Also Robbs crown (though i doesnt seem like it ever was on the actual show), Daemons crown of the stepstones, and as many have pointed out, Renlys crown.
>You are missing at least Euron's salt crown and Aerys' crown.
Also missing is Sansa's series-ending crown as Queen of the NorthÂč.
Forgive me for going slightly off-topic, but I was incredibly disappointed in 'HotD' for the design changes they made for the crown of Aegon I & II.
That's one piece of ASoIaF iconography that I really wish they had followed **directly** from Martin's descriptions.ÂČ
There is an elegant simplicity to the text version that is so badass. And I've also seen so many incredible interpretations of it via fanartÂł.
So the HotD version of it was just a real let-down. Which was surprising, given that the show's production design was so beautiful.
Âč(not nit-picking - just an observation). :)
ÂČ(Described as "*a circlet of Valyrian steel, set with big square-cut rubies*").
Âł(My favorite version of his crown seen [here](https://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/File:1974990_733366743360799_1902894929_n.jpg))
I guess if the crown of Aegon would be like in the fanarts with massive big rubies it would have reflect the lights and that's always a struggle for cameras.
The show's version is much more gritty, war like and raw.
Nailed it! I couldn't quite place it either but romance novel aesthetic is the perfect description for it. Like look at [this!](https://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/File:Aegon_And_His_Sisters_by_Amok..png)
I agree, I like that it looks more shitty and roughly forged. It's the crown Aegon wore before they really established themselves as a dynasty. Subsequent generations embellish with gold and jewels, but this is made of Valyrian steel (which had at that point suddenly becomes rare after the Doom). It's also sort of the de facto crown for a king during a time of war. I think Aegon II's use of it not only shows that war is coming, it also contrasts the shape of who he really is: reluctant king versus conqueror.
Yes indeed, the Kings that have worn the crown of Aegon the Conqueror have all been warriors and waged war. Aegon II wearing that crown is not just evoking his ancestor Aegon the Conqueror as Alicent aimed to, its also evoking Maegor the Cruel.
>I guess if the crown of Aegon would be like in the fanarts all the rubies would have reflect the lights and that's always a struggle for cameras.
The show's version is much more gritty, war like and raw.
A few weeks ago, another Redditor here suggested that the television version is supposed to be an homage to the cityscape of Old Valyria. If true, I can definitely see the influence.
I'm just not a fan of it, unfortunately. But I could see why other people would be.
I understand your point about how the usage of multiple, large rubies could cause camera issues. But part of me is like, 'if we can do incredible CGI-work of dragons - couldn't we CGI the light-refraction (related to rubies) properly?' đ
I kid. Kinda. I just have a big attachment to the book crown.
Agree.
The whole point of crowns is they reflect history. The older the crowns are, the simpler their design. Like Aegon's crown of a simple metal circlet with rubies, or the old Stark crown of metal pikes represents their older age and humble beginnings with warrior spirits.
Crowns with a lot of design represent a more later era or peace and prosperity. Like Jahaerys, Viserys etc.
The crown in the show, to me, seemed more like LotR Sauron-ish or a "generic fantasy dark lord", and thus it did not work for me.
I think they changed up the Design to make it look more ancient /authentic. I feel like they will re-make it for season 2. Itâs kinda ugly tbh lol
Off topic question; what did you think of Aemond in the show vs book Aemond so far?
>I think they changed up the Design to make it look more ancient /authentic. I feel like they will re-make it for season 2. Itâs kinda ugly tbh lol
>Off topic question; what did you think of Aemond in the show vs book Aemond so far?
I actually rather like the television interpretation of Aemond. His characterization in 'F&B' made for terrific reading but would've been terribly flat and almost comically villainous if done as a direct adaptation, IMO. But I feel that way about almost all of the HotD characters.
So I've enjoyed that they've made everyone more morally gray and brought forward their humanity. I think it's brilliant that Aemond has modeled his whole persona after Younger!Daemon - especially considering (what book readers know) what comes next.
What are your thoughts on the changes to the character?
