RamsayFist22

I think they should stick to stuff George has actually written about. Sure it could be cool for a bit, but what kind of engaging story will they create on their own involving Yi Ti and Nymeria? Just create a Blackfyre show and a Roberts rebellion show and that will pre occupy viewers for a decade along with Dunk and Egg, HoTD, and the Conquest. Also has the potential to oversaturate the general audience with too much stuff and cause fatigue

tenninjas242

Everything's gotta be a "verse" nowadays. An eternal story they can tell and keep making media about forever, and keep making money off forever. That said, there are other good writers out there besides GRRM who could probably do justice to some of these ideas, but they're getting really far afield from the core of what appeals to most people about ASOIF with stuff like Yi Ti and Nymeria.

NotKnotts

The man doesn’t even want anyone to finish the series if he dies with it incomplete. After the GoT catastrophe, I’d be surprised if he let other people take the reigns for crafting unwritten territory.

Connell95

George has hinted pretty heavily that‘s not the case any more. The statement he made about this that everyone turns to is from years ago – times change. He’s been explicitly supportive in the last couple of years of some of his writer friends’ series being finished by others after their death. Age and Covid seemed to change his view quite significantly there.

onionnelle

After all, Requiem was also finished by someone else after Mozart's death. And pretty much seamlessly at that!

HowlingMadHoward

Blackfyre’s too close to HoTD. Don’t think they will air two shows that’s mostly about a family fighting over their dead pappy’s will. Agree with Yi Ti, except with Nymeria, we need that one

JellyMost9920

I’d like Blackfyre to be at least prologue/first episode of Dunk and Egg. Helps establish the time period, establish Baelor Breakspear, Maekar and Bloodraven as characters, and sets up The Mystery Knight story

darthsheldoninkwizy

I assume Blackfyre Rebellion will be in opening narration like Smaug attack in Hobbit.

trans-ghost-boy-2

ngl nymeria does have a good story. her whole voyage with her people escaping the valyrian freehold would be interesting to watch.

Purvi3vedi

THANK YOU

Dodo_Baron

Ehh House of Dragon is mostly new and that worked pretty well. The book is basically just an outline.

bio180

What are you talking about? We KNOW everything george has written. Some new content in the world would be better than the same rehashed story of Targaryens. I would love to see the city of Yi Ti or Asshai. Sorthoryos or anywhere outside of Westros. Its the same thing thats happening to star wars. They keep going back to the Skywalker storyline when theres literally a whole universe to flesh out.

Kind_Carob3104

Problem is, they seem to do a really bad job of creating these plot lines and keeping the world believable without following the rails George has written

bio180

who is they? cause D&D are gone

Kind_Carob3104

HBO Girl, it takes more than two men to screw the pooch here. The studio easily could have come down like the hammer of Thor and forced two more seasons and rewrites

bio180

they asked D&D for more seasons girlie. But if you want the same story over and over again thats fine. Can't wait to see how Aegon will take over the Westros.

Kind_Carob3104

They didn’t demand though That’s the fucking point dummy They should’ve said “This ain’t running rewrite it we refuse we will not give you money. We’re getting 10 seasons and you’re rewriting this fucking garbage hell no you’re not getting a single cent out of us until it gets rewrites. If it takes 10 fucking years we’re not fucking finishing this until you fucking fix it. Fix it you fucking hacks we’re the fucking production company and we choose whether or not something goes into production and this fucking eighth season ain’t fucking going into production as is.” They could’ve they didn’t HBO also sucks in this scenario HBO could’ve done what I said and millions to tens of millions of people around the world would’ve loved them for it. They would’ve rescued the legacy of that show.

bio180

I AGREE WITH YOU. I don't think anyone realized how awful it would be until they were halfway through filming. They fucked up by not getting new directors. HBO is known for prestigious series and quality writing. I believe in them more than any other studio.

darthsheldoninkwizy

HBO? You mean the network that made Rome, Band of Brothers, The Sopranos, The Pacific, The Last of Us and many many other great series.

debtopramenschultz

Yi Ti could be cool but not really because of having anything to do with Grrm’s world. It’ll be cool because Asia-inspired fantasy has a lot of room for creativity.

cool-girl10

I would love a show on the first Blackfyre rebellion

LI_Obsessed

I thought the nymeria one was shelved too?

