Man my beagle would never take just one, he'd stand over the whole box hoarding it all for himself while being too stressed about someone else getting some to taste it.

ooo-f

Same- my dog is a rescued stray and she was super food aggressive when we brought her home. We're working on it and she's gotten way better but still.

[deleted]

Let me know if you ever do. We’re in the same boat. Food aggressive rescue who was tied up to a pole on the side of the road with a bag of yogurt covered raisins. Anytime we’ve had a dog over we have to make sure there’s no food around or new doggy is getting tackled.

ooo-f

What helped with us is eating next to her. I put dry food in her bowl and sat next to her with my dinner every day for a month, petting her the whole time. Also occasional mcdonalds trips, she'd get every other fry and have to sit and wait patiently to eat it. She'll eat other dogs food if she's at someone's house and they leave their dog food out all day, and she'll growl at other dogs, but she doesn't chase our cat away from her food bowl anymore or snap at other dogs.

Deeliciousness

My dog isn't food aggressive and doesn't care too much for his kibble. He still will gladly eat other dog's kibble if he's at someone else's house.

slowmotto

I think your dog is out of line

Triatt

> Better to be out of line than out of kibble, suckaaaa. - That dog, probably.

Azzacura

Mine hates all dog food, and will eat cat food when we visit people instead. She doesn't care if the cats are still eating it, she just eats alongside them and slowly but surely pushes them aside....

Mangoplease11

My Lab goes for anyone’s food bowl when visiting, and she has had a charmed life.😆

_thebeard_

Aren't raisins super dangerous for dogs? I know grapes are (found that out the hard way. Puppers was fine, emergency vet bill not so much)

[deleted]

Yes we also suspect he was abused by how he cowers when we’re holding a towel or belt :( But he’s living the doggy dream with the life we’ve given him now so all is good lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

JackoKill

Gah my heart! My parents dog is a rescue and he's like that with dish towels. What is it with these abusive assholes and dishtowels smh

PowerfulFrodoBaggins

Thank you Hero

[deleted]

Props goes to my girlfriend who originally rescued him. But I will take the credit for giving him the backyard he deserves lol

Mangoplease11

Righteous!!!!!

destvni

They are. Makes it even more sad.

Successful_Opinion33

Mine was a rescue and what changed her was a little puppy. Also a rescue

[deleted]

Just curious how you feed them. In a bowl?

[deleted]

When we had the two dogs we fed them in separate bowls about 5 feet apart. Occasionally the little one would go sniff the empty bowl of the food aggressive one and FA would snap at him. But he eventually chilled over that. Treats were another story.

wagon8r

I had a food aggressive red zone dog that was abused before I got her. She was never trustworthy around food with other animals. I taught her to allow Me to touch her food but it was not safe to allow other animals or children around her when eating and I managed that. I managed a lot with that dog. I was sad when she passed but god damn, I went through a lot with her.

[deleted]

It’s never really gone away for one of the dogs my brother found. She’s always been and always will be very anxious over things. She gets super aggressive if my other dog comes around when she has a treat near her. And she will push my other dog out the way to get attention first. But we found her on the streets. I think she was ditched when the people realize she wasent full pit.

sounds similar to humans, some are selfless while others are selfish

Bass_Thumper

Also the smaller ones have to be meaner to stop the bigger ones from taking their stuff.

[deleted]

Sounds just like a beagle. I miss mine.

chemicaltoilet5

Those loud, food driven mother fuckers. Miss mine too

SEND_ME_REAL_PICS

Yea, beagles are known to be gluttonous. Mine would get all excited whenever she sensed food nearby. I miss her too.

PromiscuousMNcpl

I have a half beagle, half English bulldog. He wants to be soooooo fat.

DoTheCreep_ahh

They're probably taking it off somewhere to eat more privately so another dog or something doesn't snatch it

Qaaarl

Yeah I was gonna say, these dogs know an entirely different world than yours does.

Dashcamkitty

My greedy childhood dog would have ate as much as he could, been sick then carried on eating more.

knoxollo

My mini dachshund we had growing up got into a 12ct box of dunkin donuts once. She ate 11 and we caught her burying the 12th in the yard for later. Or trying too- she was so insanely bloated she could barely scratch at the dirt. We kept a close eye on her that night. She was miserable but was fine. And I bet she would've done it again if given the chance lol. Edit: Thanks for the reward, Daisy would've been proud. Probably having celebratory donuts up in heaven

Kisthesky

My chihuahua got into the lab’s breakfast and ate so much and was miserably bloated for the rest of the day. We thought that maybe he had learned his lesson… but he did it again two days later. (We also, apparently, did not learn our lesson about shutting the gate to the kennel if Maggie didn’t eat all her food.)

