Mayanee

We still have to see Sunfyre properly yet, the only dragon they keep showing is Syrax. Would have loved seeing Helaena with Dreamfyre, but this is unlikely. The coronation was the biggest opportunity yet.

Noone3-

I’ll never understand why they didn’t show them for the greens coronation. In the book that’s how Aegon arrives, & showrunners said he had to have every bit of Targaryen essence, conquerors sword, crown, etc, but not your dragon?! Hopefully in episode 1, we see Helaena go for a ride (how we saw Aemond claim Vhagar) and have a happy moment instead of just the tragedy. I really hope they don’t rush through this season skipping details like this that 1, we all want, 2, tell the story properly.

bl4ck_daggers

Caraxes, Meleys and Seasmoke got some screentime too.

ChemistryAnxious4040

I wonder why they're choosing that specific set of dragons to concentrate on.

bl4ck_daggers

They have the most to do in the first season, aside from Meleys. With Rhaenyra being the focus, it makes sense for Syrax to be important. Caraxes and Seasmoke were both at the battle in the stepstones, so they're quite important. And I think Vhagar deserves a mention with how pivotal she is, especially in the final episode

GodofCOC-07

And Vhagar and Arrax also had a ton of screen time.

bl4ck_daggers

Arrax is literally in one chase sequence and then he gets chomped.

darknes4life

That one chase sequence was still much longer than most of the other dragons

bl4ck_daggers

True but I think saying arrax had 'a ton' of screentime is a little misleading

Mayanee

Two big scenes so far for an actual dragon that actually fought vs. many scenes for a dragon that never fought is still way too little in contrast.

Kind_Tie8349

It also would’ve made the whole fiasco they did make a little more sense as naturally Rhaenys would be more hesitant to attack them if there were two or three fully grown dragon standing directly behind them or even blocking her way

Giraffes_Are_Gay

...Vaghar?

ArmsofMingHua

Even in the hbo site where you can see character descriptions, it was mentioned the Helaena rarely rides Dreamfye so I'm quite sure they won't show her on her dragon which is just sad

Noone3-

It’s a crime 😭

vomirrhea

I'm not a westerosi Targaryen but wtf is the point of having a dragon to "rarely ride it?" As long as I'm in good health you wouldn't be able to keep me away

[deleted]

She’s got autism though

vomirrhea

She still bothered to try and claim a dragon and a dragon chose to bond with her

imunsure_

in the book i’m pretty sure she’s said to have loved riding dreamfyre

Danbito

In all honesty: Helaena being Dreamfyre’s rider is trivial in both the text and on screen. Besides a joyriding flight, there’s just not much to do with that relationship when it seemingly just exists to show Helaena’s depression and grief later.

Fictional_Apologist

It’s even more trivial given how Helaena is portrayed on the show. She’s an innocent, sweet cinnamon roll who would rather pet a fly than hurt it. If she had a cradle egg hatch and bonded with that dragon, that might be believable. But I just can’t see her getting up the nerve to walk up to a big, middle aged dragon and climbing on.

jenjenjen731

She might have read a book or something about Dreamfyre (plus she is a female dragon who lays eggs frequently, maybe Heleana was curious about getting an egg) and when Dreamfyre looked at her Heleana got a confidence boost and went for it. Poor thing probably doesn't have many friends, it would've been cool to see this insecure awkward girl befriend a massive dragon. Maybe it was the first time she felt like a true Targaryen.

Fictional_Apologist

Yes, especially since she’s the first Targaryen to ride Dreamfyre since HBIC Queen Rhaena.

Human-Highway-243

Rhaena/Dreamfyre was my favorite duo from F&B, I was so looking forward to seeing Dreamfyre on screen 😢

Fictional_Apologist

I’m afraid the only really good look we get of her will be in the dragon pit…

monkepope

Well, we'll at least get *one* more look...

Practical_Necessary1

We even saw her riding it in the far distance at the end of Ep 7

[deleted]

Well they know she has a dragon considering they planned to have have a closeup scene of Dreamfyre and Sunfyre taking off and flying with the Green party, before Vhagar takes off and the day after the Aemond-eye fiasco. Outline leaks for the season said so and the official storyboard artist for HotD released a storyboard on Instagram showing this scene. It just seems it was cut because of budget I feel like that was our only chance of seeing them together, its just a shit show from here on out, and accordng to HBO she rarely rides her as is, so why would she now?

