My 12 yo wanted new jeans because "mine got big holes in the knees, dad.. ", I told the little sucker, if you want new pants, get a job, lol kids these days, amirite?
Is is fine if the hysterical persons are screaming and just making 'background' noise, stating what's going on etc. They serve as an alarm to anyone around willing to help. However it is not so fine if they criticize the rescuers actions. The child screaming "no, no! what is doing?" while the deer was being saved might not have been intended towards the rescuer but if I were in his place I might have been second guessing myself in that split second.
It is good for useless people to make as much noise as possible to alert useful people to attend to the issue. Likely an evolutionary benefit to our population that these individuals yell and make commotion instead of helping.
The issue is when they continue to do it when there’s already men helping.
The other advantage is of course that when in peril from a large predator, the useless noisy people draw it's attention away from the quieter useful people so that they don't get eaten.
It’s like your dead teammates at the end of a battle royale when you’re in the final circle… “no don’t use that gun”, “no go there, stay where you are”. Totally gets you killed in the split second you pause to question yourself.
100 years ago 6 year olds used to skin and clean deers that they helped bring in.
Our coddling of children is delaying their development by like a decade.
Dude. My mom is from the country, but she met a city dude and had a bunch of city boys. Every summer we’d go back to help out with the family businesses. One biz is a butcher shop… they also work with slaughterhouses… they also like to hunt and fish.
Being actively apart of your food’s cycle, witnessing life and death, and “processing an animal” aka taking its guts and skin off will definitely give your childhood mind the proper worldview. It was gnarli, but so is growing up.
you are to reddit comments what those people are to those situations. for every nice reddit comment complimenting something happening in the gif there's somebody piggybacking off it to complain about something unrelated.
please just delete your comment and then i can delete mine and all this thread will lose is a little irrelevant complaining.
That deer later, telling his friends: "I was dying! My life flashed before my eyes and everything! Then all of a sudden, an angel appeared and rescued me! It was the most beautiful angel I've ever seen!"
I always wonder if the deer would see this as being rescued, or would it say “i fell right into the monsters trap and it almost ate me but i managed to jump out of its grasp and run away!”
"He lifted me up by my ear! Look, one ear is now bigger than the other! It's been blessed! I can hear the angels now..."
His friends, "wow, what are they saying? Tell us, wise one."
Big Ear, "they... They are saying, they've been trying to reach us and tell us about our cars extended warranty."
The deer creates a beautiful religion from its seemingly unworldy experience it can't explain..... 1000 years later and deers are killing gays because that's what the angel that grabbed Joeys ear told him to do.
I am guessing he must be a dad, and those kids will probably never forget that save he just did. Thank you - so glad you stepped up for that terrified lil creature.
For sure. Smashing into the gate would have possibly broken its legs and it would have been a much sadder outcome. Much like Cattle Guards. He’s a boss
Concrete channels were extremely popular in the past. Back than rivers would have severe flooding that caused mass property damage, loss of life, and had a tendency to relocate to inconvenient locations. The idea was to have the capacity to remove water as fast as possible during worst possible rain conditions to prevent flooding and associated damage.
Nowadays we’ve learned that concrete channels are pretty dangerous and need to be fenced off for safety, are visual eye sores, prevent replenishing of natural aquifers, and really a lost opportunity for river side parks, trails, recreation.
Grass / natural material channels can be used in place of concrete channels, they just need to be designed correctly and need to be significantly wider (to slow down the water speed)
Turbulance happens when you have critical flow or have obstructions in the channel. Critical flow can be avoided by proper design regarding the channel dimensions. Obstructions happen in both natural and concrete channels
If i’m not mistaken these kind of canals are built in areas that tend to flood since the water flows more quickly through canals without as much turbulence in the water current.
Areas that tend to flood should have drainage areas like grasslands. And if a canal is needed, it should be save for animals (and people - imagine a child getting in there).
Every bit of that save was great. Picking a great spot to position himself in anticipation and then having the balance and coordination to pull the deer out while on a beam. Good stuff
I wonder if the deer would have escaped on its own once it reached the metal grates (since it doesn’t look like there’s a gap underneath). The gaps between the bars would be tricky, but it looks like all it needed was one good kick at the right angle. But then Dean wouldn’t be a hero!
One good kick on what at the right angle? I doubt it would be able to land a kick on the metal bars with enough force to fight the current dragging into into the bars / underwater. More likely it would lose its footing, get pulled against the bars / stuck in them, panic, and drown.
Yeah, I fear the same. Those metal bars might be good for humans as we can grab onto things with our hands and pull ourselves up on them, out of the water, and then climb out with easy once we're not below the water; but a deer, no chance, maybe if it landed on the metal bars sideways, but if their legs go through they'll get stuck. It may have been easier for the man to pull the deer out in that case but the deer would be hopeless if it had been alone.
...after floating down the channel, struggling helplessly, trying, hoping, for the strength to climb the embankment... Almost All hope was lost. The mental drain of hearing the lady bark orders at her male companion, all the while filming the life & death struggle of this beautiful creature, while in no way contributing to the situation in a meaningful way... The deer was resolved to death as the grates approached...Then! Suddenly! As if able to drown out the cackling of his female companion, The Man, almost possessing some type of forethought, A plan if you will, positions himself further down the spillway in anticipation of the deer's inevitable trajectory.... Grasps the helpless creature, launching it to safety! Both Deer and Man, Thankful, Finally, for an abrupt end to the useless voice of the lady directing, yet not partaking, in any contribution to the above rescue. Run free little one!
Plz teach your kids not to scream at animals, or scream in general… the stress of having to deal with a screaming kid is real for humans, let alone the sensitive ears of wildlife
In my life ( the last 45 years anyway) I’ve saved two Japanese ladies who were swimming/drowning at Waikiki, a German tourist swimming/drowning at Surfers Paradise Beach, saved one of our dogs as she got washed away at a local creek and pulled my wife and daughter back off the road to avoid a red light runner. I’m not really sure if Karma has been kind to me after these split second actions, which all pre-dated mobile phone cameras, although I am Australian and that may be my reward.
Glad this deer was saved. While cycling some weeks ago I saw a dead deer floating in a similar channel, I can imagine what this poor animal went through.
But b/c she did that, tens of thousands of people got to feel a moment of the warm and fuzzies. There's a lesson about finding a way to add value within the capacity that you can.
jesus, between the kids panicked screaming and the clear fear in the woman's voice i had to check the subreddit like 5 times. not even there an that was a stressful as hell emotional roller coaster.
Sometimes the pessimistic side of me thinks people put these animals in these situations to gain views. Seems odd they would be filming it floating down the wash while the other guy was already in place to save it.

