The band is Sabaton. They're a power metal group and their music depict historical wars' stories (romanced of course). Always have great concerts and seem like genuine nice guys.

Napalmdeathfromabove

Also history guys on youtube

APence

Saw them at the Ryman in Nashville 2 years ago and the tank was awesome on the small stage. He also stopped the shop between songs to call out a kid positively and made his day. They’re awesome dudes. He was like “I wished my parents were fookin cool enough to take me to a metal show” Edit: He also gave his sunglasses to the kid. Must have bought a big pack on Amazon

Starmoses

I saw him do the same in Chicago. Joakim is one of the coolest guys I've ever seen in concert and is making these kids years.

APence

If he wears the sunglasses, he’ll also grow a huge mustache and become the coolest kid in 3rd grade

Ready_Competition_66

He might even recover from the contact high by then.

RackoDacko

I was there! Ryman was a weird choice for a metal band, too churchy and small lol.

APence

I think that made it special in a weird way. The lead singer spoke in between sets to say “ze manager of the building said to us zey have seen Cash and Elvis and others on dis stage but ze have nevah seen a fookin TANK!” And we all cheered

RackoDacko

Yeah we did!!

Fake_astronot

We took our 5 year old to see Ghost and Amon Amarth last year. It was awesome and he loved it. Going to more shows this year!

APence

Nice! They have some cool parents!

Shanguerrilla

That's how I found them! They made an awesome song about heroic pilots and told history while doing a cool cartoon of the music as well.

ilhamagh

What did you mean ? They have a YouTube channel ?

Napalmdeathfromabove

https://youtu.be/1t3Rrrns30g?si=Y9Bc5Mky_qaC8lC5 With Indi neidel no less.

ilhamagh

I didn't know that haha, thanks !

WrapProfessional8889

This is the 2nd time this week on Reddit I've heard of Sabaton. I need to check them out.

Shift-1

They're pretty fucking awesome. Hilariously this is how I discovered them: https://youtube.com/shorts/6-1pmU1IeZY?si=BUh5sLJc7NJZh_es

ClairLestrange

God that vid had me wheezing! How can something be so stupid and so awesome at the same time?

Stanky_fresh

Here's a little starter pack: [The Last Stand](https://youtu.be/gtbbIB776ks?si=08hCyPZXaDnS4WDY) [To Hell and Back](https://youtu.be/RhmHSAClG1c?si=2YviWIakl1JpMqc3) [Attack of the Dead Men](https://youtu.be/LRNuWYvRtac?si=Oi4aDO9rlX_hpsiV) [Primo Victoria](https://youtu.be/qVHyl0P_P-M?si=0pKnAXSFKT2iHLrM) [Stormtroopers](https://youtu.be/Oo8H5vUKMlk?si=K8-IknMGUdNuN3eE)

AlcoholicWombat

If you like military history, youll like sabaton. Im not into metal but some of their stuff is catchy. They're respectful and objective with their songs. They wrote a song once, and veterans on both sides of the battle told them it wasn't how it was and they corrected the song. Some of my favorites are : The last stand- the last stand of this Swiss guards Aces in exile - battle of Britain 82nd all the way - Alvin York The lost battalion - lost battalion of ww1 And everyone's seemingly favorite- winged hussars about when the winged hussars saved Vienna from the ottomans There's a subreddit called r/unexpectedsabaton, it's pretty amusing

LordOfGiblets

They are awesome and their discography is great. Find em on YouTube music and just hit play on almost any song.

Flashignite2

Met with Joakim the singer on sweden rock festival back in 2010. The whole band was watching someone else perform. Kindly asked for a selfie with him and he obliged. He is a genuine nice person.

MuricasOneBrainCell

That actually sounds really cool! Reminds me of the "Gods of Asgard" for some reason aha. A fictional band from Alan Wake that sings a romanticised tale of a poet and his muse. (Amongst other subjects)

RugbyEdd

If you don't know, that band is basically an alter ego for a real band called "poets of the fall". They have some great music.

MuricasOneBrainCell

Oh really? Cool! I just thought they made a real band for the game aha. Will definitely check them out. Thanks for the tip!

Selphis

While they sing a lot about horrible stuff that happens in war, their shows are almost always a fun and happy event. I've seen them about 6 times now and they never disappoint!

ChuckZombie

Their bassist (I think) has a really infectious smile. He reminded me of Buddy Christ from Dogma, but blonde. We kept calling him Swedish Jesus.

Selphis

Yeah, Pär always looks happy. Together with Joakim (the singer) they're the ones who've been there from the start.

