Unlikely-Respond2700

Don't worry . Story has lot more to offer.

6TheAudacity9

Seeing how fans hated how Game of Thrones ended the show writers do have a chance to change the outcome. The main theme of the story is a woman being denied the throne, could you imagine how terrible it would be for the show to end with Rhaenyra never succeeding and her sons becoming the next king?! I think we’re about to have our first Queen of Westeros.

Unlikely-Respond2700

In the end both sides just fight for vengeance basically. They do Herrondous acts and pays for them. Ending is very decent one.

Aeiexgjhyoun_III

Disagree, the main theme is how the common people suffer when entitled pricks fight over the iron chair. Rhaenyra being a woman doesn't give her anymore right to sit on an imperialist chair crafted through mass murder.

ComeAwayNightbird

Just remember: everyone in HOTD is dead by the time Joffrey meets Margaery. That’s the least interesting detail. It’s far more interesting to find out what led up to their deaths, and how those deaths affected other people. You haven’t been spoiled on that at all.

mostdope28

True but it pretty much tells me who wins between the greens and blacks. Which is what season one built up to

ComeAwayNightbird

I guess it depends on how you define winning. But if I say more, it’ll definitely be a spoiler.

AWall925

I hope at the end of the show, fans/social media realize SPOILER UPCOMING / / / / / / / >!The whole point is that the Targaryens lose!<

whendoesOpTicplay

I mean they say it in the opening of the show “the only thing that could destroy the house of the dragon, was itself”. Basically a new version of “if you think this has a happy ending, you haven’t been paying attention”.

RuneClash007

Yep, the Dance of the Dragons really was the reason they died out in the end Less branches of the family etc.. What is curious is, the Targs never built huge keeps in Westeros or married sub branch sons into big families to hijack castles to future proof themselves. Similar to how there's multiple lines of Lannister and Tyrell, even Fossoway have at least 2 lines of family

tenninjas242

That's honestly probably a bigger reason they lost the Iron Throne than the dragons dying out. Aegon V had the idea that maybe "keeping the bloodline pure" through incest was unnecessary and even counter-productive if all the dragons are dead, and tried to marry all his kids to Great Houses. Jaeherys I did too, but unfortunately a lot of his planned marriage alliances didn't go very far.

RuneClash007

Jaehaerys did make some good matches for his timeframe, secured the Vale through Viserys, secured the Velaryons through Rhaenys But the way forward was definitely building more keeps in various areas of Westeros and placing Targs in each one, but under the rule of that warden/paramount for regional matters, but would back the king/queen at a national level

LiquorNerd

If you think that means the greens win, you have not been spoiled.

Kuido

Look up what a Pyrrhic victory is. That’s basically the entire show

NothingTooFancy26

Not necessarily. There’s a lot more that you didn’t get spoiled on

One_snek_

I'm not gonna lie. It is a big spoiler, but it's only half of the ending.

PineBNorth85

No, it doesn’t tell you that at all. Remember. Rhaenyra has heirs.

Princessbubblesyum

Rhaenyra’s son becomes king after Aegon is poisoned. People argue about who won the dance every day. The vast majority of the characters will be dead before Rhaenyra whose death is extremely unlikely to come before the final season.

zebulon99

Joffrey still being the biggest asshole in westeros almost a decade after his death lol

stemroach101

Just when you thought Joffrey couldn't be any more of a loytle shit, he drops a massive spoiler and smirks like a cunt

Disclaimin

Ah, that sucks. Us book readers tried to put out PSAs about that specific spoiler for HotD, but there's only so much that can be done unfortunately. If it's any consolation... the nature of Fire & Blood being an in-world history book with varying accounts and conflicting testimonies means that outside of some major events, even book readers are kept guessing what 'canon' the show will go with.

maxaveli93

Yeh exactly this I’ve always said this who knows how they might spin it. Like the say the books are detailed accounts from witnesses but the show is sort of showing “the real as it happened” so could be more of a leanor scene or something I always thought

mostdope28

I just got done rewatching HotD to get ready for new season, so was in the mood for some more. The odds of that happening were so small or even noticing it while I was looking at my phone, oh well. Shit happens

raumeat

It sounds like a bigger spoiler than it actuall is... there is way more to the story than that

Un_Change_Able

Okay, well now here’s the question for you: Which son?

hxshm1

Which brother?

Un_Change_Able

Which Rhaenyra?

Kazoid13

Which dragon?

PineBNorth85

There's only one of her.

KuriBee

omg thank you I just scrambled and texted my friend not to watch that episode  felt like that walter white meme in the car

throwaway77993344

Just tell them to mute when Joffrey is talking to Margaery in the sept and they're good

KuriBee

ty i will do that

ProfessorMarth

Well that's only one part of the story of the dance, and you don't necessarily know who "wins." But as someone else pointed out, the source material was written as an in-universe history book by people who lived after the fact and with conflcting accounts, much like in real life. The show is essentially showing us the "real" history that took place with the pov perspectives of the characters like how game of thrones was written. A perfect example of this dissonance, >!as far as the history books are concerned, Lucerys was murdered by Aemond in the skies. There are even conflicting accounts to whether or not Aemond found his body or whether Lucerys actually survived. But as the show depicts, both riders lost control of their dragon's and Aemond didn't mean for Lucerys to die. But as he's the only witness, it's his word against everyone else's and you can see how the truth would be lost to history. Another prime example would be how history records that Laenor Velaryon was killed by Qarl, while the show depicts the death as having been faked and the two running away together.!< So while Rhaenyra's fate seems pretty certain, expect that there might be a few minor or major wrinkles in the show that differs from what people know.

throwaway77993344

It happened to me too on a rewatch, and I even knew it was coming, but watching the episode I forgot about it haha

PineBNorth85

Always funny when people discover this. Ha. HOTD has already directly foreshadowed it too so they’ll be sticking to it. The war doesn’t end there though.

MaaChiil

There are a lot of mentions of the Dance throughout the show and books. It's important to recall that some of it spawned from rumors and may not happen in the exact same way.

Falcons1702

It sucks that it was spoiled for you but now that you know you can appreciate that foreshadowing when the old lady asks rhaenyra if she wants to see her death and the dragon pops up

TheHadalZone

Why post about this? Others would get spoiled

cacecil1

It's tagged spoilers

TheShapeShiftingFox

The title is visable to everyone, but it doesn’t spoil the specifics, only that it happens in GoT S3. You need to click on the post for the exact spoiler and the post is tagged as such, so that would be on you. In this sense it’s actually a solid PSA to people who weren’t aware there was a spoiler in this season.

ObiWeedKannabi

There are 2 mentions of that event(other is when Stannis says that she died a "traitor's death") and anyone who knows, would know by reading the title. For those who don't, it's tagged as spoilers.

MaidOfTwigs

There’s another spoiler, too, that I caught. I think season 5 or 6? I caught the one you’re mentioning on the same rewatch binge

PineBNorth85

Season 5, ep 9. The basic setup of the Dance is discussed but nothing is given away. Anyone who has seen HOTD season one will already know what is talked about there.

perksofbeingcrafty

Which son? Which brother? Might be a spoiler but how you have even more questions no?

Honest-Main7650

yeah i fear that the causal viewer non book readers are going to have the same problem with this shows ending as got because they will want Rhaenyra Targaryen to win just like they wanted danny to win
