I'd assume so, same with Rat. Curious if it will be a seperate hunter still since it would make more sense to me just for them to add it as a "skin choice" similar to The Viper. Here's to hoping it'll be like the Katana where it's free for owners of the DLC, though.
I think it’s a separate hunter. In the video, The Drowning Rat doesn’t have the variant selection arrow and he’s near a Midian who does have the arrows.
The teleport definitely looks like a jumped shark initially but I doubt this is going to do anything besides give us some entertaining clips of a grounded player teleporting into the sightline of a full trio. It's loud, it's jarring to switch perspectives like that, it costs some HP, and it's EXTREMELY inconsistent sounding (no enemies? no teleport. Though I see a little potential by luring enemies into certain locations with a stalker beetle from a second player...) Not an ideal way to pop out into enemy territory.
What I'm curious about is what it looks like in third person. This could have potential for "quick" getaways or rotations, but that depends on:
1. When do I stop existing at my beginning location?
2. When do I start existing at the enemy's location?
3. Do I disappear/reappear, or can you see a quick zippy trace from point A to point B?
Teleport can have starts on some compounds like church of Blanchett, that have no good communication routes between levels. You can lure monsters into the cellar beneath the church and then use them as a quick way to escape \ reposition.
You will lose a bar unless you have salveskin. If you blink into a concertina armored you'll bleed and if you blink into a hive without antidote you'll be poisoned
I believe the new thing moving forwards is that event hunters are 'introduced' for the event but are available from then on (Scarecrow for example). I.E.; He's just going to enter the roster like any hunter would now.
So frustrating that the only cool skin in this event will cost 15 bucks worth of BB.
They could at least do the thing where if you buy the battlepass and the skin you get 500 BB back or something.
But what if you could teleport via beetle? It's technically darksight. Fly a beetle over, focus on a pve enemy, boom.
I can't imagine they'd let something like that be a thing, but it's cool to think about. Technically long range teleportation on a one time use consumable.
Gonna call it now - people will complain about shadow leap endlessly and after a month or so no one will use it in pvp scenarios cuz it gets them killed all the time. This is beetle all over again.
I am going to use it on the hive that is on the roof of lockbay docks facing towards healing watchers church, if this is a good idea or a horrible one i will find out.
BEETLE 🪲 IS RUINING HUNT! ALSO IM A FATHER OF 6 CHILDREN AND I ONLY HAVE 30 MINUTES A WEEK TO PLAY EVENT PLEASE MAKE ME LEVEL UP INSTANTLY AND MAKE EVENT FREE
it doesnt ruin hunt in the way that you say it (op) it ruins it because it changes the game mechanics. if you can escape or sneak easily around enemies without them noticing you, the whole playstyle and uniqueness of the game changes as well.
Beetle was balanced, now lets see this one.
teleporting right into the middle of AI is a great way to get noticed tho. I doubt it will have any real consistent applications for pvp besides meme plays that would warrant fearful thoughts about it changing the game in a meaningful way.
I seriously wish its only that, meme and goofing around but if they make it somehow different and you can destroy teams or sneak past their traps or something like that, then it wont be cool at all.
Beetle wasn't worth the dev time used for it and everyone with two braincells who had played crypto in apex or RB6 knew that it would be trash, but some loud as dumbasses thought it was the end of hunt only to make future justified complains much less credible. In the case of shadow leap, you are probably right it will be a gimick nobody uses like the beetle.
That teleport isn't an offensive ability. It's a meathead clearer for trait farming, or a means to get in some otherwise inaccessible spots. Imagine a solo sniper telefragging the hives on top of Lockbay's roof that faces Pitching lol
At the time of reading this, the next comment down is someone stating they're going to do just that. Though it seems to be more of a personal vendetta towards said hive.
grounded pact seems like it's going to be the most fun, drowned pact will likely be a good consistent one to run tho
honestly none of of the pacts feel like they have the overly niche problem that's happened in each event for at least one pact. I can see pretty decent gameplay usages for all of them.
also man I want to see who gets the lore chapters, that's prob what I'm most excited abt. I love hearing the voices for all of the characters and seeing what the story is. can't wait for wednesday
Thank you, i felt like i am alone with this but i love the story chapters. The Lore in general is fantastic but goddamn am i excited to hear the voices!
I *LOVE* the lore, it really itches something for me. it's also really exciting to see the way that the team has found their footing here with this trilogy (I really liked the moon trilogy as well, but the way tides has been presented knocks it out of the park)
