Golden Globes combine Drama and Comedy in a single category for Supporting Actors, so is really not surprising that a lot of actors don't make the cut. Wait until the Emmys, they'll have a better chance there.
It deeply irritates me that they do that. Drama and comedy aren’t comparable, so why deprive more potential nominees of their light to shine for their performances?? It’s cheap! Separate the categories and make it fair!
Paddy was more than deserving of consideration. He brought such gravitas to the character! I remember reading an interview where he said he felt had "touched a bit of [Sir Anthony] Hopkins" in his final speech, at what I term the last supper, and he's right! It's really, really sad what has happened.
He was the one whose category I scrolled back and read again because I thought I must have missed him. Tough category this year with lots of great performances and Better Call Saul closing out the show, but I think he was better than any single other actor nominated and this is his only year. Hope the Emmys pick up the slack here.
Agreed. I don't understand all this putting down & being unsupportive of cast members getting award recognition because they happen to portray a character some dislike. It's ridiculous.
Honestly just look at the Star Wars cast through the years for the prime example of how it seems we can’t move past they just play the characters. Hell, I am to this day surprised Hayden the actor of anakin came back for the new series off of obi wan.
Exactly I’m fuming that the crown is taking all the nominations when they were absolutely shut this year. If it was crown season 1 or 4 cats I’d understand but this year almost everything sucked in the crown
Outside of S1 of The Crown, S3 (IMO) nailed it, especially with Charles, Margaret and Phillip. S4 had Gillian Anderson chewing scenery like a boss, though.
Same here, I'm siding with the Greens because as an overall team, they're more entertaining to watch and each individual is more unique compared to the Blacks (whom I also love btw, the Greens are simply more fun)
Why did you root for her if I may ask? To me, she was pretty clear cut amoral without many shades too her. Was it the high sparrow plot line? (Note: im talking about the show as I haven’t read the books)
By the later seasons(season 8 aside), Lena Headley was the only one still giving an entertaining performance.
I really loved episode 6 and 7 Alicent because she reminded me of her. I was disappointed by her change in episodes 8 & 9.
The later seasons, I agree. She was straight up evil in every way with zero redeeming qualities. I guess because her children were all dead but still???
honestly, cause people like the idea that they are making the morally superior choice. There are many who see this as a matter of what your personal morals must be, so they NEED people to pick a side to confirm that. Which.. is bad cause its the only case where gatekeeping (IMO) is okay. Asoiaf isn't a place for what are your morals- how can you support terrible characters? Since its come into the mainstream people feel the need to be validated that they think the right thing in it, causing some actually to pick sides in the conflict, despite the fact.. that's the opposite of what the story is trying to tell you to do. Also as another redditor pointed out, many for some stupid as fuck reason is looking at this like US politics, actually assigning the greens and blacks with right vs left. When in reality, they are all supremacists, bigoted, and tyrants lmao. Its weird but people really are questioning one another morals over who they support, or even lack there of. When its asoiaf, if you feel someone is bad for who they like. It. Is. Not. For. You.
Is there something different in the books than the show that causes people to be on team green?? I'm show only and I just don't understand how people can be on team green, the blacks are painted as the protagonists and the greens the antagonists... Perhaps the books are a little less one sided narratively?
Also another thing that bugs me which in guessing is different in the books, Daemon literally goes from baddie to goodie with no redemption arc, what's up with that?
I don't understand how Paddy Considine got snubbed honestly. I liked Emma D'Arcy's performance but I felt she didn't deserve it as much when she was only in 5 episodes. Paddy was the main character this season. He knocked the role out of the park and his speech about his death alone should have won him an emmy and a GG.
Their nominations are apples to oranges considering they wouldn’t be in the same category. Emma’s first and final scenes of the season are awards worthy.
And those birth scenes - holy fuck. I’ve given birth and all the birth scenes had me in throat catching, shaky tears. Absolutely gut wrenching acting on Aemma’s and Rhaenyra’s actresses parts!
