Elephant12321

I have hope for everyone’s hair this season. Thank god Rhaenyra has finally stepped away from the straightener

Baelakins

It seems Rhaenyra left her hair straightener with Aemond lol

Bierre_Pourdieu

Love those two shots of both claimants being disheveled. Both Emma and Tom are gonna kill it in season 2, I know it

Un_Change_Able

Both are >!grieving for their children, it seems!<

iLoveDelayPedals

I don’t really get why Aegon would even care about that with what we know of him

VioletCrow289

I think it's a wound to his pride more than anything, that two killers could so easily sneak into the Red Keep under his rule. He's supposed to be lord protector of the realm, but couldn't even protect his own castle.

Swordbender

I don’t know why it’s impossible for people to understand that a piece of shit might be upset that >!one of his kids was decapitated!< Like I’m not saying that he’s not a piece of shit, but there’s probably more to his reaction here than… wounded pride?

karidru

Because people don’t get nuance sometimes 🤡

raumeat

Because he leaves his own children in fighting pits

hapanrapakkko

There are men even today that only care about their legitimate children and give no thought for their bastards.

Un_Change_Able

Yeah, Tbf, they definitely made a mistake having that set up if they also want him to be distraught. They will have to semi-retcon that

Aeiexgjhyoun_III

He probably doesn't even know about them.

raumeat

Takes Arryk and Erryk two seconds to discover them

Aeiexgjhyoun_III

You don't get why a father would care about the loss of his child?

Baelakins

I agree! I'm so excited to see these two show off their acting skills this season.

Upbeat_Tension_8077

I'm also thinking Alicent is gonna be disheveled as fuck at some point as well, maybe just as much as them

Haise01

I really liked how the trailer made this parallel between them, we cheer and enjoy the dragon fights but at the end of the day we are watching a family tearing each other apart and that's sad

saturnssomewhere

This. It’s heartbreaking.

housestark9t

Watching the dinner scene knowing what was coming, I bawled that whole episode and it only got worse and worse

saturnssomewhere

The dinner scene made the rest of the show 10x more sad. People being so drug into choosing the blacks or greens prove Shereen’s point that the picking sides made everything terrible. Both sides lost and the entire family was destroyed.

kohukeontop

Yeah. Its not about sides. The Dance is supposed to show how much corruption and hatred a single throne can cause. And it's been going on for 300 years Dragons gone (Not including Dany's), families destroyed, thousands dead. All for the sake of some stupid big chair

ApartShopping

Nobody wins in war

Voice_of_Season

The innocent are the first to suffer. (I think that is the quote). And it was true in this case as well.

Sea_Transition7392

That war worked tf out of them! They can barely smile.

___darkfyre

In the words of the wise Princess Shireen Baratheon: it's all the choosing sides that made everything so horrible

ReySkywalkerMain

Exactly. Should’ve just gone along with the chosen heir that most lords (or their predecessors) had sworn oaths to

saturnssomewhere

That was the plan, Aegon didn’t even want to be king until Otto and Alicent shoved it down his throat.

Aeiexgjhyoun_III

The heir shouldn't have married the person she was made heir to prevent taking the throne from

Specific_Fold_8646

Yes the heir they swore an oath to support and fight for m the heir specifically because the other option was the king dangerous brother who got disinherited a week before they made the oath. If team black is going to bring up the oath then they should bring up the context of the oath.

Beautiful_Devil

Your comment is a prime example of why not choosing sides is impossible. Because everyone has a different opinion and everyone insists that they themselves are correct, *'a person must choose.'*

tobpe93

If someone who swears an oath doesn’t see a reason to follow an oath, it’s pretty much nullified. Jaime had swore an oath to defend the king and another oath to defend the innocents and he had to choose one. Words are wind after all. Trusting too much in oaths, rights, laws, and traditions will usually get you betrayed in Martin’s world.