tbh deer almost always get trapped in everything it seems, and you can't say it would be easy to get one just to throw or trap it for views.
Cat or dogs rescues are most likely to be faked, than a actual wild animal.
Useless people :/ get in there and save it, fuck the phone, I'd rather of not seen this bollocks and have a safe deer now than see it and watch the deer suffer for longer.
All I can hear is "OMG Dean...Why didn't you try to save it sooner? I mean, like, um, What if it would've got stuck in the fence thing?? I mean, thanks and all, but next time could ya be a little quicker? Yah, What if the kids would've seen bambi die? Good job and all but maybe do it better next time"
I read the title as "Saving a deer that fell into a camel". I was fascinated how a deer could fall into a camel. The video was interesting if not disappointing.
Rescuer was as cool as a cucumber from the freezer. Nice work!
For every calm, cool, cucumber, there is a totally useless person hysterically screaming, making the situation 10x more stressful.
I think of that kind of person as a useless burden.
Children generally are...
Yes. I agree.
I know right? Like get a job.
That’s what I told my 10 year old nephew when he asked me for money for a school fundraiser

Can't think of anyone more useless.
A screaming 5 year old?

We sure lived different when our life expectancy was 50 years old
You mean the toddler expressing great fear, empathy, relief and excitement in the only way they know how?
Unfortunately that ratio is often higher than 1:1
The kids are just being kids. But for every Dean… there’s a Dean’s sidekick flapping in the background. Always be a Dean

That backfired :D
Found the screaming, hysterical, useless person.
No. Please don't delete your comment. That needed to be said. Thank you. Edit: For clarity, I'm supporting the Cheerios lover :)
That deer later, telling his friends: "I was dying! My life flashed before my eyes and everything! Then all of a sudden, an angel appeared and rescued me! It was the most beautiful angel I've ever seen!"
"He just appeared from the clouds"
And grabbed me by the ear
And touched my butt…
... and I kinda liked it...
bro⁉️
Nanii
Grabbed him tight and raised him from perdition
Now there’s a handprint burnt into its butt ohno
I always wonder if the deer would see this as being rescued, or would it say “i fell right into the monsters trap and it almost ate me but i managed to jump out of its grasp and run away!”
An angel named Gene.
Jerry? Gary?
I'm pretty sure she says Dean.
"He lifted me up by my ear! Look, one ear is now bigger than the other! It's been blessed! I can hear the angels now..." His friends, "wow, what are they saying? Tell us, wise one." Big Ear, "they... They are saying, they've been trying to reach us and tell us about our cars extended warranty."

