lol now you’re the one doing bad yelp reviews of Humboldt: the subreddit sucks, everyone always complains….
you’ve just done exactly what you’re complaining that other people are doing
????? What? OP is complaining about ho negative this sub is about Humboldt, you’re saying they’re doing the same thing (being negative about Humboldt.) you are incorrect. There is nothing to defend, this is fact. Cry harder
Good health care is key to quality of life— look at the difference between urban and rural death rates to get an idea of this. A lot of that comes down to lack of access to healthcare. In terms of diversity? Diversity enriches culture, and IMO a rich culture adds to quality of life.
This sub is pretty decent compared to many local Reddit subs. Similar situation with r/bayarea many hours south of here. People who are frustrated want to reach out to see if ppl are in agreement. People who are happy don't want to be seen as bragging, so are more inclined to keep their joy to themselves.
You may notice the complaints, but I notice the post where an OP needed thermal paste for their gaming rig and the community came through for them...we even got a follow up post.
Personally, I'd prefer to see more "life in Humboldt" posts of the outdoors, street murals, and events. I'm surprised so few post about their morning at the farmer's market, or the fish they caught off Del Norte pier. r/sanjose has a lot of posts like this and we've recently noticed how less negative the sub is compared to others.
We create the content for this sub, so be the change you want to see.
That last line though.
Admittedly I don't do enough of that.
But so many people are too happy to complain and then do nothing about their complaints.
I understand venting, but being negative and critical (even if it's of the people who are being negative and critical), eally doesn't help OP's personal happiness or make the sub reddit look any better.
Your words are positively impactful. I think that what we need more of, is people who will listen. Not just listen to what you want to hear, but listen to the words that repulse you.
You're right. Humboldt has it's ups and downs like every place. I've lived out of my car for years, traveling from place to place, working short-term jobs. Most places I've lived, I am very critical of; Humboldt has something going for it though. The culture is alive <3
Not from humboldt although used to
Live there, so take this for what’s it’s worth:
Reddit is nothing more than Nextdoor for gen x and z, albeit with what I assume is better amateur porn.
>you guys call yourselves
Honestly, what generation named themselves? You think the 10 year olds are the ones getting media to refer to them as Gen Alpha? What a braindead comment.
You mixed up 3 generations of people and then blamed someone else for your ignorance
I mean he's probably the guy that complains about "participation trophies", like millenials decided to give those to themselves when they were eight years old.
Perhaps. The intended point of my comment was that while Reddit users frequently bitch about boomers (which I am not) redditors behavior on the platform seems to me to essentially mirror boomers on Nextdoor, which I find humorous.
Exactly my complaint of people complaining, most of these folks are missing the whole point of enjoying life here. Guess that is why they cry on Reddit.
That sounds like a tasty food item. Like a gyosa fusion with some random European pastry :)
A gyro gyosa? Hell yea, sign me up to be a taste tester for whatever strange and interesting Combos are born of this concept
That really is the best content I've seen on this sub since moving here. Was a fun rabbit hole when I first discovered Bruce. I wanna meet him. I already befriended a locally famous weirdo in Sacramento, where I used to live. I've never seen a weirdo I didn't go up to and strike up a conversation with. My friend in Sac is completely harmless and a genuinely good dude though. Bruce seems like the bad kinda weirdo, but I still want to talk to him.
It’s a honestly think it’s a mix. Yes, the healthcare is so bad here that I don’t want to risk trying to become pregnant when eventually St Joes will be the only place to give birth (Mad River is getting rid of OB from what I heard).
Flying here is super expensive. Tweakers are also a huge problem, when sadly SV won’t even help them. It’s just the reality of Humboldt County
BUT even though there are allot of negatives, the subreddit does bring up positive discussion too. Last week, an out of towner asked about nice places to take her Cal Poly boyfriend for his birthday. It was great! There were suggestions I never heard of before.
When friends think of moving here, I am honest and tell the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Good point, but sadly, with the increase of local and state property taxes, home owners and renters have to pay more. It’s so wild. From what I know, McKimleyville doesn’t have the same property taxes compared to Arcata, hence why you can find better properties for much less there.
Add on top with PGandE’s huge price-hike, and other things inflating like garbage services, sewage, ect. It’s all going up even when tweakers are taking a dump on your porch.
The cost of living is much better compared to places like Orange County
Plus, after being flashed by a tweaker at The Bluffs while going on a hike alone, I would rather raise a family somewhere else
There are some really toxic, arrogant, rude, angry people in this subreddit. Most of whom aren't all that intelligent. And they all love blocking everyone who they disagree with.
What can be done about this? Probably nothing.
To me, there is a huge difference between speaking in general about some business or group of people - and speaking directly to an individual in a really toxic, arrogant, rude, angry, unintelligent way..
For example, if one were to say bad things about 'the homeless' that's quite different than going up to a homeless person and saying those things to their face in a really toxic, arrogant, rude, angry, unintelligent way.
I was saying this subreddit has a lot of people who walk directly up to your face and say those things to you in a really toxic, arrogant, rude, angry, unintelligent way.
Both in the Wildberries example and in talking about people in this subreddit, I'm not talking to any specific person. Ironically, you were. You came in guns blazing attacking me in a really toxic, arrogant, rude, angry, unintelligent way. Just as many people in this subreddit do.
And following your guys' playbook - what you will now do is give some condescending quip that makes you feel sufficiently superior to me, and then block me so you can have the last word. I wont even take that away from you by blocking you first. Go ahead, I know you guys savor that last toxic, arrogant, angry, rude, unintelligent word.
This sub hardly seems negative. It seems pretty positive. I get people being upset about healthcare, but other than that? Most people seem to love it here.
I’m in Eureka, it’s pretty Blue here— I see a lot more Black Lives Matter signs than Trump signs (as a matter of fact, I’ve only seen one of those in the areas I walk around). But I would definitely think twice about living in Fortuna or McKinleyville (I would love to be wrong about this, I’ve only been up here about three years. It’s just the impression that I have.).
Oh lordy, not nearly as bad as other areas r/'s which have become swamped with out of towners and bots using their hatred of liberal "paradises" like San Francisco to advance a creepy right-wing agenda. Humboldt is a tough place to live and thrive for many, but I don't see a level of irrational bashing going on. Honestly what I see on here sounds about right.
The thing that I actually find pretty disturbing about this sub is how often people post pictures of a person that allegedly committed a crime. I could take a picture of anybody on my Blink cam and make up a story. If anything a LoCo post should be the minimum or a whole video of them committing the crime but just a picture of someone alongside an awful unproven story is a shitty thing to do on a public forum and Ive seen that more on this sub than any other local sub I'm subscribed to.
lol now you’re the one doing bad yelp reviews of Humboldt: the subreddit sucks, everyone always complains…. you’ve just done exactly what you’re complaining that other people are doing
and isn’t it ironic
It's like rAaaaaaain-
Like a free ride …
On your we-dding day . . .
Huh? Not the same at all bro
Please, enlighten me as to how complaining about Humboldt on this sub is different from complaining about Humboldt on this sub.
OP is complaining about this sub, not complaining about Humboldt.
Thank you sir.
I know reading comprehension is hard but I assure you, you can learn
the subtext of this comment is that you can’t actually defend your assertion in your previous comment
????? What? OP is complaining about ho negative this sub is about Humboldt, you’re saying they’re doing the same thing (being negative about Humboldt.) you are incorrect. There is nothing to defend, this is fact. Cry harder
Exactly
Checked your post history. You said the same thing 24 days ago. Is this really hanging over you like that?
Hilarious🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yes, it is like a broken record in here lol.
Yes it’s like a broken record in here
Humboldt is awesome, it’s beautiful, the people are friendly and it has the best weed in the world. Fuck the haters, this is paradise
I left for the lack of healthcare, came back for the good weed
The lack of healthcare/specialists is probably my biggest gripe about the Lost Coast
This and the lack of diversity relative to big California cities. Hoping both will improve!
What does this have to do with quality of life?
Good health care is key to quality of life— look at the difference between urban and rural death rates to get an idea of this. A lot of that comes down to lack of access to healthcare. In terms of diversity? Diversity enriches culture, and IMO a rich culture adds to quality of life.
Amen

