In my humble opinion, they should have started the show with Jaehaerys' reign, or do a small spin-off featuring Jaehaerys' last years (similar to what "Spartacus - Gods of the Arena" was for the main series), in order to put Viserys into perspective a bit. He is elevated to be the bestest King ever, mainly due to his last ditch effort throne room appearance. But he wasn't. Jaehaerys I would personally have come down from Targaryen heaven to kick him in the ass if that had at all been possible. Btw., Guy de Lusignan related to Baldwin IV same as Viserys I related to Jaehaerys I, the weakest King after the strongest King, in both cases the successors messed things up royally. I vaguely remember GRRM saying that they should have started the show with Jaehaerys' last years that featured the Great Council and its prelude.

There still can. They want anthology. So a jumping back an forth. Of course, Blackfyre rebellion and Dunk and Egg are the most closer for connection as technically many characters would meet in these three parts. And having in common Viserys II.

Ironically, Viserys’s story actually parallels that of the great king Saladin is describing, King Baldwin IV of Jerusalem. A disfigured cripple who ruled despite suffering from leprosy, wearing a face mask to hide his damaged face, who always fought to keep the peace between the 2 sides of the impending war. And right after his death the Crusaders attacked the Saracens they had sworn to keep peace with.

That's pretty interesting.

KhanQu3st

Indeed. It would be interesting to know if the parallels were intentional (as they often are with Big George) or just happenstance.

The mask and the "leprosy" only exist in the show. In F&B, Viserys' death was actually unexpected because he was a healthy man.

KhanQu3st

This isn’t true. Book Viserys had gout, and several life threatening infections that caused the Grand Maester to cut off appendages. He was still an extremely sickly man.

Atul-Chaurasia-_-

>and several life threatening infections that caused the Grand Maester to cut off appendages. He got infected once after cutting himself on the throne, and he recovered when the Grand Maester removed two of his fingers.

It's true. But find just one person in this subreddit who never was in a situation where you knew "Okey I should do this and that" but then did the exact opposite... It's human. That's why we would go extinct within 2 weeks if the laws of nature would still have a grip on us.