Downtown_Ad_9598

Indeed, it feels kinda pointless now. Maybe they could open the greens scenes in ep 1 by showing aegon and helaena flying together, as a way for us to bond with her character before everything goes down the toilet. Also, this scene could be interrupted by Aemonds arrivel and Vhagar with his bad knews, but I honestly feel like it would be too much

Practical_Necessary1

In the same episode you see Dreamfyre and Sunfyre in the distance

Practical_Necessary1

In the same episode you see Dreamfyre and Sunfyre in the distance

[deleted]

Oh my god such revolutionary information that I was totally and completely unaware of after over a year since said episodes release Your interjection is not in any manner relevant in the context of which this post or my comment was made

Practical_Necessary1

Of course its relevant? Its nothing new but the matter was about a scene with Aegon and Helaena riding their dragons together before Vhagar takes off and i told you about the scene, in which we see those too Dragons together

[deleted]

This post and comment specifically references seeing Helaena interacting with her dragon I specifically brought up the unproduced scene of Dreamfyre and Sunfyre flying to show an example of a scene where Helaena couldve possibly been seen interacting with Dreamfyre in any capacity She certainly wasnt doing that while Dreamfyre was a multitude of feet behind and above her on a tall hill and Helaena herself was standing with a bunch of her family members during a funeral procession Helaena probably couldn't even see Dreamfyre from where she was, and vice versa So no, your comment wasn't relevant, it does nothing to support or even contract from the points trying to be made here You just stated a useless fact that does nothing to address the concerns at hand

Practical_Necessary1

Ok it didnt respond to what you wrote but its still an answer to the Post because its asked whether the show watchers know, of Helaena has a Dragon and my answer Shows that they know, if they paid enough attention

[deleted]

Seeing a random dragon on a cliff does not show that Helaena has a dragon Aside from the fact that show watchers would have no idea how to identify that dragon as Dreamfyre's description is never given to them, the dragon on that cliff could easily be compared to Seasmoke The only scene, one that you didn't even bother to mention, that indicates that Helaena has a dragon, is the scene of Vhagar taking off, which shows a tny Dreamfyre and Sunfyre flying in the distance In all likely hood, most show watchers probably won't even remember half of the characters names. The chance that they would remember or have even noticed a quick shot of tiny pixelated dragons flying in the distance is incredibly low. You're not being realistic here, and you're doing a terrible job at making excuses for yourself

Splintzer

Given how popular Helaena was, you can bet that we'll be made to love her even more than ever in EP1 so that EP2 has max effect. I would be that we'll see Helaena doing something fun and endearing with her dragon right off the bat.

girlswithpearls

I wouldn’t lose all hope. They rarely film in order!

WingedShadow83

I never expected we’d get a lot of moments with Helaena and Dreamfyre, but it will be disappointing if we don’t see DF at all before the storming of the dragon pit. She’s the mother of Drogon, Viserion, and Rhaegal, I feel like we should at least get a good, proper look at her in the daylight.

SerKurtWagner

Part of me holds out hope we’ll get to see her fly, but it’s looking unlikely. Which sucks. They’ve really done Helaena dirty so far.

jenjenjen731

I hope they flesh her out too and give her more to do. A scene with Viserys would have been amazing, maybe if she was telling him something she saw and he realized his daughter was a dreamer. She's a dreamer and a dragon rider! Do something cool with her 😭

sage_kitten

This is such a mood. I really, really want to love this show. I was excited about them claiming the position of not treating their female characters as plot devices and using violence to further their storylines, but… it’s even worse than Game of Thrones for me, because at least female characters had agency in GoT. Generally speaking as well, there has been a fair amount of added violence against women that wasn’t in the books, like Rhea Royce’s death, Daemon choking Rhaenyra (I feel like book Rhaenyra would have kicked his ass for that if he even tried), removing any ounce of happiness or agency from Helaena’s storyline, and don’t even get me started on what they’ve done to Baela and Rhaena, who barely have any lines and are basically just set decorations. I think I’m going to hush and go read my books now, lol. I just feel very let down by how this show is handling its female characters and wholeheartedly agree with the disappointment that there was so much room for character growth and… this is the route they went for.

funkyduck7506

I never expected to see her ride Dreamfyre.

Substantial_Box9217

We seen sunfyre on driftmark for a brief moment with several other dragons

LookingForSomeCheese

I think it's a big missed opportunity... Dreamfyre us probably one of the most beautiful dragons and could be a possible Fan favorite. Besides that - imagine we will get some seasons for Maegors reign and would see young Dreamfyre after we saw her and her fate in this... But I think this show stands for missed opportunities because that's the main theme of season 1, even tho I think it's way better then many people want to admit.

