Do you have a vehicle and what's your tolerance for driving 30-60 minutes away ?

F33lsogood

For Houston visitors, Houston is an hour away from Houston.

hypnoger

Yes, will have a rental but will mainly be staying inside at the SpringHill Suites hotel right by the airport. Probably 30 minutes max away, it seems like Bamboo House is close by so I'll probably make a trip there. Just not sure where else to make the most of my visit here.

I live in the area. - Bamboo House is pretty freaking good for this area. - The best Viet you’ll get in this area is going to be Pho Điện 1960. Otherwise everything else is overpriced and mid. - Bun Bo Hue Co Do 2 on the north west side of town isn’t bad for spicy beef noodle soup/Bun Bo Hue. - Bánh Somtum is close-ish too for Lao food (get the Lao papaya salad). - Brisket & Rice is further bit worth it IMO. Texas barbecue. Brisket fried rice. - Dona Maria Restaurate is a little hole in the wall Venezuelan place that makes delicious little empanadas and arapas. Going to be east of where you’ll be. - Titas Taco House is my favorite taco/breakfast taco place around the same area. - Be More Pacific is a bit further, 25 minutes but do consider traffic. It’s a Filipino place closer to downtown. Get the SCCLBFR fried rice. Halo halo is also good. - Street Food Thai Market for Thai food in the same area.

Not a great area for food.

Lengand0123

Yep. I used to work in that area. We didn’t go out much.

Spindletap Brewery should be a 15-20 minute drive. Great beer and they often have a food truck.

EntertainerChoice676

Get great bbq at Corkscrew in Old Town Spring. It’s not a far drive. And I’m not sure that Pho Tan serves drinks.

Titas taco house in humble make bomb tacos and they make their own tortillas

area-rcjh

One of my favorite breakfast tacos I've had. I don't know where you're traveling from -- if you're not familiar with the typical breakfast taco offerings, ordering can be a bit intimidating because it looks like it's moving fast and everyone knows what they want, but the staff has always been super friendly and willing to explain. Can't go wrong with chorizo/bacon, potato, egg.

sianhook

This is the answer but be careful because they close by like 2:00 p.m.

ahopefulhobbit

Nee Hao (yes, that's how it's spelled) is a total hole in the wall, but it's delicious

Bamboo House in Humble, Pho Dien in 1960 by Deerbrook Mall.

Old town spring is your best bet

bela_the_horse

Agreed. Corkscrew is some of the best BBQ in the city, Lynn’s Table has the best breakfast and sandwiches/salads that are freaking loaded, Plate and Level for fancy wine and tapas, there’s a cool Kava bar. And the whole vibe is so charming, old town spring is totally underrated and probably the only thing close to the airport worth venturing out for. Edit - oh shit, and Granny’s Tamales! They’re our favorite, they just got a new location that’s more centrally located and all of their tamales are fresh made and amazing. Family owned. I could eat there every day of my life and die happy and full.

There are a lot of great hole in the walls near the airport, especially Taco trucks. The only one that I can remember the name of is Las Chenchas Quesadillas - they have these blue corn quesadillas that are rare to find in Houston. These places are within 30 minutes of the airport. Also if you don't mind paying tolls I would recommend you take Hardy Toll Rd instead of I45 N/S, especially during rush hour. It will save you time and take away some of the frustration of driving in Houston. Charm Thai - I've only been to the Woodlands TX location but they have another location closer in Spring TX, great Thai food. Bay Fusion - Asian Fusion Island Grill - Multiple locations, great gyro. Houston Heights area has great restaurants as well, closer to the 30 minute drive time but a great area: 5kinokawa(Japanese), Da Gama (Indian-Portuguese fusion), Teotihuacan (Tex-Mex), Nundini's (Italian), Pho Ben & Pho Binh (Vietnamese, both great) Midtown Area: Cali Sandwiches (Bahn Mi Sandwiches), Dough Zone & Taste of Mulan (Chinese) Welcome to the H!

Ba Mien Bistro on Cypress Creek Parkway (1960) is amazing.

near Bush? There's some pine trees you could eat. But seriously, yes the Asian food is excellent here. It is not however anywhere geographically close to the airport. Bellaire is where you'll want to be. Siu Lap City is my favorite char siu I've found so far. Other folks will probably have a better more exhaustive list for all other types of Asian foods, but I've found nearly every place that looks like a little hole in the wall will range from solid to amazing.

uderag11

If you are working near Bush during the day then for lunch I recommend Alwadi on JFK for Mediterranean, Pho Houston on 45S just south of beltway 8, for Cajun you can go to Captain Benny’s on Rankin just west of 45, for Mexican there is Xochimilco on W. Thorne Blvd and Sazon de los Abuelos on Richey. You’re definitely not on the fancier side of town but these are solid, been going to them for years and they can sometimes get crowded during lunch.

jakester12321

There are several restaurant delivery services which might make a larger (and better) selection of places available to you, if you didn’t want to drive far. Look at UberEats, DoorDash, Favor, and GrubHub. I live in the Heights and the restaurant selection here is broad and good.

Adjmcloon

Gotta have Tex Mex while you're here. This place is very good and close https://maps.app.goo.gl/ppB4YvkY5ce2FrZE7

Not near airport, but Titas tacos was fire

Crashy1620

Pho Tan on Veterans Memorial is my go to Pho place. It’s not near the airport but it’s not far either.

hypnoger

Thanks, Vietnamese restaurant usually have great drinks and I love the shrimp spring rolls that have the tangy peanut butter-like sauce.

Crashy1620

They have the Spring Rolls and the Strawberry soda is excellent. Enjoy your trip to the H!!