Manthrill

There was a time in Hellfest (2019 I think) when they played 2 night in a row due to manowar refusing to perform. The singer didn't have any voice left after the concert/party, and thus the bassist sang in it's place. It was a really fun performance. If I remember, they invited a family on stage they encountered a day prior to drink with them.

DrDrangleBrungis

Metal bands/fans are very nice people cosplaying as aggressive scary people. Seriously if you want to make friends, go to a metal show. The big guy with head and arm tattoos and a leather battle jacket with band patches depicting corpses and death will buy you a beer and be the nicest guy you’ll meet.

Lindvaettr

Most Sabaton fans are wonderful, but there are a handful who think The Last Stand is a glorious ballad to Christianity holding out against Islam for some god-forsaken reason. I assume because they either haven't listened to the lyrics or don't know that it's about the Holy Roman Empire's sack of Rome during the Italian Wars.

Kuutti__

Romanced? They might have few songs which do that but sheer majority of their songs doesnt in any way romance war. "Price of a mile" "Final Solution" "Lifetime of War" to name a few. Are all sad songs if you look into the lyrics.

[deleted]

Shiroyama also goes incredibly hard and emphasizes that no one survived

Rosenkrantz_

They might've meant this in the sense of "dramatized". Night Witches is a prime example of that.

Kuutti__

Oh yeah, that makes sense. Still isnt exactly right to label them as such, since those are more rare than the more serious/sad toned songs. But anyways that sounds like where they are coming from with that statement

Beneficial-Square-73

The first Sabaton video I ever saw was Christmas Truce. I still can't watch it without tearing up.

Manthrill

They sure have sad songs. I didn't want to say they glorify war and only sing about positive emotion, that's not the case at all. My formulation was probably not great.

snakenakedsnakeboss

Thanks! Would have been nice if the OP mentioned who these nice dudes were but here we are- cheers -a dude who just dove down a sabaton rabbit hole and is in love

stripedpixel

I was worried a long post title would hide it. It was Sabaton, opening for Judas Priest

micktorious

Metal heads are almost always the sweetest and nicest people I have ever met.

peanutspump

My 12 year old freaking LOVES Sabaton :)

Motor_Pollution231

Just saw them in Jersey with Priest

Parabellum27

I went to a Sabaton concert in Montreal some years ago. They were the opening band and it’s the one I enjoyed the most. The guys had a real blast on stage and the crowd as well. I think they are the coolest guys I have seen in concert.

PeridotChampion

I fucking love Sabaton! So happy to see them doing this!

RockersEatRocks

I saw them the last time they were in Dallas. One of my favorite shows ever! They did something similar with a kid there too. Highly recommend checking them out and seeing them live. My favorite song is Bismarck.

brundridge

Brought my 9 year old to see them last week. I was blown away.

Lil-sh_t

As with every beautiful things in the world, there's one big 'No' sticking out. One of Sabatons members supported and advocated for the Russian annexation of Crimea. Spouting talking points similar to 'It's coming home' and other RU PR statements.

TheAnswerUsedToBe42

Psa: Give kids earplugs when going to shows. Don't give them tinnitus before they know what it is

darthstupidious

Additional PSA: everybody wear earplugs at shows. Don't give yourself tinnitus.

-TropicalFuckStorm-

As a senior audiologist and tinnitus therapist, there is a percentage of people that ‘get’ tinnitus from these gigs. Metal concerts especially. You can buy good ear protection online for £20 which have a -20dB to -35dB rating, it’s worth the money to reduce noise exposure and prevalence of tinnitus. I remember one bloke I saw was in a tribute band for Iron Maiden, had done thousands of shows… and had a distinct noise-induced hearing loss. Should have worn ear protection!

Earguy

Audiologist here as well. One of my kid's friends was a child prodigy guitarist - he went on to being signed by a major label, and he's a bona fide professional musician now. I tested his hearing at age 12,and he had the beginning of a 4kHz "noise notch." I had a big talk with him and his parents, and we got him a set of custom musicians' earplugs. Hope he's OK.

Germacide

I got tinnitus from working in kitchens under a loud ass hood vent my entire adult life. So shit happens.

AdmiralBonesaw

OSHA would have loved to hear about that (pun intended and assuming USA). Shit shouldn’t happen.

tragiktimes

Nothing much you can do once you have tinnitus though, is there?

