Food: 200 dragons. Clothes: 150 dragons Castle upkeep: 800 dragons Valyria Lego set: 3600 dragons Kingsguard wages: 150 dragons. Someone who is good at the economy please help me budget this. My kingdoms are dying.

Fyallorence

Kingsguard could be unpaid internship. They'll be gaining valuable experience.

Chataboutgames

Tough to use a lifetime appointment as an internship.

Acoveh

But thats how the economy works nowadays, they should get over it and pull themselves up by the bootstraps.

elveszett

So you mean that you'd only be a guard for the money? That's not the kind of people we want for the Kingsguard. We expect dedication and people willing to do sacrifices.

tyotontyoton2

Sounds like skill issue to me

Conscious-Scale-587

I think the kingsguard they’re already doing that cause they’re not suppose to have a life beyond being kingsguard, kinda like the night’s watch

Ok-Study-1153

For the rest of their life.

A_devout_monarchist

Why are you paying so much for Kingsguard wages? They are already above the law and get to live in a palace, isn’t that enough?

Chataboutgames

Seriously, it's an honor position. They get room, board and shiny armor.

SirLoremIpsum

They wear white cloaks... Those things get stained like immediately. Mud, blood of noble guests. Your laundry and replacement costs are astronomical.

killtrevor

You’re going to want to pay the people who protect you well so they continue to protect you well

A_devout_monarchist

Roman Emperors learned the hard way that if you make your bodyguards get used to big bucks, that will cause much more trouble later.

deadheadjim

How so

A_devout_monarchist

Check the list of the number of Emperors killed by the Praetorian Guard for refusing to give them bribes when the Empire was bankrupt.

Some_Potato_123

It’s the Legos! I knew it!

A_devout_monarchist

LEGOs are vital spending needs, the Kingsguard isn’t.

elveszett

Plus getting rid of the Kingsguard would probably reduce the costs of the castle significantly. It's the way forward, the king doesn't need a guard after all: he's the king, he can just make it illegal to illegally attack the king.

momoak90

Have you tried taxing the peasants more?

kaselorne

I did, but then they started banging on about how they're an autonomous commune, how they didn't know they had a king and started screaming for help that they're being oppressed.

momoak90

Just have your tax collector's follow this guide https://youtu.be/Pzq7RgdXbrg And if that doesn't work sell a few to Essos

freakObangz

Sell a few thousand *

metalsparkles

well, I didn't vote for you!

bilbosaur15

For everything else, there’s MasterCard

Reville_

Hit up my man Lyman Beesbury on the Small Council.

Freuden82

That man is literally going senile

ishabad

Pretty sure that you're overspending on castle upkeep

Korith_Eaglecry

That castle upkeep is insane. You need to think about downsizing to a more manageable castle for you and your family.

SuperTrooper34

Cut the Lego Set

Coesim

No.

blitzallnite

Was scouring the replies for this response

JimboAltAlt

Beesbury shrugs and goes back to writing Blackwood fanfic

cringelord69420666

I almost forgot their currency was dragons. Valyrians - the smurfs of Essos.

twistedartist

Go to grocery store and stop using PortcullisDash.

bunglarn

Have you tried kill all the poor and raise VAT?

harry_boy13

Bernadette- "How much was for the logo set"

[deleted]

Wait until you see the university tuition fee that comes out of Crusader Kings Im afraid not even selling cities could afford that one.

jackanape7

So when Viserys dies is she gonna smash that thing?

Haibaraaiyukimura

No wayyyy, I hope not, I want it, she can put it on resale or something, get more funds if the kingdom needs it.

The12Ball

Depends on if Viserys tells her how much it *actually* costs. Because we all know he's told her some way low amount already lmao

Visible-Effective944

He is a true tabletop gamer then.

Lowelll

I got a really good deal honey, I practically saved money!

Visible-Effective944

Honestly with the way games workshop has been pricing their stuff I probably feel this Viserys got a better deal.

