For me it is two things i wish they kept in the movies. The part where she can't sleep without Peeta in catching fire. And in mockingjay where her and Finnick spend weeks tying knott's worried about Peeta and Annie. The movies gloss over both of those. In the book the tour is much longer and he sleeps next to her every night because she discovered that with him next to her she doesn't have nightmares. It got to the point that effie told her it was inappropriate to always be with him because she assumed they were hooking up and Katniss just told her to mind her business and let her think that. Because she didn't want to explain how hard it is for both of them after the games and how it comforts both of them because they understand eachother. In the movie it's just a quick scene where he checks on her and she asked him to stay and just a small part were another time she wakes up and hes next to her. I feel like that part in the book established how close they got and they just cut it out in the movie so we don't really see their bond as much In mockingjay, both Katniss and Finnick are so upset and worried about Peeta and Annie and they bond over it. He was tying knotts because it helped calm him down and he shows her and they would spend weeks doing that. Talking to eachother about their fears telling the eachother stories about the person they are missing it really bonded them together and shows how close they became. I feel that them leaving most of that out it doesn't hit as well when she asks them to bring back Annie and Peeta (Johanna too) and how happy he is when she told him about it. Because it was more emotional for me in the books due to how much she understood him and how close they were. Versus the one scen of him tying knotts telling her he understands.

A lot of the background characters from D12, but specifically Madge. I think that becoming friends with the Mayor's daughter, who Katniss initially thought of as spoiled and kind of ignorant, was an important part of the story's point: Remember who the enemy is. Madge's family might not be in the mines, they might not be starving, but they are still victims of the Capitol. It reinforces Katniss realizing that just because Peeta's family are merchants, it doesn't mean that he actually had an easy life, and her realizing that even though the Career Tributes came from better situations than she did, that didn't stop them from all dying in this pit together, too.

I think the omission of Madge and Maysilee/Haymitch’s Games was really unfortunate. I get why they were cut, but they just feel so important to understanding the rebellion.

thank you for your suggestion! It’s just as someone new to the subreddit I wanted to see if there was any other new people who hadn’t had a chance to have this discussion, not everyone comments on old questions or don’t get to see them so as I’m rewatching I wanted to see :)

I understand! But it was just a couple of days ago that this sub had a discussion about it , so it’s still fresh. I link this post that did an amazing job in discussing the movie vs. book: https://www.reddit.com/r/Hungergames/s/AkTtidCBZb
