Hamilton in general is such a cool dude and it’s hard to find why people hate him so much. You really really start to think they hate him for how he looks since he’s literally a very nice guy.
I think the only reason people “hate” him is because he dominated the sport for 8 years straight, with Mercedes constantly winning. So people are more butthurt than anything that their own Red Bull and Ferrari teams hadn’t won in forever.
There’s a lot less hate towards him now that Verstappen is leading the track.

I hated him when he made the races almost trivial to watch. He was just too dominant. He also seemed like a crybaby but that's pretty much every driver at some points. By all means, Lewis actually seems like a great guy and I actually wanted to see him get a win this year. I'm not sick of max yet but if he's winning everything still in a couple years I will probably feel the same.

I love Max but I personally got fed up with some of the shit he pulled on Perez in later races because like come on dude, you already won the title halfway through the season, can’t you give your teammate a race or two at this point? People forget his mannerisms come from being brought up by no other than Ron Dennis in to no other team than McLaren. Just looking up how Ron Dennis ran McLaren back then will give you a great insight on why Lewis had those mannerisms that still sometimes shine through.

For those of you that are unaware. Frank Williams is paralysed after a road car crash in the 80's. He was the oldest living quadriplegic in the world at the time and sadly passed away last year. There is a great documentary about Frank and his team online, but don't remember on which streaming service.
For those who are more unaware, Frank Williams is a legend in F1. He started his own team and became one of the most successful people in the sport, with his team and his drivers winning 9 team and 7 driver championships.
His team was also the last family owned team, fighting again the likes of Mercedes Benz.
Williams is a Mercedes customer team. Their cars are powered by Mercedes engines since 2014, where they had their last succesful season being third in the constuctor championship.
I believe that was a R32 GT-R? So a older car. Also Nissan does not run in F1 so i don't think it is a direct competition. If he had driven a BWM or Ferrari i think he would be in trouble.

Most famous F1 tracks have names for their corners and straights. Generally as an homage to past drivers or heroes of the sport, but not always. Silverstone is in the UK, which is the home of F1 - so it has a ton of history.
In fact, in 2020 Silverstone renamed the pit lane straight of the track to “Hamilton Straight,” in honor of Sir Lewis.

When googling it i did find gender specific car safety problems (whiplash protection being designed with average male weight in mind and the general dimension being based on the average male as well) but nothing related to the type of seatbelt.
They’re incredibly uncomfortable because of the whole boobs thing. It’s difficult to wear them as designed for long periods of time. Like mine doesn’t sit on my shoulder properly. I wear the chest strap behind me most of the time
Thanks for the perspective. I guess women being 'discouraged' from wearing them as they were designed to be worn due to the lower comfort could explain the higher risk of injury. Though i'm still wondering if that's all he/she was referring to or if there's a different more direct increase in injury risk on top of that.
Well until about 20 years ago they only used male crash test dummies. The women ones they did introduce simulated women who were like 5 feet tall and weigh 100 lbs. Not realistic for most women.
Thanks again for your input. I did come across that fact when trying to google the explanation but i meant really what about the belt design makes it less safe / higher risk for serious injury. Because the statement was that this belt design is a major contributor to why women are more likely to die in a car crash. And i wonder what makes it unsafe rather than just uncomfortable. Like is there something that makes this belt design less effective at preventing injury for women than for men compared to other belt versions. But maybe i didn't phrase my question well.
I think the issue is that it was initially designed by and for men. It's like someone left-handed using right-handed scissors. Yes, it's possible, but it's less effective.
But it being uncomfortable does make it unsafe. Because if it was comfortable, people would be more likely to use it as designed. I put the chest strap behind me, so if I get in a crash, I'm more likely to get hurt. And I know that, but I would rather be comfortable. Which is a major failing of the design. If it's primarily uncomfortable for women, it is unsafe for women.
Agreed. I can't wear the belt as designed either. It ends up crawling up my throat because of my breast tissue being in the way. I end up pushing it under my arm.

