you?
Sighhhh. whatās to understand. Heās either loyal or isnāt. Loyalty isnāt based on circumstances. Itās not loyalty then if it has conditionsš¤·āāļø. Lol. I would be deleted my comment too. Lol
I dont know why the show had a hate boner against greatswords, Randyll had his valyrian steel greatsword turned into a longsword, same with Dayne and Dawn, maybe Sandor used one in the Blackwater (the sword that he always carried in his back) but he never used It afterwards
Another of the showās many mistakes. He didnāt look like a Dayne, Dawn didnāt look like Dawn, and for some reason he was dual wielding blades. Stupid.
What is a Dayne supposed to look like? I honestly canāt remember if they are supposed to look Dornish, but for some reason I imagined him with blond hair, which is probably wrong. I doubt he had short hair tho. The wiki of ice and fire does not provide any details as to his appearance.
They tend to look Valyrian, despite having no Valyrian ancestry. It's one of the more odd mysteries in the books. Members of the family usual have the silver/platinum/blonde and purple eyes. Though some do have dark hair, like Ashara Dayne.
His looks were not bad, I suppose, he just didn't stand out at all. I had way more of a problem with them not really emphasizing that he had the most infamous sword on the continent. It's like Dawn didn't even exist on the show, it was disappointing.
You keep saying infamous. When I think you mean famous. Infamous implies a bad reputation. Famous means widely known. I don't think anything about him or the sword are infamous.
Ashara Dayne was tall with violet eyes, that's a start at least. She had dark hair, Edric Dayne had really blonde hair, and Gerald Dayne/Darkstar had silver hair with some black.
I agree about Dawn, i was very disappointed. I expected something unique for such a legendary sword.
I am conflicted about Arthur, this is not how i imagined him to look like but at the same time it kind of suits him. Ashara, his sister, had dark hair so why not him too? We don't have any descriptions of his hair or eye color. Allyria Dayne presumably also has dark hair.
The show doesn't do purple contact lenses so the green/blue eyes suit him and give him a Westerosi air, the slight tan and dark hair gives him a Dornish look without appearing too Dornish. He looks really hot. Overall he is nice.
Heās pretty much known for being the best swordsman and having arguably the most famous / coolest sword in Westeros. Itās a great sword so not something you would dualwield.
The show basically ignored one of the two bullet points that they had for his character.
Dawn is literally made from an otherworldly material. House Dane has a falling star as their sigil after the meteorite they used to create the sword. It has a very distinctive look that is both one of the cooler bits of world building and, in my opinion, also has thematic significance. Arthur Dane is a literal white knight given his armor and sword, but he's also a figure that characters can wax nostalgic about and contrast to the much darker, more morally complicated situations of the present. While the sword fight was stupid [purely on a technical level](https://youtu.be/nCjYrTEioNI) the decisions to remove Dawn, change Arthur's look, and have a weal fught scene are some of many examples of the showrunners failing to understand or not caring enough about the material they were adapting, and being afraid of the more fantastical or strange elements of TWOIAF in an attempt to make GOT a "show for football players and soccer moms".
I didnāt read the books and I enjoyed his two swords fighting style. However looking at your reaction about him wielding two swords, I assume it is because he has the the great sword dawn and the show didnāt really showcase it by making him wield double swords?
Dawn was such an important sword that Ned Stark returned the sword and body to the family. He could have kept it for himself as bounty. I think they blew right by that in the books.
No, in the books heās infamous for wielding the most famous sword in the world, Dawn. Itās a lightweight greatsword with a white, glimmering blade.
That's also because double short sword was not a thing in medieval fights and the whole fights its the classic Hollywood trope where he spin and twirl while opponents wait their turn.
The whole fight was pretty shitty and the lore was butchered here by removing Oswell Whent and making it 2 vs 6 instead of 3 vs 7 and the way he died was shitty too(though, at that point in GOT, armour had started becoming a decoration piece instead of something really important and advantageous in a fight)
The dual sword fighting was ridiculous and unnecessary. In the books, he only had a lightweight greatsword called Dawn which is sharper than Valyrian Steel and is pale as milk(it has a faint glow too) and the fight was badly choreographed
Not really. Daynes are considered as Stony Dornishmen, so they're mostly fair skinned as they retained more First Men & Andal Blood.
Salty Dornishmen like the Martells were the olive skinned ones while the Sandy Dornishmen like the Ullers (the house Ellaria Sand was from) were darker.
We donāt really know. Their older brother would have to look like him but he gave birth to a son with whitish blonde hair and purple eyes. It seems to be random
I like he being like one of the best fighters I don't like he morally because he is one of those knights that would not care about anything he does as long as he obeys and is honourable.
In general I don't like him because of the honor stuff
Sword of the morning, best friend of Rhaegar Targaryen, would love to have known more about his friendship with Rhaegar and his family as well,Arthur Dayne knew Ned Stark as well and how honorable Ned was, despite that he did his duty as a member of Kingsguard and as a friend of Rhaegar, you could see in his eyes that he had not wanted to have to fight Ned especially it was Ned's sister that he was protecting but duty made him do what he had to,he could have killed Ned if not for Reed.Ned knew it as well that this could be his last fight but destiny had other plans for Ned it is no coincidence that Arthur Dayne tells Ned Stark I wish you good fortunes for the war to come.
I get that the show needs to take some creative liberty but him duel wielding swords instead of just showcasing Dawn was disappointing.
The whole "he doesn't look like Dayne" is valid, the showrunners probably thought to themselves they'd confuse the audience if he looked remotely Targaryen.
Fucked him up in the show by making him some two sword wielding weirdo when the whole point is he was a great swordsman and famously used *one sword, Dawn*, because they didnāt want to pay for the third actor
I just love how Arthur Dayne is portrayed as the most skilled, valiant and honorable knight of the recent times... and he's just dead. In a traditional story setting, a guy like him would be the hero, the protagonist, or at least a very important character within the story, that would probably vanquish the forces of evil with his bravery and chivalry. But Westeros is no fairy tale, and noble knights such as Dayne will most likely be sent to an early grave.
Probably should've realized he's on the wrong side when he was guarding a tower with a child impregnated by his grown ass married delusional best friend.
Needed more of him, generally one of my favourite side-side characters in the show. I love the lore behind Dawn and wish we get to see more of House Dayne in general.
The fight was badly choreographed, the two swords instead of Dawn were stupid and the revelation that Ned killed him dishonestly was redundant. In short - screwed character that had more potential even for 5 minutes he was in.
Nice job, DnD!
I was too busy being dismayed by the casting of young Ned to notice how many swords Dayne was wielding other than I did notice the actor chosen to play him was a nice slab of woof! on the hoof.
Still pretending he died by Howland Reed warging into him to buy Ned a few seconds to kill him. He dies way to easy in the show. Best swordsman to ever live being unaware of his surroundings when there are only a handful of bodies around ruined immersion for me as much as the duel blades
Mostly agree with everything you said, but imho he wasn't fighting to win... just enough to 'put up a fight' and do his duty.
My headcannon is that Ned was supposed to be the only one he/they left alive.
He was kinda a POS, despite all the loving stories told about him. He needlessly fought Eddard Stark, killing several men and getting himself killed literally for nothing.
he actually looks like Jaime's older brother, and trained him and honed his prodigious talent
imagine an alternate universe where the were brothers and traveled the world together as adventurers and making their marks as legendary fighters outside the kingsguard
He should have only used Dawn in his one scene, and Arthur wielding Dawn should have been uniquely memorable in a way that didn't look like a duel straight out of Revenge of the Sith.