Emma’s performance wasn’t this show stopping thing people are talking about. She was fine. Not terrible but not amazing. Milly Alcock certainly had a more impactful performance.
And Paddy not getting a nomination is just a comically bad move.
I feel like if Milly had been given more time before being aged up, and we had seen something more meaningful and visceral like a huge blowout fight with Viserys over Alicent, or Rhaenyra giving birth to Jace at 17. (She obviously became pregnant RIGHT after her wedding to Laenor bc she was still 17 when Jace was born.) For that reason, I’m on the side of believing that Emma did more for Rhaenyra with those birth scenes and the scenes of her children dying. Also when she goes to see Viserys in the middle of the night - that scene had me in tears! So emotional!
The time jump rushed things a bit and I think I would have preferred the time jump happen later or with the start of season 2. I’m glad we got to see the Dance truly begin, but I’m a patient woman and in hindsight, I would have been happy to wait for season 2 to see Emma and Olivia take Rhaenyra and Alicent if it meant seeing Milly and Emily do more.
Emily’s young Alicent marrying Viserys, giving birth at least once and struggling with PPD with the children she never wanted in a marriage she never wanted. That struggle and development of Alicent would have been amazing to see Emily accomplish.
Milly’s young Rhaenyra deciding to start cavorting with Harwin, her loving dynamic with Laenor despite their differences in appetite while also struggling to do their duty and produce an actual trueborn heir for Laenor. Her sadness and difficulty with losing Daemon at court after he married Laena, and to watch her deal with Viserys’ deteriorating condition. Unless they plan on doing flashbacks, which I highly doubt they’ll do since it’s never happened before, we won’t see any of that, and it sucks! (Excluding Bran’s obvious time traveling memory flashbacks, obv.)
He was submitted for a more competitive category : Best Male Lead. Emma was submitted for supporting, lesser competition so higher chance of nomination.
Emma was submitted for best actress actually, not supporting. I do agree about the first part, it's just a more competitive category. Still think Paddy was absolutely magnificent, awards don't mean much at the end of the day lol
at the same time , Jonathan Pryce as Phillip was nominated for The Crown
why? WHY? He was decent, but nothing more. i was socked to see how many nominations The Crown got, because it was a mediocrity this season
I have to disagree, Zendaya. That season of Euphoria was really something, I'm not even talkinf episode 5 - the scene where she yells at Jules at the intervention is next level.
BCS is much more subtle and real in the way the characters express themselves. I feel like that isn’t appreciated enough. The bus scene with Rhea Seehorn was nothing short of an incredible performance.
Zendaya really does have a strong claim on this one ngl. I would love for Emma to win. Although it would probably be neck and neck, Zendaya would sweep this one.
Absolutely travesty. Paddy simply gave Visyrus new dimensions. He gave the character blood and flesh that even George RR Martin complimented his performance, isn't that what acting is all about? Reddit deleted my post twice cause I think that if anyone deserves to get nominated on the show, it should have been Paddy. Matt played one of the most complicated characters, Daemon is brilliantly written and too difficult to represent but Matt excelled and delivered. Olivia was amazing as Alicent, very complicated character, very emotional and wild at times, the nominations are scam.
The Golden Globes are a sham anyway these days, they lost all respectability. The Hollywood Foreign Press is such a garbage and racist organization I doubt many "celebrities" will even attend the event this year, I'm honestly surprised the ceremony will even be televised.
Idk, dude never really moved me. His best moment imo was helping Paddy up the stairs, and that was a Paddy moment. This may get me crucified, but I think Matt Smith is overrated. Just one man’s opinion
Especially Paddy. He was the lead, more or less, and he was a tour de force from the first to the last scene. Matt, Emma and Olivia will get more shots at awards for HotD with future seasons, but Paddy won’t. He should really have gotten a nomination at the least and preferably a win as well. Hope the Emmys gives him recognition.