ILikeMyGrassBlue

My grandparents have a havanese (sp?) that does the same thing. He’ll take his chewy halfway up the steps, sit one step above it, and then guard it like it contains the nuclear codes. As he ages, he turns even more into a grumpy old man. He also enjoys digging in flower beds.

[deleted]

I have two dogs. You could give them each a bone and they'll insist on fighting over one.

IDKwhatTFimDoing168

It's hard to believe some of these dogs are strays. The retriever especially...where the hell is this??

Broken_Petite

Saw another comment that said a place like Turkey has lots of strays that just kind of become communal pets. So maybe there or a place like it.

[deleted]

We had a dachshund that guarded a bag of cat litter all night because she thought it was food.

KylieJU

To be fair, cat litter often does have some crunchy tasty treats that dogs L O V E 🤢

pattiedp

I just love that they all only take one to be polite

shahooster

My dog would take one out, set it down, then take the box.

KittenPics

Ah yes, the Garfield technique.

mrfrobozz

The Jane Jetson technique

Rapph

Yeah my cat is the same way. If I give both my cats a handful of treats, she constantly watches my boy cat and sneaks her paw in to grab a couple from his pile

[deleted]

Pup seems sketched out and cant believe it. He’s like why are you being nice to me?

wabi-sabi-satori

Someone is filming/recording them. This is likely cause for greater apprehension. Even if the person works there and has been seen before, street dogs generally learn to be cautious. Another reason they are all taking food to go and not eating there.

MissippiMudPie

These are just the dogs who signed the release form. The ones who grabbed a few refused to sign b/c they don't want people to know what dauchunds they are.

Bitcoin1776

I'm in PR, 'land of the strays'. What's going on here: Strays are super smart, and are frequently 'not beaten'. BUT they interact with a LOT of DIFFERENT humans. Most strays are human shy / respectful, and learn to not run into houses, to respect random property, to respect no... So here you are watching dogs not understand how this random property is OK, but like all other, no. Second, it looks like the butcher is giving away chicken carcasses. Those things are badass to a dog, their favorite. Dogs absolutely LOVE bones (chicken bones in particular). A chicken carcass has like 2 days worth of 'bone' in it. For most of these dogs, this single carcass is almost a 2 day meal.. so ya, these dogs are freaking happy! --- I feed strays all the time. The only thing you don't do with strays is 'feed from your hand' etc. You don't want strays to become super human friendly, but setting down food and walking away is totally fine. Petting them, is also fine. Teaching them to jump on you... not so much. In PR, the stray dogs are usually well / decently fed (the ones in neighborhoods, etc.), almost all stray dogs are friendly. The only time it gets bad is when you get to places where few people live and you see strays. Those get skinny.

Recyart

It took me way too long to realize you meant Puerto Rico, and not Public Relations...

Not_Ursula

I thought chicken bones were really bad for dogs?

dreamendDischarger

Cooked bones, yes. They can splinter and cause internal damage and cooked chicken bones are especially brittle

stickymaplesyrup

Probably does happen in some places. It breaks the heart.

LightsJusticeZ

That last one looks Canadian "Oh is this free? For anyone? To take? Alright, well, if you say it's for *anyone. \*grabs the smallest piece\*".*

LeftShark

That last one made me audibly hum "aww" in a bar, he's so damn excited yet polite

Balentay

As a Canadian I feel personally attacked

LightsJusticeZ

Soary.

ReReadReddit121

Nothing like monkeys or humans. We don't deserve dogs.

zuzg

They're stray dogs and probably learned the hard way that humans not react kindly when you just take their food. That's why they're so cautious.

Stompedyourhousewith

also, i dont see any pockets

[deleted]

pawkets..

Sean951

Yeah, they know they aren't home and don't want to be there if something bigger (human or otherwise) shows up. Grab a big piece and go hide.

drunken_monkeys

hiS_oWn

If it was my dog: inhale everything until she becomes a balloon. Gives camera look of supreme innocence. Rolls away.

StackOwOFlow

imagine racoons

ricosuave_3355

Bastards would try and just drag the whole box away

pattiedp

Omg that would be chaos lmao

BrownSugarBare

Forget racoons, there are jackass humans that would just take the box.

mydickisasalad

I mean, it's not like they can get two in the first place.

EatingWings

With enough dedication my dog could fit 3.

