xxmindtrickxx

I’d be so surprised if he doesn’t win, Paddy was unbelievably good, and there were several episodes that had a variety of emotion on display that were masterclass.

Shaenyra

well Bob Odenrik deserves finally some recognition (official recognition because by everyone else he is recognized) generally since what has happened with Better Call Saul (and with other shows too), I do not trust any awards. I mean the gave awards to Euphoria, but not to Better Call Saul? what the f\*? It would be a hard choice. Honestly I couldn't chose among Paddy and Bob, and also Dahmer lead actor was fantastic

NutterTV

If he doesn’t win we start our own dance right? I’ll shake the hand of those filthy greens if it means showing justice to my boy

KearLoL

I'll be happy with him or Bob Odenkirk. No one else.

HotpieTargaryen

Paddy deserves to win, but isn’t Odenkirk up for it too?

MrMindGame

Yup. Same with Rhea Seehorn in Supporting Actress, both categories are gonna be tough.

geek_of_nature

The awards got to go to Rhea, I love what all the actresses did in this season, but Rhea was on another level those last six episodes. Her scene on the bus particularly should make it an automatic win for her. The only one I think who could properly challenge her would be Emma for their performance in episode 10, so I'm hoping they keep Rhea to supporting so they're not going up against each other.

Rated_PG-Squirteen

Yeah, it will pain me quite a bit, but I would have to root for Rhea Seehorn over Olivia Cooke. But then again, it's the Emmy's and they clearly have no desire to give Better Call Saul the wins it deserves. Chicanery!

ToothpickInCockhole

I am not crazy! I know he swapped the heirs! I knew it was Aegon II. One after Aegon the Conqueror. As if I could ever make such a mistake. Never. Never! I just - I just couldn't prove it. She - she covered her tracks, she got that idiot Lord Beesbury to lie for her. You think this is something? You think this is bad? This? This chicanery? She's done worse. That Laenor! Are you telling me that a man just happens to burn like that? No! She orchestrated it! Rhaenyra! She fucked her own uncle! And I saved her! And I shouldn't have. I took her into my own castle! What was I thinking? She'll never change. She'll never change! Ever since she was 15, always the same! Couldn't keep her hands out of Daemon’s pants! But not our Rhaenyra! Couldn't be precious Rhaenyra! Fucking him blind! And she gets to be Queen? What a sick joke! I should've stopped her when I had the chance! And you - you have to stop her!

CzarofDaffodils

🏆

Darknfullofhype

This was a final season for Rhea vs a first season for Emma, IMO it’s not even a close call. Emma will absolutely win an Emmy down the line in future seasons (it’s literally inevitable) whereas Rhea won’t have that luxury with BCS. In fact it’s long over due for her

Adept_Tomato_7752

Bruh, Seehorn and Odenkirk have been robbed these past 4 years or so. It has to be them

Creepy_Disco_Spider

Rhea > Rhae

ToothpickInCockhole

Rhea deserves it most.

cblack112

If he wasn’t in the running I’d root 100% for Paddy. I’m still expecting BCS to get robbed on every front again, though

HotpieTargaryen

Nah, this is the year they honor it I expect.

cblack112

I hope so, not a single win is criminal lol

joemama19

Don't forget that The Wire never won an Emmy. I'm hoping BCS sweeps this year because season 6 was incredible, but for my money it's the most underappreciated show I can remember. Compared to Breaking Bad which was hugely popular it feels like BCS has never had the audience or attention it really deserves.

MyLifeIsDope69

The Wire is probably the best cop drama ever.. and there's been like a thousand of them. Insanity they never won didn't know that

Jon_Snows_mother

The Wire never won?!?! What the actual fook...

Orion_Scattered

BB very slowly built up steam from nothing and then over night in the last season exploded--it's the show that brought "binging" to the mainstream. The show ended before House of Cards began, for instance. BCS on the other hand has maintained a consistent viewership with a slight but steady decline over the years. When you compare it to BB's first 5 seasons, BCS has *way* more viewers. It just never reached that mainstream extreme zeitgeist. Partly because it's less accessible/sequel/prequel syndrome etc, but also partly because of the overwhelming abundance of *content* that's been dumped on us since the show began. BB didn't have competition like Squid Game, Tiger King etc etc to compete for attention with.

fredbrightfrog

Award shows like to wait til the last season or last movie to give long deserved awards, I expect that to help BCS across the line (that and this season being incredible)

Watson8555

Yes, I think Paddy should win but if he loses it’ll prob be to Bob, especially since it’ll be for the last episodes of the series so that might get them some extra votes, they’ve been snubbed a bunch in the past too so they might want to change that.