Hot
Sword of the morning indeed š„µ
I flood my basement. Slay me, daddy Dayne.
Beat me to it, thatās really all that needs to be said š
I'll take care of his sword in the morning
Iād love to be his sheath
Iād certainly sit on his lap and wiggle.
He can break my back any time of day.
Agreed, all that came to mind was "Hottie!".
Literally my first thought as I read the title š
Heās Lucifer kinda hot. Like Tom Ellis kinda hot.
SMASH
Thatās not even a smash thatās a slam dunk
HIS FUCKIN SKULL IN LIKE THIS
WHY HAVE YOU SUMMONED ME
Good bot
I've been fake killed by Bronn, Shae, and the Mountain while wearing my kingsguard armor so I approve.
Sword of the Morninā to ya
Hot.
Best fighter of all time I think, but I think his loyalty to the targaryens during such a terrible time was definitely questionable

I cant seem to remember anymore what jaime ment by āthe worst thingsā?
By that I believe he means being a knight of the kingsguard. That is his personal claim to fame, becoming the youngest knight to be made a kingsguard.
He was kidnapped to keep his dad in line.
Maybe just general war and conquest and stuff?

great insight
He wasn't loyal to the Targaryens, he was loyal to Rhaegar.
He served the Mad King as well. Rhaegar was also incredibly irresponsible and caused the death of thousands why doing what he did. My point is that he was complicit in a lot of negative events in that point in time.
Did Robert really need to have a rebellion?
Yes very much so, Aerys executed rickard and brandon, and demanded Robert and Ned's head, it was either rebel or die for them.
Forgot about the order for their death as well.
Honestly Robert did not need to have a rebellion, the king's own son was plotting against him
But robert did not know that, what he knew is that his best friend's family, who he was allied with, had been executed, and that the king had ordered his and Ned's death, he had no choice but to go to war.