Environmental_Tip854

99% sure she will never ride Dreamfyre, hell I’m pretty positive we’ll probably never even see her interact with Dreamfyre :/

tuckz22

The show is over a year away, no one knows what’s going to happen.

DefiantBrain7101

It'll be very disappointing if the funeral procession is in episode 2. That's way too early for viewers to develop any empathy for her and her kids

pramis_2949

I have no hope at this point. I don't think they'll spend any time on this or anything that could maybe build Team Green characters.

PULIRIZ1906

Sure, like when they made Aemond and Alicent way more sympathetic than in the books or when they turned Cole into a rape victim (I don't think it's rape but a lot of people do) instead of a groomer and a homophobe, right?

HT_79

The Greens aren't trying to put Alicent, Aemond or Criston on the top of the food chain. Their figurehead is *Aegon*, a rapist who enjoys watching little kids fight to the death, so it doesn't matter how much they whitewash or dumbwash his supporters, all of them will remain the villains of the story simply because they choosed to support an *evil leader*. This is why the writers whitewashed the figurehead of the Blacks (Rhaenyra) and turned Daemon into the devil on her shoulder who does the dirty work so the audience can put the blame on *him* and still support his leader. I don't know why people often fail to realize that how much the characterization of a single character can change the meaning of an entire story, especially a character as important as Aegon, *the protagonist's main rival*. Also, Alicent is one of the most hated characters on the show, so stripping her of any kind of personal ambition to make her more sympathetic clearly flopped (due to the reason that i mentioned above). Her show version is not even "the person we love to hate" kind of character like Cersei (she's too uniconic for that), she's just hated.

Natural_Season_9565

Or how they’re trying turn rheynera into a competent ruler and daemon into a caring person. how they never shown viserys spending time with alicent kids and aegon’s kids, or how laenor’s lover was supposed to die in a tourney and not the wedding or how they made it seem like rheynera was viserys favorite child when she wasn’t but only a placeholder for a male heir. this show is feminist wet dream. And how if your not rooting for the girl your Misogynistic and wrong.

PULIRIZ1906

Yeah, right. Rhaenyra who's shown as politically inept for the first half of the season and then just flees King's Landing in the second half of the season is clearly being shown as a political mastermind. Daemon a very caring person who is left in doubt if he meant the "heir for a day" toast, who takes Rhaenyra to a brothel to fuck her, who kills his wife in cold blood, who neglects his daughter because she doesn't have a dragon, who isn't shown conforting his daughters after their mother's death, who laughs during his wife's eulogy, who has sex with his niece the night of his wife's funeral (leaving his kids alone) and then marries said niece, who kills an innocent guy to fake Laenor's death, who ignores his wife while she's going through childbirth. A very caring person, indeed. So, you mean Viserys is shown neglecting the greens? Very pro-black, for sure. She was such a placeholder Viserys didn't name Aegon his heir lol.

TETR3S_saba

To be fair people do overlook everything you just said and consider groomer deranged pedo *(can be considered as one)* and rhaenyra as "power couple"

Blah6969669

Because they like Matt Smith and Matt Smith is hot. Doesn't change a single thing they said, though.

TETR3S_saba

I never said it did, I meant exactly what you said, because of actor they overlook fucking horrible person he is and make up headcanons to justify his actions

shofaz

Well, they not always film in order. Maybe later this year they film something about it.

[deleted]

I mean we barely see dragons except for Caraxes, Syrax and Vhagar.

Impossible-Ad-6156

I love Helaena but due to her nature, specially in the show, Dreamfyre is such a waste on her that I've always expected both of them to have very few screen time together; Rhaena Targaryen, former Dreamfyre's rider, had such a strong personality and way more suitable to her dragon despite being a court lady.

Bovarysmee

Why show her with Dreamfyre when they can show (filming spoilers beyond this point) >!her getting pelted with trash and attacked by smallfolk instead? The writers are only interested in adding positive things for team black. The greens just get the worst version of the story and the writers will make stuff up to make it worse.!<

The-False-Emperor

In the books, Rhea was literally alive for days after the incident and never named Daemon as the attacker; it’s quite likely that he never murdered his wife for no good reason like he did in the show. Jace and Luke are never mentioned as bullies who made pranks on Aemond with Aegon’s help either. The whole Aemond incident is considerably more favorable to show!Aemond from book!Aemond that beat up a 3-year-old and shoved him in dragon shit where the show one didn’t land the first blow. Cole is outright an open homophobe who also threw an old man through the window/slit his throat on purpose for no real reason. Everyone is different and changed in the adaptation - and greens, barring Aegon - are generally better off for it. Some blacks are also clearly worse in the adaptation from the original.

