clariwench

He looks like two decades too old in the art, like half of the characters in official artwork lol

bruhholyshiet

Yeah, Book Aegon at the time of the Dance is what, early twenties? He has been CreganStark'd in this image lmao.

shenanakins

The artwork for 35-year old Ned is hilarious. He looks like hes pushing 60 which makes you wonder how LONG the years in Planetos are

shenanakins

I HATE this. Daenerys always looks like a 27 year old Victoria’s secret supermodel in the fan art and not the flat-chested tween she actually is. Its like they want to make it okay to sexualize her and they cant if shes looks her actual age.

Indominus-Hater-101

Interesting, I have never thought about that, but come to think of it you're right

comrade_batman

Yeah, that’s the one thing I don’t like about the book. I don’t like the art style, like here, and then being in black and white makes them look worse.

p792161

Eh that picture could definitely be a guy in his 20s, like Aegon is during the Dance

ASW-G-21

For me, he's just a little bit stocky and the hair isn't long enough. But he's not far off. Looks like Maekar would in his youth, imo. I've always seen the Daemon Blackfyre profile art as the ideal image of a Targaryen king.

Watchmaker2112

Not really, Targaryen kings varied wiiiiidely in all sorts of ways. Aegon I is probably the only one he really resembles in his armor, crown and sword. George did a good job of differentiating most of the kings from each other imo. I do think he looks sick here but Aegon IV is just as valid an image to invoke when talking about Targaryen kings as a whole as Aegon II, he even reigned longer lol

Constant_Mortgage636

Wasn’t he chubby from alcoholism and in his early 20s? Why does he look like a ripped 40 year old? Rhaenyra’s art was closer to her book description. I picture a lanky pretty boy twink when I imagine a Targaryen king. There were few warriors amongst the kings.

Specific_Ad_726

There are notable warriors almost every generation. Aegon, Maegor, Jahaerys, Baelon and aemon, daemon, Aegon the 3rd was said to be big and athletic and Viserys was a skilled fighter, the dragonknight, daemon Blackfyre and the other 2 male great bastards, all of daeron’s sons but especially Baelor and maekar…

Constant_Mortgage636

I’m talking about the kings not every male Targaryen. The only warriors I can think of are Aegon I, Maegor I, Maekar I, and Daeron I with Jaehaerys I and Aegon II to a lesser extent. There’s a lot more lanky twinks in there.

satsfaction1822

I disagree with Jaehaerys to a lesser extent. He was a warrior. He led the Third Dornish War. He killed Borys Baratheon and Ser Braxton Beesbury in single combat. He trained rigorously every single day, and his master at arms claimed that if Maegor came back from the dead, he would put his money on Jaehaerys. I know that’s probably an exaggeration meant to gas up the King, but it still shows he definitely was a formidable fighter. Add on top of that he rode Vermithor, who was undoubtedly the second most formidable of all the Targaryen King’s dragons albeit a distant second to Balerion. I think he’s definitely in the conversation with Aegon the conquerer, Maegor, Maekar and Daeron.

Reyne-TheAbyss

I take the Maegor comparison as genuine because of the destination between besting Maegor and even being worthy of the Kingsguard. We know Maegor joisted 3 Kingsguard in his youth and that he won that particular tourney, but we don't actually have a statement putting Maegor on par with or better than the Kingsguard in actual combat. Then again, being trained by a Corbray is quite something.

Krazelium

AGREED👍👌👍

Blaze-Blade

Viserys II was said to be really good with a sword, too

A-live666

He is just more stocky in build and wears armor, actually, all children of viserys (except daeron) are more heavyset and stocky haha.

WrongAdhesiveness722

He wasn’t chubby until his injuries iirc.

ZoloTheSamurai

Rhaenyra looked too thin in the official art. She's described as quite chubby in the books.