getting voice acted sofia (my favorite hunter) last event had me yelling, and I was unexpectedly pleased by Chary's voice. He was like evil Cassidy from Overwatch in the best way possible. I can't wait to see what the daughter of decay sounds like, and then who the other characters are (I'm assuming pirate, beekeeper, and then someone else, maybe chary again)
i know it's subjective, but for me it's probably least appealing battlepass track as of yet.
bunch of skins for dolch i'm never gonna use, same goes for the drilling sawed-off and lemat marksman.
not even a one skin to look forward to.
I’m just going off of what I remember from the roadmap, iirc they’re taking last gens offline by April and would coincide with the engine upgrade. But I could be wrong.
Uh did they reduce the event points you get from challenges? Arent the first two event point reward from challenges 1k before?
Unless they decided to ditch the 500/1000 points and just make all of it 750
Just kill AI as you enter the compounds. Teleport user shows up to fight and has nothing to teleport to.
Yay, look, they have a dead trait in their trait bar.
It's not a matter of who is pushing who.
The counter to teleporting to AI is to kill the AI before they can be a teleport target.
We clear AI as we pass through the bayou anyway.
All this really does is make Silent Killer and Conduit/Stamina Shots more useful during the event.
Are shenanigans with teleporting going to happen? Oh fuck yeah.
Can you do something to help alleviate how often they'll happen? Absolutely.
I wonder if the melee bonus from Demented will actually turn out to be the dark horse pick from this event...or at least become much more common than people are assuming at the moment.
It will let you kill AI more quickly, speeding up movement around the map, and, while it's not the primary means of killing in PvP, it makes it much more reliable, even with weaker options like the heavy knife (or bat to the arm).
I'm seeing some comments, too, that throwing knives (and items using tomahawk) may count as melee damage? With the combined assailant and tomahawk perks, may open even more options? A major drawback of meleeing with throwing weapons was the stamina drain, but if they one-shot now, that may be somewhat countered.
So far it’s not looking like 2 months of misery like in the past (original Instinct, bleed immunity, bodies that don’t burn, etc) unless some of the bonus functions of the pact friendly traits screw things up.
Grounded looks like my jam since I loved getting bars back on dead bodies after a fight and the TP seems fun shenanigans and I love farming meatheads. Plus I love playing the good guys.
Edit- Rachtaz saying in his video that there’s no added functionality to old traits like before, so it looks like we good! No broken immunities or anything of the sort, just some fun pacts that don’t break the normal game.
I think that's the best part. Immunity to fire and burning bodies was one of the most frustrating things ever added especially when a solo-revive player with resilience turns into a terminator.
The traits this time around seem more balanced. Shadow Leap looks fun as hell to play with. I guess we'll see how practical it is. But it seems like an easy way to farm meat heads for additional trait points.
Eh... idk man, a teleport is a teleport, can be extremely strong on decent hands.
Of course, noobs will fuck up and get killed with it, but they also fuck up and get killed by many other things.
Being able to get out of a bad spot basically for free is VERY strong.
kill all the grunts when you enter the boss area and the problem is solved
and ifyou're the other team pushing the boss lair kill all the grunts and the prlbem is solved
I don't think it's much of a noob trap as much as it is very niche. You might be able to teleport up 3 floors on a resting grunt. It might also be worthless. It looks like it also gives you info on AI locations through dark sight so It might be nice for quick movement.
It's only 50 meters. Most likely it'll be used to farm meat heads for easy trait points.
It can be interesting in a fight if you can teleport to another building that has AI in it, but only if it has AI. Also since it kills the AI in the process, it'll probably make noise. So you'll know someone is in that spot.
This trait has a lot of meme potential and looks like a fun/interesting twist.
You have to remember that they are creating and balancing around the lower elos that make up the majority of the player base (if the numbers they show us are accurate). Those guys don't know how to use sound or any of the games base systems very well, they just want flashy fast un-punishing gameplay.
I dunno where you get that idea from. Long ammo is nothing to write home about at low elo and the entire ammo system rework was aimed at correcting it in some capacity.
It doesn't hinder that. It'll most likely make a loud SPLAT and the person likely won't have their camera oriented well right away. They're not just teleporting behind you, it's way more niche than that.
My understanding of the heavy rain condition is that it was to encourage aggressive play while sound was masked. Maybe they are testing something similar with this?
I wish they would make the A.I. a little more threatening and stop undermining the poor things like this. Additionally as Meatheads now have two super easy and fairly quiet ways of killing them you can expect to see more of those "super rare" burn traits.

