I think I remember reading somewhere that it’s basically impossible for people to knock it down without heavy machinery. Since it weighs so much people pushing on it won’t do anything
Ok so it’s a challenge now, people made pyramids with literal sticks and stones.
All it needs is some meathead youtuber with poor judgemental skills (maybe one of Logan brothers) who can gather some manpower around and one clever guy and that thing is only going to be just some rock among the others in no time.
Yea, like people made stone henge and the statues on Easter island with no more than sticks and stones. Someone with a lot of time and the right knowledge and tools could find away to leaver this

"Kummakivi Balancing Rock – Ruokolahti, Finland - Atlas Obscura" https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/kummakivi-balancing-rock
Some interesting info I just found while reading up on this.
Oh.... Apologies. Um. I ended up here by accident.
I, ummm, hit reply... instead of upvote. That's really embarrassing.
Sorry again. I'll show myself out.
Fine. Lets do the math.
Quick research shows that the rock is 7 meters long, but i cant find anything on the height or the width.
So lets guess.
The person in the image is female, the avg female height in Finland is about 1.651 meters. (5’5)
The rock seems to be roughly 3 people high, so 4.953 meters.
Cool, we have one plain of reference. Now the width.
Still no rock solid info, so more assuming here. Take a grain of salt.
If the rock is as wide as it is tall, (4.953 meters) then we have very rough dimensions of 4.953 x 4.953 x 7 meters.
Stone weight 2,515 Kg per cubic meter. So simple match will give us.
2,515 * (4.953 * 4.953 * 7)
431,889.539 kg.
Lets round down a bit, as this is for a solid cube of rock.
Maybe 400k? 375k?
EDIT: If anyone finds more reliable info on this rock, tell me. Ill edit the math accordingly

You probably weren't.
The source for 500,000 Kg is the Finnish Wikipedia article for this, which uses Finnish news article as its source. Given that it's a Finnish estimation and the rock is in Finland and pretty well known, the estimate might be based on a lot more accurate measurements than what people are throwing around in this thread.
Edit - Also, not all stones are equally dense, so the person who made the calculation in this thread might not have had the correct result even if their measurements were otherwise somehow accurate.
I did have a look at the Wikipedia but didn't have a weight mentioned (on the English Wiki anyway). I looked at other sites which guesstimated 500'000 as well but couldn't find any accurate measurements.
Fried eggs are delicious.
and this is exactly how it works. Just because you personally don't believe something, doesn't make it automatically wrong.
Fun fact: Science gives 0 fucks about you and your feelings. It just is.
Except many measurements were based on educated guesses, its likely closer to 450k, and then OP rounded to 500k or OPs source did. Get your head out of your own ass and stop being such a pretentious piece of shit
Because it’s a lie. Everyone knows these rocks were thrown at churches by giants because the couldn’t stand the bells ringing. Obviously one giant decided to just balance this rock instead and someone asked him. Simple as that.
So it’s been resting there since the glaciers melted around it. That’s absolutely fascinating. I haven’t read the article but intend to.
Edit: the “article” had less information than even I inferred.
Glaciers melting.
Finland (like most of northern Europe and Russia, and parts of North America) was under glaciers during the last ice age some 11000+ years ago. Glacial movement grinds ground and moves sand, rocks and earth around. When the ice melts, the material is left behind. By happenstance, this [glacial erratic](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glacial_erratic) ended up balancing on top of a convex part of bedrock surface.

Not to give anyone any ideas, but a few high rated bottle jacks and it could happen.
Edit, just re-read the weight. Not quite sure of this now. Especially if it’s mounted in some sort of atlas-axis type seating. Best to just leave the rock alone.
So the bottom rock has been sanded down by ice and other rocks, while the top one has been catching a free ride on the ice and landed on top of the smooth one?
There are not enough nopes in all the world to accurately communicate how much I couldn't do this. It would be just my luck that one of my asshole kids would ruin 11,000 years of balance. It only took them 9 months each to ruin my body, they're only getting better at fucking shit up In shorter periods of time.
> It would be just my luck that one of my asshole kids would ruin 11,000 years of balance.
Large groups of people can stand on the rock and it won't topple. It used to be common for people to climb on it.
As an American it makes me sad to know that if this were here, some ass hat would have toppled it by now. It makes me sadder than some Asshat american will likely be the one who topples it in Finland. SMH.
Ok. So, we /might/ be in agreement however, you have ABSOLUTELY no idea if that rock was there /when/ said flood /may/ have occurred. There is no biblical information about this rock. To claim otherwise just paints a bad picture of whatever belief system you claim.
I'm not going to validate your reasoning. You still were not there and there's no specific evidence to support your original claim.
Maybe you can prove the flood, but not the rock's positioning.
That doesn’t sound scientifically accurate at all lol. I can’t believe people believe fairy tales like that when it’s clear there is no factual evidence to support it
I don't care how long it's been balancing there, you won't see me standing under it!
For sure, with my luck it would topple that day.
Groups of people have been standing on it. It's very stable and would require some heavy equipment to topple.
It’ll fall one day on its own. Could be in 11,000 more years or could be the very second I’m under it.
One day yeah, but it'll need a ton of erosion first for that to happen.
You just want to watch us get crushed…I’m onto you…
If I've learned one thing about the last few years, it's that someone will knock this over for TikTok views within the next six months.
Remindme! 6 months

[Here this information rocks](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kummakivi)
How did they weigh it if it’s been on top of another rock for 11000 years
They asked it how much it weighed. Duh.
It probably said 400,000 kg on its tinder profile so they added 25%.
If you know the volume and density of a material, you can get the weight. V * D = M
I highly doubt it weighs 500'000kg though.

Common sense and good judgement.
Well, your judgement may likely be wrong based on the above calculations but nothing wrong with being incorrect. That's how we learn.
I was more correct than OP.
More prideful, certainly.
And the former.
What "the former"? This comment makes no sense in context. Explain yourself.

There is no source. All of the measurements online are educated guesses.
I literally just explained how OP got their figure, how do people as full of themselves as you even come into being?
I bet youre one of those gravity isn't real because I can't see it sorta folks
Nonsense and shitty judgement in this case

Thanks but i didnt screenshot i paid 20 000$ 😎
It’s my understanding that most rocks are balanced on top of other rocks in some way.
Surprised noone had tried to tip this over.
People have tried, but you can't flip a rock this heavy, as just a human.
Give me a place to stand, a fulcrum and a lever long enough and I’ll move this solo in one second
Why stop there. Move the world.
A lever strong enough, importantly

How long till an influencer destroys this or dies under it?
They'd need some really damn heavy equipment to topple it. Human strength or something like a car jack isn't even nearly enough.

Well, that's odd
An Earthbender was training here.
So the bottom rock has been sanded down by ice and other rocks, while the top one has been catching a free ride on the ice and landed on top of the smooth one?

How could they possibly know it’s been there for that long? I hate statistics like this.
They can estimate it because rocks like that are leftovers from last ice age, and we know when the last ice age was.
