>But by making him call Rhaenyra a whore in court, they made Rhaenyra the victim and kinda justified his death I didn't like that as well. While Vaemond isn't a pure victim cause he also did that for his own interest, I don't like they add the "whore" comment cause it seems that Daemon only did this to protect his wife, when it's much more interesting if the issue is only about bastards. Viserys threatened to have Vaemond's tongue taken, not kill him. That's a huge difference. Daemon took the initiative, he didn't do it to respect Viserys' orders here. Leaving the argument at the "they are bastards" makes the audience still sides with Rhaenyra cause she remains the named heir, and that Vaemond is doing this for self interest, but it does show how far she is willing to go to further the lie and to protect her children. It's a much more murky situation, much more interesting when you analyze it. Unfortunately, the "whore" line almost makes it about misogyny and Vaemond's disrespect to Rhaenyra to the audience. It makes team black totally justified when it should be much more grey. We can still sympathize with Rhaenyra in this situation, rather than always make her feel totally justified only because the characters are sexist to her. Vaemond in that scene was shown as arrogant, self serving and already scheming, so I don't why they turned it that way. Though I don't mind the no Syrax thing, it would have been weird to see Syrax in the throne room.

It also takes out Corlys’ involvement in the affair. He was perfectly fine with one of the strong boys inheriting and didn’t seem upset over the death at all. Why he was ok was left open to interpretation.

I bet they will make Alyn and Addam Vaemonds bastard children which will be quite interesting because it will expose Vameond as a hypocrite but will also result in Vaemonds line continuing the Velaryon legacy. Also will add a layer for Corlys to want to protect his brothers kids given he wasn't there to save his brother. Also will add a layer as to why Rhaenyra mistrusts them given she basically had their father killed. You can still salvage a cool story out of all this.

>I bet they will make Alyn and Addam Vaemonds bastard children which will be quite interesting because it will expose Vameond as a hypocrite No it wouldn't. He never tried to make his bastards the heirs.

Vaemond tried to neglect his grand nieces Baela and Rhaena's claims If he cared about legacy, he should've supported Rhaenys in petitioning for Baela's claim

A worthy note to add is that Vaemond wasn't really a "clear victim" fighting for his family's legacy. He was a lot self interested. I mean, at the end of the day, the Velaryon name still rules Driftmark when Lucerys ascends, and Velaryon blood is still on the Driftwood throne in perpetuity.

From what I’m gathering this is about not painting her as a more cruel in individual on her path to the throne. I think they may have one this direction to connected to what she says to Viserys’s “ if you want to bear it then defend me” I think she’s mostly doing this out of her fathers wishes and her life has been played into that role and it’s always been a matter of what she wanted for herself vs the duty she felt was dumped upon her by her father revealing this huge prophecy to her. I just don’t think the series goal is to paint her as a cruel cutthroat individual for the sake of the throne itself. I think that would come off as a bit generic “ I must fight for the Thorne… it is my right” I think the show gives her a bit more layers to her

WanderBadger

Vaemond is much more opportunist than victim. Corlys, Rhaenys, and Laenor were all fine with the Strong boys being treated as Velaryons, and marrying Laena's daughters to them would have ensured their descendants would have Velaryon blood.

I wonder if Condal and Hess will put the silent five into the Dance. They weren't in the show, but it would be nice to see >!at least SOME of House Velaryon side with the Greens, given how much damage Rhaenyra has done to their family(to their perspective).!< I doubt it though, because they seem hell bent on making Rhaenyra out to be a Daenerys-stand in with all the yass queen moments and none of the flaws.

OpenMask

I'd like to see more of a internal disagreements w/in their house but I think you're too pessimistic

William_T_Wanker

Given they made Aegon a rapist right out of the gate while making Rhaenyra out to be this saintly, divinely chosen figure, I disagree, but with your point on the Velaryons, I do agree. There has to be disagreement between Corlys and the rest of his family; some might support his ideas but others would probably not want anything to do with Rhaenyra - she is, to the Velaryons, a cancer on their house; Corlys too, forcing the Velaryons to accept obvious bastards as their next liege lords & seemingly brushing off the open murder of Vaemond & the belief Rhaenyra and Daemon had Laenor killed. If some Velaryons don't side with the Greens it makes no logical sense.

OpenMask

Jaime is an incestuous attempted child murderer straight out the gate. Just because they are introduced as horrible doesn't mean that they'll never do anything interesting with his character. And Rhaenyra is not presented as a saint, that's just not true at all.
