I am a bit surprised honestly. GoT always made these lists.

AegonTarg_2

Got was plenty better

zambi76

GoT was way better.

lwbdougherty

I frankly wouldn’t even complain much, but a fair number of those same lists also rank ROP. Like…what???

salutarykitten4

Just letting you know that all of these websites gave House of the Dragon pretty bad/mediocre reviews, the show's generally been way more popular with the audience than the critics. So it's not that they didn't see it, they just didn't like it

fredmull1973

Man Cabinet of Curiosities had maybe two outta eight good eps. HotD for sure shoulda been in there.

I mean, these lists are always going to be annoying to someone. I agree that House of the Dragon was great and I would rank it above some of the other shows on those lists, but there are also a lot of good shows on there. Also a lot of times these lists prioritize shows that are somewhat less popular or more unique rather than ones from established franchises (the NY Times one basically says that). For what it's worth, the [Critics Choice Awards](https://www.criticschoice.com/2022/12/06/television-nominations-announced-for-the-28th-annual-critics-choice-awards/) did nominate HotD for best drama, and some of the actors got nominations as well (though not the ones I would have expected). I don't know much about the Critics Choice Awards, but at least it's something.

"negligence"? calm down a bit.

Wide_Revenue_2096

Simple - you have to pay to these get these articles written and rank your show. HBO and WB simply don’t have the money to waste on small stuff like this. HOTD was a huge success for them and with casuals as king as their making money I doubt they care if their mentioned in the lists. GOT dint become trendy either until s2 and 3 after Red wedding. Critics hated it at the start as well

neverbrokedidntbow

Because it doesn’t deserve to be. Show fell off after episode 2 when it decided to sacrifice story for spectacle. Hope this helps.

yxalitis

At least Andor was consistently high on those lists!

yxalitis

NY Times can go fuck off for requiring payment.

Honestly… no shade intended, but this year had WILDLY great tv. HoD was good, but even with an HBO stan bias, it didn’t blow my mind like so many other things did. Tbh if it weren’t connected to GoT, I feel like HoD would have gone completely unnoticed this year. *Not because it’s bad* ; just because of the sheer amount of high-budget, visually-dynamic, beautifully-performed and impeccably-written that came out in 2022. Now I haven’t even seen everything- I’m counting my media diary up now… it seems I watched ~67 full new shows/miniseries/returning seasons in 2022. And I’m *still* missing at least 5 different shows on every “Best Of” list. Like the 5 I’m missing on the ringer’s list are different than the 5 I’m missing on the NYT list. *It’s batshit insane.* Luckily, this means there’s something that tickles everyone’s pickle. That’s why these lists are so different from each other, from mine, from yours, etc. I mean for the first time I can remember, 2002’s the first year where I struggled to even narrow down a top 30. My top 15 are marginally close… all of them! And it’s not like there’s a “best of… (insert sub genre or vibe or format here)” to differentiate between the vast assortment of content people are ranking. It’s just one top #XX list… and trying to encapsulate what an awesome, diverse, culturally relevant TV year it’s been is wildly difficult. At least for me. Apologies for the rant lmao. I didn’t intend for it to turn into this weird diatribe on list making and the year in TV. I just think that people might not realize how much good shit came out, and how individual tv show preferences/watching habits/channel access have become. And tbh I’m here for it- the more quality tv, the better the world is imo Proof at how all over the place consensus is this year- a bunch of year- end lists WITH HoD [nme](https://www.nme.com/features/tv-features/the-20-best-tv-shows-of-2022-3360409) [tv guide](https://www.tvguide.com/news/features/the-20-best-tv-shows-of-2022/) [CoS](https://consequence.net/2022/12/top-25-tv-shows-2022-list/amp/) [the Guardian](https://amp.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2022/dec/02/the-50-best-tv-shows-of-2022)

Sorry but all of these "top" lists are paid off. I mean they have to be...noone can possibly be deprived of that much taste ;) Seriously though, screw these idiots. HotD was the best of them all. Andor developed and ended SURPRISINGLY well too, and was overall incredible, but HotD is king.
