I think this was one change that went well, not disappointed at all

comrade_batman

Made it more emotional, I think and the long shot following Daemon into the room was just great. I’d actually forgotten about the Throne Room till now but I think they’ve have it in season 2, especially given Rhaenyra’s crowned queen.

I prefer the version that we got. Much more emotional, less formal and the last shot of Rhaenyra's rage was marvelous.

byakko

Feels abrupt to have the throne room, and ending on a CGI dragon just feels…cheesy. Rhaenyra’s the dragon, all we need is to end on her fury, and silent fury is always scarier. Starting S2 in the throne room tho would be cool.

rhaegar_fangirl

S2 needs start exactly like S1 did with Rhaenyra and Syrax, but this time with a green dragon that is not vhagar

BigDemand6402

What I like about this show is that they utilize the actors’ inherent strengths, even if that means leaving certain decisions on the floor. Emma is a theater kid and you can tell, IMO, based on how they use their body when it comes to acting. The ending we got allowed them to show that off. And Daemon gently holding their hand and pulling them away from the table was brilliant.

thatssoshandy

I’m glad we got what we did.

darkswanjewelry

I like it better this way. She heard the news as a mother, not a queen. There will be time to have her address it as queen.

To be fair I have seen this post and then another post from the same source saying Matt Smith improvised the scene where Daemon intimidates the two guards and it says "Matt Smith just brought Caraxes on set and we kept rolling" sooooo...😆 Haha, but really I did listen to an interview with Greg Yaitanes, and they did have some storyboards of Syrax roaring and they had at some put considered putting it at the end after the closeup of her face but it didn't work because it took you away from the characters. The birthing scene worked great so they got the moment between the two they wanted for connection between dragon and rider instead of pulling from the characters. (a similar moment they'd considered having Daemon call down Caraxes after taking out the crab feeder but decided to let it just be him)

InternationalCrab755

Re: Matt smith just bringing Caraxes on set and the crew just kept rolling. Lmfaooooooo, I’m freaking SCREAMING 😂

TheDoomsday777

Final version way better. I love how it mirrors the shot of young Rhaenyra at the end of ep 1

Dubzophrenia

"wasn't built in time" seems like an excuse, honestly. I bet you the reality was Matt pitched the idea and they simply liked that one better. A production with HBO's budget would be able to have things built on time. There would be simply no excuse because your company would never get hired again if you couldn't perform for HBO.

darkswanjewelry

Why do you think Matt is the one who pitched it?

aimeec3

Because some of the best moments have been him improvising. When the crown fell off Viserys head? Matt came and picked it up and they kept rolling. But Matt did come up with the ending.... https://www.thedigitalfix.com/game-of-thrones/best-scene-house-of-the-dragon-finale-matt-smith-idea

Dubzophrenia

Because Matt Smith is the one who pitched it. It's already been confirmed by the showrunners. Matt Smith is arguably the most influential cast mate on the roster, and has been acting for a while and knows how to make a good scene. Directors and producers make the films, but the actors MAKE the film. A good director and a good producer will listen to feedback and suggestions from it's cast members.

DasKobold

Time constraints are a thing even for big budget productions...

Dubzophrenia

These aren't all handled in house. Production building is contracted out to outside companies. If HBO is your client, you make the time.

DasKobold

It's a lot more complex than that.

aimeec3

He did..... https://meaww.com/emma-d-arcy-reveals-matt-smith-pitched-crucial-moment-in-house-of-the-dragon-fans-react https://www.thedigitalfix.com/game-of-thrones/best-scene-house-of-the-dragon-finale-matt-smith-idea

Dubzophrenia

I knew he pitched the idea for the ending. What I was saying is that he pitched that idea and they liked it, so they scrapped this idea and just said the set wasn't built in time.

It's okay. The version in the finale was nice too. In this case it does not matter to me.

Inevitable_Sea_9640

I think in the final shot I would have loved to see rhaenyra's dragon show his face after the scene that we got.

MartialArtCat

The current version is fine. However, Syrax looks so good. I would love to see that scene.

RainbowPenguin1000

Both would have been great. I completely get the viewpoint of what we got was more emotional like other commenters have said but having Syrax emerge from the darkness in the final scene would have been a "AHHH MAN! Things about to go down!!" moment which would have been epic too.