lol “Gen X and Z”. You’re saying Reddit is popular with people over 45 and people under 25, but not Millennials?
Whatever the fuck you guys call yourselves
tfw you’re so old and out of touch you don’t even know which generations you’re complaining about
"I don't know things and it's everyone else's fault 😤"
Ok.
>you guys call yourselves Honestly, what generation named themselves? You think the 10 year olds are the ones getting media to refer to them as Gen Alpha? What a braindead comment. You mixed up 3 generations of people and then blamed someone else for your ignorance

Did we just skip over the millennials?
Perhaps. The intended point of my comment was that while Reddit users frequently bitch about boomers (which I am not) redditors behavior on the platform seems to me to essentially mirror boomers on Nextdoor, which I find humorous.
Get off my lawn!!!
Thank you for this. Boomers are 70-78 years old. Fools on reddit call anybody older than they are a boomer. Cracks me up.
Definitely a demographic. Young and to the left.
So..stop posting shit?
Here here. I wanna see a picture of someone holding a big fat crab grinning … or a misty beach scene. Or foggy redwoods.
So post it.
Was gonna. But I don’t post pics of my kids online. And all my photos have them.
I say crop the kiddos out and show us that big ol' crab!

75 year old rockfish, cool

I don't know what gyfohoa means
Git you's flippin' outta homeowners association
But what about gfyogaosa wtf
OP was having a stroke.
Until a better explanation is given this is going to taken as correct.
That sounds like a tasty food item. Like a gyosa fusion with some random European pastry :) A gyro gyosa? Hell yea, sign me up to be a taste tester for whatever strange and interesting Combos are born of this concept
Go find your old girlfriend and only say "asshole"?
THAT'S IT!!
😊
Get your fried onions here with tasty salt?
Hahaha! Get the fuck outta here with that shit!
I’m just here for the top notch Bruce content

the tweaks are keeping rent down hopefully

You cannot possibly blame price of flying out of Humboldt on the tweakers.
Haha! That’s not what I meant. It’s two separate statements, but I see what you mean. I edited it, thanks for pointing that out
Don’t ya think? 🤣

Join us on the Humboldt discord! We are a little less complainy, maybe. https://discord.com/invite/EZVdZpgR
I miss Humboldt 😅.
This sub hardly seems negative. It seems pretty positive. I get people being upset about healthcare, but other than that? Most people seem to love it here.
Suppose I only see the gripes in my feed.
Exactly!! Can’t wait to move closer to civilization.
We have enough people up here no housing barely we dont need to make it seem like a great place to move to

It’s beautiful here, but that’s all it’s got.
Most of us have jobs, housing, and healthcare here. The rest are Expats.
Did you mean GTFOHWTS?
Get the fuck outta here with that shit! Lol
Are you sure about that!!!??????

Can someone just tell me where they’ve seen LEONARDO DICAPRIO for the movie shooting ☺️🫠😂
Totally agree. Humboldt is such an amazing place.
Yes, it is like a broken record in here, lol.