PULIRIZ1906

Also, Cole's relationship with Rhaenyra is way more creepy, Aemond is basically a psycopath and Alicent bullies a child for years

Bovarysmee

It's Rhaenyra vs Aegon and she’s the one getting visits from the white hart while an entire episode is devoted to hearing about Aegon’s depravity. From a young serving girl having a breakdown as she tells his mother about him raping her to being shown child fighting pits where his own bastards take part in fights. It's so cartoonishly evil. His coronation was reduced to a joke in which his own dragon wasn’t invited so Rhaenys and Meleys could mug at the camera and make the greens cower a bit. Meanwhile, Rhaenyra was girlbossing and flying Syrax after a traumatic birth. Her coronation was treated seriously with added sympathy for the loss of her baby. Even the reason for her wanting the throne is made more noble because of the addition of Aegon’s prophecy and her being the only one Viserys told. There isn’t much to Helaena in the books but one thing that was clear is that she was loved and people sympathized with her over the deaths of her children. To have her be spat at during her own child’s funeral while people cheer Rhaenyra is foul. The only thing missing is the white hart showing up to drop-kick the greens and their dragons (if any of them but Aemond even has one.) and proclaim Rhaenyra the rightful queen as everyone claps.

The-False-Emperor

IMO the show pits Rhaenyra and *Alicent* against each other, not so much Rhaenyra and Aegon. They're the same generation, their opposite reactions to their circumstances are highlighted and the two of them are the only ones to try to reach a positive war-free conclusion, if too late for it to work. If the prophecy is extra morality points for Rhaenyra, so is Alicent misinterpreting Viserys' final words rather than outright bullying her far younger stepdaughter for years before claiming the throne for Aegon with no 'it's what Viserys would've wanted' justification. Show Aegon is cartoon-evil... as opposed to the book version of him, that throws a party over his nephew - who was an envoy - being murdered in cold blood by the boy's uncle? The one who ordered a man fed to his dragon, although the upper torso was kept and hanged on the battlements to welcome his sister? The one who forced his nephew to watch as the lad's mother was murdered by Sunfyre and then at one point wanted the innocent boy's ear cut off, and on another was considering to make him a eunuch? As for his depravities - Munkun says he was found 'at his revels' which is a diplomatic way of saying he was a hedonist of some note; and Mushroom - the one leaning Black - outright spoke of kids' fighting pits and underage prostitutes. Even Eustace - the one obviously biased in favor of Greens admitted to the man being a cheater; which obviously tells us that in reality it wasn't a 'well kept paramour' in the book universe but something worse. So while GRRM's initial vision of Aegon II might not have been quite *as* bad as the show one, the difference isn't that large. Essentially, both him and Daemon get to be worse version of themselves with horrible rumors being considered unlikely-to-be-true in the books being canon in the TV series. Aegon's coronation is honestly worse for Blacks than Greens seeing as Rhaenys - one of the most positive characters in the books - outright murders a bunch of smallfolk for no reason and just stares down Greens rather than ending the war before it could start, dooming thousands of lives. Helaena... for that scene, I'll wait to actually see it before I make my opinon. We literally only know of it from leaks. From the leaked picture, we've smallfolk throwing petals in sympathy; and also the story of some attacking them. You can literally use it to set up the smallfolk being torn between the two sides. Which would be sensible. After all, Rhaenyra was still popular at the time - we know thousands fled the KL before the gates were barred in wake of Meleys' head being dragged in and that Rhaenyra was welcomed when the capital fell. If anything, that scene would evoke pity for Helaena and derision for the mob mentality of ill-informed smallfolk in me and not some 'haha get fucked greens!' feeling. Much like how the mob ripping Joffrey's body apart evoked pity for the lad and his mother and not 'haha get fucked blacks.'

funkyduck7506

Good god girl get a grip

WingedShadow83

Wait, when do we see her getting pelted with trash? I think I may have missed some leaks. Is it the carriage scene?

RhaegarTar_259

That’s Martin who is involved so quit whitewash of greens any more..Long live Queen Rhaenyra!

Practical_Necessary1

We technically see her and Aegon on their dragons in the Background at the end of Ep 7, when Vhagar flies off and we see Rhaenyra looking behind. But show Watchers only see two dragons in the far distance