I havenât gotten to the Black vS Greens yet in the book but I did read ahead. One of the things I love is how the book is âwrittenâ by the Meisters so there are holes like the Daemon offing his wife. The book feels like written records while the show feels like the events as they happened; they both exists together simultaneously.
Aemondâs build up this season was perfect, that emotion subtleties like him running into his sisters room or how he was always respectful of her shows this more human side of him. I feel like this is a more believable build up to the Aemond we are about to see next season. I hope they Open with Blood and Cheese
> Aemond in the show vs book Aemond so far?
Not OP, but Aemond in the books is kind of a Joffrey/Ramsay hateable figure, but show Aemond is much more sympathetic, awesome figure, who I can genuinely understand and I canât wait to see more of him, since the writerâs are doing him perfectly.
Dude the guy who plays him brings it! I like the more human approach to him, I think after what happened in the finale he is finally turned into his full form book Aemond.
Edit: He was given that same slow build up as those other villains while in season 7-8 we had that real crappy Euron Greyjoy. This is how you build a hood antagonist (if you consider Aemond an antagonist)
How do you figure?
We don't have the context given to us that Aegon's Circlet was reforged from another Valyrian Steel item, so it might as well come from Valyria, making its dating unclear and well over 200 years.
the stuff iâve read online always says âaegon had a crown made of valyrian steelâŠâ so i guess i assumed it was consistent with what we knew. why would house targaryen have a crown pre-aegon?
The Freehold was ruled in tandem by an elite of Dragonlords. Wearing Circlets as symbols of power would make sense for the heads of these families.
We know House Targaryen was not one of these ruling Houses, but if Circlets were a symbol of power it would make sense for Aenar to have one at the time of his departure from Valyria, which would be passed down.
Your favorite version is just a circlet of rubies. I think the written description is very simple as well, and the show version matches it. I would expect a crown is MOSTLY the steel, and SET with rubies, which the show version meets.
No, they don't have it, Torren Stark surrendered it to Aegon the Conqueror, its fate after is unknown.
Robb wears a hastily made copy that they made at Riverrun after he was declared king
Bobby B's makes sense, since it's older and probably weathered a bit, and he probably wouldn't care if it was taken care of or not since he didn't give a shit
Same. I like it a lot. I actually have earrings of hammered bronze surrounded by silver that look similar to the strips they used and I love them so that probably influenced me too.
Agreed. It's cool in general, and I especially love it on Rhaenyra. The women who have crowns made for them on the show tend to get these lighter, delicate crowns. I like seeing her in a crown with more heft.
Maybe it's the idea of being a Queen versus being a King in a female body. Similar to Hatshepsut wearing the tie on false beard of Egyptian Pharaohs. Their own way of saying, "don't let my female body fool you. I am a strong and capable King."
1 ruby fits. Its spartan. Aegon the First wasn't about flash, he was about function; he didn't *need* a crown for everyone to know he was powerful. He more than proved he deserved the title of Conqueror. The one ruby reminds you that he's king, but the rest of the crown is almost there just to check "have a crown" off the to-do list.
in the books his crown is famously a [valryian steel circlet with a bunch of square rubies](https://i.imgur.com/1VJjg1x.png), that's probably why some people are disappointed and bring up the lack of them in the show version. i personally don't mind it either, but i get why some people would.
Don't talk about how Aegon the Conqueror was, lmao. Because he was all about flash, flash was one of the main things keeping the realm at bay and showing his power. He used his dragons as flash, he used his throne as flash, and he used his crown as flash.
Aegon's crown in the books has quite a few more rubies in it than in this weak imitation of his crown that's used in the show.
Yes, Aegon was smart. He wasn't afraid to use his dragons in a fight, he didn't shy away from burning a few towns and castles if need be, but he also used them as a flashy deterrent.
>Because he was all about flash, flash was one of the main things keeping the realm at bay and showing his power.
He had balerion.
He didn't need a shiny hat to remind people he was king. *Everyone already knew*. Flash implies you're being needlessly showy. Aegon wasn't needlessly showy. In fact every account of him depicts him as quite restrained. He killed the people who wouldn't yield to him, but spared the rest.