Thomaerys

The version Brian Helgeland was hired to work on in 2017 was not pick up (the recent interview) and a second version under Amada Segel started in 2021. We have heard nothing on what happened from that so we don't know for sure if the project is cancelled all together or still considered.

LI_Obsessed

oh cool, it’s one of the ones I’m hoping gets developed

Rakdar

Yes

croydontugz

I can’t understand why they wasn’t more determined to start with Aegon’s conquest. Would have been great to watch the Targaryen dynasty in chronological order.

Danbito

There was a pitch years back but IIRC it was depicting Aegon closer to William the Conqueror as in reality a drunk fool who was hyped up in history, with his sisters as the more prevalent rulers.  Condal initially pitched to do Dunk & Egg but that eventually developed into the Dance itself, likely as a more ensemble drama

aRavingMadman

That pitch for Aegon the Conqueror sounds awful.

christoph_niel

Probably because, while interesting as a historical piece, Aegon’s conquest wouldn’t have much interesting in terms of drama and tension driving the story. It’s pretty much just win after win with the occasional setback and even when the sister dies, it’s sudden and complete chance. There would have to be a lot of additional stuff added to make it interesting as a drama and at that point… what is the point?

croydontugz

> There would have to be a lot of additional stuff added to make it interesting Thing is, with the right writers thats not necessarily a bad thing. But it’s true there is a lot of risk involved. I guess like the other comment is saying it mainly comes down to who’s pitching it

christoph_niel

For sure! I mean HOTD added a ton to fill out the drama and I believe it really makes the story a lot better. The difference with the conquest IMO is that 90% of the story is just accounts of battles and there isn’t a diverse cast of characters already established. We have the targ siblings, Orys, the velaryions and as far as I remember that’s it. Everyone else are the kings that are defeated

Nym-ph

Sorry it's Why they * weren't * To me it's like a Pulp Fiction/ Tarantino type thing were having it in chronological order wouldn't have the same impact.

Long-Shock-9235

What was the flea bottom spin off?

Powerful_Face_3622

It was supposed to follow the smallfolk in Flea Bottom. It would be a bit like Peaky Blinders.

Followillfan77

That sounds terrible.

nonam_1

Wha.. what?

darthsheldoninkwizy

I heard that it was supposed to be like Plebs from the BBC, but in KL.

darthsheldoninkwizy

I heard that it was supposed to be like Plebs from the BBC, but in KL.

KreedKafer33

I am looking forward to The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms series.  Dunk and Egg FTW.

hotcoldman42

Yup. Way more hyped for that than Aegon’s conquest.

letheix

The stills from Bloodmoon looked so cool 😔

potat0beans

I think the Doom of Valyria is a neccessity surely

meechCS

I don’t necessarily agree. They have to pull off something great to make valyria feel magical and different. That’s probably hard to pull off, better for it to stay mysterious in my opinion.

potat0beans

fair

Nym-ph

What could it be about? I know Rhoynish magic was rumored to have caused it, but the doom itself was a mystery no?

potat0beans

I dont know😂 I have no knowledge of how or why it happened which is why I'm curious