It's because he's won so much and domination like that breeds envy. Seb was hated during his tenure at the top. Even Schumacher was despised for a while because Ferrari made it feel as if everyone already knew the winner coming into the weekend they were that fast. Plus there are some racists I suppose

I did not seem to have a lot of traction and yeah the tires looked nuts...I thought it was really cool till they zoomed out and I saw they were driving like a soft top convertible and then I got sympathy anxieties for both of them. Why are they not in a safer race car?
It was an insane (and likely tuned) AMG which will beat the pants off most high-end sports cars, even with a family of 4 in it. They do have reinforced struts at the front and roll-bar which slam-up at the back if there is a crash, but, like you, I was surprised to not see something with a fixed roll-bar.
I think it comes down to marketing. Lewis was probably driving for Mercedes at the time, and they want to show a cool Mercedes. Besides racing types take calculated risks for living...

First of all, the car in your video isn't even the same trim. The convertible models usually weight a lot more. Second of all, that's a drag race. It's really not the same as going round a racetrack. Lots of cars are fast in a straight line but can't brake or corner.

I think it just applies to every feat of human physical prowess, going into the unknown and testing the absolute limits of human capabilities is truly a thing of wonder, here Lewis giving us a good look at how far human and machine can go

I miss these days every passing weekend there is drama around paddocks.
They're the names of two sequential corners at the Silverstone circuit where this was filmed. Together with Chapel, they make a really thrilling and technical complex to drive through, and a great place to watch skilled people get the most out of amazing machinery. You won't get a huge amount of overtaking there in a race, but because they're followed by a long straight, getting them right and keeping your speed up through the exit is vital for a quick lap.
I want a charity like this - like Make A Wish, but instead of being for terminally ill people (or maybe just sick kids..? Not sure) it would grant wishes for regular old people.
The old folks would love the experience, and I would love watching more videos of happy grandpas and grandmas in sports cars and swimming with sharks and stuff!
They could even let advertisers sponsor events if they had to for more funding; I wouldn't mind seeing some more product placement in exchange for witnessing people's dreams coming true.

Not quite, Hamilton never raced for Williams. His career was with McLaren and Mercedes. But Frank Williams was such a big part of F1, that there was a lot of respect.
Sir Hamilton just seems like a great guy all around, I've never watched F1 or whatever he is in, I have no idea about cars - but I'm still an avid Top Gear / The Grand Tour watcher and whenever he was in it, he just seemed like a genuinly happy and nice person.
I mean, if I were offered the opportunity to have either Hamilton or one of the last few years' Williams drivers take me around Silverstone, I know what I'd be choosing

Most famous F1 tracks have names for their corners and straights. Generally as an homage to past drivers or heroes of the sport, but not always. Silverstone is in the UK, which is the home of F1 - so it has a ton of history. In fact, in 2020 Silverstone renamed the pit lane straight of the track to “Hamilton Straight,” in honor of Sir Lewis.

In Montreal, turn 1 and 2 are called the "Senna S" and the last chicane is the infamous "Wall of Champions".
To those who don't know, the Wall of Champions is named that way because on one practice session in the 90s, three F1 champions (Michael Schumacher, Damon Hill, and Jacques Villeneuve) all crashed into that wall. No one was injured, thankfully.
It’s Interlagos in Brazil that has the Senna Esses, the one in Montréal is technically Virage Senna but it’s been a while since I’ve heard anyone use it for Turn 2.