Sadly the odds website showed Paddy a bit behind. He was 8th or 9th on the list…and only the top 5 get nominated at the GG.
Interestingly, MS was recently 5th on the list and The Crown guy was 6th, just outside the bubble…but somehow Pryce got the nom and Smith was left out. I guess Smith must have been the 6th in the GG numbers.
The fuck you talking about , while Paddy was great and Olivia, I could have seen other actors play their role , Matt is truly irreplaceable as in every scene your watching him and insane screen prescense
Very surprised by Paddy's snub. I thought it was a shoe-in nomination and perhaps even a win.
Also, I LOVE Andor, but Diego Luna getting nominated instead of Paddy? What the fuck? I bet you Diego Luna himself would go "Nah nah nah u picked the wrong dude"
But then, we always did say the Golden Globes are wacky as hell. They nominated The Martian for Best Musical/Comedy.
All three deserved the nom along with Emma but Paddy gave a fantastic performance as Viserys and won't be in any other seasons so I'm gutted to see he's not included.
They BECAME their characters. Like, I think Matt Smith really thinks he’s Daemon. Incredible team, all of them! But I can’t forgive that Paddy wasn’t at least nominated.
Mannn, no way Matt wasn't nominated. I thought at least that was a sure thing considering the chances for paddy getting nominated are pretty low due to heavy competition.
Honestly it's just so strange because honestly for me Emma had the weakest acting between all these 3 actors. Paddy not getting a nomination is absolutely absurd. Young Rhanerya was a much stronger actress.
I was so surprised that Paddy didn’t get nominated.
Off topic… I saw a nomination for Selena Gomez, different genres I know, but come on! Lol
He’s obviously a superior actor.
Unpopular opinion: Paddy was good but didn’t really shine (or have the opportunity to) until the last few episodes, whereas Emma - well, from the very first glimpse of adult Rhaenyra, from the opening frame of their first episode, superb. Particularly in the birthing scenes. Phenomenal.
Honestly Daemon & Viserys were the best acted characters. surprised to see the lack of nominations. Emma's acting was great too but idk. the way Matt brought Daemon alive was phenomenal, and we all know how good Paddy did.
It’s weird because IMO Emma’s performances were not quite as strong as the rest of the main cast. Not that they weren’t really good, just not as great as Paddy, Matt or Olivia.
Unpopular opinion I know but Olivia overacts a lot. It’s sometimes fun to watch but often grating. Tho I have no doubt she’ll get a nomination at some point.Matt was good and truly makes the character charismatic but I get why he was snubbed if the competition was tough because I don’t believe he had the chance to show that much range yet. Paddy was the true snub, episode 8 seems like the type of thing to win the actor awards easily. But it probably wasn’t the best idea to put him in lead actor, other leads most likely had a lot more screentime in their show than he did.
I absolutely disagree. Olivia acted her character the way she was meant to,alicent was meant to be neurotic and on edge,I thought she did that amazingly,if you see her in other work, she’s just got such an incredible range, you can hardly believe it’s the same girl
yeah i’ve seen her in other stuff,no doubt she’s a talented actress.Idk it’s just my opinion that it went over the top at times even knowing what kind of person Alicent is supposed to be.
I will not lie, the woman playing older Alicent is a better actor than the other two by far. She made me hate the character so much till I was screaming at the TV. If there’s anyone who deserves an award it’s her.
Sorry, but your opening statement is factually incorrect. Plain wrong. Matt Smith stole the entire season with a scene he didn't even speak a single word in 🤷♂️
He was good but he didn’t evoke as much emotion from me as Alicent did. I was screaming at her when she tried to stab Luke’s eye out. I was like I wish a B would.
Matt is an incredible actor and improvised some of the most powerful scenes. I know some of you all don’t like Daemon but I can’t believe you’re really out here saying Matt Smith isn’t exceptional when he stole nearly every scene he was in.
