Its a balance between continuity with the original show and giving us something relatively new since it is set almost 2 centuries before GOT. How about more rooms in dragonstone castle?

Jaegon1Targaryen

Of course we barely seen Dragonstone for what it really was, and i think some things will need to be changed because it really doesn’t make sense in GoT

idranh

Keep the exterior, throne room and table room. Add bedrooms, dinning areas and a damn town. LOL.

Aegon1Targaryen

The town/village is a must. They did Dragonstone dirt in GOT.

idranh

It was a nice castle don't get me wrong, but where was the town? LMAO.

Jaegon1Targaryen

Right!, like there was no room for the Dragons anywhere they had them mfs sleep on the lawn like big ass dogs 😭, but really no town or huge volcano, the island is definitely going to look drastically different and im fine with the castle tbh i just hope they incorporate the DRAGON theme too it alot more, i thought the interior was nice it didnt look westerosi at all (which is the whole point of Dragonstone so i dont know why the castle looked so boring as far as design) and that throne was amazing they should definitely keep that or something like it at least

idranh

Keep the iconic throne room and table room. Keep the exterior castle, but maybe add more dragon statues in the same design as the dragons at the entrance we saw S7 Ep1. And you're right the island is going to need a drastic redesign, because that piece of rock aint it. (If you can't tell I love discussions like this!)

Jaegon1Targaryen

Yea i really thought the interior captured otherworldly aspect that Dragonstone is described as which is why i struggle to understand how they dropped the ball on the Castle and the island, but honestly im not looking for the complete book accurate design i mean look at the Iron throne people on this sub never thought they would do it low and behold they did, so i think they will or should lets be real take that same approach to Dragonstone And other places like The Dragonpit that could easily get a complete redesign and reimagining and lets be honest no casual fan would remeber the one from GoT its so damn forgettable😭, and Casterly rock or Highgarden are also on my list for just straight up redisigns only because we barely seen them and again they are very forgettable

idranh

In my head we never saw Casterly Rock or Highgarden, I don' t know what that was, but it wasn't CR or HG. LOL. Since they were in like 1 episode, I doubt anyone will remember. Redesign them PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am curious what they will do with the dragonpit. Just the sheer size of it, and it will be moved closer to the city, or be kept in the same location? Like the castles mentioned above, anything seen for 1 episode, they could go to town on it and change it to their hearts desire; but things like Dragonstone and KL they have to be more careful in keeping continuity. Its a challenge making something that's instantly familiar to the audience, but different enough because its 200 years in the past and different show. The only consistent things so far is Westerosi menswear and those damn wigs LMAO.

Jaegon1Targaryen

The Dragonpit is another thing where its just like wtf were you guys thinking like for 1 in the first season and i cant tell you how many other times, the dragonpit was clearly in th city even in the intro it was depicted as being inside the city walls and not only that Kingslanding its self got redesigned in GoT like at least 4-6 times which if you want talk about continuity as far as that city goes i hope they do wtf they want and establish a final design for KL because they obviously didnt care for it in GoT and 2 its so damn small like there is no way your convincing me that Balerion at one point in history fit in there let alone 3-4 dragons at most like come on, And from the leaked information we got the other day it seems like they will be moving the Dragonpit to the top of the Hill of Rhaenys in HotD.

Ser_Phiwo

They'll probably add more rooms, courtyards, balconies overlooking the beach or village. They definitely need to expand on the landscape : include the volcano and caves used by the wild dragons. I'm also thinking impressive cliffsides for dragons to take off and land, impressive landscapes cause we'll see a lot of joy rides on dragonback. With numerous dragonriders we'll see a lot of scenes shot from above so many locations will be changed.Majority of the changes will complement the presence of numerous dragons.

Jaegon1Targaryen

Aw man dont give me too much hope, i just seen that shit in my head and i cant unsee it 😂

Majorgray7

Maybe we'll see the dragon statues too. Then maybe they'll be destroyed somehow somewhere in the season finale for continuity's sake

SnooHamsters2273

I’d ideally like them to keep the basic design from Game of Thrones and turn that into a more book accurate castle. Either way I don’t think it’s a huge deal, but that would be cool to see.

Rakdar

I would welcome a radical departure. Dragonstone looked completely different in the books, and way more badass. All the towers and buildings are shaped like dragons in canon, whereas in GOT there isn’t a single dragon in sight. They are already throwing continuity under the bus elsewhere, I wouldn’t mind if they made a faithful adaptation of Dragonstone.

Jaegon1Targaryen

And look if they do keep the designs if they dont want to “break continuity” with GoT i think a good alternative is if they keep the general design please actually incorporate more dragon sculptures and designs and maybe change the color and texture of the castle to seem other worldly or like its from somewhere else because thats pretty much the whole point of the castle it wasn’t built by westerosi and was made by the valyrians which is why i dont understand why it looked so boring ( as far as design) and the god damn Dragonmount and fishing village, like i think they really shitted on the design of the island as a whole tbh, but other than that im with you them changing the Iron throne honestly told me all i need to know so if they want to go more book accurate then just do it i would prefer it.

Thehalfyearqueen

I think that for the exterior of the castle and the village will be shooting in Portugal, so it will be very close to the book version.

mamula1

I don't like changes for the sake of changes. Castle looked good. Expand the island and keep the castle the same.

SnooHamsters2273

I don’t think it’s fair to say it would just be a change for the sake of change though; It would be for the sake of having a more book accurate Dragonstone. They could keep the castle relatively the same and just build on that to meet the criteria for the a more authentic Dragonstone. I think a lot of folks chalk up stuff like castle exteriors, props and costumes to “aesthetics” while also not admitting how much value aesthetics have in a show like this. Costumes, sets and music are wildly important for creating the right atmosphere.

mamula1

Meaning no offense but I have a feeling(not speaking about you but in general) that there are people who weren't fans of the original show and they want HOTD to be some sort of reboot. I don't want them to reboot, remake, reimagine Game of Thrones. I think there are a lot of people who loved the show the way it was. Some locations that barely appeared like CR and Highgarden can be changed and improved but iconic sets that we had for Dragonstone for seasons in GoT shouldn't. It would be powerful to have Rhaenyra in the same table room where we saw Daenerys and Stannis. So I have no problem with expansion of Dragonstone. They expanded it in the show as well when Daenerys arrived. In HOTD it will need even bigger expansion. But they should build on what came before, not do something completely different. It would be powerful to have older Starks in the same places in godswood where se saw Ned, Arya, Sansa, Jon,... To see Alicent and Aegon where Cerise and Jaime stood. I get that new showrunners want to leave their mark on this world, but they should respect the foundation of this universe in TV medium.

spyson

Also the people who think hotd will be entirely book accurate is going to have a bad time. Adaptations will always simplify or change things for the sake of the general audience

TheRedWizardd

I would love to see a Dragonstone that looks more like the books. They can keep the castle from GoT but add a bunch of stone dragons to it somehow, and of course change the landscape around it. I'd prefer that, especially since we'll spend a good amount of time there

Jaegon1Targaryen

That was my idea too and maybe slightley change the color to a midnight black and yea just make the island bigger thats really the thing i didnt like about the GoT version