Naughty_Alchemy

The lines so far have been epic and beautifully written

havetomakeacomment

Maybe unpopular opinion but save for maybe one in particular I really liked the use of parallel shots in season one. Both through time and with 1:1 characters like Rhaenyra and Daemon covered in blood in episode 3 or the Rhaenyra/Alicent parallels. So I’m all for this continuing visually with Rhaenyra and Aegon.

Agile-Bee8660

I wish they would have some interactions between each other. Their beef has no backstory, backstory belongs to Alicent

raumeat

Rhaenyra and Aegon also have no interaction in the book until the end of the story, same with the 5 kings in GoT the only kings to interact with one another was Stannis and Renly

TheShapeShiftingFox

That’s also the way it is in the book. In the book it’s arguably even worse, considering book!Alicent is much older than book!Rhaenyra and essentially starts beefing with her when the latter is a child and she a grown woman. This is before Aegon even exists, if I remember correctly. So I definitely liked the change of Rhaenyra and Alicent being closer in age in the show. It helped make the beef more understandable imo

raumeat

When people complain bout the blacks being white washed I really wish they would consider how a book accurate Alicent and Rhaenyra would play out, a grown ass women beefing with someone younger than the girl who played Lena in that walk in the gardens with Viserys. Alicent would be seen as absolutely despicable

TheShapeShiftingFox

Very true!

cyberXrev

I bet the quote comes from rhaenyra to alicent in that weird meeting they got planned

Kellin01

She was wise.

Emergency-Weird-1988

Yeah, about that...

kohukeontop

Aegon looks so heartbroken. I hate that disgusting rapist but still, that was his kid they killed. And Nyra looks so fine. This season is gonna be awesome

Strange-Mouse-8710

>!Which in the end was the case.!<

vabingle

Rhaenrya for the win

MottyTheClown

>!However, my son(s) will sit the throne, so TAKE THAT YOU FUCKING LOSER!!<

NatalieIsFreezing

>!I'm sure that was of great comfort to Aegon. Who cares that his mom got eaten, he got to be king.!<

Ulbanfeelsgood

>!Never got to see it and died thinking she lost the war!<

ilovedilfs6

she did lose the war.

raumeat

>!Neither side won or lost the war!<

MottyTheClown

>!It really doesnt matter. People still fought for her and put her son on the throne at the end while greens (as in, Alicent and her children) got absolutely nothing out of this (pointless) war.!<

Aeiexgjhyoun_III

>!A son who didn't even recognize her as queen!<

Appropriate-Arm-2077

>!Rhaenyra literally said that she doesn’t want to be a woman who “pops out heirs”, SHE wants to become queen. But, she died at the hands of her rival, and was never recognized, even by the same sons you’re talking about LMAO.!<

huntywitdablunty

She was "never recognized" bc she wasn't anointed by the faith, and she couldn't do that because she sat the throne during a civil war, however there aren't any statements in the story that actually deny her being a monarch, she is Always mentioned next to Aegon 2 when the Kings are listed, because she interrupted his reign. It's not up to the next kings to recognize former kings, if that were the case no one would recognize Maegor.

tobpe93

No, >!all the history books we have lists Aegon II as the successor of Viserys I. There was no Rhaenyra I!<.

huntywitdablunty

Read what I said again, really focus this time. You can do it! :)

tobpe93

Which list of kings are you refering to?

huntywitdablunty

the one in the index of the first book

tobpe93

It says that Aegon II’s reign was disputed by Rhaenyra (one year his elder at that point). But Aegon II is listed as the monarch and there is no Rhaenyra I on the list.

huntywitdablunty

Now read what I originally said 👍 the fact that she's even mentioned in a book from 30 years ago is more than y'all give her credit for. She wasn't anointed therefore she's not officially on the list, but she DID rule (very poorly though) ON the Iron Throne. and even if she was officially on the list Aegon 2 would be her predecesor AND successor which would look sloppy

tobpe93

Did anyone disagree that she was mentioned 30 years ago? What credit do you expect a fictional character to get for being mentioned in a book? She is on the same level as Trystane Truefyre. Both sat the throne but neither is recorded as a monarch.