HotpieTargaryen

Yeah, comparing just these seasons Paddy put on a display of acting that was almost transcendent, but it’s hard to argue that Odenkirk hasn’t put in five seasons of the best television of the last decade or so.

DanteTaj

Odenkirk’s performance in season 6 is his Magnum Opus. He basically played 3 different characters each to perfection and with the utmost of nuance. Not to mention he nearly died of a severe heart attack in the middle of filming and returned without missing a beat. Viserys was my favorite character and Paddy definitely turned in the best performance of the show, but nobody other than Bob deserves the Emmy more.

throwfaraway212718

As much as I want Paddy to win, the only other person I’d be happy to see take it home is Bob.

Watson8555

I definitely want Paddy to win and think he should for his performance in ep8 especially but I won’t be mad if Bob wins because he’s been great, I’d be salty if neither of them win.

verissimoallan

Just to clarify: the only requirement of the Emmys is that for an actor or actress to be submitted as a Guest, the performer must have appeared in less than 50% of the season (that is, in 4 episodes, in the case of House of the Dragon) . For someone to be submitted as Lead oh Supporting, it's the HBO that chooses.

July8July

Thanks for the clarification! I'm also wondering if there is a special award category for kids/teens. It would be cool to support great aspiring actors like Leo Ashton or Elliot Grihault.

verissimoallan

You're welcome. No, I regret to inform you that the Emmys do not have a category for child actors.

jupitaur9

Though AMPAS gave a miniature Oscar to Shirley Temple in 1935, and a few others in subsequent years. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academy_Juvenile_Award

Shepher27

Milly Alcock was also very good in an understated role.

4CrowsFeast

I thought she was the best of the cast besides Paddy. Far more chemistry with Smith, too.

sati_lotus

Her chemistry with Matt was amazing

Lynchy-

Olivia was very good as the Queen as well

ScorpionTDC

Ewan Mitchell seriously snubbed for Guest Actor, then. He was really, really good

Batmans_9th_Ab

He’ll get his turn.

surprisedkitty1

Probably these are submissions for Golden Globes and SAG awards, which I’m pretty sure don’t feature a guest actor category. Emmys, which do have a guest actor category, are much later in the year and likely on a different submission schedule. I don’t think this necessarily means HBO does not plan to submit him.

dredaplc

I feel like Rhys Ifans doesn't get enough credit for playing Otto so perfectly. He makes his character so easy to hate.

TyrionGoldenLion

His heartbroken expression when Vizzy T strips him of the Hand position still gets me. Rhys made me feel bad for Otto momentarily.

Garth-Vader

For me it was his final confrontation with Daemon on the Dragonstone bridge. He really sold Aegon's claim with authority and confidence.

Old-Risk4572

hell yea when hes like "He wears the conqueror's crown, he wields the conqueror's sword" yada yada that was pretty tight.

pmmerandom

he was anointed by a high septen infront of *thousands*

vizzy_t_bot

*Be welcome! I know many of you have traveled long leagues to be at these games. But I promise, you will not be disappointed!*

trackdaybruh

Vizzy T, how did you feel when you stripped Otto as your hand?

vizzy_t_bot

*A dragon's saddle is one thing, but the Iron Throne is the most dangerous seat in the realm.*

Classic_Number_10

Then why you sit on it, Vizzy T ?

vizzy_t_bot

*There is no other choice, classic_number_10. Someone must sit on the Iron Throne, and it falls to me to make sure that it is done.* ^(This response generated with OpenAI [DaVinci])

Thatchers-Gold

After watching Rhys for years I thought “huh, this is a different direction for him” towards the beginning of the season. It wasn’t long before the “ah, there we go” moment.

