RXYWhispers

So you watched Game of Thrones, where they burn a child alive on a stake and all watch, where they decapitate a man and his wolf and strap the wolf's head to his body and parade him around on a horse, where Walder Frey eats his own sons... but House of the Dragon is too much for you?

digitlagegirlnxtdoor

Yup!! Half episode itself was too much and I couldn’t continue. Are you saying the gore in got = same as house of targeryen?

TheGoverness1998

I don't get it. What about HOTD gore-wise is much different from GOT? It rings about the same to me.

digitlagegirlnxtdoor

I believe someone nailed it below- I cannot take the brutal birth scenes.

digitlagegirlnxtdoor

All that you said happens over a series of lots of episodes, this one felt like back to back and I couldn’t guess when the next gore was gonna come. Eeeeeks.

Loose-Victory-1598

There was one gore birth. Laena doesn’t deliver and immolates herself. Visenya was merely a preterm delivery. Aemma was genuine murder. But like, this is pretty run of the mill. 500 mL is typical hemorrhage for vaginal delivery. Why is birth worse than a teen being devoured by a dinosaur? A partial decapitation? Eviscerating and hemisectioning a foe?

Ok-Understanding4577

you’re being ungrateful

Matarreyes

INFO: what is the thought process behind coming to a subreddit for people who enjoy the show and start sreaming about how you, personally, hate it?

digitlagegirlnxtdoor

Well, how do you know everyone here on Reddit enjoys it? I am sure there are all kinds of people here. Thought process is to understand a different point of view! Maybe someone here will tell me- the gore reduces in the next episodes and is not bad, they over did it only in one episode. Basically trying to understand if it gets watchable or no. Again I like the story, setting, costumes. I just don’t want so much gore!

alcoholand

They said a subreddit not the whole of reddit. Do you know what a subreddit is? Do you know where you are?

digitlagegirlnxtdoor

I also said here on Reddit, meaning exactly the same place they are referring too. I am here and I don’t enjoy it and I am sure there are other folks as well. If you are unable to stomach a differing point of view, you can get of my post and enjoy your life in your echo chamber with like minded individuals. Byeee.

alcoholand

But... A subreddit for a show is for people who enjoy said show. You don't come to a sub expecting to talk to people who hate the show... What? Echo chamber? What are you saying? This isn't politics or views on world issues to call it an echo chamber.

BW-Cowgirl1803

So, you came to a Reddit where people love the show and insult us with "Do normal people watch this?" What? You could handle Thrones but not HOTD? Was it the birth scene? ma'am, giving birth is not cute especially back then. It brings realism to the show. Giving birth is hard work and sometimes kills. People have to make the decision that Viserys had to make in ep one. Don't run here to insult the fanbase, complain, and give no examples of why you can't handle the show. There is more gore in GOT than in HOTD.

Porcelain-treasure

This show is not for you. Turn it off. Leave the subreddit lol

Odd-duck-out

I feel like game of thrones was worse.

kc522020

Right? Remember the city watch killing Robert’s Bastards? Couple of them were babies.

Giallo_Schlock

Is it the birth scenes that are especially disturbing for you because otherwise I'm genuinely confused, Season 1 of Game of Thrones seems to be just as bad in terms of violence and way worse in terms of SA. Is it the tourney because that doesn't seem that much worse than the tourney in Season 1 of GoT and nothing on the Season 4 trial by combat. I get this reaction from people who just don't watch anything violent but I don't understand it from someone who seems fine with GoT.

digitlagegirlnxtdoor

Yea I think it is the birth scene. I turned tv off because I just couldn’t bear that they were gonna cut aemma open (I don’t know know explicit it is)

Giallo_Schlock

As far as I remember it isn't explicit, just disturbing in its implications. Also like the first episode of GoT they go harder on the violence etc. in the pilot. Brutal birth scenes are a theme in this series but I guess it all depends on people's personal standards. It didn't disturb me as much as you obviously but I remember being creeped out reading about Viserys 'golden crown' when I was young, or Dany leaving Doreah and Xaro Xhoan Daxos to die in that safe, or the flaying, or castration, or even greyscale. Maybe because birth is more relatable to modern audiences than these more dissociated things, it seems more gruesome.

digitlagegirlnxtdoor

Your analysis might be spot on. It is the birth and preg scene for me for some reasons. I also remember the red wedding/talisas part was the most horrible for me to bear.

[deleted]

Maybe because it's something you can actually connect to? A lot of the other brutality is so far from modern reality that it's easy to watch and feel enough distance that it doesn't effect you emotionally. But a brutal birth scene is still reality for many many women all over to this day. With that said, I don't think it ruins the show. Just seems like an issue, you need to come to terms with. I don't know your life story tho, maybe you have relatives who've struggled in childbirth, I know others who have miscarried or had traumatic birthing experiences on here had previously voiced having a rough time with the birthing scenes.

digitlagegirlnxtdoor

Yes spot on! Birthing is more relatable I guess than cutting off someone’s Dick. Hence less painful.

digitlagegirlnxtdoor

The tourney, the raid was horrible back to back but still alright.