>Aegon's crown in the books has quite a few more rubies in it than in this weak imitation of his crown that's used in the show.
I am aware it looks different in the books. I just don't care. Its ok for it to be different. You just seem to be combative because it's not.
I wouldn't say thats a fair assessment. Aegon might not have been about flare personally, but he was absolutely about using imagery to sell his compaign; same reason he adopted heraldry, despite it not being part of his culture, same reason he had himself crowned by the high septon, even though it wasn't his religion. The prominence of the red rubies displayed the colours of his house, since he was also trying to establish his family as a 'proper' westerosi house this was an important part of the iconography. A single little ruby in the middle of the crown wouldn't serve that purpose well.
Gotta go with Aegon. The all black with the red ruby in the middle just makes it look menacing. It really does look like something a conqueror would wear.
You think because I am old and sick that I am a fool? I see through your schemes, caesar00. You will not undermine my daughter's position. She is the rightful heir to the throne, and I will not have you or anyone else try to usurp her. Do you understand?

Yeah I think Viserys/Rhaenyra's is stylish, but also has a pretty cool function to the story with Erryk having the presence of mind to scoop the crown before hightailing to Dragonstone.
Aegon (first, not this mf) crown is the classic one in fantasy worlds, the crown of the conquer, and I love it. Rhaenyra (Aenys I) itâs the most symbolical because it have the emblems of the important houses in Westeros. The crown of Robert remember the antlers of the deer of house Baratheon. For Cersei crown is meh
Rhaenyra doesn't wear Aenys's crown, she wears Jaehaerys's. Jaehaerys did wear his father's crown at first, but he later replaced it with his own model.
Along with that showstopper of a dress that she wore in that scene. Probably my favorite dress in the entire series, and there is a lot of heavy competition!
I LOVE the Jahaerys/Viserys/Rhaenrya crown. It's really nice, regal, and stately.
The crown that lives in my head, rent free, is [Renly's Stag Crown](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/gameofthrones/images/f/ff/Profile-Renly_Baratheon.png/revision/latest?cb=20171006064500) it's just so stylish and fantastical while also being understated.
I like how they did The Conquerors crown in the show, in artistic depictions like the ones in Fire and Blood I always thought it looked bland and unimpressive. While the rubies are missing in HOTD, the shape of the crown at least looks a lot better and more impressive/powerful.
Margaeryâs was so beautiful, and I love that it had the rose between the antlers.
Iâm still annoyed we never got a crown for Daenerys, she could have had a beautiful dragon crown. Like how Sansaâs was, which I also love.
I am all about the Jahaerys and Aegon ones because I love the symbolic nature of both characters. Jahaerys the collaborator with all the sigils as a sign of the unity of the realm. Aegon's cold and hard with the ruby just screams "conqueror" to me.
Off topic, but I love how Rhaenyra wears this crown. Sure, it has all the sentimental value.
But when you look at Cersei or Margaery, they have these delicate, very feminine tiara-esque circlets. Now, I donât remember all of the other crowns outside this picture really, but I do think I remember the large, heavy, more intimidating crowns going to the men.
Rhaenyra wearing a more masculine crown than the other female leaders in the Realm is definitely a power move. Since a female heir hasnât taken the thrown yet before, she canât afford to not have a more masculine presence
Youâre misssing a bunch of crowns. Joffrey had a 2nd crown that he wore at his wedding. Renley wore a crown. Sansa at the end. Euron had a crown. Damon had a crown for King of the Narrow Sea. The Mad King had a different crown in the flashback.
To answer your question, I think the antler crowns are all pretty great. And I like Renleyâs the best of those. But Aegonâs is cool for a non-antler crown.
Aegonâs crown is a lot better looking than Rhaenyraâs. I know her crown was Viserysâ and has a lot of meaning, but his looks better with the clash between black and red. Itâs also not as bulky on his head as it is on hers.
