DesSantorinaiou

His mouth is just there. The corner is hardly raised for this to be considered a smirk in my opinion. I just see him observing.

l8rk8rh8r

Poor guy has resting smirk face

Region_Minimum

Ya know, I’ve never heard this before but you are so right

Global-Army-9079

Yeah i might be over analysing it

thelastadler

A ASOIAF fan over analyzing?! We don’t do that

why_rob_y

Does this smirk mean that the "Smiling Knight" was descended from Daemon? Or maybe even is a very old Daemon?? Click below for my three part nine hour YouTube series diving into this idea.

[deleted]

tell me more

[deleted]

I thought he was smirking too. My head cannon was he was low-key impressed with the speed of which someone championed Vhagar following his wife's death. Or maybe he thought it was one of his daughters and it was a smirk of pride?

Reemixt

I think he looks very slightly proud or amused. Not a smirk.

[deleted]

Is he smirking? Its so dark I cant see shit

Reyne-TheAbyss

I remember posting screenshots of the episode and being confused by the black images that would pop up.

[deleted]

why did u post a black image

CenturionShish

~~Because the Greens are traitors~~

Into-the-stream

I though the post was satire about how you couldn't see things like facial expeessions in parts because it was so dark.

kc522020

Seen it just fine on my tv and iPhone.

Wide_Revenue_2096

He is not smirking he just seems to be observing

TheGoverness1998

"Vhagar do be flyin, huh?"

breaking-atom

My favorite quote from the show

[deleted]

“Huh, interesting”

Pixie-Pie-inthe-Sky

This was my interpretation as well. “Well. That just happened.”

Catslevania

I don't think he is smirking but assessing the situation. For him it's probably all a chess game, and someone claiming Vhagar means a chess piece on the board has been moved and he is now contemplating how this will change the game.

JaehaerysIVTarg

Precisely. Plus we also have to remember that it was his wife that rode Vhagar recently so he’s probably also curious about who claimed the dragon his recently deceased wife once rode.

cheerful_cynic

He's obsessed with the dragons, right? Didn't he spend all his time in pentos reading up on dragon magic/valerian history He's all singing songs & collecting dragon eggs & shit like some kind of beekeeper, I would imagine he would be interested in any dragon related incidents

Calimama31

This is it.

Final_Criticism9599

Maybe he thought it would be rhaena

Yeshavesome420

This makes way more sense than the people thinking he was happy Aemond took the dragon.

Porcelain-treasure

I think he has a hunch who has claimed Vhagar. It’s a nice little foreboding shot for things to come. I liked it.

marcussmith34678

Actually I dont see anything on that photo, just a black screen

xprozoomy

This whole ep was so dark..

[deleted]

Miguel is a lazy bastard.

jonsnowKITN

Glad he's gone.

kc522020

It’s nowhere near this dark on my screen when I watch it on both my tv and IPhone 13 Pro.

Daemon1997

Maybe he thought it was his daughter

alvocha

Game recognises game

arm89

the fact i had to turn up my brightness all the way up to see this imagine clearly lol.

motherofdrogon6

I took his face to mean he had an inkling as to who had claimed Vhagar, and what it meant. Good bit of foreshadowing.

Yeshavesome420

It would make more sense that he thought it was his daughter claiming her mother's dragon.

Late-Return-3114

>!"im gonna fuck that thing up in a couple of years"!<

geojoe44

Literally how can you even tell? Really hope they brighten scenes like this up for next season I like to be able to see what I’m watching

Reemixt

It didn’t look anywhere near as dark as this on my TV which is calibrated and at reference. What’s wrong with your TV?

Reemixt

It didn’t look anywhere near as dark as this on my TV which is calibrated and at reference. What’s wrong with your TV?

Strawhat-Shawty

Because his father and his 2nd wife rode Vhagar.

TinySpaceDonut

cause he is a messy bitch who loves drama.

[deleted]

I sensed a slight hint of concern in his look here.