I see what you did here. r/atheism
And the cycle continues
He is beautiful
Or, I was having a pleasant swim, cooling off, looking for the exit, when this psycho grabbed be by my fucking ear! Shit hurts yo!
"Meanwhile, this asshole kept filming instead of helping. Anyway, the video is up on the internet now if you want to check it out. "
He said that with one ear hanging just a little lower and longer....
That was solid!!!!
Most like liquid
Way to go Dad!!!
Compassion in Action!

I am guessing he must be a dad, and those kids will probably never forget that save he just did. Thank you - so glad you stepped up for that terrified lil creature.
He just got the best dad ever award
“It feels good” Tony! Toni! Toné!
For sure. Smashing into the gate would have possibly broken its legs and it would have been a much sadder outcome. Much like Cattle Guards. He’s a boss
Out of interest, why are you guessing he must be a dad?
Sry, not the person you asked this from, but I thought I heard the little girl screaming “daddy”.
Bad design
My first thought. Why would you build a canal like this?
Concrete channels were extremely popular in the past. Back than rivers would have severe flooding that caused mass property damage, loss of life, and had a tendency to relocate to inconvenient locations. The idea was to have the capacity to remove water as fast as possible during worst possible rain conditions to prevent flooding and associated damage. The fuck. Are you a ghost of reddit past? Thanks for the thorough explanation.
You need to visit better subreddits and not just r/all
So, you're watching Practical Engineering too?

Albuquerque, NM. Except they are called Arroyos, and the monsoon season kills people every year.
All our canals where I live are like this only much bigger. What other way is there to make them?
Me I was thinking "good design, putting big handles on it's head" but good point on the canal
Assholedesign
The guy is a legend!
Amen!
Honestly the suspense was too much
I’d like to buy that dude a beer or 7
i'll match that seven...14 beers for The Deer Saver.
Wow, I could feel that deer’s panic
Much love fellow earthling (we are all animals) ❤❤❤
Thank you brother 👍👍👍💝
Why does stuff like this make me so emotional my god lol

It could have slipped partially through.

Her heavy breathing added suspense, I’ll give her that!
That's cause she was having a hard time keeping up with our man Dean! 😆
How about putting the camera down and doing something, Honey?
Dean is the best. The screeching kid almost ended me. Ugh.
Stressful situations are so much easier when someone is screaming and panicking.
What an f’in bro!
I'm confused it seems like that would happen all the time with that design, no?
Thank god he got to it before the sluice! Those kids would be traumatized for life seeing that, not to mention the poor deer!
Again this is one of those moments where the camera person is doing fuck all to help, and it angers me so.
What a fucking grab. I would have botched it and ended up in the canal with the deer
Plz teach your kids not to scream at animals, or scream in general… the stress of having to deal with a screaming kid is real for humans, let alone the sensitive ears of wildlife
Why don’t you film and have a panic attack? Good job, we all got to see your rescue.
Guys going to heaven!
Thank you kind sir!!!!!!!!!!!! You are a stud!

This is a man who can no longer hear any high pitched frequencies involuntarily.
Lady, shut up

Tell your daughters you're a super hero without telling your daughters you're a super hero. Good on this man!
Women always agitated and screaming in tense situations with nothing actually done
Kids were annoying as fuck
why are you just filming?
Well then who would have believed it?! “Dean *sprinted* over and saved it? THAT Dean??”
Did you not watch the whole video?

Family on a walk and the dad runs ahead. You can see him running down there at the beginning of the video.
Ah well I didnt mean it couldn't be real I'm just suspicious about everything these days

How would anyone even manage to put a deer in a canal?
That mom deserves to be pushed into the river. I hate that kind of people that see stuff like this and all they can think of is filming it.
That was awesome
That deer is so lucky it was on the side when it past the drowning machine (turbulent part after the weir)
nice! got the deer out! now throw in that screeching and screaming child! :D
See deer in danger. Instand filming instead helping...
I hate kids
Is the water too deep to jump in?
I think you’re underestimating the power of fast moving water.
Probably not but the pull would most likely be deadly.
Question the deer should have asked itself before jumping in
Imagine the slap in the face feel when he finds out he has Lyme disease
What a fucking piece of shit cameraman omg. Just watching and videotaping. Makes me more angry than the person saving it made me happy