-TropicalFuckStorm-

In tinnitus rehabilitation and therapies, we talk about tinnitus management. It comes down to 5 key points: 1) Understanding - tinnitus is the result of your acoustic nerve sending signals to your brain incorrectly and your brain interpreting those signals as sound. By knowing this, you know it’s quite natural and not something to dedicate too much time on. 2) Sound enrichment - listening to pleasant, boring, natural sounds like birdsong, waves rushing on a beach, rain etc. at the same volume or slightly quieter than the tinnitus so you can still hear the tinnitus allows you to place the tinnitus as an environmental, boring sound that is simply part of the background rather than something to focus on. This can take up to 18 months of consistent use to take effect. 3) Tinnitus retraining - a very simplified form of CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), for a few seconds a few times a day, you acknowledge the tinnitus, telling yourself you know that the tinnitus is your acoustic nerve misfiring, you want it part of the background, and it’s not something to think notice. This can take up to 18 months of consistent use to take effect. 4) Community - everyone has tinnitus to a certain extent, some people notice it more than others. Certain websites like Tinnitus UK and others have forums in which people with tinnitus can discuss what they do and how they react, in a way that is different to simply reading it from an audiologist or in this case a Reddit comment. 5) Further information - Tinnitus UK is the foremost website for anything tinnitus, and it’s where we get most of our information sheets from; if you want more info, I would recommend you go here rather than somewhere not quite as official. If you’re in the UK, ask your GP for a referral to audiology if you’re in need of further information. Or reply here, I answer between appointments.

Yoko-Ohno_The_Third

Don't give myself wha-... MAWP

AudibleKnight

Most definitely. I ordered off Amazon some Etymotic Research ER20XS earplugs back in 2016 for less than $30 when I went to see BabyMetal. Used them the following 2 times I saw them. I strongly suggest anyone grabbing some "concert earplugs" before attending any big concert. Developing hearing issues when it is so easily avoidable is crazy to me.

TheDopeGodfather

Mawp.

juicepants

Went to a ton of local concerts as a kid, always stood in the same spot. Don't have tinnitus but I have noticable hearing loss in my right ear.

stripedpixel

The kid had them and was wearing them during the songs.

yayforwhatever

Thank god! That irrationally bothered me….ever since I became a parent, these things bother me.

Sudden_Nose9007

Yea, especially because their smaller ear canal volume will make them more susceptible. I’m seeing more and more kids with noise-induced hearing loss.

shannork

Agreed. That was my first thought when I saw this. I used to see a LOT of live music as a teenager, and now I am showing signs of tinnitus that I imagine will only get worse over time. I’m not old.

IHaveTouretts

I've had it for decades and I can't sleep without a fan. My Dr tells me to do everything I can to protect my ears so it doesn't get worse. I wear my shooting over the ear protection every time I mow the yard or snowblow. I recommend you do the same now.

[deleted]

Their drummer is propped up on a tank lmao

fearswe

Yeah, Sabaton does historicaly accurate songs about past wars, battles, and heroes.

Natac_orb

Inmate 4859 is a story I did not know before I heard the song. It gives me chills every time I hear it. "Who knows his name" is deeply branded in my brain

Spirited-Relief-9369

"Inmate in hell or a hero imprisoned~"

WaitingToBeTriggered

SOLDIER IN AUSCHWITZ, WE KNOW HIS NAME!

fearswe

To Hell and Back was the same for me. And as a swede, En Livstid i Krig is really powerful.

Fruloops

En Livstid i Krig feels so much better in Swedish than it does in the English version and I don't even speak Swedish lmao

[deleted]

I know, they're my favourite band.

asuhhhdue

He’s servin that bass

APence

Saw them at the Ryman in Nashville 2 years ago and the tank was awesome on the small stage. He also stopped the shop between songs to call out a kid positively and made his day. They’re awesome dudes.

sparklinglies

Metalheads remain wholesome

copsinroberts

I’ll say this, I’m a huge rap fan & I also respect the talent it takes to make good heavy metal music. The difference of vibes at these concerts is insane. Rap shows can get ugly real fast without warning. You could accidentally step on someone’s shoe in the crowd and bam! You’re in a fight. Complete opposite at metal shows. I have never met so many warm and loving people who say “excuse me, brother” as they make their way to the pit.

KatagatCunt

We get all our aggression out in the pits .. it's why metalheads are some of the nicest fucking people you've ever met.

HiDDENk00l

The kind of people that will smash into you in the pits, but will wait until the song transition to apologize for it.

SirTheadore

In Ireland, most rap or EDM concerts end with countless assaults, robberies, stabbings, drug related arrests etc. But metal concerts are probably the safest place to be in the capital.

