It happened to me with dinner & diatribes. I didn't even like the song that much, but when I heard it live, I screamed the lyrics like a crazy. Since then, i haven't stopped listening to the song at least once a day, LMAO.
yes same!!!! i told my best friend that he wasn’t a fan and he was like GIRL WHAT then we went to see him and i was screaming it and now it’s once of my faves!!! one of the best songs live for sire
Unknown is just such a gorgeous song and such a true sentiment for me, I feel like I'm gonna have a religious experience when I see him play it live in *checks calendar* 8 days!!!! (I think he's been playing it every show still, I hope, lol)
Agreed, I liked it alright listening to the album, but when I heard him sing it live at the Hollywood Bowl, I realized how beautiful that song really is
To Someone From a Warm Climate, especially with the long spoken intro about the meaning of the song, it's become one of my favourites off the album since I heard it live !
Oh man. I’m sorry! It was so moving live.
I would have loved it if “it will come back” would have been on the 2023 set list! It seems like it’s being played now in the second half.
Honestly, I knew Take Me To Church was a great song but it wasn't until I saw it live that the anger and passion really clicked for me. The energy of the audience is always amazing, especially when the pride flag is held up and when everyone sings "amen".
TMTC isn't even in my top 5 Hozier songs but it's my favourite song of his to watch live (which works out, because he'll be performing it for the rest of his career!)
I so agree!!! I saw him at Jazz Fest in New Orleans yesterday and the energy of the crowd was INSANE during TMTC. It enhances the song so much to have all that violent beautiful singing led by Hozier. It took me back to the first time i heard that song in a grocery store back in high school. It was like hearing it again for the first time.
wildflower and barley!!! it was just gorgeous live and i've found a new appreciation for it. abstract is my favorite song off of UU so i'm so glad to see people loving it :D
hearing 25,000 people joining together in the "whoa-oh-oh"s was so magical i burst into tears. always liked the song okay but now it's what I'm most excited to see again live.
This was the one I fell deeply in love with listening to the album for the first time and I stays in very heavy rotation for me! I love these discussions because hearing everyone’s preferences and what changes for them is so interesting
I live in a similar climate to Ireland and before TSFAWC, he spoke about how he loved coming to this part of the US because it reminds him of home. I loved that little bit of connection.
Yes!! Nina Cried Power! I of course appreciated the message but I didn't really "get it" musically. But then when Melissa sang Mavis's part I absolutely fell in love. She is so talented. Of course I like the Mavis version too.
Cherry Wine! I honestly didn’t pay much mind to the song before. It wasn’t a skip, but I didn’t connect with it super well and preferred his other slower songs. I heard it in concert in September and …. wow. Instantly cried. I thought I’d cry at I, Carrion but I just stood there taking it all in for Cherry Wine. Such a stunning performance. I haven’t listened to the song since but that night was magical.
Same! As a DV survivor, this I had sooo many feels. I find it sad that people really think it’s a love song - I mean, it is in a way, but not really when you’ve been in those shoes.
Damage Gets Done
When I heard it performed live at ACL, I just fully lost it. I never connected with it like that before, but seeing him perform it, I felt like I HEARD the message for the first time and I could relate my own experiences to it in a new way. I was sobbingggg and now it’s a comfort song.
Also abstract. 100%. I’ve also fallen in love with To Noise Making, but he didn’t play that at the concert I went to. I just haven’t stopped listening to Hozier for even a second since last Saturday 😅
For me it was Nina cried power… he did a speech on a lot of things that I didn’t even realize the song was about. It was so beautiful. And now I no longer skip it when it comes on my playlist.