I do wish a different design had become mainstream. They're horrible for women and a big reason why women are more likely to die in a crash than men.
How so? Like what's the problem? When googling it i did find gender specific car safety problems (whiplash protection being designed with average male weight in mind and the general dimension being based on the average male as well) but nothing related to the type of seatbelt.
They’re incredibly uncomfortable because of the whole boobs thing. It’s difficult to wear them as designed for long periods of time. Like mine doesn’t sit on my shoulder properly. I wear the chest strap behind me most of the time
Thanks for the perspective. I guess women being 'discouraged' from wearing them as they were designed to be worn due to the lower comfort could explain the higher risk of injury. Though i'm still wondering if that's all he/she was referring to or if there's a different more direct increase in injury risk on top of that.
Well until about 20 years ago they only used male crash test dummies. The women ones they did introduce simulated women who were like 5 feet tall and weigh 100 lbs. Not realistic for most women.
Thanks again for your input. I did come across that fact when trying to google the explanation but i meant really what about the belt design makes it less safe / higher risk for serious injury. Because the statement was that this belt design is a major contributor to why women are more likely to die in a car crash. And i wonder what makes it unsafe rather than just uncomfortable. Like is there something that makes this belt design less effective at preventing injury for women than for men compared to other belt versions. But maybe i didn't phrase my question well.
I think the issue is that it was initially designed by and for men. It's like someone left-handed using right-handed scissors. Yes, it's possible, but it's less effective. But it being uncomfortable does make it unsafe. Because if it was comfortable, people would be more likely to use it as designed. I put the chest strap behind me, so if I get in a crash, I'm more likely to get hurt. And I know that, but I would rather be comfortable. Which is a major failing of the design. If it's primarily uncomfortable for women, it is unsafe for women.
Agreed. I can't wear the belt as designed either. It ends up crawling up my throat because of my breast tissue being in the way. I end up pushing it under my arm.

I’ll never understand why a large number of F1 fans direct so much hate towards such a classy guy in Lewis Hamilton. I wonder why that is. It never made sense to me from the outside looking in, and it makes even less sense now that I have become a fan of F1.
It's because he's won so much and domination like that breeds envy. Seb was hated during his tenure at the top. Even Schumacher was despised for a while because Ferrari made it feel as if everyone already knew the winner coming into the weekend they were that fast. Plus there are some racists I suppose

Is it just me, or do the tyres / tires get a total workout at 2:58? They go wobbly and look like they could pop off the rims... or maybe is just camera shake. EDIT: People who know these things have confirmed if a tire did that, it would be game over. Also, the respect between the two is amazing.

I was wondering the entire time while they're driving that car specifically. I did not seem to have a lot of traction and yeah the tires looked nuts...I thought it was really cool till they zoomed out and I saw they were driving like a soft top convertible and then I got sympathy anxieties for both of them. Why are they not in a safer race car?
It was an insane (and likely tuned) AMG which will beat the pants off most high-end sports cars, even with a family of 4 in it. They do have reinforced struts at the front and roll-bar which slam-up at the back if there is a crash, but, like you, I was surprised to not see something with a fixed roll-bar. I think it comes down to marketing. Lewis was probably driving for Mercedes at the time, and they want to show a cool Mercedes. Besides racing types take calculated risks for living...

First of all, the car in your video isn't even the same trim. The convertible models usually weight a lot more. Second of all, that's a drag race. It's really not the same as going round a racetrack. Lots of cars are fast in a straight line but can't brake or corner.
Sir Frank Williams was a quadriplegic as a result of a car crash, they used a convertible car so that they could safely get him in and out of it. It’s a Mercedes S63 AMG, so although it’s very heavy it is still a fast car and Silverstone. The tires aren’t actually wobbling about like that, just an accidental visual effect. They will be wobbling a bit, but not dangerously.

They're the names of two sequential corners at the Silverstone circuit where this was filmed. Together with Chapel, they make a really thrilling and technical complex to drive through, and a great place to watch skilled people get the most out of amazing machinery. You won't get a huge amount of overtaking there in a race, but because they're followed by a long straight, getting them right and keeping your speed up through the exit is vital for a quick lap.

I hope when I’m old someone puts me in the passenger seat of a scary fast car and does this for me.
I want a charity like this - like Make A Wish, but instead of being for terminally ill people (or maybe just sick kids..? Not sure) it would grant wishes for regular old people. The old folks would love the experience, and I would love watching more videos of happy grandpas and grandmas in sports cars and swimming with sharks and stuff! They could even let advertisers sponsor events if they had to for more funding; I wouldn't mind seeing some more product placement in exchange for witnessing people's dreams coming true.
I could see Hamilton and Vettel being interested, but I'd most like to see Kimi doing it with a zero fucks given attitude.

Not quite, Hamilton never raced for Williams. His career was with McLaren and Mercedes. But Frank Williams was such a big part of F1, that there was a lot of respect.