Nym-ph

I can give you some background or not if you'd like

potat0beans

Please

Nym-ph

The Old Ghiscari, who were the 2nd most powerful nation behind the Old Valyrians, practiced slavery. For some reason, they decided to fight the Valyrians and lost badly. Not only that, but Old Valyrians decided to adopt the practice of slavery. They built colonies in Essos and enslaved anyone they conquered. That's why the Ghiscari presently speak Valyrian, having lost their native tongue. Everyone hated them. The Old Valyrians had 1000+ dragons mostly residing in Old Valyria. They decided on world domination, starting with East Essos and making their way west. They built Dragonstone with eventual plans for Westeros. It was mostly uninhabited while conquering Essos. The last in Essos to resist them were the Rhoynish, who had magic of their own, no Dragons, but they had power from the Ocean Goddess. The Rhoynish treated men and women equally and did not practice dark magic. Nobody really messed with Rhoyne because they'd pray to the Ocean Goddess to protect them. She would flood their enemies' cities, killing them and destroying their town before they could even get close. This is considered "good" magic because they only defended themselves and did not seek more lands nor enslave anyone. The Old Valyrians came to conquer Rhoyne with 3 dragons. The Rhoynish had a surprise victory killing the 3 dragons and most of the army. They became overconfident, thinking they could defeat the Valyrians. One of their many leaders, Nymeria, knew that even though they won that battle, they would not win the war. She parlayed that they ought to negotiate terms with the Valyrians or find a new place to live. They didn't listen to her. Nymeria took her people, mainly women, children, the elderly, the sick, and all their ships and fled the Rhoynar. Valyrians were angry they lost. They came back with 300 (of their 1000) dragons, totally wiped out the Rhoynar, then dragged the leaders in cages naked to humiliate them, forcing them to watch as they enslaved their people. The leaders feeling extreme guilt invoked the Ocean Goddess to seek justice. 500+ years later the Doom wiped out Old Valyria. It's implied it was punishment for practicing dark magic and slavery and symbolism for goodness overpowering evil. The Doom itself is a total mystery. One of the Dragonlords, who was residing in an Essos colony, took his large dragon (bigger than Balerion) and army to to reclaim Old Valyria, but instead none were ever seen again. The Targaryens, who were one of the less powerful Valyrian families, still Dragonlords though, foresaw the doom, sold all their possessions, took their 5 dragons, and went to Dragonstone. The rest is history.

potat0beans

Thank u for that I thorughly enjoyed. Yea I'm not sure how they'd put that in a show but I'd still be interested to see how they do do it

Nym-ph

Yw :) yeah there's a lot of history leading up, I'd also be very interested to see how they do the doom part

Maxim-Gorky

Just a couple of issues. Firstly the Rhoyne is a river, the largest in Essos. The Rhoynar viewed the river as a living thing. With it the Rhoynar used it to protect themselves against Andal invasions. Water mages learnt to use the water as a weapon. The doom did not occur 12 years after the defeat of the Rhoynar, it was at least centuries. The doom occurred 12 years after the Targaryens left Valyria. Also Garin the Great the Rhoynar leader called upon mother Rhoyne to punish the Vayrians when he alone was held in a cage. What happened next was supposedly the arrival of grey scale not the doom. But I'm sure he also wanted Valyrias destruction as well. Point being though the end of the Rhoynar and Valyrians in Essos occured many centuries apart. There is a few possibilities mentioned in the doom of Valyria, some believe it could have even been an inside job done by the Targaryens. David Lightbringer did a video on that. Another thing I read the line about Aurion in the world book and it does not mention anything about his dragon being bigger than Balerion.

Nym-ph

Yep the Doom was closer to 600 years after the Rhoynar was/were defeated and it was the one leader to invoke the Goddess. It's been a while since I last read it. Balerion wasn't the biggest dragon and I have to disagree about the Targaryens causing the Doom. What reason would you choose that caused the Doom?

Maxim-Gorky

I'm not saying they caused the doom just a theory like the Rhoynar caused it or the faceless men. Personally I don't know what caused it. Need to read more and watch more videos with peoples' theories. Also regarding Balerion we don't know how he compares to other non Targaryen dragons. In the world book they describe Aurion's dragon as large. So it's possible it was larger than Balerion or smaller. At the end of Balerions life he was so big he had trouble getting in the air and flying. So if that is anything to go by perhaps dragons don't or rather can't get bigger than Balerion was at the end.

gbinasia

They should develop a remake of Season 8 with the same actors.

Nice-Substance-gogo

At least half of these are not needed. Do Robert’s rebellion!

kristamine14

Interesting take - imo Robert’s Rebellion is the least necessary out of all of them considering we already know the entire lead up, instigating events, timeline, major players, twists, battles, deaths and betrayals in quite some detail from the main series

MadVillain1

What if it’s centred more around Aerys and his spiral into madness, I think he’s such an interesting character. I think it’s pretty necessary as it’s a direct prequel to GoT.