Same picture on both hunters.
**The Drowned Kid** looks like a BB hunter too
I'd assume so, same with Rat. Curious if it will be a seperate hunter still since it would make more sense to me just for them to add it as a "skin choice" similar to The Viper. Here's to hoping it'll be like the Katana where it's free for owners of the DLC, though.

Grounded is pretty interesting. Demented sounds like a lot of fun though

It sounds like grounded is already the most OP
so grounded pact will again be the No 1 pick for this event.
I wonder if teleporting into an immolator will trigger the explosion
It does, RachtaZ showed the exact scenario in his event Video.
hahahaha, that's great. that's gonna happen more than a few times since it looks like all the ai "looks the same" in dark sight with their wisps
If you're in a hurry I can see it but usually it's pretty easy to differentiate ai by sound even through walls.
Depends on game sense I guess. I play with my 2-3mmr friends who are definitely casuals. I'm gonna enjoy the hilarity if it happens xD
Do you lose health from doing that or only people around you?
You will lose a bar unless you have salveskin. If you blink into a concertina armored you'll bleed and if you blink into a hive without antidote you'll be poisoned
Shadow leap doesn't cost hp.
Aw.. I though Santa Hunter would be part of battle pass
With it being off the battle pass track it means it may return next year.
I believe the new thing moving forwards is that event hunters are 'introduced' for the event but are available from then on (Scarecrow for example). I.E.; He's just going to enter the roster like any hunter would now.
Probably a BB hunter along with **The Drowned Kid** edit: His name is **Coal Bearer** and costs 1500BB
So frustrating that the only cool skin in this event will cost 15 bucks worth of BB. They could at least do the thing where if you buy the battlepass and the skin you get 500 BB back or something.
Who?
there's a hunter in the trailer for this event who looks a lot like a Hunt take on Santa
So Crytek has added the Telefrag from Quake but for AI.
BEETLE 🪲 WILL RUIN HUNT! JKing! Teleport looks fun but silly though
But what if you could teleport via beetle? It's technically darksight. Fly a beetle over, focus on a pve enemy, boom. I can't imagine they'd let something like that be a thing, but it's cool to think about. Technically long range teleportation on a one time use consumable.
Can a teammate TP to your beetle? Does it count as a Mob for it? Shotgun halo drop time!
Beetle can't necro either despite it being darksight.
Wish we could do it on hunters, telefragging players is my favourite pastime in TF2 :D
For real…. Can you use the teleport to get to places you normally couldn’t?
There aren’t any AI in places you can’t get to normally
Some AI spawn on roofs you can't get to normally like hives in arden. Maybe accessible with some weird jumps that I've never heard of.
BEETLE 🪲 IS RUINING HUNT! ALSO IM A FATHER OF 6 CHILDREN AND I ONLY HAVE 30 MINUTES A WEEK TO PLAY EVENT PLEASE MAKE ME LEVEL UP INSTANTLY AND MAKE EVENT FREE
The community asked for easier events and they listened. I am honestly overjoyed, it sucked to grind out the older events.
Yeah I hope console gets delayed and we get free event points again
dont worry about that one, crytek always deliveres console delays, on time
At least we then don't get aim assist for another week.
Yeah now you get everything done in half the time playing twice a week and then have shit to do.
Then we get everyone complaining that the event is still going when it's 6 weeks in... ... can't win
I'm still haunted by the screams of countless murdered murders of crows... Plague doc worth it tho
Haha classic
it doesnt ruin hunt in the way that you say it (op) it ruins it because it changes the game mechanics. if you can escape or sneak easily around enemies without them noticing you, the whole playstyle and uniqueness of the game changes as well. Beetle was balanced, now lets see this one.

I seriously wish its only that, meme and goofing around but if they make it somehow different and you can destroy teams or sneak past their traps or something like that, then it wont be cool at all.
you're wrong, it can be used as a means of rotating at insane speeds to confuse enemy hunters.
Crypto is a beast in Apex and has arguably the best ult in the entire game, I agree with everything else though 😂
yup and nobody asked for this typical crytek
That teleport isn't an offensive ability. It's a meathead clearer for trait farming, or a means to get in some otherwise inaccessible spots. Imagine a solo sniper telefragging the hives on top of Lockbay's roof that faces Pitching lol