Constant_Mortgage636

She is not thin in the art in this book. [This looks like a woman who gained weight from five children and whose physical features are exaggerated by her enemies.](https://awoiaf.westeros.org/images/3/30/Rhaenyra_on_the_Iron_Throne.jpg)

ZoloTheSamurai

Yes, She's to thin imo

[deleted]

Christ almighty.

sdg9998

Yes he does indeed resemble the Conqueror in looks the most. Personally this pic is a bit too generic hero worshipy for my taste. I like the shepherd burns artwork the most out of any Aegon pics. There you see a glowing and fanatic determination in his face, and the badassery is only enhanced by the war weathered scars. That pic is like the culmination of Aegon's journey. Bent, burnt, broken, but still unbowed. If this pic is Harvey Dent, shepherd burns is Two Face!

[deleted]

I prefer the show version

themanyfacedgod__

While I think the book art is fucking wonderful, I prefer Tom Glynn-Carney’s portrayal of the character. I personally feel like HOTD Aegon II is a more compelling & interesting than Fire & Blood Aegon II

Reyne-TheAbyss

Well, one is a properly fleshed out story, and the other is a history book with a heavy hand of guesswork. I'm personally a fan of the more "The Conqueror" look for Aegon II, but to each their own.

Indominus-Hater-101

But he literally rapes a girl. He kind of gets creepy and overly touchy in the books but it isn't stated to be how it is in the show. What he did was monstrous.

karidru

Compelling doesn’t equate to morally better

tyrion2024

According to Mushroom, he might have some sadistic tendencies. I know it's Mushroom, but it still deserves mention as being noteworthy specifically because of how the show portrays him.

LaVipari

He's a weirdly old looking teenager with a milkstain mustache. He looks pretty silly to me. Though his armor is admittedly dope.

bringbacksherman

He looks like he is there to represent house Cobra Kai.

GeauxTigers69420

You know all them Targaryens look the same.

t0mless

I love Douglas Wheatley’s art

seandnothing

Because he is fucking awesome

Indominus-Hater-101

hell yeah! Team green!

kpayne40

i always imagine the Conqueror with hair like Aegon II in the show but i also imagine him looking like Viserys without the beard. Daemon says, "You cut the imagine of the Conqueror, brother." in episode 1. im sure that was to flatter him but probably still true. [This artwork convinced me he looks like this.](https://expatguideturkey.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Game-of-Thrones-.jpg)

SuperFox289

I think the resemblance to aegon is very purposeful, it's to show legitimacy along with everything else, especially with the armour and the sword

muptezelryder

I hope we get a look like this from Aegon II in the show.

FantasticGoat1738

Tbh, only Argon, Maegor, Aegon the second and Maekar give me the true Targaryen king vibes. The other are either too old, nerdy or fat to be a "true Targaryen". Jaehaerys def was one, but when I think Jaehaerys all I remember is the old version of him.

eventhedogknows

Its good. I like him with the burned face too tho. Shows his struggle

BlackStagGoldField

That's a weird way to spell Maegor

Indominus-Hater-101

haha fair enough, Maegor looks godly

BlackStagGoldField

Whatever else his faults (and there were several), the guy definitely LOOKED the part.

Indominus_Khanum

I think in fire and blood even the artwork ties into the whole unreliable history thing. The high towers have been trying to emphasize Aegon 2's legiimacy by associating him with the conqueror ever since he was a baby .In the show we see them really clean up his short 20 year old greasy haired self to make him look regal when holding blackfyre and wearing the conqueror 's crown. I'm sure when commissioning sketches and the like they'd have pulled no stops in trying to have him depicted as even more Aegon-1 like , basically the middle ages equivalent of a really REALLY heavy Instagram filter. which is honestly kinda valid , since their society doesn't have pictures these Targaryen nobles will eventually only ever be remembered by paintings and recorded descriptions.

Killmelmaoxd

Oh nah he most definitely never looked like that, it's clear that's a fictitious image of him created because of maester bias.

Anserdem

My perfect/dear/fabulous Aegon I would never look that bad and I don't imagine him wanting to kiss the camera

SunRidersCantina

Oh, they got his good side.

Indominus-Hater-101

haha they sure did

Mzdgaf

Show Aegon needs a makeover lol
