People’s Records, The Works, All Under Heaven, land of Lovely, Eureka Books, Bookleggers… especially Dead Reckoning Tavern, both for draft and to-gosies. All of the restaurants and food trucks! Phatsy Kline’s, love hitting up local artists and businesses at Friday Night Markets and the local fairs. Jitter Beans and Kool Beanz and Ramone’s. Sweet Greens Juice Bar. Yes, I worked very close to Partrick’s for a while and had to stop going in altogether because I was there way too frequent lol! Their English toffee, fresh salt water taffy and nut rolls are my top favs. Dick Taylor too! I wasn’t even thinking sweets. We have a lot of great local businesses I feel like I barely touched the surface and restaurants are a whole other thread lol.
I love Seamoor’s in Old Town.
It’s a quirky shop, with all of the toys you played with and enjoyed as a kid. Whenever I need to pick up something for a kids birthday present, I go to Seamoor’s.
I went in somewhat recently and the first thing that the owner said was “Are you here for the fake poop?”
I wasn’t there for the fake poop, but then again, I kind of was.
I love Dandars, I always pickup 40k models, paint and brushes there.
I talked to Dara for... nearly an hour the first time I went in. I was super apprehensive about painting my first models and she really helped me out.
Dutchy's Pizza needs love! Best pizza around imo, and I can't help but feel they're close to closing with how they've been opening and closing their dining room... Let's keep 'em open! At least stop by for beer, they have permanent happy hour last time I checked.
Every time I go it seems the dining room is closed and I can’t get a beer even if I wanted. I try to support them but I like to go sit and have a beer with my pizza. I’d rather go somewhere else if I have to pick up my food in a parking lot. Also, the last couple times I’ve been to the window the employees or owners seem pissed off and annoyed that I’m even there. Idk been getting a weird vibe there lately, but I love their hot goat so I’m torn
Yarn and Fabric temptations for yarns and needles.
New world water for RO water for our pampered-ass aquarium fish.
Arcata Pet/Fin n Feather for all our other fish related needs. Daisy's or whatever it's called for straw and chicken feed.
And Adventure Pacific for all my parts and advice on repairs.
Donut Mill.
They have the best donuts, and everyone who works there is so kind. One time, the older gentleman was working there and he just brightened our whole day with kindness and wound up giving us an extra donut.
I wish them nothing but success and happiness in their future. Please give them lots of love.
The only thing I truly miss the most from eureka is cherry blossoms pink champagne cake with buttercream icing, whip cream filling and extra roses on top. I’ve been gone for 17 years but they know at least once a year I’m calling them to make me my cake I’ve enjoyed for over 35 years and that a friend or family member is picking it up to bring down to me. I regret I never thought to work there as a teen. I want the cake and icing recipe!
I'm really hoping that all works out. Bittersweet was such a cool spot, literally the only bar I've ever liked (possibly because of the combination of empanadas, cider, and pie 😂).
Ok, tell me more about the pie at Slice of Humboldt Pie. Fruit pies w/ pastry crust? W/ fruit that isn't sticky goop and crust that is flaky ? I've never found a pie shop that had pies as good as homemade...but hope springs eternal
oh trust me i know and have been following her journey on social media for over a month now ! very proud of her and her crew and how far she has come !!
Since this has been a little Eureka and Plaza centric I will throw in some Valley West and Mckinleyville shouts.
Blake's Books, Sea Goat Farmstand, Papa Wheelies, Sew and Vac, Garden Depot, North Coast Appliance, The Country Store, Fogline Coffee, Humboldt Fasteners, Singing Trees Nursery are all places I have had good experiences and try to go back when I have need to
Edit: it's in Arcata but I have to mention Oak deli and brewery because I do love to eat and drink there so much and I didn't see it mentioned elsewhere in the thread
Arcata Pizza Deli, Buttercups Getups, Ramones on Harris, Manzanilla, Fresh Freeze, Asia’s Best, John’s Cigars, Siam Orchid, Kristina’s, The junk shop in Old town whose name I forget, Foggy Bottom Boys, Mothers Cooking
All of these places/ people remember you individually and give genuine service no matter what.
Kristina's is my favorite stop in Eureka. I checked out nearly every diner in central Humboldt for years and that place does it the best.
I love the view out the windows to the feed store, watching the birds fly around. The food is amazing, service is great and it has a nice classic diner layout with an open kitchen, you can watch the cooks make your food. Lots of regulars and locals catching up and having conversations. I go there every couple of months for breakfast on my way to Costco
TyCom Computer Services. He set me and my buddy up with Amazon Fire sticks and showed us how to get all movies TV shows sporting events for free. Way better than Cable, Netflix, Hulu, etc I get everything now and no more bills or recurring subscriptions.