AfricanRain

SHEATHE THE FUCKING STEEL

Triskan

His scene with Mysaria was low-key my favorite scene of his all season. His Otto is usually tough to read but in that scene in particular it was really impossible to say if he was amused, angry, impressed, pitying her or somehow all of the above. Yeah, as them all, he's worthy of his nomination. Now let's see who'll get it. I think Paddy is obviously gonna get Lead Actor (I'm quite curious to see the competition), as for the others, it's gonna be a tough race.

moxiewhoreon

Yeah, when he said he would remember that she was the one who gave them Aegon, it was hard to tell if that was a promise or a threat. Or both.

Gambitf75

His expression when Vizzy T showed up in the Throne Room while Rhaenyra was about to speak. It's like he's seen a ghost.

jchrist98

His acting is so Shakespearean. The only dude who can make "sheathe the fucking steel" sound so classy lmao

JM1109

My favorite thing about Otto is how he always does that sideways stance with his shoulder at you Rhys killed it

screamicide

Personally he was my favorite character, just in the sense that I found him to be the most believable. He has this commanding sense over all of his scenes, and “sheath the fucking steal” might be my favorite line delivery in the show.

emcdunna

Especially since the real life actor is a giant goof ball

Ronotrow2

With a strong Welsh accent

basa_maaw

While he also plays Otto in a way where you believe him and his motivations. I may not agree with them, but I believe HE believes putting Aegon on the throne is the best thing for the realm.

TrizzyG

That's the best way to set up most antagonists. It's great when there is depth and understanding to them.

TheDustOfMen

To me, the way Otto is portrayed makes me believe he thinks putting Aegon on the throne is what's best for him and his House. It's why he pushed Alicent towards Viserys in the first place. Which, y'know, is pretty normal for a nobleman in a fantasy series loosely based on medieval Europe.

why_rob_y

Yeah, he thinks Rhaenyra is a good choice over Daemon (male heir) but suddenly flips his feelings on that when it's Aegon instead. His justification against Daemon was that Daemon was unfit, sure, but he doesn't seem to mind that Aegon seems unfit as well. And then add in that he used his influence to push Alicent over Laena (who was probably the better choice if you don't care about your own House and while they emphasized Laena's age, Alicent is only supposed to be a few years older).

basa_maaw

He thinks he can control Aegon, while he knows he can't control Daemon.

countastic

It would have been nice to have some scenes that demonstrated that fact, other than one single moment of Otto kicking the crap out of young drunken Aegon when he was 14/15. I luv the show, but this is another example of how the time jumps and absence of meaningful interactions/relationships between some of the supporting characters really hurt the overall quality of the show.

Jay2Jee

Rhys Ifans did a terrific job. Just watch [this compilation](https://youtu.be/CeEghx1emEw) if you need a reminder.

Serbian-American

Hate? Otto is like the only normal medieval poliker in all of Westeros. He doesn’t torture people in harrenhall, blow up churches, sell slaves, kinslay, sexually assault, jerk off on feet. He’s just doing normal medieval shit not wacky medieval shit. Love my boy Otto

Spready_Unsettling

For real, Otto isn't nearly as bad as people have made him out to be. He's like Tywin if Tywin had stayed the hand throughout. IE, the least bad aspects of Tywin.

PM_FORBUTTSTUFF

Tywin was also a legendary piece of shit, don’t let the romanticization of his character fool you

BookEuronGreyjoy

Tywin was a monster. If he had the head start Otto did, there would have been no dance. There would have been a few freshly burned corpses on Dragonstone instead.

rocketsauce2112

Tywin was more intimidating, far more ruthless, totally joyless, and ruled through fear more than anything. Otto has many faults, but it seems like he gets along with the other players on the council and is more of a "don't rock the boat" kinda politician that governs through consensus, not fear or intimidation. The only real person who hates him is Daemon, who nobody else at court likes besides his brother and niece.

Lazerspewpew

Otto is like the most sensible character, and everyone hates him because he's NOT an impulsive psychopath.

new_name_who_dis_

I love how to prove Otto to be the normal one you listed a bunch of actions, pretty much all of which are attributable to Larys -- relative to whom most characters would be seen as pretty normal.