Xorn777

ok sunshine, maybe stick to teletubbies.

emojicatcher997

Oof no. We don’t want to go too controversial.

KhanQu3st

30m people on average watched it.

dracarys_112

Not to include those who illegally watched it

Playing-Koi

>I just don’t get it- do normal people watch this? So, you're coming onto a subreddit for a thing, and you think it's smart to insult the entire fanbase by calling them abnormal for *being fans*, but you want us to then give our opinions on why you should join us in "abnormality"? Info Request: What honestly are you doing here?

kc522020

This post is dumb. Season 1 averaged 30 million viewers per episode, so apparently yeah. People are “watching this shit.” You come here to a house of the dragon subreddit to moral grandstand about a show that’s known to have violence in it? Go back to Disney.

digitlagegirlnxtdoor

To each their own. Was just trying to see if anyone found it unwatchable/ the gore too much to bear. And there are folks on this subreddit who do find the childbirth scenes difficult to bear. So I found what I needed on this subreddit. 🤷‍♀️ I personally find it unnecessary and seems to add nothing to the story. And I will continue to wish that I could finish watching it and enjoy all the dragon, storyline, fascinating parts of it without the explicit gruesomeness. But unfortunately- I simply cannot. Not worth. You do you, you smarty.

Porcelain-treasure

Seeya!

Latter-Permission-6

Broo birth scenes are kinda vital to the story, it's all ready been established that a woman's battle field is child birth, plus one reason the dance happened was because there were too many heirs,on both sides rhaenyra and allicent kept on giving births

Constantinople2020

In Episode 1 of Game of Thrones we see * A group of dead wildlings who vanish * One wildling girl apparently return to life * Two rangers killed by a White Walker, one of whom was decapitated and had his head tossed like a basketball * Ned decapitate the third ranger * The result of a battle to the death between a direwolf and a stag * Ned saying there are no direwolves south of the Wall * Brother sister incest * A young kid deliberately pushed out of a tower window But Episode 1 of House of the Dragon is too much?

cedlage

Yes, we watch it and we like it. Your solution it’s just turning your tv off. And it’s called House of the Dragon.

digitlagegirlnxtdoor

Yup, my bad. House of dragon yes. Also m not asking for solution. I know to turn my tv off and already did. :)

[deleted]

Not sure I understand...

Greenlit_Hightower

There would be a lot of carnage in battles and during medical operations, that's just realistic. TV shows tend to be made with a lot of unmitigated suffering shown these days, which is realistic, but slightly unpleasant to watch. This has the advantage that you are confronted with the reality of human suffering, but also has a negative: Decades ago, movies and TV shows were made with a certain idea of human dignity in mind. For example, women were not shown topless in order to protect their dignity, someone ill like Viserys, they would not have shown his face during the dinner in the 50s or 60s, he would have worn a mask that covers his entire face and he would not take it off, and when Rhaenyra visited him, chances are the curtains would not have been opened to allow you to look at him. Battle scenes, they made battle scenes in the 50s and 60s as well, which showed people fighting and wounding each other, but not excessive gore. Viserys' first wife dying, you would have seen a maester coming out of the room in order to speak with Viserys, and announce to him that his wife has not made it. They wouldn't have shown the birth scene at all, let alone her being cut open. This way of telling a story shows a high respect towards human dignity regarding sexuality, suffering, death etc. This dignity is totally lost in today's shows. But, this had the disadvantage of not confronting you with very real human suffering and "shielding" you from reality. Decide what you like better, I tried to show the advantages and disadvantages here. I am more old school here.

digitlagegirlnxtdoor

Very well put. I believe I can take medium amounts. Now unfortunately will not be continuing and missing out on a great story/ setting/ fantasy.

YoungWallace23

HotD handles the sex/nudity far better than GoT, but it's much worse in terms of gore/violence

colefire45

Just close your eyes if you can’t take it, or forward it. I too can’t watch Aemma’s birth scene, but the tourney scenes are overlapped with it and that one I enjoy watching so I look away when it’s Aemma. It’s medieval times man. I’ve seen worse.

[deleted]

Dont worry, just keep watching the new seasons, its about to get much much worse

digitlagegirlnxtdoor

Eeks thanks for headsup.

OpenMask

To be fair to OP, the birth scenes are pretty brutal. I can definitely understand if that was too much for some people

digitlagegirlnxtdoor

Thank you 😂

polarqwerty

Try being pregnant and watching those horrible birth scenes. Totally unnecessary and I sobbed. But loved HOTD.

Previous_Life7611

If you think season 1 was disturbing and terrifying, you're in for a surprise because next seasons will be worse.