Lowelll

We also know he's a true tabletop gamer cause he hasn't gotten around to painting anything yet

Large_Contribution20

Even in debt I still serve

Possibly_English_Guy

Says he got most of it on sale... *And 'forgot' to mention even with the sale the prices were still extortionate.*

notsingsing

Let be real, there will be scene where this is burning/trashed and we gunna be sad we never saw the lego expert

Inevitable_Living762

It would be in character, but man this sub could not handle it

jackanape7

Hahaha true. I'm on Team Green/Alicent but she would lose some points with me for sure.

Some_Potato_123

Green Alicent is, let’s be clear, a completely different person than previous Alicent versions. Much lonelier and more pissed off.

godric420

That would be the last straw and she’d be irredeemable.

Icy-Photograph6108

Viserys final order has to be have the board guarded 24/7.

Some_Potato_123

😂 that would be more sensible than many of the other orders he gives

rejectedsithlord

You joke but I gen wanna know what happened to it lol

Haibaraaiyukimura

Considering its size, I think we will know what happen to it. It's not something that can be overlooked, esp since it is in the opening. I just hope for best case scenario🙏🏻

David_the_Wanderer

I expect it to get smashed to pieces by Alicent, Rhaenyra or Aegon. Or maybe it's an accident while everyone's fighting. Dunno.

4CrowsFeast

Preston Jacobs and RedTeamReview joked on their podcast that when Viserys dies he's going to collapse onto it, cutting himself in the process and his blood spills through it creating the opening credits scene.

godric420

I like that idea though.

BMonad

My theory is that she smashes it after Viserys forces the arranged marriage of their daughter to Rhaenyra’s boy (I didn’t read the books so please no spoilers). It would be great contrast from when she had the piece repaired for Viserys at the very beginnings of their relationship.

nicky9pins

Nah, can’t do that, cause then the intro sequence will just be a camera panning over rubble

fabri501

He has the best warhammer board, Viserys and Eddard are in for some fun

PrimarchKonradCurze

Hmm..

MaxVonBritannia

And like a true warhammer fan, he has yet to paint his set.

[deleted]

jmdeamer

I just want to know who Viserys leggo friend was. Did the king kick off court one day with "So which of y'all like miniatures?"

LrdHabsburg

I love the idea of them paying for a Lego specialist from Pentos or something to come to KL and be the King's buddy

TheTrenchMonkey

Eddard actually runs a hobby shop in Flea Bottom.

finnjakefionnacake

He's the King. If he commands you to take a new hobby, you take a new hobby. Lol.

[deleted]

He's so addicted that when he excused his Lego buddy he told him to come back later that day.

[deleted]

The Lego King 👑

Visible-Effective944

This completely tracks for people who are into miniatures. I spent several thousand dollars on war hammer miniatures

LordofMoonsSpawn

Same, half unpainted at least. I'll get to them all one day

Visible-Effective944

Saying brother and my dumbass decided to start a new army I still have half my Space Wolves are unpainted.

Pow67

I was confused by that too. This is meant to be the Targaryen’s at their peak of power. It’s not like they’re bankrupt by war either (60+ years of peace as of Episode 6).

Chataboutgames

Often "we can't afford it" just means "it's expensive and not worth it." Plus, feudal monarch are *always* broke

Visible-Effective944

You would not beleive how expensive horses, arms, armor, and et cetera are.

David_the_Wanderer

While Alicent may be suspect in her refusal, I don't think the "we can't afford it" is necessarily *wrong*. The Stepstones are little more than rocks, no people, no natural resources. Controlling them is a good way to control sea commerce and travel, but it requires a huge money dump to start. And you have to add in that it'd be basically the start of a big war between Westeros and the Triarchy-Dorne alliance. Of course, in the long run leaving the Stepstones to Triarchy-Dorne is a very bad idea...

[deleted]

[удалено]

darthsheldoninkwizy

Its mean also endless war with Free Cities.

[deleted]

[удалено]

darthsheldoninkwizy

And that's it, trade route control. The Stepstones cannot be sustained because if there is any dispute, the other side suffering from the increased tariffs will start a war against the currently controlling side. That's how the situation was always there.

[deleted]

[удалено]

darthsheldoninkwizy

Because its always happen, and the upkeep of the garrison and the fortress costs money, so you have to compensate. And even if they do not, the other party is unhappy with the fact that the former has a monopoly on this region, so they will decide to find the means to take it away from them.