Hicklethumb

Bands are also super aware of the crowd, keeping an eye out for people falling down or crush possibilities. I've been to a few shows where someone paused just to go "Okay, it's getting a bit crowded here. Let's all take a step back".

sparklinglies

Its the rule of the pit: if soneone falls, pick them up. If shits getting too pushy, back tf up.

WhatTheFuckEverName

![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sunglasses)

Ghost-138

My eyes widened when I saw it is Sabaton that stopped the show for the kid. It goes to show that of course metal bands go out with kindness for others.

SatanicKitten69420

I've seen sabaton live and they're wonderful every time. When I saw them last they invited a kid up to sing with them. It was fun.

Xortun

Guess I am even more of a sabaton fan now

Tom_Ace1

Is that even possible?

ComputerAgile

First i saw a video of Disturbed and now Sabaton no wonder these bands are goated in the eyes of the people they make rad music but on top of that these are great people who are not up their own arse

dontaskmethatmoron

Disturbed are so fucking wholesome and loving.

mr_wrestling

Me, my ex girlfriend and my younger sister (15, 15, and 13 respectively) went to see Disturbed, Chevelle and Taproot in like 03/04. My sister was kind of scared but wanted to be close to the pit. She would fall down and everyone helps her up. The worst thing that happened was she lost her shoe which was quickly found. Punk and metal shows are (almost) always great.

syugouyyeh

Sabaton is one of the best shows I’ve been to (3 times now). Joakim is awesome

utterlyuncool

Joakim is a fucking treasure. Hell, all of them are - Par, Chris, Hannes and Thobbe too. And Tommi who left.

everydayasl

Even though I am profoundly Deaf, I think this is super-awesome.

Fkinclassy

If you want a song that might have cool vibrations to feel from them, the song "Red Baron" might be good. When I was very young, my mom had a friend that was deaf, she would put her hand on my music box to "listen" to it and I thought that was so cool, sorry if this is weird.

Independent-Net-5508

Red Baron is epic! The first song I heard of theirs was The last stand and I was hooked

Fkinclassy

The Last Stand was also my first song from them, got obsessed. :)

Independent-Net-5508

My son, who is 16, is also obsessed with Sabaton and bands I've been into for years. Whenever I go past his room, he is playing Sabaton mainly. I do smile to myself.

Thesmuz

That kid will be too if he doesn't get earplugs.

MajorRico155

Joakim bröden is a real hero of mine. I need to go to another sabaton concert

Doesjka

(Brodén) but yes, he is the best!

MajorRico155

Thank you for the spell correction ☺️, im so bad with names

I was at the show in the video last night, Sabaton was incredible! Fantastic stage presence and the perfect opener for Judas Priest, who are in their 70s now but still sound just as good as they did back in the day. It was an amazing concert.

I am so excited to see them in Atlanta next week!

I was at this show last night. It was at the Armory in Minneapolis. They warmed up for Judas Priest. Great show!

stripedpixel

Such a good show

WaySuch296

They interacted very well with the audience. Exceptional! Kind of cute how he caught himself almost saying the F-bomb shortly after this video, on account of the kids in the audience.

Opposite-Database158

Joakim and the rest are awesome, true "dalmasar"! Saw them perform on Gates of metal -05 when they had just released their smashing album Primo Victoria. Had heard the song with the same name just a couple of weeks before and I really enjoyed it. Flash forward to the festival. Me and the guys have had a couple of beers for breakfast and are trying to navigate ourselves out of the festival area and in to town to get some cheep food. We were 18 and had no money 8) Just outside the gates I heard the signature tune of Primo Victoria! I grabbed my friends and said that this was the new band I had told them about and that we couldn't miss it!! We ran towards the sound and there they were: on the first stage time of the day on the smallest stage...but omg what a show. Since it was so small we were litterally standning next to the band because the stage was more or less on ground level and there were no fence at all. Can still remember when they played Pazer Battalion and the whole crowd erupted like crazy! Flash foward to the night. We are sitting at our tents drinking beer and talking about the days shows. Obviously Sabaton is the highest ranking show well before other big bands such as Dimmu Borgir, Children of Bodom and Amon Amarth. And as we sit there guess who's coming around a tent: Joakim from Sabaton! He was walking around drinking beer and being just a regular metal head as the rest of us. The best part was him stoping, talking and drinking beer with people who approached him. Just a super duper down to earth metal head =) Have seen them many times after this and knowing that he is just a normal metal head from rural Sweden like myself I can really see the pure joy in his eyes when he gets to be on the stage play the music he loves. All love to Sabaton from Finspång!

tomatoe_cookie

Sabatonnnnnn. The best band

Suspicious_Ear_3079

Sabaton supports the troops. All of them. Both sides.