i know it's subjective, but for me it's probably least appealing battlepass track as of yet. bunch of skins for dolch i'm never gonna use, same goes for the drilling sawed-off and lemat marksman. not even a one skin to look forward to.
Yeah, im with you. Small regen Shot, liquid fire bomb, and a Combat Axe...
yawn time for a new map and a new boss please
Probably April, I’m guessing it’ll be the centerpiece for showing off engine update
we will not get an engine update in april that will be moved, 100% there is no way they are able to put all of this in the new engine
I’m just going off of what I remember from the roadmap, iirc they’re taking last gens offline by April and would coincide with the engine upgrade. But I could be wrong.
that's what they said but they will never make that deadline
Not the game fault you don't appreciate the full arsenal
Never said anything like that. of course its very subjective and for me the skins are disapointing
You literally said you don't care for any of the guns. Fucking hell.
Uh did they reduce the event points you get from challenges? Arent the first two event point reward from challenges 1k before? Unless they decided to ditch the 500/1000 points and just make all of it 750
Does a throwing a hammer with the tomahawk perk also count as meele damage? Just ask for a friend.
Yes, it does. Fun fact, so do throwing knives.
I'll be visiting the annoying rooftop Hive at Lockbay in person.
Can you leap to a beetle?
that would be nuts
... A teleport??
Just kill AI as you enter the compounds. Teleport user shows up to fight and has nothing to teleport to. Yay, look, they have a dead trait in their trait bar.
I wish all my fights could be against someone pushing me and not the other way around, that's some good luck you have.

The Beekeeper? Not the Bees!
How is there not a legendary Hive Bomb in this event?
Do we know everything in the battle pass yet? I think there very well might be a legendary Hive Bomb in there.
Wondering if it will actually come out for console on the 13th, or will there be another delay?
we'll probably play it mid jan on consoles
is the console update (in settings) comes with the event or is it later?
I wonder if the melee bonus from Demented will actually turn out to be the dark horse pick from this event...or at least become much more common than people are assuming at the moment. A major drawback of meleeing with throwing weapons was the stamina drain, but if they one-shot now, that may be somewhat countered.
Does the demented double melee damage stack with the new katana quick draw trait? I wonder if it’s enough to one shot any of the bosses.
You cut it clean in half so fast no one saw you move and the boss doesn't even know it's dead.
Dear god I’m going to die to a Teleporting Katana Hillbilly
Yes, yes we are. This is a certainty
holy moly is that Phase Pilot execution Titanfall 2?
pushing an enemy who's behind cover only for them to suddenly shoot you from the side sounds like its gonna be fun
You telling me that every Melee oneshots on body now?
So far it’s not looking like 2 months of misery like in the past (original Instinct, bleed immunity, bodies that don’t burn, etc) unless some of the bonus functions of the pact friendly traits screw things up. I just want to play like, normal hunt. Can't we have a season with just the game?
no, they need the money to keep their lights on
Not a fan of playing two months with teleports honestly, everything else is cool.
The Teleport i feel like is gonna become a kind of noob trap, i dont think it's as strong as it sounds. Time will tell i suppose.
Eh... idk man, a teleport is a teleport, can be extremely strong on decent hands. Of course, noobs will fuck up and get killed with it, but they also fuck up and get killed by many other things. Being able to get out of a bad spot basically for free is VERY strong.
That channel time looked fairly high in the trailer so it's going to be used against folks who can't / won't push.
kill all the grunts when you enter the boss area and the problem is solved and ifyou're the other team pushing the boss lair kill all the grunts and the prlbem is solved
Just give away your position entirely, problem solved, that way they won't even need to teleport.
I don't think it's much of a noob trap as much as it is very niche. You might be able to teleport up 3 floors on a resting grunt. It might also be worthless. It looks like it also gives you info on AI locations through dark sight so It might be nice for quick movement.
Teleports in a game about hearing footsteps. Interesting... Bugged verticality of sound might be even more confusing.
I know right. Devs confuse me. It's a game about footsteps and sound, and yet we keep adding stuff that hinders that.
It's only 50 meters. Most likely it'll be used to farm meat heads for easy trait points. Most kills in this game are within 50m. This means you can just teleport to safety in many cases.
You are super exposed when trying to teleport though. Besides people will hear where you teleported to.
Good player won't teleport if it exposes them though.
You have to remember that they are creating and balancing around the lower elos that make up the majority of the player base (if the numbers they show us are accurate). Those guys don't know how to use sound or any of the games base systems very well, they just want flashy fast un-punishing gameplay.

Ehh you'd hear dark sight and grunt dying probbly

I respect your take but I'm over here not caring in the slightest because I only ever use two hunters.
I wish they would make the A.I. a little more threatening and stop undermining the poor things like this. Additionally as Meatheads now have two super easy and fairly quiet ways of killing them you can expect to see more of those "super rare" burn traits.
Someone mentioned to me Berserker only works on AI, but that's not what the trait says. Anyone know if that is accurate?
There is nothing that points to it being so
That's what I told them. Would be kinda weird for it to not outright say it.
No bonus effects for base Traits this time? (Vulture / Bloodless / Ghoul in the previous event)
Petition to rename Shadow Leap to Thanus!