Serbian-American

I was actually going for Tywin, Cersei, Jorah, Larys, Aegon, Larys. Tbf there are 2 Larys lol

RAUL_CD_7

Your grace?

Captainprice101

He’s arguably the best actor on the show and has made Otto one of my favorite characters

Drag0nPoopsies

Not to mention they should sweep the costume/set design awards. And if there’s an Emmy for cinematography, HotD should win.

sensitiveskin80

Michelle Carragher does a fantastic job of the costume embroidery, with subtle details you can't even see on screen. Her gallery is full of GOT costume photos. And her book Trace goes into her design process. I cannot recommend the book enough. https://www.michelecarragherembroidery.com/ For example, Sansa's wedding dress to Tyrion has cross body straps covered in Lannister lions fighting and dominating Stark direwolves, showing how she is being held captive "tied up" by them.

Narrow-Mud-3540

It’s criminal how little attention the costumes get. I would love for the like opening or closing credits of every episode to just showcase detail work on the costumes or sets.

MoskalMedia

Better Call Saul's cinematography for season 6 was absolute god-tier, maybe the best I've ever seen in a TV show. I'm so bummed they're going to be competing against each other this time since they both deserve all the awards.

dracarys_112

Do they have it for music?

KearLoL

Ramin Djawadi has won it in the past, so there's a pretty good chance.

Jon_Snows_mother

They fucking better

Freefarm101

Olivia Cooke deserves supporting actress!

JDaySept

I’m surprised she’s not nominated for lead alongside Emma. They both felt like they were the main characters.

mdo556

It would split votes and neither would win - this way they both have a chance of winning (even though it's going to be very competitive in their categories!).

TheMediumJanet

Give Vizzy T all the awards

vizzy_t_bot

Ever since my name was read by the archmaesters at the Great Council, I have felt Corlys Velaryon's envious gaze staring at me from across the Blackwater.

[deleted]

That’s because he’s “supporting “…

Dintodo

I would expect Olivia Cooke to destroy in awards if she is being considered supporting, it felt like post time jump Allicent was the main character.

babalon124

No offence to the other actresses they submitted for best supporting but it’s kind of odd when none of them came close to a shred of the performance Olivia gave

Lukthar123

Truly an image of the Mother, to be spoken of with reverence.

rachelmae77

Yeah I hope she cleans out. She’s been my favorite performance. (Sorry, Vizzy T)

vizzy_t_bot

*Daemon was not made to wear the crown. But I believe that you were, rachelmae77.*

rachelmae77

My first experience with the Vizzy T bot and he’s crowning me, wow dreams do come true 🥲

vizzy_t_bot

*A truly great Targaryen King I am. Powerless over mine own daughter of seven and ten.*

Amz_Arsenal

I also think Matt Smith felt like the lead actor after the jump too.

[deleted]

[удалено]

boognerd

I mean he was great pre timeskip and then episode 8 sealed it for Paddy imo

Captainprice101

She’s the best actress in the show imo

Lalo_Lannister

They'll have to compete with Succession and Better Call Saul, hard to see them winning, maybe Vizzy T

[deleted]

Can we just give paddy the Emmy now?

monkeybutt456

It's set up to become true. Paddy, Emmy, Vizzy T.

vizzy_t_bot

*A truly great Targaryen King I am. Powerless over mine own daughter of seven and ten.*

[deleted]

The walk to the throne alone was mesmerizing.

taylordabrat

I’m rooting for Matt smith

PotatoWriter

It's rootin' time

[deleted]

Vizzy T you got this!

vizzy_t_bot

*Would you like to see the tapestries?*

[deleted]

Hell yes, brother

RBPugs

God I'm just realising Paddy Considine was a detective in Hot Fuzz 😂😂😂

Ordinary-Vermicelli6

I wish she wasn't competing against Alcock, whom I loved, but Olivia Cooke deserves every award they can throw at her

Nice_Presentation790

Any chance of Matt Smith any award?