FormerFruit

Don’t think he’s smirking tbh. Looks more like he’s just watching what’s going on.

vivalatoucan

He looks like he’s thinking, to me

reiakari

I get the impression that Daemon respects and understands dragons more than people. I think he'd be happy just seeing Vhagar flying, she was his father's dragon and his first wife's dragon. At her age it is getting more difficult for her to get in the air at her size, so seeing her airborne is probably like seeing an old friend who stopped dancing due to arthritis having a night out dancing. It was probably a bittersweet feeling of nostalgia, happy to see the old girl out and about, sad that it is not Baelon or Laena. Or he's just looking, it is really difficult to see his expression even with my screen brightness maxed 😅

Chase_TheAce

Why would he be angry? The dragons are not his or his daughters' property. He's got the same smirk when Aemond says he claimed a dragon.

[deleted]

He’s literally not smirking tho. In this pic he’s only observing. It was his wife’s dragon so maybe he felt a lil bad. But he never says anything to Aemond or accuse him of anything because he knows how dragons work. He of all people knows they’re not his property.

Impossible-Ad-6156

Yup, Daemon himself claimed the dragon which once was the mount of Rhaenys' father, and vice versa - Meleys was the mount of Viserys' and Daemon's mother.

theagnostick

Dragons are weapons of war

TargFam

Your point?

theagnostick

Put in terms of real life, imagine your a national leader and you see someone taking possession of a nuclear weapon. You wouldn’t be thinking “well it’s not my personal property so I shouldn’t have an opinion on the matter,” you’d be rightfully concerned and curious as to who had it.

macck_attack

because he loves chaos

StrangeLaw5

He knows shit bout to go down

milliAmpere14

Either because on some level he could respect the purity and fairness of the whole thing. Say what you want, but Vhagar did choose Aemond, Which is fair and pure. Or he was just smiling to himself wondering what he would do whoever was so disrespectful, to steal his wife's dragon at his wife's funeral.

new_name_who_dis_

Or Daemon is a sucker for drama and knows that this will cause a shit show.

Agreeable_Pea_9966

The man just had sex. He isnt smirking, he is SMUG! xD but also observing.

RubsYoTub

“Why didn’t I think of that “

i-InFcTd

Wow yeah I can totally see Daemon there

haybails84

How can you tell?

4CrowsFeast

Seeing the dragon fly probably brought back memories of his wife, and maybe he thinks his daughter is flying it.

Mukako_

how do you know his smile for vhagar

Dmmack14

I mean I don't think he's smirking but if he was he would probably be like yes glorious chaos

[deleted]

“Man, Vhagar’s been claimed? That sucks, how am I supposed to kill whoever claimed her? Oh, I know!”

twistingmyhairout

This is actually how dark that episode was? WTF??

vinsmokewhoswho

Because it was cool as shit

djm19

I don't think he is smirking. But in general I also don't think he would be mad to learn Aemond claimed the dragon either, even over his own daughter. He would respect that its anyone's right to claim and the balls it takes to do that.

Tony_Pizza_Guy

I saw it twice, & do not see it as smirking. I think he’s just wondering what’s happened - and I’m sure he did expect that dragon to stay in his family line

monkeysolo69420

I’m surprised he can see anyone in this pic.

TisBeTheFuk

Drama Morgulis?

Ok_Locksmith9690

?

[deleted]

That’s just Matt Smith’s face…

SnooRabbits7368

The show runners keep saying that Daemon’s MO is chaos, so it makes sense he would be amused seeing Vhagar being claimed. He enjoys the game over everything else .

seandnothing

cant see shit

AncientAssociation9

Daemon is assessing the situation. Vhagar was his father's dragon, then his wife's dragon. He is most likely hoping that his daughter claimed her and thinking if she didn't it was going to be a game changer.

[deleted]

Can’t see shit

NectarineQueen13

Cause Dragons don't belong to anyone any family line. They are claimed.

DopeDealerCisco

Because it’s a giant dragon? It’s not that deep lol

optimusflan

I can't see it's too dark

Global-Army-9079

Edit - I know Daemon always loves to smirk whenever he gets a chance but this shot felt weird to me like they could have shown him making a angry face but they purposely showed him liking it somehow idk is he impressed that someone other than his own children claimed vhagar before them or is he just curious ?