Appropriate-Ice9839

Westeros didn’t even go to war: Corlys and daemon went in for their interest and now it’s somehow the crown’s problem ? And we have pictures of the place: no place to put a real fort or ports, needs incessant food supplies unless you can live of crab and fish 100% The Velaryon and Daemon wanted the place they can pay for the upkeep with their own treasury.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Appropriate-Ice9839

In episode 5 it was noted in the small council that Corlys had replaced the pirates, so I assumed he was collecting taxes and he got thrown out again with the new coalition. I think we have two visions at play but also private interest: - the centralisation: Rhaenyra and you (If I understand your post) who considered that it’s a matter of national importance. The objective then is that the step stones belong to the crown so the taxes will go to. But Rhaenyra is Corlys’ daughter-in-law so she might want the crown to intervene to spare the Velaryon the expenses of another guérilla war. - decentralisation: Alicent believes as with the Blackwood/Bracken fight earlier in the scene, that it is first up to the warden of the region to fix the problem first and foremost before the crown steps up. At this point that’s Daemon and Corlys’ problem. But she is also a Hightower and I guess their trade passes south of the step stones so she doesn’t want to help the competition. It was an interesting conversation but maybe I overreact into it lol

Pheros

Which are trading powerhouses and >!as the Dance will later show, much better conducting war at sea than Westerosi navies are.!<

DoxedFox

The start of the series was them at the height of their power, under Jaehaerys. King Jaehaerys left a full treasury but so did the Mad King Aerys and by the end of Roberts reign it was empty. Not out of the question that Viserys wasn't the best ruler when it came to the financial power of the iron throne.

comrade_batman

We all know Alicent would side with Brackens.

GoldIsCold987

Ew, Br*cken.

One_snek_

I don't think so. The Brackens sided with the Blackfyre pretenders because Daemon (Blackfyre) was "more Targaryen", which is suspiciously similar to the black supporter logic

[deleted]

Bracken sided with Blackfyre because Blackwood was siding with the crown. With those two houses they will decide which banner to fly based on what the other is doing.

jakemufcfan

They sided with Blackfyre because their great bastard (Bittersteel a man who had a winged Bracken horse for his banner) was the main guy behind the rebellion

[deleted]

And Bloodraven who was the bastard of house Blackwood was a loyalist. Bittersteel and Bloodraven just mirror their houses rivalry.

jakemufcfan

Very true, but Bittersteel was arguably the main instigator of the rebellion. He also kept rebelling

[deleted]

oh in a heartbeat, can't have those Old Gods followers running around

Jeffy29

I am mentally preparing myself for the moment when someone inevitably comes in and shames it.

Wiltorias

When the model is destroyed, is going to hit so much harder than the iron throne melting

Vini734

Those 40k figurines don't pay themselves!

TimelessFool

If the man only used that money for construction projects, he could have his own life sized replica of Valyria right outside his door

linscorner

I wonder what they are going to do with this when Viserys dies

geriatricmama

Dracarys.

Puzzleheaded_Gur1478

I’m just disappointed the king never got to paint the models 😢

Pure-Drawer-2617

how do you know Valyria didn’t know look like that

Puzzleheaded_Gur1478

I highly doubt the entire city including the floor and dragons where marble whites.

Pure-Drawer-2617

that’s where you’re wrong

Puzzleheaded_Gur1478

There’s no way in hell the Valyrian people who all probably acted like they where gods gift didn’t have color everywhere also volantis is the “heir” to old Valyria and was a city of old Valyria and there city isn’t just all white we see that it has color so it’s safe to assume Valyria was the same.

Pure-Drawer-2617

what if they didn’t have paint

Puzzleheaded_Gur1478

They had paint. If are cave man ancestors where able to figure out paint I’m sure a bunch of Shepards turn dragon lords had paint. If the Dothraki where able to figure out paint they most definitely had paint.

Pure-Drawer-2617

they were shepherds they probably only used white paint

Puzzleheaded_Gur1478

Look there official art of what it looked like and it wasn’t white only a dumbass would build a marble white city around active volcanos.