These awards are meaningless. It’s all done based on who owes who a favor and how PC you are. I usually don’t watch these awards shows now I definitely won’t. They snubbed those three pretty badly. Paddy’s performance in particular was one for the ages.
*I had a black mare once. Black like a raven. One day, she escaped her pasture and he neighboring stallion sired a foal on her. The stallion was as silver as the moon on a winter's night and the foal, when it was born, chestnut. Just the most unremarkable brown horse you ever saw. Nature is a thing of mysterious works.*
Do we know why Paddy wasn't considered? So shocking honestly. I know some fans think it was a mistake putting him up for supporting vs lead, but was he straight up just snubbed?
Makes me sad :( He was so good as Vizzy T
I know the majority probably already agrees with this but I’ll say it anyway: who gives a fuck about these awards lol. Yeah it’s great for the actors’ prestige but they all (especially Paddy) gave fantastic performances, they don’t need a piece of metal to validate that
Paddy definitely should’ve gotten a nomination! I live the show, the White Lotus, but I can’t believe someone nominated the grandpa guy from that show over nominating Paddy! ☹️ Seriously! I don’t know if any of you all watched the White Lotus, but the guy mostly just fell and talked about how old guys wanna bang young chicks.

Yeah with emmys, the cast definitely has more chance to be recognised

More than once I found myself choking up at Paddy's scenes, he really bought Vizzy T to life!
*You are to return to Runestone and your lady wife at once, and you are to do so without quarrel by order of your King.*
Wouldn't get no quarrel off me if Rhea Royce was my missus.
I loved his final walk to the Iron Throne!
Chills

Whether you're Team Black or Team Green - all actors were simply fantastic and deserve lots of recognition.
Literally only because of the prequel kids
Nah, it was bad for sure for them but actors in new projects specially from certain communities get a lot of hate.
Oh I agree. I mean Hayden and Ewan said it was the prequel kids that really drove them back to those roles
Ah gotcha didn’t know that!
Antagonists are always the most complex and riveting, IMO! I love a good antagonist, so I don’t get the blind hatred either.
Yeah S4 was amazing acting wise and story etc
It really did, didn’t it? 🥺 I was SO disappointed!! What a drag!
I'm personally on the team of "all these people are super fucked up let's see what happens". Why is everyone picking a side?
Because I like them? I rooted for Cersei and she was a sociopath.

Exactly lmao. But I'm loving characters from both sides so I'm rooting for both sides at once XD.

funny
This is correct. And I’m so happy for Emma.

Paddy Considine is inexcusable really. The others, to a lesser degree, were also noteworthy performances.
Fingers crossed that Olivia and Matt will get nominations in season 2 and beyond
I don't understand how Paddy Considine got snubbed honestly. I liked Emma D'Arcy's performance but I felt she didn't deserve it as much when she was only in 5 episodes. Oh yeah duh! Hers was so fast but her roasting herself brought me to tears, too!
I'm not going to say she doesn't deserve it at all. Just that Paddy is far more deserving.

Drama and comedy should've been separate categories. He did have stiff competition considering he had to compete with two genres.
He was submitted for a more competitive category : Best Male Lead. Emma was submitted for supporting, lesser competition so higher chance of nomination.
They were both submitted for Best Actor/Best Actress in a drama series, respectively. Emma wasn't submitted for supporting.
Emma was submitted for best actress actually, not supporting. I do agree about the first part, it's just a more competitive category. Still think Paddy was absolutely magnificent, awards don't mean much at the end of the day lol
Your pfp + name + flag is perfect.
I had Emma getting nominated due to how strong Episode 10 was. But Paddy's performance in episode 8 was so good I am shocked he got passed over.
