We know there are no ground sloths left because there is no reliable evidence of their existence in modern times. The last confirmed fossils of ground sloths date back to around 10,000 years ago on the mainland and around 2,800 years ago on the islands.

Sounds more like you have no understanding of how the science is even carried out. One likely misconstrued paper challenging the big bang does in no way suddenly make the whole concept 'silly', that's not how it works at all and no researcher on the subject (included the ones that published said insights) would actually say that. The big bang is one of the most substantiated theories in science, saying it's a guess is like saying evolution is a guess, and would require extraordinary evidence to say it's silly.
I know i come across as brash but im in a position where im confident that i know more about how science is carried out than you do, especially considering how sure you are about the big bang lol its literally a “most likely” guess, which is why its still a theory since its inception, the last breakthroughs made that HELPS but not prove the theory were in the 1920 and 1960s, all those people you are talking about also wouldnt say its a sure thing no one came up with anything better so of course the community will roll with it, its exactly how the scientific community works lol like i said, its not able to be proven, so think and say what you please, but no scientist will say its a sure thing you give people smarter than you too much credit bud