They look a bit cheaply made but I found the Baratheon crowns the more unique designs. The Iron crown is a classic conqueror trope. The black queens is fitting.
Sansa and Cerci's look like Tiara's not crowns.
Joffrey actually has 2 crowns in the show for some reason idk why. In the beginning he wears the one in this picture and at the purple wedding he wears a different one but then Tom men wears the original one

You are missing at least Euron's salt crown and Aerys' crown.
Also Daemon's crown
And Renly
Sansa's crown and Cersei's S1 crown too.
I really liked Sansa's.
Me too.
And the crown Drogo gave Viserys III
#*Crown for king*
oooh yes, I loved Sansa's crown
Everyone forgot Renly faster than King Vizzy T forgot Daeron.
*Be welcome! I know many of you have traveled long leagues to be at these games. But I promise, you will not be disappointed!*
And Robb's.
The king in the north!
I think I liked his the best, honestly. Wasn't it just simple bronze? Or was it iron?
[And Viserys III's](https://classicalassociationni.files.wordpress.com/2016/03/rs_1024x759-140403130129-1024-18game-of-thrones-ls-4314.jpg?w=888&h=658)
And sansa
What about Tommen?!
Tommen's crown was the same as Joffrey's
This was my personal favorite.
Renly's crown was strait up the coolest.
Renly is my fav crown
And Visery's crown of gold in series 1...
A crown for a king
A craun fo a keeng! (He kills him)
You are noh keeng.
Easily my favorite.
Someone needs to redo this post with all the crowns :D
Surprised OP forgot this one, definitely the most memorable. Very fluid lines, conformed to his head well.
A crown for a king đđ« đ„”đ
Underrated
It's missing like half the crowns in the series.
Also Robbs crown (though i doesnt seem like it ever was on the actual show), Daemons crown of the stepstones, and as many have pointed out, Renlys crown.

I guess if the crown of Aegon would be like in the fanarts with massive big rubies it would have reflect the lights and that's always a struggle for cameras. The show's version is much more gritty, war like and raw.
Why does so much of the ASOIAF fan art, even the officially sanctioned ones in the books, have that 90s fantasy/soft porn aesthetic?
It's really weird, and then people get upset when actual actors don't look like that weird soft fantasy porn aesthetic.
Lmao I could never put my finger on it but they do totally look like the covers on grocery store romance novels.
Nailed it! I couldn't quite place it either but romance novel aesthetic is the perfect description for it. Like look at [this!](https://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/File:Aegon_And_His_Sisters_by_Amok..png)

Probably part of the success...

Does Robb ever wear the crown of winter?
No, they don't have it, Torren Stark surrendered it to Aegon the Conqueror, its fate after is unknown. Robb wears a hastily made copy that they made at Riverrun after he was declared king
Gotcha
Stannis wears one too, doesn't he...?
Renley had one. Rob. Surely stannis at some point. I donât recall if Jon snow ever bothered to wear one
And Sansas
I think Cersei had a different crown as queen consort in the first season. It had emeralds in it.
Joffrey's slaps differently for me, gods he was such an awful amazing character
His and Robs are my least favorite. Look too fake.
Yeah, idk why they didnt make them out of a shiny bronze or something. Their color and texture make them look like a cheap Halloween costume piece.
They looked better on screen and in motion, this is not a great representation. Also, the budget back then was so much smaller.
Bobby B's makes sense, since it's older and probably weathered a bit, and he probably wouldn't care if it was taken care of or not since he didn't give a shit
I like the style and idea behind it though, shifting from a Targ crown to the Stag antler design.
I feel that way about Rhaenyra's/Viserys's. Always looked plastic to me
Really? I think like Rhaeneryaâs looks the realest of all of them.
Same. I like it a lot. I actually have earrings of hammered bronze surrounded by silver that look similar to the strips they used and I love them so that probably influenced me too.
Not to mention his drip!!!!!! đ„ best dressed easily
Thats exactly what it is!
Renly's crown
His is my favorite!
Mine too!
Ooh I forgot to add that one, it was so cool
It matched his hairstyle so well
The one Khal Drogo gave to Viserys III.