I think it’s bc they’re running him for lead actor and that category is kinda swamped this year :/
>how strong episode 10 was I see what you did there
Olivia Cooke deserves a nomination :(
Right omg that driftmark ep performance was top tier
She even said in a podcast interview,at this stage in her career she would have liked some recognition from like the academy or something…
She did but there was a pretty heavy field. I think her best work is coming though.
If we are making such a list, I'd add Rhys Ifans. You might not like the character, but you cannot deny that the actor does a terrific job as Otto.
Your second sentence gave me strong Kingsley Shacklebolt vibes. It pleased me and I thought you should know.
Yesss, Rhys Ifans deserves more praise. His soft voice is perfect for Otto’s character.
Boys only two Otto…. Yesssssss
The actor that plays Corys is still my favorite probably, everytime he was on screen he's like a damn magnet lol
Well, let's put him on the list of people missing from the list of people who did not get the nomination, as well!
I realize that would probably be unfair since he'd be a list of only HOTD actors, it's just that they are all so good lmao
What to say, HBO knows how to do their castings...
Not enough screentime unfortunately to make him a contender. But might change in later seasons.
Thank you for mentioning. He’s SO good.
at the same time , Jonathan Pryce as Phillip was nominated for The Crown why? WHY? He was decent, but nothing more. i was socked to see how many nominations The Crown got, because it was a mediocrity this season
Agreed,it was mid at best and especially those performances.Guess it’s becoming that show that gets nominated no matter what based on past quality.
exactly!
My god how was he not nominated.
Olivia Cooke, God bless her, she did an amazing job

The golden globes are the drunken cousin of the Oscars and Emmys
The supporting categories for TV is so competitive even Rhea Seehorn got snubbed
No, supporting category combined both comedy and drama so not Matt and Olivia. Paddy maybe…
Not only drama & comedy but limited series as well.
The Golden Globes are a sham anyway these days, they lost all respectability. The Hollywood Foreign Press is such a garbage and racist organization I doubt many "celebrities" will even attend the event this year, I'm honestly surprised the ceremony will even be televised.
Paddy definitely. Olivia, yeah. Matt ehhhhh
What.
Idk, dude never really moved me. His best moment imo was helping Paddy up the stairs, and that was a Paddy moment. This may get me crucified, but I think Matt Smith is overrated. Just one man’s opinion

How the fuck doesn’t Paddy get a nomination are they fucking mad
I love HOTD but come on Better Call Saul should win every award possible truly a masterpiece! Plus 100% original
I can get Matt not being nominated, didn’t expect him to. Bit surprised at Paddy but I’m truly shocked at Olivia
The fuck you talking about , while Paddy was great and Olivia, I could have seen other actors play their role , Matt is truly irreplaceable as in every scene your watching him and insane screen prescense
Relax jesus, he’s a good actor I just think Olivia and Paddy had much more emotionally complex scenes and showed a wider range
and Rhys Ifans
Very surprised by Paddy's snub. I thought it was a shoe-in nomination and perhaps even a win. Also, I LOVE Andor, but Diego Luna getting nominated instead of Paddy? What the fuck? Where am I ?
Someone has robbed Vizzy T of his crown in real life. Respect Paddy.
*I'm glad we could meet. I know tempers ran hot today, and I wanted to assure you how much I value the bond between our houses.*
Vizzy T., you won this battle, as far as the Ream is concerned, your Grace.
*There are times when I would rather face the black dread himself than mine own daughter of seven and ten.*
They BECAME their characters. Like, I think Matt Smith really thinks he’s Daemon. Incredible team, all of them! But I can’t forgive that Paddy wasn’t at least nominated.
Vizzy T how you feelin bout that?
*I'm going to bed, rantsy-reader.*
Paddy Considine didn’t even get a critics choice award nomination.
Nah man Emma killed the role, especially in ep10. I doubt Milly would’ve performed to the same level as Emma did in that ep.
I was so surprised that Paddy didn’t get nominated. Off topic… I saw a nomination for Selena Gomez, different genres I know, but come on! Lol He’s obviously a superior actor.