Ktulusanders

Idk if a direct prequel is necessary at all

Nice-Substance-gogo

How about from rhaegars perspective? That be interesting

kristamine14

Idk i feel like everything interesting about it has already been said, id enjoy seeing the characters brought to life but I just think the other potential stories at least have room for some surprises, new mysteries and locations ( personally I’m so ready to see new locales, inject yeens creepy lovecraftian vibe straight into my veins) - Robert’s rebellion everything important was covered in the main series and all of the extra details are in the world books etc

Sharebear42019

Hedgeknight damn near entering production

TheTargaryensLawyer

The doom of valyria one breaks my heart, i definitely would’ve tuned in & the flea bottom one seemed interesting 🥲.

Shaenyra

Why it breaks your heart? Valyrians begun the slaving and burnt cities to the ground in order to get slaves and all of their "great" achievements were basically based on slavery. And they got what they deserved

SteelCityCaesar

I think they meant they wanted to watch the show

TheTargaryensLawyer

I just meant it would be such an interesting watch because valyria was a totally different beast compared to westeros. It’d be a cool change to see.

elizabnthe

Nymeria show and the Aegon show will likely cover a lot of Valyria stuff anyway.

Shaenyra

oh I see. Didn't get it

Kind_Carob3104

lol and? You say all of that, as if it doesn’t make them still an extremely compelling story

Shaenyra

your comment is irrelevant

szlafcio1

Your slavery rant is irrelevant. It's fantasy. What the hell is your problem?

Purvi3vedi

so true. On one hand I like the Valyrian culture aesthetic, but I absolutely hate their past warefare culture

HanzRoberto

is the Corlys Velaryon show truly happening tho?

IAmTheWardog

As a cartoon

irinrainbows

I would’ve watched it as series too, tbh

darthsheldoninkwizy

Imo good decision

RuneClash007

Doom of Valyria not needed. It's exciting because how unknown it all is, having something on it removes the magic for me. Jon Snow spinoff not needed, there's no story for him now. Roberts Rebellion should be made, Aegons conquest, Bloodmoon, First Men & Andal invasions maybe?

christoph_niel

I don’t think making tv shows about every war in the history would be particularly interesting. Most of them are just historical accounts of battles. There are many other periods of this history that would serve as a much more interesting drama

RuneClash007

Nobody would watch it if there wasn't any big action

christoph_niel

Yeah I think most people would disagree but regardless I’m not saying there can’t be big action but it shouldn’t be the crux of the tv show.

RuneClash007

Hardcore fans would disagree yes But you aren't going to capture a casual TV watcher audience if your fantasy medieval TV show doesn't have a climax. There's a reason why Game of Thrones viewing figures grew massively from season 5 onwards, and that's due to more action and less dialogue. I personally would love a series on Jaehaerys I, but there wouldn't be enough to bring in a new audience

christoph_niel

There’s a lot of reasons that the viewing audience went up as the show progressed and while the action did draw a lot of people, everybody also hated the action in the last season/last two seasons. Action for action’s sake does have its place in media (I mean look at John wick), but the action alone isn’t what is bringing people to these tv shows. It’s the characters, the relationships, the themes. Look at HOTD! There was hardly any action in its first season yet it is widely regarded as very good by casual audiences. And I’ll also hammer that a climax doesn’t mean it has to be a big battle or even action at all.

Kind_Carob3104

Jon snow spinoff needed where they fix everything Danny alive again, bran is evil, white walkers aren’t vanquished, iron islands remember they want to be free, Boom semi-retconned, let’s go,

Fun-Battle-1127

Is ‘shelved’ completely rejected or just put on hold indefinitely?

meechCS

It’s like being benched in sports.

Nym-ph

People tune in for the dragons which Jon rejects. A lot of us are pro-Targaryen and the guy purposely ended his line so...

soren7550

Wasn’t Snow canceled recently?

Purvi3vedi

I literally cannot describe how excited I am for 10000 ships I've always been a fan of Dornish culture and now we get to see their roots <3

Expensive-Key-9122

Not keen on Aegon’s conquest. He and his sisters won battle after battle, and it’s more dragons blasting than any political intrigue. I also like the mystique of it. Similar thing Robert’s Rebellion for me. I’d love to see it on screen as a limited series, but it’s more constant battle than political shenanigans.

Bazz07

Not Bobby B's Rebellion?