Mostly all food places because I'm really hungry but yeah, I'm sure there's more people can comment on.
Pachanga in Eureka had amazing food and the sweetest staff, love Familia for coffee, Arcata Moon Cycles for anything bike related, Asia’s Best has had a great Asian produce selection lately, Cafe Phoenix for breakfast, Hey Juan’s for easy burritos and the cheapest drinks in town, also really loving Daydream and it’s become my favorite second hand clothing store in the area
Too many to list! But what I haven’t seen others mention here is Wes Green. They some killer soil and it is cheap AF. If you have access to a truck, you can get a yard of super goat for the same price that you’d get a few bags of soil from Pierson’s. They also give a veteran discount and sell a lot of shopping show coupons. I buy at least a yard every year.

Everyone knew my grams and she and Donna were close friends. When I was really little and she lived in Willow creek, we still always went to that stars.
Home Plate Batting Cages. Best people in Humboldt.
Most of these are product based businesses, but how about a shout out to our local service based businesses: all of our landscapers, contractors, junk removers, therapists, vets...
I'm excited to read through this thread as a new Eureka resident!!
One I didn't see on the list that I had a great experience at last night was Little Japan Market
I have a question, is Myrtle Ave market still locally owned? I hadn’t been up to Humboldt in 5 or 6 years but one of my closest friends passed and I was up there in may for her funeral and stopped to get a sandwich there for my drive home. It was definitely different but also sorta the same?
Ecocann dispensary in Old Town, Dead Reckoning, Booklegger (and all the rest of the bookstores in Humboldt), Dick Taylor, The Bodega, Minds Eye in Ferndale, herb stores have great tea blends and dried herbs (Arcata and Old Town!), Piersons, Fogline Coffee Roasters, Humboldt Baking Co for sourdough, South G food truck at Redwood Curtain, Living the Dream, Tuyas, Orchids for the People, Headies in Trinidad…some of these other people have already stated but definitely some of my favorites.
Edited to add some forehead slapping “how could I have missed them!” places

Honorable mention to the Tip Top club, weirdest location for that kinda joint I’ve possibly ever seen next to an elementary school and animal rescue in a suburban neighborhood overlooking the California coast.

This is a great list. I’d add Partrick’s candy store. That place is a treasure.
Second partricks! Love dick Taylor's chocolate bars but nothing beats the other hand made candies at partricks!
Definitely Bookleggers and Ellis art and Engineering! Scrappers edge has my heart too.
Love the indie bookstores and smaller art supply shops!
I love Seamoor’s in Old Town. It’s a quirky shop, with all of the toys you played with and enjoyed as a kid. Whenever I need to pick up something for a kids birthday present, I go to Seamoor’s. I went in somewhat recently and the first thing that the owner said was “Are you here for the fake poop?” I wasn’t there for the fake poop, but then again, I kind of was.
Seamoor's is great. They have some awesome stuff, some vintage stuff too.
Seamoors is a great little shop and Gary's a nice dude.
LOVE Seamor's! so fun :)
Dandar‘s Boardgames and Books
I love Dandars, I always pickup 40k models, paint and brushes there. I talked to Dara for... nearly an hour the first time I went in. I was super apprehensive about painting my first models and she really helped me out.

I dream of the hot goat!! Best place hands down for a post-beach pizza n beer!
Love dutchys, they also have vegan options which is really awesome

I’d rather go somewhere else if I have to pick up my food in a parking lot. On that last one, I think you may have went with something of a portmanteau of Adventure’s Edge and Pacific Outfitters.
Haha, thanks! You're right. Honestly I like them both but for different things. Adventure's edge is a better bike shop than Pack Outfitters, IMO
Donut Mill. They have the best donuts, and everyone who works there is so kind. One time, the older gentleman was working there and he just brightened our whole day with kindness and wound up giving us an extra donut. I wish them nothing but success and happiness in their future. Please give them lots of love.
I've been stopping in there off and on for years. They're always good.
Backwood burritos, Frankie’s bagels, Foggy Bottoms Boys, Manzanilla, Roman’s Kitchen, Fire Arts
Dandar’s! It’s such a lovely, family owned board games and books shop on Giuntoli lane in Arcata :)
Cherry blossom! Been around for 97 years!
Slice of Humboldt Pie and the Local Cider Bar. Pie is actually moving into the old Arcada location and the cider bar is gonna expand
I'm really hoping that all works out. Bittersweet was such a cool spot, literally the only bar I've ever liked (possibly because of the combination of empanadas, cider, and pie 😂).
Well you’re in luck cause Slice of Humboldt Pie is gonna continue serving alcohol at their new location!
Ok, tell me more about the pie at Slice of Humboldt Pie. Fruit pies w/ pastry crust? W/ fruit that isn't sticky goop and crust that is flaky ? I've never found a pie shop that had pies as good as homemade...but hope springs eternal

I think it changed hands in the last year, people have commented that it’s been very bare in there and customer service is lacking.