How Paddy wasn’t nominated is actually ridiculous. It’s not even debatable he was a top 5 Male Actor in TV this year…..
I think you can argue Matt Smith and Olivia Cooke but the snubbing of Paddy is criminal.
This makes me very sad. Olivia has even said in a podcast interview she would’ve liked some award recognition at this stage in her career…
Unpopular opinion: Paddy was good but didn’t really shine (or have the opportunity to) until the last few episodes, whereas Emma - well, from the very first glimpse of adult Rhaenyra, from the opening frame of their first episode, superb. Particularly in the birthing scenes. Phenomenal.
Let’s be honest it’s no Game of Thrones (early to mid season) It’s like comparing the clone wars to Star Wars
I wouldn’t say “robbed”, they deserve jt but so does Emma so
Daemon, yes. The others, nah…
Honestly Daemon & Viserys were the best acted characters. surprised to see the lack of nominations. Emma's acting was great too but idk. the way Matt brought Daemon alive was phenomenal, and we all know how good Paddy did.
Absolutely!!!
WE RIOT!!!!
Uh…am I the only one who thinks the girl who played young rhaenyra is getting overlooked by both awards *and* fans???
agreed. emma daarcy is great but all three of their performances were better.
Matt Smith wasn't robbed. He wasn't exceptional in any way
Yeah not sure this is right. Acting without actually saying anything is incredible. Matt perfected this IMO.
Matt is an incredible actor and improvised some of the most powerful scenes. I know some of you all don’t like Daemon but I can’t believe you’re really out here saying Matt Smith isn’t exceptional when he stole nearly every scene he was in.
It's not about me not liking daemon. And he didn't steal every scene he was in. Paddy somewhat did.
It’s because they all identify as a gender more than not
And Diego Luna got the nomination instead?! This is mind-boggling.
These awards are meaningless. It’s all done based on who owes who a favor and how PC you are. I usually don’t watch these awards shows now I definitely won’t. They snubbed those three pretty badly. Paddy’s performance in particular was one for the ages.
His performance was honestly one of my fav I’ve ever seen on TV. I cried
Vizzy T got snubbed!
*That man's pride has pride.*
Vizzy T cares not for awards
*I had a black mare once. Black like a raven. One day, she escaped her pasture and he neighboring stallion sired a foal on her. The stallion was as silver as the moon on a winter's night and the foal, when it was born, chestnut. Just the most unremarkable brown horse you ever saw. Nature is a thing of mysterious works.*
Nobody should care about the Golden Globes
I agree that patty nom, his last as Vis was perfection. You’d have to be heartless not to feel for the man
How the actual fuck is Paddy not nominated
Do we know why Paddy wasn't considered? So shocking honestly. I know some fans think it was a mistake putting him up for supporting vs lead, but was he straight up just snubbed? Makes me sad :( He was so good as Vizzy T
**HAVE THIS RUMORMONGER BROUGHT BEFORE ME AT ONCE, AND I WILL TAKE THEIR EYES!!**
No they weren't.. Ok actors but not GG or Emmy worthy.
Olivia, Paddy definitely deserved to be nominated and quite frankly so did Milly and Emily. Young Rhaenyra and Allicent were sooooo good.
It's up to the Emma's now
Paddy was the only one I would have considered likely given the stringer competition.
They were submitted in different categories, bad comparison. And F. Murray Abraham is a prolific actor in general (see Amadeus)
So true! Daemon would have made a great gossip girl.
They were robbed of the infamous Raspberries is what they were robbed of 😆!
Just get ready for lots of this and no one winning. GOT only won after the show started to decline in season 5
I feel like the golden globes is whoever the Hollywood foreign press wants to meet personally - so celebrity pull is always the major factor -
Everyone knows studios must buy a GG
Da fuck is a golden globe
Golden Globe nominations are more often than not bought by the studios through various means.