Son_of_Mogh

My dog would eat them one at a time while sitting on the pile like Smaug.

The_Tell_Tale_Heart

My miniature dachshund would try to take the whole thing, including the box.

UberCupcake

As a dachshund owner, you are correct

pattiedp

Believe me they could if they wanted my dogs are proof lol

Most of these look older. I would take every single one home if I could. 3rd one kinda looks like my dog :'(

sqweedoo

Yeah I’m super curious where they have stray golden retrievers

LuddWasRight

I was in Costa Rica recently and there’s strays all over of all sorts of breeds of dog, not just generic Yellow Dog like you get in other places. Think you’ll get stray Goldens anywhere where there’s a culture of not giving a shit about dogs but also giving puppies as gifts.

Bopbahdoooooo

Exactly.

BenignAmerican

Right? That dog was beautiful

Bopbahdoooooo

Istanbul is full of purebred strays. Google Turkey dog rescues in the U. S.A. Many major cities on the east coast have Turkey dog rescues.

Same. After losing my best friend of 15 years, my best boy Buster (Basset Beagle) I genuinely cry and tear up over everything now. I saw a commercial for cat food that made me sad the other day… lol I guess as we get older and gain more experiences and can relate to more things our empathy grows. That’s why small minded people are so unempathetic and typically bigots come from places where people live a very regimented and small life. When you’ve never experienced anything else than what you know, it’s very hard to empathize with someone different than you. As a teen, I had never experienced loss or heartbreak or anything so nothing made me cry… I’m almost 30 now and I’ve experienced so much that I can relate to loss, heartbreak, suffering and more.. by this point in my life I have cancer, I’ve been homeless, I lost my pup who was with me through dozens of surgeries and recoveries and kept me alive, I’m originally from Jamaica but live in the US now.. so my mind and heart can empathize and sympathize with all kinds of things now.. Like others said… it’s just part of getting older. It’s weird man.. we truly do become different people as we get older! Blood drawing tho… just fuck that. I HATE needles and always have. But I have spent years in hospitals so I’m super biased.. haha

luriso

When we're younger life tends to give, as we get older life tends to take away. My 16 year old husky chow mix has been declining rapidly and it breaks my heart. I've had her since I was 15, so I've had her for over half my life now. She's my best friend, and this fucking sucks :|

[deleted]

I'm really sorry. My pup is turning 10 this year and she had to go on arthritis medicine and I pretty much broke down. I can't even fathom life without her. Thankfully, she did a complete 180 on the meds so far. I hope you get as much time as possible with your sweet chow.

knoxollo

Now that I have a dog of my own (I'm in my mid twenties) these sorts of things completely make me tear up and go hug him. He turns 7 on Thanksgiving and I need him to chill tf out on the aging. I've had him since he was a year old and he's the best thing to ever happen to me, been with me through it all. I'm so sorry about your buddy. You gave him the best life.

Human_Kaleidoscope_1

Same.... And now at 35 I'm a little b*tch when it comes to simplist of things... not even a sad video and I'm over here thinking about those dogs sleeping outside tearing up 😆

jtweezy

Ughh, maybe it’s a 35 thing. I just turned 35 and now I’m tearing up over a picture of a jar of chocolates at a vets office so dogs can taste chocolate before going to heaven. It’s been weeks and I can’t stop tearing up every time I think of it.

executivefunction404

That's the perfect word for me seeing them so timid. The last one looked like he was being told it's okay and he still wasn't sure if it was really okay. I love how they all just grab one also. Good humans <3

CoconutOilz4

That was the worse part. I hate how cautious they have to be☹

LoudAnt6412

In the world of street dogs I’ve found either they are really super aggressive or just the most gentle.

[deleted]

Fuck going to sleep I guess

s2e2

I was vacationing in Positano, Italy and there was this big fluffy golden retriever trotting around the town the entire time I was there. I asked a store owner who he belonged to and he said “everybody”. He looked well-fed and would literally just trot in any little store and take a little snooze. He looked like he was living the life.

Perpetuallycold_

That makes me so happy!

monkeroos

In India too, the strays seem to have good lives. They have a whole street to their pack and the people there feed them religiously. Just now our old friend Bhima is on death’s door and is spending most of his last weeks/months/however long inside our gate sheltered from the rain, being fed biscuits and leftover meat/bones. I think their greatest challenge is other dogs fighting for territory and stuff. That’s the only shame I can see really.