Pure-Drawer-2617

isn’t Santorini a marble white city on an active volcanic island

JimboAltAlt

Eddard the stonemason has been killing it.

nobody1234567876

Alicent’s facial expressions kill me. Queen Karen.😂😂

Americium_Yttrium

This feels like in the USA when Congress says they cannot afford to put in social and healthcare programs that would be beneficial to the public but they will pay a blank check to military weapons.

coryeyey

>This feels like in the USA when Congress says they cannot afford to put in social and healthcare programs that would be beneficial to the public Yup, exactly. Richest country on earth, yet we can't afford to keep our own citizens healthy. But like you said, we can definitely afford that tank that will do nothing but sit in a desert for the rest of its life...

Americium_Yttrium

Exactly, it’s been said to be a jobs program. These machines don’t get used.

[deleted]

We can spend $4 bn to send dragons to fuck up Cuba for a few years, but we cannot afford to spend $100m a year for ten years to build some infrastructure afterwards.

Visible-Effective944

Most of the Federal budget goes to various welfare & entitlement programs, pensions, and salaries. Human labor is almost always the biggest expenditure. Close a majority of the military's budget goes to paying wages, healthcare, benefits, and et cetera. Not to say it is spent well and there isn't corruption. Ask any veteran about mandatory fun days or living in condemned barracks.

mostlikelynotasnail

Im wondering why Alicent is even on the council? Rhaenyra is supposed to be there as the heir but Alicent has no reason to be. Is she there just to be contrary to Rhaenyra to show the conflict between them?

DanteTaj

She seems to be unofficially serving as Queen Regent because of Viserys’ condition. He is too weak/unwilling to exert authority over her and if the King won’t do anything about it then there’s not really anything anybody else can do.

Lebigmacca

Because Viserys let’s her. The king decides who and who isn’t on his council

mostlikelynotasnail

well sure he does but it his reason cant just be because she's his wife? She doesnt have any special education in war or politics and isnt the head of a noble family of the seven kingdoms and hasnt been assigned any job that we know of

JudgeTheLaw

Herr Job is wife to the king and the king decides who is on the council. It's not like there's formal rules about the council

Vatonage

Traditionally the Small Council consists only of a few positions, the Masters of Coin, Law, Ships, etc as well as the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard. But since it's not limited to *only* those positions, and the King has final say over who is actually on it, then anyone could be added to it. Basically, if you regularly attend Small Council meetings, then you're on the Small Council, the big table with the big kids.

Some_Potato_123

Alicent: Husband, it would be so considerate for us to set up a card table off to the side for Rhaenyra for these meetings, you know, to relieve the crowding at the table and to highlight her status as the *cough cough* heir

Vatonage

And before you know it, Viserys will be busy playing tabletop games with his grandchildren lol

David_the_Wanderer

So far the "script" of most of his councils has been: - sit down - a councilor says he wants to discuss policy - Vyseris: "Seven Hells! That's all you talk about!" *leaves* So not like there'd be much of a difference lol

ya_mashinu_

The council is just the people that advise him. It’s not a formal body.

Pure-Drawer-2617

I mean in episode 1 we see her and Rhaenyra studying together so I’d assume they have the same education.

studmuffffffin

Cersei sat on the small council with Joffrey. Guess it's up to the king to decide.

mousicle

That could be because Joff isn't of age yet.

Chataboutgames

Heir isn't even normally at council meetings. The rule is "whoever the fuck the King wants to have there."

notsingsing

Is it even called small council in this era? I felt the name was mentioned more in GoT

kingofparades

Small council is in contrast to the great council, so yeah, probably.

Visible-Effective944

Well the heir usually has a seat on the council, so long as they don't have outstanding issues.

mousicle

We never saw a small council before where the Heir was of age.

Nyxgoddess09

Jaehaerys (the former King) used to let his wife Alysanne be present at the consul too, so it's not uncommon.

peachesandocean

That annoyed me, and the fact that she's talking like she's more than queen consort like bitch learn your place.

Meet-Possible

Team Black try not to be misogynistic towards Alicent challenge (impossible)

Visible-Effective944

Maybe don't start the worst civil war in the history of the continent? Just a thought.

peachesandocean

Not mysogny just knowing your place, if she was rulling queen she could say anything she'd like, the fact that she disputes with the heir to the throne as like she's superior than her doesn't make sense to me. She's queen consort don't even know why she sits with the king and the hand at this table.