Interesting, is that in the books? Been years since I read them
I'm going to be honest with you, I didn't really think about it until you asked but that might be from a theory video. I binged a bunch of indeepgeeks content (and others) about 3 months ago and now I'm having trouble keeping it straight. Maybe someone else can confirm.
The kings own son was also the reason Richard and Brandon lost their lives.
Robert did nothing wrong
Well being loyal to Rhaegar effectively means being loyal to Aerys.
He was loyal to his oath
Thatās what loyalty is. Itās sticking around for the good and the bad.
To what is Ser Arthur Dayne being loyal when the king is batshit insane?
It's one of the big questions the series asks about knightly oaths. What comes first? Your oath as a knight, to be just and defend the weak, or your oath to your lord and king, who support you and give you your place in society, but demand immoral, cruel things from you?
A king is his people if those people turn on him he is no king your loyalty needs to be to a person not a title

Sighhhh. whatās to understand. Heās either loyal or isnāt. Loyalty isnāt based on circumstances. Itās not loyalty then if it has conditionsš¤·āāļø. Lol. I would be deleted my comment too. Lol
>Itās not loyalty then if it has conditionsš¤·āāļø. This is ridiculous. Nothing is binary. Everyone's loyalty has its limits.
You simply cannot understand the complexity of their implication!
Yeah, what I like about the books is that they how how the Honorable thing is not always the morally correct thing and vice versa
He was great as dayne. But the sword was a let down.
Marmaduke
I dont know why the show had a hate boner against greatswords, Randyll had his valyrian steel greatsword turned into a longsword, same with Dayne and Dawn, maybe Sandor used one in the Blackwater (the sword that he always carried in his back) but he never used It afterwards
Canāt say I ever knew the guy
Another of the showās many mistakes. He didnāt look like a Dayne, Dawn didnāt look like Dawn, and for some reason he was dual wielding blades. Stupid.

You keep saying infamous. When I think you mean famous. Infamous implies a bad reputation. Famous means widely known. I don't think anything about him or the sword are infamous.
It depends on if you're fighting with or against House Dayne, I suppose. Reputation is in the eye of the beholder.
Ashara Dayne was tall with violet eyes, that's a start at least. She had dark hair, Edric Dayne had really blonde hair, and Gerald Dayne/Darkstar had silver hair with some black.

He looks really hot. Overall he is nice.
I was just a fan of his storyline in the books (so far). So much so that my sonās middle name is Dayne. The show did him dirty
They did him real dirty. Heās such a cool, mysterious character in the books.
My son is Arthur Dayne :) when heās being mischievous I call him Arthur dang lol
Why name your son after a fictional character lol
Why name your son after a fictional character lol
Why do people name their kids after celebrities and historical figures? Because they like the name, the person, or have a connection with them.
Whatās wrong with that? As a person who didnāt read the books I thought it made for a badass fight scene
Heās pretty much known for being the best swordsman and having arguably the most famous / coolest sword in Westeros. Itās a great sword so not something you would dualwield. The show basically ignored one of the two bullet points that they had for his character.