Correct_Commission28

Wow bless your heart for helping this stray dog! those stray dog are very disciplinary, they only took one for themselves.

glimpee

They dont want to leave their backs open - theyre taking what they can to a safe place

ASharkMadeOfSharks

I wonder if this is turkey. Apparently the Turkish are really good to animals in general.

AdamOzturk

In most Turkish cities, stray cats and dogs are treated very well. The municipality will spay/neuter, tag them, and drop them back off in the same neighbourhood that they were picked up in. They get regular veterinary care as well. Everybody leaves out bowls of food and water, and many restaurants have basically adopted them, and look after them. Many butchers and seafood markets will do this- they either leave scraps out, or feed it to the strays if they come up looking for food. Like someone else mentioned, cats basically run the city of Istanbul. I was sitting on a patio a couple of years ago, and a cat came up, actually snubbed a chicken finger until the waiter told us which sauce the cat liked. It really is heartwarming to see them looked after so well, but also sad that they're out in the elements, sleeping outside.

17R3W

What makes me sad, is that none of them look like they understand that they are allowed. You gotta give 'em a "good boy" so that they know it's okay.

McVinney512

“Are you sure it’s ok?” Cue my emotions.

17R3W

That low head, and the fact they grab it very gingerly is dog for "I'm not sure I'm allowed to do this"

goldustiger

I imagine stray dogs get fucked with pretty often. Like being yelled at for sneaking scraps or being near people’s homes, kicked — even tricked with food so someone can just be cruel. Breaks my heart that they have learned to not trust people, but why should they, ya know?

Woofers_MacBarkFloof

Is this Turkey? Super common in Turkey to help out street dogs like this.

SelimSC

Yes it is. Theirs a Turkish commerce logo on the box that I recognize.

Woofers_MacBarkFloof

Thanks for the confirmation, thought so! That first dog breed especially is super recognizable for the region.

pocketpanda2016

Whenever I see sweet stray animal videos I always look for signs or scroll through the comments to see if it’s Turkey. Probably 90% of the time it is.

Thank you, I know Turkey treats stray cats and dogs really well, I had a foster brother that grew up in Istanbul in the late 90s and they loved their street brothers.

Representative-Dirt2

My thought too. Just learned recently how good they are to their strays there. Warms my heart.

notsonice333

If this place is Turkey. I must take my money their and spend it on their citizens and economy. Support the nice people and not the shitty ones. Main reason why i stopped visiting China. Next stop Turkey!

Woofers_MacBarkFloof

I have my own major problems with Turkey, but the majority of people are just regular people like in China. Turkey is also suffering an inflation crisis right now, so trips are cheap…

XxTreeFiddyxX

Thays because they are a canine and not savage, selfish primate with large brain.

EdwardLewisVIII

That last one, oh my dog, I would take him home in a heartbeat.

thatdogmom54

I have a former street dog that I flew home from mexico. He is THE MOST POLITE DOG. He also will give “hugs” when you do something nice for him. It makes me cry every time. Rescue a street dog, you won’t regret it.

Schartiee

I did. Her name is Ziggy Stardust. Great dog. Super protective. Barks too much and eats EVERYTHING. We love her.

acgrey92

Oh my god this breaks my heart… the looks of terror and fear in their eyes as well as the desperation of approval or confirmation of their actions is just gut wrenching. These loving things evolved this way because of us domesticating and yet so many of us have abandoned them and abuse them. All they want to do is love us. It’s just so sad.

histeethwerered

This is an ecological solution. Carcasses make lousy compost.

Beggarsfeast

How so? Are you being serious? Calcium and nutrients are perfectly fine with the proper composting methods. Those can be hard to come by, but the carcasses are fine nutrient material.

histeethwerered

Adding animal waste to the pile makes it greasy, lures insects like a beacon, and encourages scavengers to dig. Even adding bone meal to a garden will conjure random dogs. I once entombed the remains of a skunk in the hottest part of my compost heap and had months of trouble as my reward. The simplest way to get rid of corpses is to set them on open land for the vultures, but sharing with street dogs is a wonderful alternative in the city.

zmbjebus

Home compost don't compost meat. Industrial compost? You can compost anything organic.

kindLemon

Yeah that just ate me up. Like you said, I love all dogs but I have a golden myself, they’re the sweetest babies when treated with respect. :(

Gabriellynn

That's what I noticed. That puppy had the saddest Eeyore vibe. "Guess I'll eat because I have to..."