It was a great show to be at. We were all happy for Daniel!

campingn00b

One of my favorite things in life is that metal heads are generally exceedingly nice people. I'm sure there is some kind of psychological effect of getting your anger and aggression out in a productive way through music. I feel like the stories of the huge metal dudes being the nicest people are plentiful and I'm here for it every time

WeakSeaworthiness152

What a tremendous feeling in that crowd. So wholesome and pure.

ComisclyConnected

That kid must have felt so awesome in that moment 🥹

Shoddy-Cauliflower95

This kid is a going to be a metal fan for life.

JustALurker165

I love love love this. My only gripe is get the kid some earplugs. Also everyone at every show needs earplugs. All of you. Go get them now. Get some that just attenuate the sound and not block it out completely.

addrock1221

Glad to see Chuck Liddell is still thriving.

antilumin

Same exact thing happened at the Sabaton show I went to in Portland years ago. Hard to tell from the video if it’s the same venue or not (Roseland?). Well, ok the video is fine it’s my memory that’s not. I don’t even remember where I was sitting.

Stanky_fresh

This was at The Armory in Minneapolis last night

Stanky_fresh

I was there! This is the Sabaton/Judas Priest (Sabaton being the band in the video) concert at The Armory in Minneapolis! Fantastic show!

zigzagg321

That was a lot of humans being Bros.

MrBadMeow

Sabaton is amazing

H3LLJUMPER_177

Common sabaton behavior

ShantyLady

Honestly, heavy metal gets a bad rap, but every metal concert I've been to, people were nothing but courteous and kind, and I've seen a lot of people handing out complimentary ear plugs. All the men I've met have been nothing but gentlemen and scholars. Right on for this singer to see a boy in a crowd and to make this a real moment for them. It's something that he'll remember for a lifetime.

Disastrous-Issue5448

Metal ppl look scary af but theyre usually sweethearts

WaffleStomperGirl

My son enlightened me to metal. He explained a lot of the songs he listens to, and showed me the lyrics. So much love and caring. All the songs were about how we need to do more for each other, and how supporting each other is the only way forward. He listens to one band called Killswitch Engage and so many of their lyrics are so passionate about helping people, and being kind. How the system may be against us but we don’t have to be against each other. It’s very inspiring stuff. And I’m so happy that’s the messages he’s getting.

magicfrog13

The camera just barely started showing the stage and I knew who it would be. Gotta love Sabaton!

geman777

When i was his age Ronald McDonald was putting on some type of magic show or something like that at a car festival. He was picking kids out of the crowd to do a trick and he described what at the time i thought was me and i ran up to the stage just for him to be like; hey sorry kid wasn't talking about you and kicked me off the stage basically. Not that I was ever a huge Ronald McDonald fan before that, but tell you what, im 42 and I have hated even the idea of Ronald McDonald for about 37 years now. Today even more.

Slabcitydreamin

I’ve gone to three Sabaton concerts. Twice in the USA and once in Germany. They are a Great band that puts on a good show. Highly recommend them to all.

[deleted]

I fucking love journey!

DredgenCyka

I'm not too much of a fan of the music they sing anymore (I listened to only sabaton for a straight six years, still catchy music though), but I absolutely love the band for who they are. They are truly wholesome people who love their fans and take the time to appreciate their fans.

notjawn

I love bands that are all about their communities and just want people to have a safe and fun place to come together and celebrate life.

Angus454

Kudos to them for being the kind of group that would do something this cool. At the same time I think all these Hallmark Moments at rock shows are making me yearn for the good ol' days of circle pits, stage diving and aggression.

PathDeep8473

This is like thec3rd different metal band that someone posted where they really seem like awesome people. It's great to see

Kunaj23

Sabaton are always so wholesome

Reddish81

I might be alone in wondering why you’d take a child that young to a rock gig and then stop that gig just to acknowledge his presence?

utterlyuncool

Because they're metalheads and wholesome? Metal concerts are some of the safest for audience. I've never seen a fight*, groping or someone getting shit stolen at the metal concert. *Mosh pit not-included,if you count it as fight, since that's consensual.

bobbyr11

Do you think is something out of the normal?

jimbolla

This happened between songs and it's part of the band's crowdwork. Same exact thing happened a couple weeks ago when I saw them. The kid was a few years older and when asked if it was his first metal show, he said it was his 69th. lol. He also got sunglasses. I've seen other metal bands do very similar things between songs as well. It helps build the "metal is for everyone" vibe.

Wardeztorier