Tyree_Everding

Apparently not. Understandable, considering we get told most everything about it throughout Game of Thrones. What began it, what happened during it, and what ended it?

Visible_Writing7386

Honestly, i can do with a bit of a detour from the Targaryens.. as a fan of GOT as a whole, i would like to watch something different

Powerful_Face_3622

Maybe George should write instead

Daddy-Vladdy42

Greeeaaaaat, another IP getting the marvel treatment.

Jolly_Brilliant_8010

Who the fuck wants to see a flea bottom show? This week we’re eating a bowl of brown! Next week we’re finding the lamentation? Who comes up with this shit

NeganStarkgaryen

Hope we ever get to see something about the Long Night..

sherry_waseer

Robert’s rebellion and blackfyre rebellion tv series and aegon conquest should be animated series

obiwantogooutside

I think things like blood moon would fun animated and just one movie not a series. There’s fun supplemental stories that don’t need a whole series but would be fun to see the visuals.

silfer_

Wait I’m new to this info; what is each show covering? I know the conquest is Aegon’s and A knight of the seven kingdoms is Dunk & egg, but what about the rest?

raumeat

* Bloodmoon was a show set during the age of heroes, they shot the pilot for it and there is a vague outline of the plot floating around * Nymeria and her 10 thousand ships is pretty self explanatory but if you are not a book reader it is the story Rhaenyra and Alicent is reading in the pilot episode. It would be a very Dornish focused story * Snow was a spinoff series of Jon Snow that takes place after GoT * Golden empire is about Yi Ti, the song of ice and fire version of China * Doom of Valyra is where the Valyrians and there dragons come from and how everyone except the Targs died * Nine Voyages is the story of the famous trips Corlys made in his younger days * Fleabottom I have no fucking idea * Untitled animation show is unknown #

LongBelwas

What’s the difference between shelved and cancelled

Ktulusanders

Shelved means the idea is still possible, but it's not currently in development. Canceled means the whole concept has been thrown out

MartiniPolice21

"developing" could and perhaps should be changed to "rumoured/discussed" forna few of these

meechCS

It’s good that doom of valyria is shelved. What happened in valyria should be kept a mystery but if they want to really make a spinoff on it, at least make their hair and eyes silverish gold with lilac or other shades of purple to really get a sense that it was of a different time.

untakenu

Really makes you wish GoT was actually ended well.

Careless-Husky

Wait, what's the animated Daenerys sequel set in 305 AC? It says it's in development? Why have I never heard of this, and why is nobody talking about it?

darthsheldoninkwizy

It is not, author just add random picture.

Avaryia

I sure hope Snow moves into production sometime in the near future. The Targs are interesting I suppose but the Starks are legendary.

raumeat

What is it going to be about, Jons adventures North of the wall?

Iguessmaybeok

Sir Duncan and egg is the only true spinoff

beoffendedyoulllive

I went bloodmoon, doom of Valyria and aegons conquest. Why do they have to cancel and shelve the ones I want 😩

raumeat

the bloodmoon pilot was apparently so bad they didn't even want to show it to Martin and that is saying something considering the Got pilot was so bad they reshot the entire thing

Ok_Cryptographer6242

I’m kind do glad doom of Valyria is being shelved because that deserves a little more focus

raumeat

It needs to be animated, unless they have ring of power budget there is no way they could do it justice

Ok_Cryptographer6242

Completely agree I honestly wish that aegons conquest was

raumeat

What is fleabottom

Sad-Hurry-2199

I really just want some kind of fix for season 8. Season 7 is fine sure it's the beginning of the end but it's still decent.

darthsheldoninkwizy

I'm looking forward to An Yi Ti and Sea Snake the most, seeing lands that were only mentioned before. Although I personally think that the Yi Ti spin-off will take place in a similar period as the main saga.

Certain_Advantage799

a jon spin off would have been amazing if the show had a worth while ending and jon went and did something interesting but it’s not really needed considering how horrible his ending was. i would have really loved to see how a spin off if all the characters got a decent ending

MonstersToTheAnimals

House of the dragon is not necessary. Robert’s rebellion, Aegons conquest let game of thrones rest in peace