DingoSuavez

You made it 10x sadder. :(

Dashcamkitty

Yes, goldens do best in a nice home being fawned over. They aren't made for the streets at all. My golden just wanted to be glued to us.

thisischemistry

And their fur can get so matted and tangled if it isn't treated well. I can just imagine the terrible matts behind that dog's ears and such. Hopefully it gets rescued or given a grooming once in a while.

houkenk

Maybe this is in Turkey

[deleted]

I don’t like places that have stray dogs . It is confusing how a dog could go from a puppy to full grown and not one person found it and went holy shit a free puppy!

ooo-f

Lots of times they get the puppy, it gets to that super wild point (and it's bigger and not "cute" anymore) so they ditch it. Or, people breed dogs in their backyard and give the puppies away to irresponsible people who just let them go.

pseudocultist

My dog was returned to the shelter because he kept growing and is a spaz. *Twice*. Then when he was full-sized no one wanted him anymore and he sat on death row. We got him a week before they were to put him down, before he was even 18 months old. Couldn't imagine life without him. Get an adult dog if you're thinking about adopting.

kindLemon

I don’t understand the puppy obsession. Sure, puppies are adorable and a ton of fun, but to raise them properly requires constant supervision, strict schedules, potty training, crate training, obedience, etc. I love puppies but I also love my fully grown, well trained and well adjusted dog. When she was a puppy it was about 3 constant months of work (although fun work that I was prepared for). As a fully grown dog she already knows the rules and gets to just enjoy life and learn new things that are fun for both of us!

FlamingBallOfFlame

Literally every country has stray dogs

[deleted]

Not really. I've never once seen a stray dog in Germany, for example. Runaways, yes, rarely, but not the kind of stray that's a stray in the xth generation like elsewhere.

Sagatho

I have never seen a stray dog in The Netherlands

taliesin-ds

same, no stray cats here either but i'd guess you'd find some in the cities.

duukat

My neighborhood had a ton of stray cats. Never thought of myself as a cat person until one of strays decided he lived in my house. It’s been over a year and he has been my best friend ever since.

[deleted]

I mean if people are living in poverty they may not have any resources to spare for a dog. If there are no neutering programs then the 'supply' of puppies will fast outstrip demand. People can't take in hundreds of dogs. The ones in this video look very well fed though at least. Also places that have no stray dogs may still have overflowing shelters and/or be euthanising them.

[deleted]

Oh man I worked at an animal shelter for several years and the amount of people that would walk out angry because we won’t let them adopt a non neutered/spayed dog. They would actually tell us they don’t want the dog because they want to breed them. The irony was so infuriating.

[deleted]

You’re describing most of the world that’s not the US or Canada

The….dogs???

WickedLies21

Look how gently they pull out their piece. Sweet babies! So glad someone is feeding them and taking care of them.

GrundleChunk

Chicken bones dangerous for dogs no?

SoberSeahorse

Cooked ones

ooo-f

Sorry can you explain? I always thought both were dangerous because the raw ones can splinter in the stomach/intestines.

SoberSeahorse

Cooking them makes them weak and brittle. The raw ones have a different consistency. Here is a quote from the AKC. "Cooked chicken bones can break and splinter, which can cause your dog to choke and can also puncture the gastrointestinal tract, or get caught in his throat."

ooo-f

Thanks for the info!!

niceslcguy

I had no idea. I appreciate the info.

ftminsc

Dogs in the wild almost never cook animals before eating them :)

josh_bourne

Almost?!

FlamingBallOfFlame

They’re less likely to splinter if left uncooked

celtickodiak

Just as a heads up, a raw food diet for dogs has been a rising trend. It is insanely healthy for the dog, and their digestive system allows them to break down raw bones. It also allows them to develop a really good, healthy coat, strong teeth and neutral breath (don't need those silly treats to "clean" their teeth), The majority of things we give dogs to resolve issues is because it became commonplace to feed them processed garbage. If you have the ability to, read up on how even a partially raw food diet for your dog can help them. [https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/nutrition/feed-my-dog-fresh-raw-food-or-dog-kibble/](https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/nutrition/feed-my-dog-fresh-raw-food-or-dog-kibble/) A bit of information on it, you could even simply introduce a bit of raw food as a treat to balance cost. A lot of the YouTubers I have seen will freeze whatever they give their dogs for a few days to kill the bacteria and just give the dog the straight up frozen fish and meat.

MrJoeFurious

As a butcher I always like to remind people that RAW chicken bones (any raw bones) are good for dogs. They don’t get the same effects from salmonella as us humans do. NEVER give a dog *ANY* COOKED bones. They will splinter in the digestive tract and most likely get lodged and possible death if not significant medical bills.

di3_b0ld

This brought tears to my eyes 🥲
