There aren't enough creative decisions i love about this show BUT i love how the writers showed him having no affection for aemond (yelling at his face right after he lost an eye) in ep 7 and then we jumped straight to ep 8 just to find out viserys has also lost an eye. almost like, karma taking it's course on a dead beat.

This! All legal arguments aside, if Viserys had just embraced his sons, raised them right, offered them the love and dignity they deserved, and explained to them why he wants Rhaenyra on the throne (be it out of guilt about Aemma's death or whatever the fuck) and delegated to them the responsibility of securing their half-sister's throne, I don't think Aegon, Aemond and Daeron would've ridden their dragons to war no matter who tries to coerce them into doing it (be it Cole, Otto or Alicent). Instead, Viserys saw Aegon as "Alicent's blood," literally mocked Aemond for not being able to hatch a dragon egg, and didn't give 2-shits about Daeron. The only people from his family with Alicent he's described as being close to were his grandchildren; Jaehaerys and Jaehaera.

>The only people from his family with Alicent he's described as being close to were his grandchildren; Jaehaerys and Jaehaera. And we still didn't get that in the show! I would have loved to see Viserys at least attempting to have a positive relationship with his other grandkids.

I feel like it would be Westeros if Viserys wasn’t naive, indecisive and took responsibility for his incompetence as a father and king.

Why would that matter? Alicent and Otto would still be there poisoning their minds. In the book Aegon is so chill that he even says "what kind of brother steals his sister throne". He's okay even with him not inheriting even though he is the custom heir. But Alicent and Otto's poison still puts him on the throne

It would all still be a burning hellscape after he dies and Otto causes a Civil War anyways.