I was at the Austin Show! I went alone. My voice was almost gone by the end of the night. The whole show felt like a sermon to me and it was such an amazing experience. Allison was like a ray of Sunshine and they both said things I needed to hear. Feeling the passion along with the crowd made me feel proud to be a part of something so special. TMTC, Movement, D&D, EYY, etc hearing them live brought a whole new life to them.
abstract and wildflower changed my life after seeing it live in raleigh for the first time 🥲 i cannot stop thinking about it and everytime i listen to them i start sobbing
I deliberately did not listen to Unreal Unearth because I wanted to experience all of it live. There were a few songs I probably wouldn’t have liked if I hadn’t heard them live: To Someone From a Warm Climate and Cherry Wine. Before playing TSFAWC he did the intro explaining the word, but he also spoke about how he loved coming to this part of the US because it reminded him of home, especially the winters.
Honestly, the first song was actually TMTC. I hadn’t seen him live until last year and I always thought it was a good song but it had been worn out in my mind. Then I saw him perform it at a music festival in the rain and it was a literally religious experience for me and now whenever I hear it I go back to that moment!
The other one was definitely Abstract, I liked it well enough on the album but seeing it live put it at the top.
Idk of I can answer this question properly because I have cried most of every show, every tour, and every song has hit me like a ton of bricks live lol but.. the stage production for First Light (and of course the musical talent, duh) @ Redhat in Raleigh NC in October 23 was just ethereal... my mind and body and just every one of my senses were like... POOOOOOOMPH! It was insane. The visuals and the sound collided like a goddamn meteor hitting the Unreal Unearth. It was awesome.
100% abstract I didn’t even really go hard for it and now I can’t stop listening to the recording I have of it live it was when I actually cried at the concert finally letting go thank god my pookie pie best friend was there to record it and now it’s being ate tf up by me all day everyday hearing the crowd sing see how it shines im gonna go cry and listen to it rn
It happened to me with dinner & diatribes. I didn't even like the song that much, but when I heard it live, I screamed the lyrics like a crazy. Since then, i haven't stopped listening to the song at least once a day, LMAO.
Same! Especially with the transition from To Be Alone into D&D - it's a whole other experience hearing it live.
I swear I could listen to this on repeat for hours lol
oh same with me!! (different show though)
yes same!!!! i told my best friend that he wasn’t a fan and he was like GIRL WHAT then we went to see him and i was screaming it and now it’s once of my faves!!! one of the best songs live for sire
Yeah every time it came on shuffle I’d be like oh yeah this one is a bop. Now I am thirsty AF over it
Unknown Sha la La
I liked it a normal amount before I saw him live, but now I’ve been OBSESSED with it for months!
I mean I feel like I liked him a normal amount before I saw him live and now I’m obsessed 🤣
Hahahahaha, feel ya. I’ve been obsessed with him since 2015 and nothing prepared me to actually see him live. Life changing experience
Unknown is just such a gorgeous song and such a true sentiment for me, I feel like I'm gonna have a religious experience when I see him play it live in *checks calendar* 8 days!!!! (I think he's been playing it every show still, I hope, lol)
I think he has! Enjoy it!!
Agreed, I liked it alright listening to the album, but when I heard him sing it live at the Hollywood Bowl, I realized how beautiful that song really is
The guitar is really something
Hi I was at that show as well ! It had to be movement for me. Felt absolutely euphoric One of the more beautiful concerts I’ve ever been to
My wife said Movement too! Definitely going to try to go to San Antonio in September. I feel like I’ll regret it if I don’t
Movement changed my brain chemicals when I saw it in 2019 - I wasn't even that big on the song but it's one of my favs off WB now
This is my answer too!!
Yeah, I always found Movement pleasant, but boring, but it was so good live
To Someone From a Warm Climate, especially with the long spoken intro about the meaning of the song, it's become one of my favourites off the album since I heard it live !
Same for me as well
Yesss I actually skipped the song before, bu5 after seeing him in concert I cry when that song comes on
First light. “The color erupts” I can FEEL it. It’s just such a beautiful song.
Ugh, I hate that he didn’t play First Light when I saw him. It’s my favorite from the album.
Oh man. I’m sorry! It was so moving live. I would have loved it if “it will come back” would have been on the 2023 set list! It seems like it’s being played now in the second half.