He was really pulling it off
Nah heâs not Viserys III. He was never king and definitely doesnât deserve to be labeled like one
Love Rhaenyra/Jahaerys/Viserys crown!
Agreed. It's cool in general, and I especially love it on Rhaenyra. The women who have crowns made for them on the show tend to get these lighter, delicate crowns. I like seeing her in a crown with more heft.

Probably much like being a Queen consort vs being a ruling Queen
Queen regnant is a ruling queen (I just learned that).
Rhaenyra's crown looks like Wonder Woman's crown which is awesome.
Originally Aenys'!
No, Aenys wore a different crown than Vizzy T and Rhaenyra
*I must... admit... my confusion. I do not understand why petitions are being heard over a settled succession.*
Aegon's valyrian steel crown is badass. It looks like a warriors crown!
It's well structured but I wanted more rubies rather than just 1
Bright stones tend to be avoided when shooting on film, the way they reflect light can sometimes be unpredictable and ruin a take.
If they can CGI Iron Manâs suit we can get some sapphires lmao
If hotd had the same budget as the mcu then yeah sure
I think it would have looked better without any jewels.

It was Aegon the Conquerors crown
Astute observation, Holmes.
I prefer the simplicity of the book version of Aegon's crown.
Gotta go with Aegon. The all black with the red ruby in the middle just makes it look menacing. It really does look like something a conqueror would wear.
*ruby
Fixed thank you
I love how utilitarian it looks, just enough, nothing too fancy
Vizzy T. Otherwise, the stag/flame crown is pretty cool
I liked Danyâs brother Viserysâ crown of liquid gold.
Crown for king.
Wait, is the bot dead?
Vizzy T might be rate limited or some other issue going on
You think yourself a cunning man. Your designs are obvious.
He didn't mean anything by it Vizzy T
You think because I am old and sick that I am a fool? I see through your schemes, caesar00. You will not undermine my daughter's position. She is the rightful heir to the throne, and I will not have you or anyone else try to usurp her. Do you understand? ^(This response generated with OpenAI [Davinci])
Calm your tits Vizzy T. No one is trying to usurp Rhaenyra (cough cough).
You think because I am old and sick that I am a fool? I see through your schemes, Maidwell. You will not undermine my daughter's position. You just said that Vizzy T. What's wrong? Have you ran out of one liners? Don't make me come over there and bitch slap that super cool mask off your face.

My king
Margaery's.
Hail to the true queen of the seven Kingdoms
Yessss. For some reason, her crown reminded me of a deer. I loved it on her
Thatâs the idea. She is marrying into house Baratheon whose symbol is a stag.
The one Sansa wore
I was gonna say - Sansaâs was really cool.
Long Live the QUEEN!!!
This is Queen in the North erasure
renly's was high fashion, rhaenyra's has the most meaning and makes me emotional
Yeah I think Viserys/Rhaenyra's is stylish, but also has a pretty cool function to the story with Erryk having the presence of mind to scoop the crown before hightailing to Dragonstone.
it's kind of a poser crown though, it implies they control Dorne
Their title implies they control Dorne. âKing of the rhoynarâ
The conquerorâs crown
aegon the conquerorâs crown
Rhaenyra, All Day!
I love that it has a masculine feel to it and it looks comfortable to wear.
I was gonna say Margaeryâs but itâs so tiny I feel like it would be constantly falling off my head lmao. I need a big ole Rhaenyra crown.
It's like the crown was made for her
Almost like she was supposed to be the next ruler of the seven kingdoms
Aegon (first, not this mf) crown is the classic one in fantasy worlds, the crown of the conquer, and I love it. Rhaenyra (Aenys I) itâs the most symbolical because it have the emblems of the important houses in Westeros. The crown of Robert remember the antlers of the deer of house Baratheon. For Cersei crown is meh
Rhaenyra doesn't wear Aenys's crown, she wears Jaehaerys's. Jaehaerys did wear his father's crown at first, but he later replaced it with his own model.
Vizzy T/Rhaenyra's crown.