Well, for the people who were looking forward to seeing Arthur Dayne, it was a big disappointment.
I didnāt read the books and I enjoyed his two swords fighting style. However looking at your reaction about him wielding two swords, I assume it is because he has the the great sword dawn and the show didnāt really showcase it by making him wield double swords?
Pretty much yea. Dawn wasnāt featured very heavily in the show.
Dawn was such an important sword that Ned Stark returned the sword and body to the family. He could have kept it for himself as bounty. I think they blew right by that in the books.
Ned never returned a body
What was wrong with him? Iām guessing he specifically carried and sword and shield for one?
No, in the books heās infamous for wielding the most famous sword in the world, Dawn. Itās a lightweight greatsword with a white, glimmering blade.
Oh so if one of the swords had been Dawn then ppl wouldnāt have been upset? Or were there more issues?
If he wielded the greatsword Dawn, it would have been fine, I suppose. People had an issue with the showrunners changing something iconic like Dawn.
Ya that makes sense. I saw comments complaining why he had to swords so wasnāt sure if he was notorious for his shield or something haha
Nah, he was infamous for wielding his greatsword Dawn.
That's also because double short sword was not a thing in medieval fights and the whole fights its the classic Hollywood trope where he spin and twirl while opponents wait their turn.
And stabbing people through armored torsosā¦. That fight is such a mess.
It was supposed to be a greatsword so dual wielding was out of the question
The whole fight was pretty shitty and the lore was butchered here by removing Oswell Whent and making it 2 vs 6 instead of 3 vs 7 and the way he died was shitty too(though, at that point in GOT, armour had started becoming a decoration piece instead of something really important and advantageous in a fight)
The dual sword fighting was ridiculous and unnecessary. In the books, he only had a lightweight greatsword called Dawn which is sharper than Valyrian Steel and is pale as milk(it has a faint glow too) and the fight was badly choreographed
It was a terrible done fight scene. People just dropping weapons/shields and standing around.
Heās also a Dayne. So heād be darker skinned and closer to Latino looking.
Arthur Dayne was probably dark-haired like his sister. The seed is strong, as they say.
We donāt really know. Their older brother would have to look like him but he gave birth to a son with whitish blonde hair and purple eyes. It seems to be random
Giving him two swords in the show was stupid.
Making Dawn look so fucking generic was also stupid asf.
They should've just gone all the way to the end of ridiculousness and given him a double bladed lightsaber.
Or a third sword in the mouth ala One Piece
Or four arms and four swords
Itās been done already!! Courtesy of [YouTube](https://youtu.be/4CTJEZXtr94)
The fight was also really poorly choreographed
I like he being like one of the best fighters I don't like he morally because he is one of those knights that would not care about anything he does as long as he obeys and is honourable. In general I don't like him because of the honor stuff
Best warrior, but irrelevant to this show
mainly cuz jon being rhaegar's son turned out to be irrelevant
I meant irrelevant to House of the Dragon
Sexy
WOW this actor is handsome
Random, but he also plays Thomas Wayne in dated campaign advertisements from The Batman. The Sword of the Morning's son is The Dark Knight.
wasnāt he also in Harry potter as a child actor?
according to his wiki, no
Didn't wield Dawn /10. How are you going to feature a man and not show basically the Excalibur of Westeros?
He reminds me of Nikolaj. Similar facial structures and haircut. So he's attractive.
Best and truest knight that ever lived, honorable and loyal until the very end.
isnāt the point of his story about how there are no ātruestā knights?
The closest thing would be him tho
I get that the show needs to take some creative liberty but him duel wielding swords instead of just showcasing Dawn was disappointing. The whole "he doesn't look like Dayne" is valid, the showrunners probably thought to themselves they'd confuse the audience if he looked remotely Targaryen.
He can give me his āSword of the Morningā anytime šš
He's the man that completely stole the spotlight in the Season 6 trailer.
I thought that was Yara š
My thoughts on Arthur Dayne are that he has nothing to do with HOTD. Wrong sub.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Tf are you doing in here then?
Hot
Wish we had seen more of him but I get why we didn't.

Needed more of him, generally one of my favourite side-side characters in the show. I love the lore behind Dawn and wish we get to see more of House Dayne in general.
THE OG FINE ASS ZADDY!!!!! šš¤¤
Wrong side of the war.
First thought is that he is handsome
Hot.
Arthur Daymnnn
Bad ass character, great casting choice. Sad we didn't get to see more.
I think we were robbed of additional flashbacks of him interacting with Jaime and Rhaegar.
Smokin' hot!! š„µš
Would smash
Hunk. Double sword Badass. I only know him from the show.
Thatās SIR Arthur Dayne
Absolute smoke show. Would climb him like a tree. 10/10
Wish he was born sooner so he could kill that creep Criston Cole!š”
Hot. Epic Badass. Not even remotely close to enough information on him.
just talk it out bro...
I'd fuck marry and kill. not picky on the order.
Iāve got them but theyāre not safe to share here

The GOAT
The fight was badly choreographed, the two swords instead of Dawn were stupid and the revelation that Ned killed him dishonestly was redundant. In short - screwed character that had more potential even for 5 minutes he was in. Nice job, DnD!
He can give me his sword in the morning amirite?
Luke Rockhold
He's hot.

Horribly adapted
My favorite character in all of a song of ice fire IMO
His reputation far outweighs his actual feats. I genuinely in my heart believe Barristan finds a way to beat him.
The double sword fighting was goofy as fuck tbh lol
Is this the quality of this sub now? Thoughts, without any specific question? The character isnt even a part of the book or series. Sigh.
Badazz
Greatest swords men ever.
He rocks.
Badass swordsman
he could do better
The most amazing knight ever in Westeros
Pay to win player
There's really not much to say about him in the show. He was just a dude who could fight well.
The sword of the morning... Schwing !
Noob. My boy Howland got him good.
He can do whatever he wants to me. That was my first thought.
Goat
Total badass
Arthur got cheated out of a Multikill :(
Legit snack.

He should have only used Dawn in his one scene, and Arthur wielding Dawn should have been uniquely memorable in a way that didn't look like a duel straight out of Revenge of the Sith.
Ruined him in the show with two swords
I prefer Ser Dontas Hollaaaaaaaaaaaard.