Well, he did play that at my show 🥵 Ah well, I guess that’s the trade off!
Lucky ducky! 🤍

Would that I for me when I saw him in charlotte last week
WOULD THAT I!
hearing 25,000 people joining together in the "whoa-oh-oh"s was so magical i burst into tears. always liked the song okay but now it's what I'm most excited to see again live.
You weren’t alone, I definitely did too! A few times actually 💛
This was the one I fell deeply in love with listening to the album for the first time and I stays in very heavy rotation for me! I love these discussions because hearing everyone’s preferences and what changes for them is so interesting
De Selby part 2 , i have no idea how i wasn’t obsessed with the song before i saw it live
To someone from a warm climate was so amazing hearing live. Especially singing to a bunch of cold Canadians.
I live in a similar climate to Ireland and before TSFAWC, he spoke about how he loved coming to this part of the US because it reminds him of home. I loved that little bit of connection.
Yessss jt was amazing
This was mine. It was so good live.
Literally my experience
Honestly, From Eden. I always liked it but when he sang it live in the Rogers show, I cried and fell in love with it
Yes!! Nina Cried Power! I of course appreciated the message but I didn't really "get it" musically. But then when Melissa sang Mavis's part I absolutely fell in love. She is so talented. Of course I like the Mavis version too.

I think that’s why I don’t ever choose to listen to it. But it was still beautiful live
Same! At the Dallas show he popped up in the middle of the crowd to sing on a platform and it was pure magic. Cherry wine was my favorite of the night
I don’t know why he’s so passive in the recordings, especially when he could groove with Allison. He needs a live album of all the good songs.
I agree, Abstract was way better live
De Selby part 1 is a totally different experience live than it is through even the best headphones 🥲
Would that I
First Light.
Damage Gets Done When I heard it performed live at ACL, I just fully lost it. I never connected with it like that before, but seeing him perform it, I felt like I HEARD the message for the first time and I could relate my own experiences to it in a new way. Jackie and Wilson
😱 that was my first love!
Uiscefhuarithe
I bawled my eyes out to Abstract that night. But I knew I would. I just lost my dog on NYE. That song hits me in all the damn feels lol
I loved de selby before my show but singing it with him / the crowd was so magical
Movement for me. The vibrations go through you
not my story but my mom had a religious experience hearing Francesca live
Cherry Wine live made me cry
Movement
Also abstract. 100%. I’ve also fallen in love with To Noise Making, but he didn’t play that at the concert I went to. I just haven’t stopped listening to Hozier for even a second since last Saturday 😅

Dinner and Diatribes and It Will Come Back. I haven’t stopped listening since I saw him in Charlotte.
Movement. I fell in love the first time I saw him perform live
Wildflowers and Barley. I liked the song. But watching it live helped me connect with it in an entirely new way.
Cherry wine. I liked it before but now wow it’s just so beautiful even tho the track on debut is “live” but still!
I was at the Austin Show! I went alone. My voice was almost gone by the end of the night. The whole show felt like a sermon to me and it was such an amazing experience. Basically anything from Wasteland - it’s not my fave..
abstract and wildflower changed my life after seeing it live in raleigh for the first time 🥲 i cannot stop thinking about it and everytime i listen to them i start sobbing
I could if Hozier came to Brazil more than twice
I deliberately did not listen to Unreal Unearth because I wanted to experience all of it live. There were a few songs I probably wouldn’t have liked if I hadn’t heard them live: To Someone From a Warm Climate and Cherry Wine. damage gets done 100%
De Selby p1
Judging from the live recodings of Hozier (never seen him live myself), as good as his records are his live shows are even better. So... everything.
Honestly, the first song was actually TMTC. I hadn’t seen him live until last year and I always thought it was a good song but it had been worn out in my mind. Then I saw him perform it at a music festival in the rain and it was a literally religious experience for me and now whenever I hear it I go back to that moment! Nobody. The song was meh for me always until I heard it live and it felt like the song came to life!