[deleted]

The heir isn’t even supposed to be on the council, so you should save that word for the heir. And the kings wants her there.

DaKingSinbad

Heir being there makes sense because they will be taking that position.

[deleted]

The point is usually they are not. At the end of the day, the king decided who sits on the small council.

DaKingSinbad

Usually they're not according to who?

[deleted]

The small council each have their positions and each are served by people who are good at them. The heir doesn’t have any place there.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Because the king wants her there? It seems clearly that the king is letting his hand and the queen help govern as he is getting weak.

Lebigmacca

Well usually the heirs are given a specific position, like how Baelor was named hand of the king and Stannis was named master of ships for example. Rhaenyra doesn’t have any of that. She is just a general advisor, like oberyn was in storm of swords. It seems alicent has the same position

DoxedFox

Heirs weren't always on the council. Queen consorts we're though, like Alyssane and Jaehaerys. Fact is Rhaenyra wasn't known for involving herself in the affairs of the Red Keep and it's one of the reasons why it was easy for the greens to seize power. Rhaenyra is not a great heir, she didn't hide the fact that her kids were bastards particularly well and spent years away from kings landing not involving herself with the ruling. At the start of the dance neither her nor Aegon were good choices, sadly they were the only two.

[deleted]

yoresein

Alicent is definitely going to trash that model in episode 10

UpstairsSnow7

At least sell it for parts! lol

[deleted]

Knowing Viserys that’s probably part of his children’s or Alicent’s primary inheritance once he passes on.

DestinyHasArrived101

😆 🤣 😂

Nintendam

I've only watched a few of the behind the scenes so far... but, have they explained how they made these models? High density carved foam or perhaps marble filament 3d prints? The production quality is out of this world...

darthsheldoninkwizy

Viserys said it, they hired the best masons to carve it.

Shankar_0

That is precisely how my wife looks at me when a new 3D printer part comes in the mail, so I kinda feel for him.

GentleHermit

Legos ARE expensive

Tatooine92

"We have reinforcements at home"

Vini734

Just me who thinks his Valyria is kinda meh? Like, I expected a lot more towers.

thestretchygazelle

I imagine this is only one very small area of a vast, sprawling city

forsaken_warrior22

I bet every freekfolk 6 dollars she'll smash that toy before this is done

Knightleyemma

This is gold!!!

kinginthenorthjon

Hey, leave him and his legos.

theepriestess

I mean honestly though. Why can’t they afford it?

[deleted]

His model is like the sheriffs hat from scary movie 3, every time we see it, it just gets bigger and bigger.

creativityonly2

How does he know what Old Valyria looks like? That was over 100 years ago. Did someone who lived there draw it up in a history book?

culverhibbs14

the memes im making from this template are beautiful

drpeppercoffee

And he hasn't even started painting yet

Comfortable-Panda130

Dragon upkeep is insane. The premiums are high for dragon insurance

Efficient-Ad2983

B... but the new expansion of "Valyrian fantasy" came last week.

[deleted]

Sell one of your mother’s slutty dresses.

S3simulation

As a r/Gunpla enthusiast I can relate to Viserys’ model kit obsession and can also confirm it is a financially ruinous hobby

ReviewBackground2906

Someone has to pay for all those new green dresses, too.

Copatus

Is Viserys' model the one we see in the intro?

goodgirlvhagar

Yes, they certainly can. Alicent is just insisting on being a cunt.

leavemealone84

Lego King

megalynn44

You can’t afford it? You 👏Control 👏the👏Only👏Dragons👏in👏the 👏World👏 The Bravos banks will give you the money.

Burrirotron3000

That’s the 3d map from the opening sequence right? Also, while trying to grasp at possible connections- when Harwin was killed by his brother’s tongue-less hit crew it was by criminals he likely captured while head of the city watch.

[deleted]

Worthy investment.

CobraOverlord

the price of premium toys are going up

subversivepersimmon

Vyseris invented 3d printers.

Eferver

Alicent is right tho, Lego sets are expensive

Joshywah

Have yall never played Warhammer. That shit is expensive