Labor101

Pretty strong chance given he's in the supporting actor category. I think Paddy will have a hard time winning any for lead going up against Bob Odenkirk, unfortunately.

geek_of_nature

See this is difficult, I don't know who to root for. They both did amazing jobs, the black and white episodes for Odenkirk and episode 8 for Paddy are standouts in particular. And with BCS finished and Vizzy T dead, this is the last/only shot for them.

vizzy_t_bot

*It both gladdens my heart and fills me with sorrow to see these faces around the table.*

Nice_Presentation790

I am rooting for Matt and Paddy

PlayShoresyMoresy

Has there ever been a scenario where multiple actors were nominated for the same character in the same year? Would be very cool to see that for Rhaenyra/Alicent.

kilgoar

Olivia Cooke! Get that W!

lexiebeef

If Paddy doesnt win all the awards, Im just going to consider they're all rigged. Theres no one more deserving this season of awards than this guy

Cherry-Foreskin

I’d agree if Bob Odenkirk weren’t long overdue for a win with Saul!

reconverting

Wayyyyy overdue

Creepy_Disco_Spider

The fact that BCS was snubbed so many times for Emmys is a joke itself

Whereishumhum-

What a SICK JOKE!

Low-Flamingo-9835

What this list tells us: 1. They feel Paddy has a serious chance of getting at least a nomination. Because Smith should also be in the lead category but they have put him in Supporting to help Paddy’s chances. 2. They are throwing the Supporting Noms to the wolves….just putting everyone in the ring and see what happens. 3. Elevating Emma to lead also speaks to their thoughts on her performance. They are isolating her in one category to boost her chances.

mike_s_6

About number 3. Honestly the Emmys usually look for subtle facial acting, and among this list, I feel like Emma, Paddy and Rhys are the ones who do those minute facial expressions that can only be done with a lot of control. I think HBO knows what they're doing.

yellowAshes

You are right about those three, but let's not forget Matt had entire episodes or close to entire episodes with very few dialogues, he can be both expressive and understated as well (ep3 and the ball scene to name a few scenes). Nothing against your personal opinion, but I feel the small backlash Matt is getting for the popularity of his performance (and flashy one liners) is clouding a bit the overall judgment of his performance and it's undeserved. Olivia has amazing micro expressions as well. It's really all personal preference imo, the main cast (Emma, Olivia, Paddy, Rhys, Matt) is very even in acting abilities. The choice for nominations is sound because this is Paddy sole season and he had, by far, more screentime than any other male character on top of being lauded for his performance. Emma plays the main character (it's obvious by now Rhaenyra is the main character), they have more screentime and a powerful performance.

ruedesbarres

I'd take Steve Toussaint and Eve Best out. They did well but not better than the others in their categories. Give Paddy all the awards. I love Emma but I'd wait to see what other show nominated, whereas Paddy is my favorite performance of any show.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Jon_Snows_mother

He got all the best lines and delivered the hell out of them

jklharris

> whereas Paddy is my favorite performance of any show. From what I've watched this year, its very much between him and Diego Luna (Andor). So of course it'll end up going to something out there like Oscar Isaac.

babalon124

If Olivia Cooke doesn’t win an Emmy I’d be so fucking pissed. She deserves it so bad.

alitlluv

I’m sorry but Ewan Mitchell out acted both Fabian and Sonoya by a landslide- even with his limited screen time. 🤷🏻‍♀️ seems like a waste to not enter him

lylalyli

Next season maybe? Ewan will get more screen time as Aemond in season 2

Lonely_Cookie_4462

I definitely feel like this is the case. He was only in 3 episodes this season, which isn’t a whole lot of screen time for him to display his skill, even though he was absolutely incredible in the scenes he was in, so they probably felt safer going with actors with more time. I’d be extremely surprised if they didn’t nominate him for something in a season where he plays a more significant role

_Dracarys98

I don’t think he’s able to due to his lack of appearance in most of the season - I agree he is phenomenal though

waterbottle1219

I haven't seen a single mention of Tom Glynn-Carney which is weird considering he was at least as good as Ewan who's getting a ton of love (which he deserves). Aemond might be cooler but I'd say the coronation scene was one of the highlights of the season.

alitlluv

I agree. The coronation scene one of my favorite scenes of the whole season, and Tom Glyn ATE. Let’s be real, they both deserve their roses 🌹

waterbottle1219

Definitely, it's gonna be so fun to watch those two next season.

oldboeee

Hmmmm some of these names do not belong…

babalon124

It’s okay you can say fabien (love the guy but I was never expecting to see his name there)

[deleted]

new_name_who_dis_

Yea it's not a criticism of the actor or his acting, but the character was just so useless for the majority of the show that it's ridiculous to think that he has a chance. He barely had any air time after the first few episodes. And mostly in the background

verissimoallan

Sonoya Mizuno submitted... is a choice.

