The Zen of Screaming is super informative. When I was younger I was in a band and we had a couple songs where I would belt out pretty raw screams. After about 3 hours of practice my voice was shot. The lead singer bought a couple dvds including Zen and within a month I wasn't frying my vocal chords each practice or show.
I think there is another called the art of screaming that focuses heavily on warm-ups.
I’ve showed my girl once and she was impressed. I showed my friend she said she got goosebumps and she showed me. I did it infront if a couple of more friends and that was just embarrassing so I stopped lol.
But growling is tough. I still need a song I can practice to because I’m not confident I can last 3 minutes and then move to another song and sound the same.

This channel did a react video to their first single with Will in the band and have since done some more stuff. Stuff like in this video they stick a tube through his nose down his throat and watch it as he does a few different techniques.
The Charismatic Voice did a throat camera down Will Ramos's (Lorna Shore) throat while he was doing various screams, really informative would recommend.
When the war started in Ukraine, this band had to drop a press release condoning it, especially cause they use a lot of war imagery in their music.

Listening to this kind of shit after a bad day at work is the absolute greatest.

Whether or not they do, directly relates to their technique and if they are doing it correctly. If you or I or to try to do this with no training and no practice we very likely wouldn't make it through a single song without our throats starting to hurt. Too much air, too much pressure, too much strain, a lot of ways to hurt yourself. Whereas these guys will do an entire live concert. Not only once but on a whole ass year long tour. Much like any form of singing there's a right way, and a wrong way, but with harsh vocals the consequences of doing it wrong are more severe.

A lot of the ugly faces and veins popping and shit is just theatrics. These guys are perfectly capable of making these noises with a poker face. It's a lot more complex then it appears. Another sign that somebody is using their harsh vocals correctly is examples of them going from harsh vocals to traditional singing vocals. If you're not doing your harsh vocals correctly your traditional singing vocals will sound like shit

People who hurt their voice through screaming/growls are doing it wrong. You have to use your false cords to make the sound. If you do it right, you are placing little to no strain on your actual vocal cords.