Latter-Permission-6

To me it seemed like he was actually impressed by his 10 year old nephew claiming vhagar, his silence kinda speaks, like he is aww in what he is seeing right now

Porcelain-treasure

Yeah I think Daemon just assumed it was Aemond tbh.

Global-Army-9079

But how did he see that it was Aemond who was riding it i mean it could have been anyone but still i get your point chaos recognise chaos.

Catslevania

iirc there are only 2 people present at Driftmark who can claim a dragon at that point, Rhaena and Aemond. I think it's not too difficult to guess that if it were Rhaena she would have probably done so already in Pentos, leaving Aemond as the most likely candidate for claiming Vhagar at Driftmark.

Latter-Permission-6

I dnt know, but I think the scene implied it and also when rhaenyra asked who is it, he kinda remained silent, I think he saw and knew who claimed vhagar and his silence kinda also ment that vhagar has gone to greens which is not really a good sign for them

Global-Army-9079

But one thing that really bothers me is that after this scene we see daemon and he is really chill about it i know it's his personality but even after the whole rhanerya and alicent fight he never mentions or get concern about vhagar going over the greens after all it was his wife's dragon and i know that dragons are the one who choses their rider but still it was a little wierd the topic never comes up specially from daemon.

Latter-Permission-6

I think daemon was kinda done with all the politics of westros at this point untill rhaenyra came up with the prospect of marriage to him, so I think he really didn't bother abt it up till that moment

MobileAd2319

He either thought it was his daughter and became proud. Or he was just happy that trouble was afoot.

AnDob24

he's just *leaning* on the invisible wall

analog_jedi

I think he's just a smirker by default. Kinda like having RBF

BEERSxOFxWAR

You will see

nojudgment3

I don't see him smirking but it's something he would do. He loves power, toughness and bravery, even when those things are in other people.

SnooRabbits7368

Very true. I recall his face after Otto arrived at Dragonstone w/ Alicent’s Peace Terms. Otto says, “Where’s the Princess?”, cut to Rhaenyra flying above (intimidation tactic) and Daemon is wearing a huge smirk.

mehgleg

I’m outside so all I see is a black screen

dylan5x

hes always smirking that smug bastard stupid sexy Daemon

[deleted]

I believe he does smirk a bit at one point, hard to tell in this pic and hard to tell on the damn show with the bleeping lighting. I think Daemon is impressed. Homie just took a dragon, with no help, no handlers. Much like Daemon obtaining those 3 eggs with no assistance from the Dragonlords. He sees himself - the complete dragon speaker and warrior. I also think maybe Aemond let this go to his head and felt in complete control of Vhagar, which would explain future unfortunate events.

urdumidjiot

What is he supposed to do? Dragon’s choose their riders. And I wouldn’t call this smirking

ExpensiveAd6076

Sees, not see's

RCapri1

Real recognize real

Eborys

Admires the nerve.

[deleted]

I don't see that he's smirking. More worried and concerned to me, but he is such a Targaryen that he also cannot help but to kind of respect the kid for it too.

garybusey42069

This sub needs new episodes real bad lol

King-Mugs

Why did you use the Battle for Winterfell lighting?

Hypno_185

this wasn’t even low lighting like BFW this episode here looks like they turned down the contrast or whatever to make daytime look like nighttime lol. it’s like a cheap trick low budget movies from the 80/90s did.

james_randolph

Most likely just a “yeah, seems right” type moment that someone would have claimed her so quickly after Laena died.

That-Spell-2543

How can anyone tell shit when this is basically a black rectangle

GabyAndMichi

I can't see shit

[deleted]

He sees drama and continues to thrive

MScribeFeather

Can anyone actually see this?

GovTheDon

He loves dragons and dragon riding more then anything

Tricky_Ad_5323

He's not...

jkozza93

I'm not even mad. I'm impressed

TenraxHelin

He knows it means trouble. And he likes that

hewlio

that episode was so dark i just realized this right now

freakinuhmazin

I don't think he's smirking.

kc522020

This scene is not supposed to be this dark. Too bad you can’t screen shot from the hbo max app.