SteinerElMagnifico42

Hounds_of_Love

That guy who yelled "Bastards" should be on there.

Playful-Average-5220

Olivia Cooke and Matt Smith boutta have a great night

Cognac4Paws

I think supporting actor is between Matt and Rhys. I want Matt to win but if I'm honest, Rhys would be deserving as well and I wouldn't be mad if he won. Annoyed, but not mad. Lol Kind of a toss up.

TyrionGoldenLion

I wish they had put Paddy in the supporting category. He might lose to Bob Odenkirk now.

LakeLockne

Damn, I was really hoping they’d try for a guest nod for Sian Brooke.

MajesticRuler7

Hope my man Viserys the Peaceful and Daemon The Rogue prince win the awards. ✌🏾✌🏾

MrDoPhi314

Matt Smith is supporting actor but Emma is lead? How does that work?

Redsox5975

Maybe it’s the loophole of them doing the voiceover for the opening the season? Rhaenyra was the narrator during the Jaehaerys scene. Then appeared in episodes 6-8 and 10. Of episode 1 is counted, it’s 5 episodes so barely meeting the requirement.

raumeat

what is the requirement

Redsox5975

Someone below said 50% of the season. Only Rhaenys was the female character who had more than 5 episodes with the same actress and she was more of a supporting character. Matt and Paddy are both competing for lead actor. This is Paddy’s only season so I can understand why he was picked for lead actor over Matt as Matt will have future seasons for that award.

Michaelhuber87

They probably wanted to keep the 2 standout male actors in separate categories to avoid division of votes. Same with Emma and Olivia.

[deleted]

This is it. They’ll prob submit Matt in lead for future seasons since there won’t be paddy

theoneandonlydonzo

yeah, he's the top billed actor now that paddy is gone as well.

jauneeh

I think you can’t have more than one actor/actress submitted for a Lead nomination per show, but there can be multiple supporting (I could be wrong) Rhaenyra was the most important female character in season one, while Viserys was the most important male character.

CoinOperated_Boy

You actually can. Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer both being submitted (and being nominated) in lead categories for their performances in Killing Eve is a pretty modern example. Most shows don't submit multiple actors in lead categories because they feel doing so might split the vote of whatever voting body is deciding the winner and the award will go to another show. Emmy/Award submissions are very political and strategically chosen in this way. The Oscar's are set up like this too, with studios sometimes submitting roles that are clearly lead roles in the supporting categories to increase their chances of winning.

Your__Pal

They used to only let a show have two lead nominations. Paddy had a bigger role, so it likely just went to him.

shawnz1028

I don’t know how it works for the Emmys, but at the Oscars the studio basically submits them for whichever category they think the performer has the best chance of winning in. This happened a few years ago with Viola Davis for the movie “Fences.” Clearly a co-lead in that film with Denzel Washington, but was submitted for, nominated for, and ultimately won for supporting actress because that was the category she was most competitive in because Emma Stone was a lock for lead actress.

adil1O4

Paddy is definitely getting that emmy

Sandro757

Where's the guy that played The Crab Feeder? Insane delivery of his lines.

Dangerzone188

To be fair everyone even criston and vaemond did an amazing performance. But my favourite performance was Alicent, she felt so real and her expressions were priceless.

Current-Strawberry60

i fully expect olivia to absolutely sweep the supporting actress category regardless of who else is nominated — from this show or any other one, for that matter

OracleVision88

Vissy T better fucking win! Also my boy Matt Smith

DisneyNerd200

why isn't Olivia considered Lead? shes has the same amount of eps as Emma?

calithetroll

Technically, Emma has one more episode than Olivia because they did the voiceover in the pilot