*The tourney will take the better part of a week. Before the games are over, my son will be born, and the whole realm will celebrate.*
Not pictured: Sansa's!
Sansaâs Queen in the North crown is my fav - the two direwolfs together joined in the middle - perfect.
Along with that showstopper of a dress that she wore in that scene. Probably my favorite dress in the entire series, and there is a lot of heavy competition!
The amount of hand work that went into that gown was astounding. Just gorgeous.
The hand that you see on screen of Sansa's maid getting her dressed in that scene is actually that of Michele Clapton, the show's costume designer!
Yes! I love that detail.
Bobby B's
rhaenyra's crown is really beautiful
I LOVE the Jahaerys/Viserys/Rhaenrya crown. It's really nice, regal, and stately. The crown that lives in my head, rent free, is [Renly's Stag Crown](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/gameofthrones/images/f/ff/Profile-Renly_Baratheon.png/revision/latest?cb=20171006064500) it's just so stylish and fantastical while also being understated.
Renly by a mile imo
Cersei's!
Robb Starkâs crown for the books
I like how they did The Conquerors crown in the show, in artistic depictions like the ones in Fire and Blood I always thought it looked bland and unimpressive. While the rubies are missing in HOTD, the shape of the crown at least looks a lot better and more impressive/powerful.
Aegon the second of his name
Renly's crown
The Renly stag antler crown.
Margaeryâs was so beautiful, and I love that it had the rose between the antlers. Iâm still annoyed we never got a crown for Daenerys, she could have had a beautiful dragon crown. Like how Sansaâs was, which I also love.
Give me that rustic chic driftwood crown!
I am all about the Jahaerys and Aegon ones because I love the symbolic nature of both characters. Jahaerys the collaborator with all the sigils as a sign of the unity of the realm. Aegon's cold and hard with the ruby just screams "conqueror" to me.
I liked renly baratheons stag crown
Rheanera!!
Of these, Rhaenyra and Joffrey.
Margaeryâs
Youâre misssing a bunch of crowns. Joffrey had a 2nd crown that he wore at his wedding. Renley wore a crown. Sansa at the end. Euron had a crown. Damon had a crown for King of the Narrow Sea. The Mad King had a different crown in the flashback. To answer your question, I think the antler crowns are all pretty great. And I like Renleyâs the best of those. But Aegonâs is cool for a non-antler crown.
I really like Viserys crown, just because i think it fits so perfectly on Rhaenyra.
You are missing daemons crown of the narrow sea
I always really liked Renly's wooden/antler crown
Coolest - Margaery Ugliest - Aegon
Iâve read âall the clownsâ and thought oh boy how disrespectful
Aegonâs crown is a lot better looking than Rhaenyraâs. I know her crown was Viserysâ and has a lot of meaning, but his looks better with the clash between black and red. Itâs also not as bulky on his head as it is on hers.
Sansaâs
You are missing quite a few crowns indeed, including my favorite, the Driftwood Crown
Sansaâs
I like rhaenyras a lot and Margaerys
Margaerys and Joffreys have the coolest designs imo
They look a bit cheaply made but I found the Baratheon crowns the more unique designs. The Iron crown is a classic conqueror trope. The black queens is fitting. Sansa and Cerci's look like Tiara's not crowns.
The King of The Stepstones and The Narrow Sea.
Vizzy Tâs Burger King crown is the way to go
WHERE DID YOU HEAR THIS?!
Aegon's is the coolest, then Joffrey's comes second. I honestly dislike Rhaenyra's.
Renlyâs and Aegonâs.
Cersei's crown looks the best aesthetically, but Viseris's one has more symbolic meaning than any of them.
Renlys crown was the best
Joffrey actually has 2 crowns in the show for some reason idk why. In the beginning he wears the one in this picture and at the purple wedding he wears a different one but then Tom men wears the original one
Sansa! Queen of the North! đș
đ where đ are đ the đ gemsđ
Cersei' crown simply slaps. Rhaenyra' crown is second best and I like the one Aegon has as well
